Maoyuu Maou Yuusha – 07: So much fanservice in the first half from Knight. I’m glad she’s the type of girl who isn’t self conscious about her body and brushes the knowledge of people seeing her off. Her strong willed nature in that aspect is easily comparable to Dakara Boku wa H ga Dekinai’s Lisara who was just walking around and fighting in her underwear for the later half of the series.

With all these things Maou is bringing in front of the humans, I’m always wondering what time this is set in. I mean, a water pump must have been one of the most simple machines they had in the old eras.

Maou and Knight are good friends for being straightforward and not trying to backstab each other to get Yuusha. However, Yuusha is a terrible actor at pretending to sleep. Anyone other than the lovestruck girls could tell he was still awake.

And since when do demons of royal blood need a licence to rule their kingdom? That went over my head completely. I’m sensing some conflict may be coming while Maou is gone as much indicated by the OP when the Head Maid was cornered into a wall missing one of her arms.

    • Highway says:

Yeah, that scene with the missing arm in the OP worries me as well. I am guessing it might have something to do with the the warning that Maou said as she went into the crypt: “If I come out and I’m not myself…”

I think the idea of it being a ‘license’ is just a convenient analogy for us. Basically, I think what she really needs is the continued approval of the ancient powers of the demon realm, thus the visiting in turn of the graves of previous demon kings. Otherwise her authority will be challenged by other factions of the demon realm. Remember that there are always plenty of people around with Royal blood.

I’m pretty sure there were water pumps by the time of the Ancient Greeks, if not before. While you can’t directly relate the time period of another world to ours (developments will occur at different times), I think my guess previously of 1400-1450 with anomalies is close. It was a time when the Middle Ages were coming to an end and the seeds of the Renaissance were being sown. And we see the beginnings of a renaissance being sown in this world. In our world Gutenberg invented his printing press in 1450, 4 crop rotation was introduced in the early 16th C. (popularized in the early 18th C.) and potato farming brought to Europe in the late 16th C. And while there have been wealthy merchants since early civilization, the Late Middle Ages and Early Renaissance is when mercantialism really began to take hold and merchant associations gained real power. We see that in Maoyuu’s world with their merchants league and in ours with the Hanseatic League and Venice and Genoa, though the merchants league in Maoyuu seems even more powerful than those.

Senran Kagura – 07: Hey! Who let pedobear’s polar region cousin, twice removed, in this show?! The setting is in Japan so we’d be expecting grizzly bears. Katsuragi dealt with the polar pretty easily. She must be related to Mayo Chiki’s Kureha.

I don’t blame Yagyuu for not believing in Hibari’s abilities. At this point, does she even have abilities? Up until she saved her, the girl hasn’t done anything of merit other than being a hopeless damsel in distress. Apparently, she only reacts when others are in trouble instead of her. It’s sweet and admirable but pointless if the girl can’t defend herself.

I’ve seen too many animes. Too many similarities. Daidouji looks like a burly version of Binbougami ga’s Ranmaru. And just her, she can tough but also easy to tolerate whenever she doesn’t have to put up a front. However, she’s weird in her own way. I can’t imagine anyone who’d willingly repeat their classes over and over again.

    • Highway says:

I think Daidouji’s boobs get bigger every scene. When you watch ep 8, look for this…

Hibari is definitely still the weak link, and is going to continue to be. You wonder how she got into Hanzou Academy anyway.

    • Foshizzel says:

Polar bears beware! Big boobed ninjas are after you, also it seems anime and bears go hand and hand and yeah Kureha comes to mind, but there are lots of other shows that have bear “fights”

Yagyuu could have easily escaped those fish…I think she let Hibari “save” her lololol

Daidouji could easily pass off as Ranmaru’s older sister or mother…LOL…

Vividred Operation – 07: Rei is slowly but surely losing her way to Akane and her friends. When I think of what situation she’s in and what she’s trying to do, I’m easily reminded of a similar characteristic in Senki Zesshou Symphogear’s Chris Yukine. They’re both heartbroken, misguided, untrusting of others but slowly wavering to the lead girl’s charm. Obviously that bastard crow is going to catch on and things are going to hit the fan.

Akane sure has it rough with her current life. School, a part time job and a huge responsibility on her shoulders. She’s being forced into being an adult before her time but in a ditzy fashion, she always manages to brush things off. What a very easy-going girl. It’s no wonder she attracted all the other girls around her. She really love mayo. I guess she’s not afraid of constipation.

Other than Evangelion, I’m getting Sacred Seven vibes with these Alones coming in different shapes and sizes every week. Vividred Operation is trying out a cliffhanger scenario and it’s welcomed. We can’t have everything panning out nicely all the time. In my opinion, all the conflicts were won a bit too easily.

  4. HannoX says:

Vividred: Wakaba really went for Momo in an apron. Does she prefer young girls? And how would she react to Momo in a maid outfit?

It’s about time this series tried to raise the tension level in the fights by having one of the girls (Akane in this case) hurt by one of the Alone and in more danger as she plummets to the Earth. So will two or all three of the other girls dock in order to save her and defeat the Alone? I suspect so, but it could be more interesting if the other girls discover they can’t dock, that Akane is the key to that. They’ll still save her next episode, but if she’s injured and necessary for them to dock, that could make for a more interesting story line for a couple episodes until she’s back on her feet.

    • Highway says:

Given the bonds shown on the show, it might be a situation where all can dock with Akane (or more that Akane can dock with all of them), but that Aoi is unable to dock with anyone else, and Wakaba and Himawari can dock together. That doesn’t exactly make the best color, tho.

      Vivid Barfy Green!

    • skylion says:

Who wouldn’t go for Momo in an apron?

      • BlackBriar says:

Any girl in an apron deserves notice. It’s just something that pulls your attention.

  5. KLACMAN says:

maoyu – give now on ep.7 & 8 give hero being sandwich by red & yellow but when get ep.8 oh my yea there probs going.

vivid rangers – give seeing is slow turn to later we get vivid black on way yea unless reveal what really going on?

senran- on seen both 7 & 8 give big climb training & cat ninja lady yet on 8 we had how they enroll to school (give saw how wonder what happen on ep 9 next?)

  6. BlackBriar says:

Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo – 19: With so many random encounters and out of the box mannerisms from the residents, I can see why Sorata called Sakurasou a loony bin in the first episode. It houses people like how I imagine an insane asylum would be and Misaki definitely needs a room with padded walls for her hyperactivity. Jin is a maverick. Dating four women at the same time and one of them is married? The dude has no shame.

What I like is that everyone realizes what they have being a resident of Sakurasou before it’s actually taken from them. They show how grateful they are for being there which is nice to see. I’m willing to put the romance parts aside for now to see the real reason why Sakurasou is threatened with demolition. You can feel there’s a cover up going on.

    • Highway says:

I dunno, I think as we saw before, Jin had plenty of shame about it, and was trying to drown his true feelings. Although doing it by being a gigolo may not have been the best idea… 😉

      • skylion says:

“there will come a day, when youth will pass away, what will they say about me?”

      • BlackBriar says:

It was as low as you can get but strangely, I can’t help but applaud his player skills. Man, I’m so conflicted.

  7. Highway says:

Vividred: You bring up the comparison to Strike Witches. For whatever reason, I was thinking about Strike Witches last week (unrelated to Vividred, but the point gets there), and realizing that the Neuroi, and now the Alone, go through umpteen designs of attack vehicles and strategies, never really trying the same one twice. We were seeing these shows from the standpoint of the girls having to fight hard to be able to beat these varied designs, worrying if their single style of defense is enough to beat all this great design.

But what about the designers of these attack craft? Hell, the Neuroi must think that they’ve got the most inferior designers ever, because they’re throwing new design after new design at the Strike Witches, and they ALL LOSE. How do they know that there isn’t some even BIGGER weapon that the humans have? Yeah, they’ve taken over parts of Europe, but now they’re almost completely stymied. And everything they come up with, all these crazy ideas, gets blown up by these freakin’ girls! How frustrating must that be.

And the Alone are probably thinking the same thing. Even after they get their own Magical Girl, they’re still getting beaten by these other girls.
