Log Horizon – 06

LOG Horizon (1)

Party time with Serara and friends.

spring13-jrowHello all, it looks like after this episode, we have a clear goal from Shiroe and his guild. That’s right, a guild! It’s launch week, and admittedly I’m getting a bit antsy for the PS4 to ship. On with the talk, Fosh!

 —————————————

spring13-foshWelcome back to another fun episode of Log Horizon!! This was more of a talkative episode, but still lots of great development for Shiroe’s character and his plans for the future.

    “Nyanpasu!” says Nyanta, “Nya”

Dangit, now I’ve got that dumb song in my head. The music’s fine, but omg the lyrics are so, so horrible.

      • BlackBriar says:

Drown it out with another kind of music. That’s the best solution I can give. 🙂

        • skylion says:

          Like this lovely piece….

…and I love listening to the full version…

          • skylion says:

            Or, you could pick Apples.

Actually this is one of my favorite OP. The full version is insane at the beginning and develops into a beautiful piano and orchestra piece by the end.

            • Highway says:

I actually drowned it out with the OP and ED from Coppelion. Best thing about that show are those two pieces of music. Interesting and challenging.

        • d-LaN says:

Or just get the instrumental ver tht usually comes with the song ^_^

On an unrelated note, claris “colorful” just shot up my “Best OP of the season” list quickly after I listened to it.

A good episode. We finally see Shiroe decide to get involved and do something about the things he sees wrong in their world. And of course that means he finally has to start his own Guild. But Debauchery Tea Party is a much better name for a Guild than Log Horizon. Oh, well.

This episode also addressed my pet peeve about there not seeming to be any mid-level characters around when we learned that most members of the Crescent Moon Alliance are around Level 50. Yes, I know most long term players will be at the level cap. But not everyone’s going to be a long term player or a newbie. There has to be some between the two in any game that’s been around a while.

And the preview hinted at how Shiroe plans to raise some of the 5 million gold he needs to put his plan into effect. Which also explains why they would want to keep Nyanta’s cooking skills secret. I’ll bet they can raise a ton of money by offering other players food that has actual, yummy taste.

My problem with the level thing is that it’s not realistic in the guise of an MMO if people are all spread out in levels. It’s not that everyone is a super long term player, it’s that the amount of time to level needs to be relatively short, because 1) people want to play with others that are the same level and 2) people want to play powerful characters.

So while the idea of a level drop for helping out new people is a good idea (and one that has been asked for in WoW), players don’t want to always have to drop down to the level of the lowest player to participate. I think the show’s making too big of a deal of player levels.

Yeah, there was a lot of talking but the important thing about it all is that there’s a solid, worthwhile subject. One that talks about the increasing issues in Akihabara, like using fronts to trap unwilling players into guilds and monopolizing hunting grounds. The title “Resolve” for the episode is well deserved and it’s good to see Shiroe develop some of his own to make a stand. He’s aiming pretty high asking to accumulate over five million gold. The biggest sources of income in the town should definitely be the armories, restaurants (Nyanta would be ideally placed) and inns. So he says it’s just part of it, so I want to see the rest of his plan as soon as possible.

The EXP pots sound just like the Rare Candies you’d find in a Pokémon game to lazily level your group up instead of actually training. What bugs me is that such a thing should be a rare item. The insane benefits are why it should be so and therefore be unable to be marketed so easily. Each player should be able to find a total of at least four and be the end of that which is why it’s bothersome Hamelin could be stockpiling even if they’re using lower class players.

The boundary on the level cap brings interest. As in what happens when you finally reach level 100 because it’s basically the end of the line though growing just one level past 90 would be long and hard. In Accel World, the strongest players are all at level 9 because once level 10 is reached, you’re finished and would have to start everything back from scratch and no one wants that as they’d lose all they worked so hard to gain and the feeling of being powerful is too addictive to let go.

If some girls are great and attractive as tomboys, then leave them alone!! Don’t fix what isn’t broken. Love Lab’s Riko comes to mind. At this point, I just can’t see Akatsuki wearing a dress.

      …overalls and a lot 🙂

    • anaaga says:

I agree about the EXP pots. It’s kind of unfair how these people get their pots early in the game just to raise their levels when I work so hard just to get that kind of potion in real life gaming. Sometimes the price would be expensive also.

I’m also excited by the direction the plot seems to be moving. I think the idea of cleaning up Akiba is a good one, and can’t wait to see what happens next.

  5. anaaga says:

I don’t get why Serara is stuck at level 15 for such a long time. Does the whole level system does not work anymore when the players are in the game? Though she only does cleaning most of the time, she had plenty of battles, and I’m sure that big battle with Shiroe etc. would have raised her level. At least, in real life. Shiroe and the other’s levels are not raised either even though the limit is level 100. Why? Whyyy????

And the guild’s name is Log Horizon. Of course.

    • Highway says:

From what I can tell and infer, leveling requires fighting mobs that are near your level, and noone’s really gone to find areas where there are those monsters. Levels do seem more difficult to achieve in this game (WoW is too easy, when the first person to hit level cap after expansion is in 2 days). Serara isn’t really the type to go fight a lot of monsters… 🙂
