Welcome to METANORN’s Spring Anime Catalogue of 2013!
It’s SO HOTTTTTTTTTTT! This is supposed to be Spring isn’t it? But, nope, I already have a hot and humid situation going on. I’m jealous of half of the Canadians, Americans and Europeans who are getting snow blowing on their faces right now. Sure, they’ll complain of frostbite and what not but I’m not listening! I hoped Spring to be hotter in terms of titles though but except for a few stars (Titan, Railgun, Azazel), I’m really not looking forward to many. Is this the three-year syndrome? I hope not. Another cool announcement is the fact that there are two new writers to be introduced: Highway and Sumairii, who have joined the Metanorn Team this Spring. Along with their welcome, let’s get this show on the road!
A new season with new opportunities, new anime, and even new writers. Yes, spring looks like it will be a lot more promising than winter. I was finding it hard to enjoy myself when only the 2-cour shows like JoJo and Psycho-Pass were keeping me happy. Good riddance, winter! It’s time for change.
Well the winter anime season is over, which makes me sad because we has lots of hit shows that wrapped up with Robotic;Notes, Psycho-Pass, Shin Sekai Yori, Sakurasou and lots of surprise hits for me personally like Mondaiji and Kotoura-san so yeah I had a blast last season, but it is time to look toward the future and say hello spring-chan! I can’t tell you how excited I am to see Railgun S, Nyaruko s2 and all the freaking giant robots?! Yes, this is a season that has me feeling very happy.
New season with new anime, new manga, new writers, but same work… *sigh* To be honest I don’t know what to expect from the new season because I’ve been busy with RL that I have little time for anime now. Sad, I know. There are some titles such as Azazel-san that will brighten my day with their gags, so I guess I have something to look forward to? And that new mecha anime oh god, can’t wait to see them.
I can’t believe that it’s spring already. Where did winter go?? I’m not ready for finals yet!!!! Can’t we just skip to summer? OTL But uh, I guess a new anime season is always good. Chihayafuru is sticking around, but there are also a bunch of new shows to look forward to. Utapri should be fabulous and I’m sure there will be other great shows (and not so great ones that I’ll watch regardless) that I’ll pick up since spring is one of the ‘good’ seasons of anime.
It’s Spring! Another year to lament how I’m not in Japan and how I don’t get to see pretty Sakura :c That aside, this season looks pretty promising with a variety of interesting titles in the different genre, and I’m personally looking forward to Devil Survivor 2 and Karneval! I need something to fill the gaping hole Shinsekai Yori and Psycho Pass have left in my heart.
New seasons are always a bit of a crap shoot. There are just so many ways that a given premise can go right or wrong. How many people expected Guilty Crown to turn out that way? Or Girls und Panzer? Even adaptations can be tough to predict; Bakemonogatari came from a pair of rather unremarkable light novels, after all. Sequels made by the same staff are probably the safest bets, which is why I’m eagerly looking forward to Haiyore! Nyaruko-san W. But, as usual, I’ll be letting you, my fellow fans, guide me in what series to check out as they start airing.
Hurrah for another new season of anime! I get the impression that Spring brings a greater assemblage of shows than Winter, and if you take a look at some of the many animu charts for both seasons, you’ll see that this is in fact the case. Of course, Winter also had many great two-cours continuing from Fall (SSY, ZnT, Sakurasou, and the noitaminA slots), which I’m sad to see go. But with Spring comes a good number of “big name” shows and sequels, which I’m sure we’re all excited to see.
My first season of anime at Metanorn looks like it will be a lot of fun. And while winter season had a lot of carryover shows (nearly all of which were excellent), there’s nothing I’ve been watching continuing into Spring, and that means a lot of unknown experiences coming up. While there are a couple returning shows, a lot is brand new, and I’ll probably watch almost all of it! Spring is traditionally a strong anime season, so let’s see if 2013 can continue that trend.We made it in time, wooooo! Though, as always compilation took its sweet time. Enjoy the cool graphics and information overload but you can always skim over to your favourite titles and/or genre. We’ve made the list comprehensive and compact enough for you to read in one go so…

You should definitely watch OreGairu, I’ve the light novel series, I think it’s wonderful~ and I reccomend Henneko and Nyaruko, since Henneko is pretty nice and Nyaruko because I love comedy hahaha. EVERYONE SHOULD WATCH AIURA ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

But look at OreShura that recently ended. The full name for the anime is Ore no Kanojo to Osananajimi ga Shuraba Sugiru. That’s a long name worthy enough to take on Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru and beat it.

I’ll be honest, I don’t think anyone’s talking about Aiura cause there wasn’t a whole lot of information out around it. Like I said, with that much info, I was expecting it to be a 5 minute episode (and it turns out that it is). And while some of them can be fun (Mangirl may have been my favorite from last season, name notwithstanding), it doesn’t leave a lot of room for talking about.

If you are planning to get DeSu2 you might want to hold on a while….. DeSu2 Break Record is coming out for 3DS…. And the anime changing quite some events in the game so just watch it anyways.

I’ve already said the animes that will be on my list for this season, but one that I’m really looking forward to is Devil Survivor 2. Ever since Persona 4, I’ve been looking forward to anime adaptations of Atlus games like Persona 3 The Movie. They could do an adaptation of Catherine as well…
There is the sequels like Nyaruko-san \o/ and OreImo \o/ Two amazing shows that I kept rooting for a second season when they ended.
There is Suisei no Gargantia, because you can’t help but expect great things from stories from Urobutcher and Attack on Titans, especially when I heard it is an adaptation from an award-winning manga.
And there is Hentai Ouji, because it really does promise a lot of laughs and Karneval… I can’t help but think that those character designs are pretty amazing.

Devil Survivor’s first episode wasn’t bad so I’m reserving my comments till next two episodes but they have the music down for sure. Loved the ED.
Don’t want to put too much expectation on Gargantia because well, you know what happens then… *cough*GuiltyCrown*cough* Though, Titan should be awesome.
Looking forward to Henneko as well and I’d like to see some more characters of Karneval.

Sigh, I might add GK Majestic Prince to my watch list, as I enjoyed Gundam Seed, but this looks like a Gundam knock-off and not a good one. It has the same designs, mechas and battles, but it looks more like a comedy than a space drama. I’ll have to watch an episode or so to find out if I will watch it for the long-haul.

Gargantia looks interesting, but I’ve been burned too often by those series that want to have a cool male fighter lead, only to have him go from cool to annoying because the annoying female lead wants to make a peaceful schoolboy out of him.
Ugggh! This reminds me of Full Metal Panic, and while I like the show and have all of the seasons on DVD, it still irks me with some of it’s themes. I get that same vibe from this. Maybe I’ll read the blog and then see how the show will go before I make any commitment.

Ohmygosh! Ohmygosh! Omygosh! I can’t believe it! There’s a Yuu Watase anime out this year?! I have read almost all her manga series and seen/own all her anime series. I will definitely be adding Arata Kangatari to my list. Yes, I know it’s reverse harem, but I love her plots and characters so much. She is one of the few reverse harem mangakas I can tolerate. From watching the preview, the animation looks okay, not great but okay. I hope they don’t drop the ball on this.

Wow. Just watched the Date A Live pre-air. It was a NND LQ stream, but it was one heck of a show.
I look forward to watching it in all the HD glory I can get. It looks very original in style for the tropes they build it from. If they manage to keep up with the style of this initial outing, we may be looking at Best of the Season here.

It’s great to have a list of most of the titles for Spring, but where is Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199? I think it’s unusual for any site to skip over a remake of a Classic Leiji Matsumoto story.

anaaga’s already ahead of that, as she’s been reviewing them since the BD’s have been coming out. The BD translations and fan releases have slowed down, I’m guessing in anticipation of the TV series coming up, and we’ll see if anyone starts subtitling them, or licensing the show.
I love the show, tho, it’s soooooo gorgeous. I’ve watched the Yamato lift off from Earth about 20 times.

Last season wasn’t too heavy for me, 14 watched/watching, with 7 dropped. This season looks like less (22 shows; however it looks like there will be more that I’ll follow through to the end).

KARA THE ANIMATION– My sister told me they’re not that good, so I changed my mind, hahaRDG: Red Data Girl – P AAAAA!!!!!!!!!! And I love Kishida Mel’s artwork. I bought the Atelier series solely for that reason. Though Ayesha and Escha & Logy don’t have Mel’s artwork and only English tracks… blasphemy!
Hataraku Maou-sama! – Looks like some silly fun, plus White Fox is animating! I’ve liked every series they’ve done, so here’s for another!
Yahari Ore no Seishun Rabukome wa Machigatteiru – School + comedy = automatic watch. Actually I think anything that has school or mecha is an automatic green card. It’s my kryptonite.
Photo Kano – Kimikiss was awesome. Amagami SS was pure win. Highly anticipated in my books!
DEVIL SURVIVOR 2 THE ANIMATION – The game was loads of fun, so looking forward to seeing this animated. Though I would have started with the first series imo.
Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Bride – Really enjoyed the first season so def. watching this. Bring on the ink splots!
Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai – Yes! Yes! Yes! Bring on more Kirino! Ok fine, Kuroneko too. (Is ClariS doing the OP/ED? I want more!)
Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199 – Old school space operas! I never watched the original series, but I’m interested enough to try it out this time.
Suisei no Gargantia – Mecha + Production I.G. I’m in!
Aiura – My 5 minute dose of moe! Last season let me down as Tamako sucked ***** imho.
Kakumeiki Valvrave – It’s Sunrise plus mecha. Sunrise usually guarantees me an entertaining train-wreck at a minimum. However Ginga Kikoutai Majestic Prince really let me down. Don’t fail me Sunrise!
Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S – If you haven’t watched the first season, go watch it. It’s 100% better than Index and without the whiny Index. Saten Ruiko is my waifu. No, not really, but she’s so cute.
Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko – The manga is great, looking forward to seeing how this will be animated.

Karneval – I have no idea what this is, but there’s lots of bishonen! And it’s got a pretty good cast, so I’ll take this for a test drive around the block.
Ginga Kikoutai Majestic Prince – (dropped). Anything mecha usually is guaranteed a view but this was just horrible. Show ▼
Date A Live – Not sure what to expect out of this, it doesn’t strike me as anything unique but it sounds edcent enough to warrant a look. Actually, the premise sounds a little like Mugen Souls (saw that on sale at Play Asia recently but didn’t get it). A loli conquering the world with love, one person at a time ^^
Zettai Bouei Leviathan – Based on a mobile game… I don’t know where to start. The redeeming factor is the all-star cast. Maybe they know something about mobile games that I don’t know about. Hm hm…
Shingeki no Kyojin – Story seems good and its action-packed. But there’s a horror element, so I’m not too sure. That’s what stopped me from appreciating Amnesia more, because of the horror element.
Hayate no Gotoku! Cuties – This one is a wild card. I really enjoyed the first two seasons, but the third had me face-palming. The movie was what is this I don’t even. Not very high expectations, but we’ll see.
Arata Kangatari – Not expecting much, and don’t really like the character designs. On the fence about this one.
Yuyushiki – Again, don’t like the character designs. I do like 4-koma adaptions, so here’s hoping I can overcome the wall of ugly-character-designs.

I'm not a big fan of the mech designs however. But when that gunner kid asked was being informed about the weapons, the mechanics in the background oh hahahaha, those sparkling teeth! Awesome.
Makes me miss Star Driver. If you're going to go over the top on mecha designs, you can't beat Star Driver.

Yes, it’s quite faaaabulous. Over-the-top and highly entertaining.
I got introduced to 9nine through Star Driver. And while they seem to have purged the PV from everywhere except some random hard to find ddl sites, if you can find the original PV for 9nine – Cross Over, it’s just hilarious. They have good voices, but that PV was so… ahhh.. my sides hurt so much. It’s awesome quality ^^

I can understand about Majestic Prince, I didn’t have high hopes going in though. I like my mecha space epics to have a little more epic in them instead of nonsensical nonsense.
I am a Gundam fangirl, having seen at least a good 20 different series from the original and my favorite, Gundam 0079 to the awesome Gundam Unicorn. I have also branched into other mechas from Macross to Full Metal Panic and in all the shows, I have never seen such a generic jumble as Majestic Prince. It was a let down and is close to being dropped if they don’t step it up.

NO WAY! 😛 Gundam Seed was my very first Gundam and I absolutely loved it (Destiny on the other hand…well not one of my favorites). It was before I started watching subbed animes or even knew you could do such a thing, so I waited patiently to buy each DVD when it came out. Wow…how time has flown.
Gundam 0079 is my favorite because unlike many of the shows that came after it (including Seed unfortunately), its lead didn’t whine and cry about war and didn’t include such heavy-handed sappy peace messages. It treated the war like a war and didn’t cry about it. Also it introduced me to the one, the original Char Aznable (aka Prince Casval Rem Deikun) and he alone is one of the reasons why it’s my favorite. Char is one of my favorite anime characters of all time!
But yeah, love Seed. Athrun was my favorite, closely followed by Dearka.

I feel a little guilty for being absent for so long. I’m on lurker mode again, because I haven’t watched any ongoings for a long time 🙁 I feel like I’m getting too impatient for new shows :S
Most of the new shows I’m interested to see are already out, so this time I’m not going to miss out any like I did during several previous seasons =3=
So, what I want to see that’s already out is – Karneval, Yahari, Devil Survivor, Aku no Hana, Shingeki no Kyojin. So, that leaves only Higurashi that is yet to release. That one I’m most excited about, cantwaitcantwait~
