Toaru Majutsu no Index: Endymion no Kiseki

index movie (6)

Touma is stunned that JC Staff made a movie for him!

Before the thrilling end of Railgun S I recently got my hands on the Index movie and decided to do a quick review with Jrow! So how was this movie? It was decent, but it was your basic Index plot filled with action, drama and Touma punching things with his magical arm!

Oh man, I haven’t seen this yet. Can anyone recommend a good torrent site that has the movie along with the subs?

I’ve been gorging myself on the Index LN’s and Railgun Manga for the past few months. Now….I’m a huge fan of 1930-50’s American Pulp magazines; Sax Rohemer’s Fu Manchu, Lovecraft, Doc Savage, Robert E. Howard’s Conan and Solomon Kane etc. Kamichi-sempai is very much in that mode. Just write, make it exciting, don’t sweat the details.
International politics, bureaucracy, science…none of that matters (but his Idol Theory of magic is pretty darn awesome). Just keep writing, no matter how ham-fisted it gets.

And thus we have the Academy City universe. And I couldn’t be happier.

Endymion is a great big paint by numbers, let’s introduce a wider movie going audience to the AWESOME that is Raildex. And it bloody well succeeds on all fronts. While I poke fun at this, I was on the edge of my seat cheering like a happy fool every twenty seconds.

The LN’s got a huge bump in sales when the first Index series premiered. And it just kept growing. The Railgun manga, pretty much the same. If the film can get more growth, more power to them.

JC Staff should treat this franchise just like other studios treat The Big Three. It’s all there.

Thanks for the cast guys. I’ll listen to it tomorrow. My buds at my watering hole are wondering why this Metanorn thing is keeping me from shots.

Agreed. Raildex is definitely one of the best if not the best anime/manga/LN franchise in existence.

      • Hiss13 says:

Although, Kamachi does tend to be highly calculating when it comes to his writing. He makes things absurd and awesome while at the same time calculating all of the events he writes.

        • skylion says:

Well, that’s a good point. But still, there are times when I go. NO NO NO. That is not how things work in the real world. But, he’s building a skeleton for action/adventure and character development. That is the priority, the visceral moments. Nothing else really matter. Just like the pulps I mentioned cared little for real world concerns and concentrated on moral and ethical fights…and then american comic books followed suit.

          • Foshizzel says:

Hahahah yeah I feel that way too with some of the stuff in the movie/series but I have to always keep in mind this is anime science which is rarely “realistic” I mean take the final episode of Railgun into account? Misaka and Kuroko’s final attack was crazy!

I was a bit disappointed with the movie as it ended up just being alright rather than good or great, having the same flaws from the previous index seasons that i thought wouldnt happen anymore since Railgun S was good. Ah well, still an enjoyable movie; seeing all these characters in the movie reminded me off how desperately Kamachi needs to start developing his characters both main and supporting; that’s one element in his writing which he lacks refinement. All of kamachi’s characters are one-dimensional and if they arent then they are 2 dimensional at best.

I’ve been cheating a bit. I’ve been reading the WW III arc and the New Testament stories at the same time. Kamichi does slow it down and get to the nitty gritty of characters by NT. This is why I’ve been wanting JC to push the anime. I cannot wait to see Lessar and the Birdway twins. They are just sooooo freekin’ awesome…

      • sonicsenryaku says:

Ive been reading NT as well and while i do admit that he tries to slow it down for some character background, that’s all it is; background on the characters. He never makes them feel fleshed out or humanized, or characters you truly want to care about in my opinion. There is one character that i thought he did a nice job with though i wont mention that person to avoid spoilers. I gotta say though, Kamachi is doing a terrific job continuing to build up the universe of raildex and making the plot more prominent than its ever been. I cant wait for NT vol 9

      • Foshizzel says:

I really wonder how many seasons JC plans on making? I mean Shana and Zero no Tsukaima ran for roughly four seasons before wrapping up which has me worried I have rarely seen a series push for at least three to four seasons, but with the LN to fall back on I can see it going for a long time! I wish it would be a long running series like Bleach, One Piece and Naruto…

        • skylion says:

Yeah, that was the push I was talking bout. Saten is worth any of the Big Three character casts combined….

        • BlackBriar says:

I have rarely seen a series push for at least three to four seasons

It’s a rare thing but it does occur. Like Minami-ke getting its fourth season early this year and Phi Brain starting its third one this season. Other than material, it’s mostly due to popularity or an acceptable budget.

          • Foshizzel says:

Well with Minami-ke it always gets thrown around from studio to studio at least the latest season was and Phi Brain has a huge fan following so I suppose if Index has fans it will continue to be made along with Railgun.

            • BlackBriar says:

Two seasons of Index and Railgun plus a movie. It’s already a safe bet there’s a huge fanbase behind them so it’s only a matter of time.

            • sonicsenryaku says:

the raildex is a series that im pretty sure will get multiple seasons to cover the LN’s. Technically we are four seasons into the raildex series and i expect a 5th and 6th and any other they may need to cover the LN’s. I predict T some point, JC staff is gonna start using OVA’s to tell pieces of the important parts of story that will not fit a season.

  4. Index says:

    Oh by the way,
The Original creator Kazuma Kamachi did the story, he came with so much material that they could have created 1 season of Index.

And about the Shutaura and her inability to hear music is because she (and all the passengers) wished for a miracle in the plane-crash and for that miracle to happen “her voice” became the medium for her other-self which contained Shuraura’s voice and the prayers of the passengers that Meigo Arisa. That’s why she can’t hear and understand music it’s because she doesn’t have them.
