I already know what I am going to watch for spring. I can’t wait to watch more forks in Haiyore! Nyaruko-san *-*

    • Restia says:

      oh yes! (」・ω・)」うー!(/・ω・)/ NYARUKOOOO RETURNSSSSS
but I’m also waiting for Railgun 2, Henneko, Oreimo 2, Date A Live (hopefully this is good, I hope they don’t cut if off at Volume 3, but up to Volume 4 might be abit too much to fit into one season ._.), Hamachi (yesyesyes I love this, except the art direction kind of disappointed me..)

      • JPNIgor says:

Sure I have other things on my list. Actually, my “Plan to watch” list on MAL has never been bigger before. I have Aku no Hana, Devil Survivor 2 (OMG, I wish that it can be as good as Persona 4), Hataraku Maou-sama, Henneko, Karneval, Photo Kano (tamayura harem version), Red Data Girl, Shingeki no Kyojin, Suisei no Gargantia and Hamachi.

        • Highway says:

Hah, I keep calling Photo Kano the prequel to 15 Bishoujo Hyouryuuki

I’ll be trying lots of stuff, as usual, and probably end up watching most of it all season.

          • BlackBriar says:

            You’re a braver man than I am.

            • Highway says:

Hey, current on 23 series this season, and catching up on a couple others. Admittedly 5 are shorts, and two of those are Ai Mai Mi, which is really bad, and Ishida to Asakura, which is almost as bad. But I enjoy Yama no Susume and Mangirl.

I’m even still watching Da Capo, where Kiyotaka isn’t satisfied with the 5 girls who are all over him, and is chasing the magic loli and even goes on a pity date with the girl who likes Suginami.

            • Foshizzel says:

Addicted to anime you are~ (my failed Yoda impersonation)

            • BlackBriar says:

You get points for trying the Yoda impersonation. It’s better to try and fail than to never try at all.

            • Highway says:

*Yoda* Better to fail it is than never have tried…*/Yoda*

          • JPNIgor says:

My only reference for camera animes is tamayura, which was a sweet experience. I expect Photo Kano to at least have some nice scenary porn, because I don’t know why but I’m almost sure that the storyline won’t be good at all. But the synopsis says that he will mostly be taking shots of girls, so…

Anyways, this season I’ll be trying a lot of different seasons. It will be my first time trying something like Shingeki no Kyojin and Hataraku Maou-sama, for example.

            • Highway says:

Tamayura was such a nice series and OVA. I really enjoyed it.

Trust me, I’m half joking about the 15 Bishoujo references, it’s not ‘scenery porn’, it’s just porn. 🙂 But pictures + harem does kind of work as a prequel for it.

        • Foshizzel says:

I love you for mentioning Suisei no Gargantia <3 I CAN'T WAIT!! AHHHHHHHH!!

          • JPNIgor says:

Is it good? *-* I hope not to be disappointed, because the plot on the synopsis looks interesting.

            • BlackBriar says:

Since it’s being scripted by Gen Urobuchi who helmed Fate/Zero in the past and currently with Psycho-Pass, it should be a promising anime. Since this is the Urobutcher we’re talking about, expect a lot of deaths and tragedy.

            • JPNIgor says:

              Urowhat? .-.

Anyways, I’m feeling sad for the fact that I haven’t watched Fate/Zero… And I won’t because I’m too lazy and way too busy to watch past animes.

            • BlackBriar says:

“Urobutcher”. It’s the nickname commenters gave Gen Urobuchi because of his sadistic tendencies to kill off main and supporting characters without a second thought in his stories, he doesn’t even show any mercy to the purely innocent characters who end up in the crosshairs of the fight between the good guys and bad guys. Psycho-Pass is one of his shows and everyone has marked it for the scene where the lead girl’s best friend got her throat slit by the villain as punishment to the lead girl for not meeting his demands.

            • JPNIgor says:

              Ooooh, he’s the guy behind Psycho-Pass… Hmm…

Yeah, he is a butcher. I still remember my girly screams when he slit her throat. That was too cruel… Even for me TT.TT Don’t he have a heart, damn it?

    • Foshizzel says:

      Hellllll yesssss more Nyaruko-san ftw~

      • JPNIgor says:

        More sexual harassment, ftw \o/

        • BlackBriar says:

Sexual harassment is what makes the ecchi genre what it is.

      • BlackBriar says:

More fork stabbing from Mahiro and yuri lusting from Kuuko.

        • JPNIgor says:

More videogame console references from Kuuko!

          • Restia says:

Kuuko is full of win *200th comment before I swap names again. This.. will be the last time.. I have a valid reason for changing names this time as well.. kinda.

            • BlackBriar says:

Hey, come on! You just reached a milestone for yourself and you’ve gone farther than you ever have with your other names. Changing your name now seems pointless and I think “Restia” is a good one. I seriously doubt you’d want to go through all that work again.

            • Restia says:

I’m currently ‘Restia’ on practically every account right now XD I like to have things coordinated. And I quite like Restia too! I usually change names when I get bored of one (sorry ._.) but I’m still fine with Restia even after ~ a month? *PERSONAL RECORD* not really but I’m using this name everywhere it’s a miracle I’m not sick of it yet. I just need to go a month without changing my avatar now that’s probably impossible.

Anywho, I said I have a valid reason this time, I have a lot of hobbies other than anime, Fosh might know, he streamed through all of my crap XD, and I wanted an original name. Restia, is the name of the Darkness Spirit in the Light Novel series Seirei Tsukai no Blade Dance, which is one of my favorite LNs~ Restia is full of win, but Seirei is at Volume 10 now, an anime adaption has a good chance of happening imo. I don’t really want to mistook as a role-player etc etc etc. :/ …Blade Dance FTW. Except Kamito’s swords really are unattractive. Seriously.

            • Highway says:

You’re worrying too much. Stick with the name if you like it.

            • Restia says:

err well, I do like it, also love the character haha but I have a lot of hobbies as I already told you XD that include art & music. I want to use a name to promote my works when I get better and I feel like that would have problems with copyright. Or I’m being paranoid again. OTL

Anywho though, my name is a crystal clear reference to the series if you’ve read the novels, I’ve searched Restia on Google too, XD only results are from Seirei Tsukai no BD translations

idk. Changing names is pain for me too XD I like to be organized an have all accounts the same names, so I’d have to re-create things like my Youtube and other stuff =_=

  2. BlackBriar says:

    Great podcast, guys (and girl).

After seeing the current episodes of Psycho-Pass, I came to the conclusion that Sibyl System was an outlet for anti-social individuals to raise themselves above others because they were outcasts and they’d do anything to keep their secret. It’s hypocrital because it’s a “justice” system composed of the minds of psychopaths. At first, it almost seemed like a close to real life version of The Matrix where machines were designed to monitor and maintain control over humans. In another point of view, it’s close to that because they use humans (their brains, actually) to power the machines, the cymatic scans. The irony here is that over the years, people grew dependant and machines to survive and in the anime, it’s the reversal for the Sibyl System.

It became easy to side with Makishima’s views because the population was basically a flock of sheep waiting for direction. That and that being under its rule has developed side effects like Rikako’s father losing his reason for living or being unable to properly evaluate imminent danger right in front of you like the helmet segment in episodes 14 and 15. Makishima even mentioned that stress has beneficial effects, that it is necessary to stimulate the immune system, a motivation in one’s life and what Sibyl was doing was completely suppressing the chances. The people found their sense of stress numbed so much that they were unable to recognize stimulation and in the end, they’re the same as corpses with their nervous system at a halt and vital functions shutting down. The result: their lifespan ends up decreasing. Rikako’s father being the perfect example.

I remember watching Gundam Wing when Toonami was a weekly routine. God, I miss those days when Cartoon Network was at its prime. The movie was titled “Endless Waltz”.

Other than Chihayafuru, not a lot of shows for Winter are going past the 12/13 episode mark which is rare to see. Despite the few good shows going on, Winter would have completely been dull if not for the anime left over from Fall 2012. For Spring, there’s a lot of selections and it’s quite intimidating. I’ve got eyes on Karneval, Suisei no Gargantia, Devil Survivor 2: The Animation, Shingeki no Kyojin, Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge, Aku no Hana, Date A Live, Hyakka Ryouran: Samurai Bride (Gotta marathon the first season first), RDG: Red Data Girl, Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S and the next Haiyore! Nyaruko-san. My anticipation is mostly concentrated on Railgun because it’s Railgun meaning more Misaka and friends and Suisei no Gargantia because Gen Urobuchi is heading the script and I need a replacement for Psycho-Pass when it finally comes to an end.

@Fosh: Regarding next season. Since it’s a safe bet that you’re going to blog the second season of Railgun, can you go back to the traditional way of blogging, the written reviews, just for that series? It’s not that the new way isn’t bad, it goes great with shows like Kotoura-san and Mondaiji but I think the traditional way is easier for people to understand your thoughts on how complex Railgun’s story will continue to be. They would be detailed and that way, people could share their opinions better.

    • Foshizzel says:

Suisei no Gargantia, Date A Live, Hyakka Ryouran: Samurai Bride, Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S and next Haiyore! Nyaruko-san! All excellent choices <3

Yep! I have my eyes locked on Railgun for episodic blogging as well as Nyaruko S2, unless someone else wants to tackle that one? As for the video only reviews I suppose I can jump back to normal reviews as long as there is something to actually write about! I remember there were episodes of Railgun s1 that were boring or to slice of life-ish in nature which had little to nothing to talk about.

The video reviews where kind of a test run for the winter season, that and I have started following several video only reviewers on youtube that review manga/anime/games which got me interested in trying that! I suppose you could say it gets the Metanorn “name” out there.

I should do a vote which series in spring do you want me to do just video reviews for? Maybe with the final Mondaiji episode or Kotoura? I forget which series gets most of the hits because I have a general interest in one of the other mecha shows and Date A Live, maybe those two will fit for that set up? We shall see I guess I have Doki Doki Precure for videos >.>

    • Jrow says:

      Thanks for listening.

I think I might’ve seen Endless Waltz before the entirety of Wing. I bought that DVD at a Suncoast store way back when. Wing Zero Custom is still a great gundam.

  3. Highway says:

I finally made it through almost an entire podcast! Actually, that’s not really something to be proud of…

Fosh, good interview with JoeAnimated. I liked his question of “What series did you drop initially but come back to and liked?”

I’ve put most of my Psycho-Pass thoughts in the threads for that, so I won’t really go back and reiterate them here, except to say that I’m somewhat surprised that I’ve turned into the biggest Sibyl System defender around here. I don’t know if it’s a different perspective I have, or a different realization about the way people are, or even just a different understanding about what Sibyl does, but I really don’t think, as a system of governance, that it’s that bad. I’m disappointed in the idea that IT’S PEOPLE!!!! but apart from that, it’s never indicated that it’s as arbitrary as being people would seem to indicate. In fact, it’s been shown that it’s *not* arbitrary, to a fault, when they can’t even put a flag on Makishima and allow the Dominators to work on him.

I also disagree about the ‘totalitarian’ aspect of it, based on the idea that there are still people who do things that aren’t approved by Sibyl, and they’re not hauled into jail unless they are shown to be risks in the same way that other people are risks. To me, it indicates that most people are happy to go along with the suggestions / recommendations that Sibyl makes for them. And if they do end up happy doing that, you wonder how much of a problem there really is? It seems they still *do* have the freedom to fail, if they can handle it, but if you were given the choice of “You will do well in this field, or you can pick something that we think you won’t be good at” which would you pick? Especially if the entity telling you that you’d be good at something had an excellent track record of being right? I think we’re getting an extremely skewed view of the system, both because it’s TV, where they have to show conflict and trouble to make it interesting, and because it’s Urobuchi, who it seems is far more interested in making his points than in crafting a good story.

    • Foshizzel says:

      Nice Highway! Congratulations <3

Yeah JoeAnimated knows his stuff when it comes to asking questions and it helps that he runs a live show every Tuesday, but he is switching to Wednesday nights xD

I don't normally post about Psycho-Pass I mean I do enjoy it week to week because it gets people talking about all kinds of things! That and it doesn't get complex it keeps you in the loop without getting to "deep"

  4. Highway says:

For upcoming shows, I’m interested in quite a few, and as I said above, I’ll probably be watching a lot. I tend to not get too excited about new shows outside of a couple, and don’t worry about expectations. Like I mentioned, Red Data Girl sounds right up my alley – Hayami Saori, miko, PA Works – and I really enjoyed some of the shows that we’re getting sequels of: OreImo, Hyakka Ryouran especially.

I actually started watching Railgun Series 1 this week, and am 4 episodes in now. I hope it stays the way it is, because I really like it so far, much much more than I ever liked Index. In fact, the only thing I haven’t liked is when Touma shows up, so I hope that doesn’t turn into a bigger thing. Someone should have mentioned that it’s so significantly different in scope and tone from Index, because I probably would have watched it sooner. I really love slice-of-life, and hope there’s more. Long involved story arcs are more meh.

I’m enjoying the Winter season, and I think a lot of that is that I *try* not to have preconceptions about shows beyond “I’ll give that a try.” That’s the same attitude I’m taking into Spring. As you guys mentioned, sometimes it’s better to not have a lot of hype for some shows, but it’s also not good to go in thinking everything’s going to be crap. When you have a preconceived notion about how something is going to be, the natural result is that you want to confirm those notions, so you will view whatever the subject is through that lens. Most of all, people like to be right. So that means they look for the things that will make them right, even if it’s to the detriment of their enjoyment.

    • Foshizzel says:

Damn I wish I had all the episodes of Railgun! I should do a rewatch before the next season kicks off? I wonder if I can squeeze in a video review of season one to prepare people for the next run? This is a interesting idea hahahah

Without spoiling it though Highway! If you are enjoying the slice of life moments then you will have no issues getting through Railgun, but don’t worry about the random Touma appearances to much that is all I will say xD
