Metanorn Site Updates

Some Site Announcements with our Summer Schedule and Fresh Catches~

It’s update time as promised to some regulars on our IRC channel and you must have already noticed some things not in their usual place and tweaking od our design. Well, in short, we did receive quite a lot of feedback at the end of second Aniblog Tourney (we couldn’t have asked for more, pun intended), and we decided to work on them. Of course, we were never about looks so the updates touch upon our content as well.

Content Tweaks:

  • If you have been an old reader, you should have noticed the changed format of our episodics, which now center on aniblogger thoughts rather than summary. We started this trend last season and trying to get better this season so everyone is really looking forward to your feedback on what you like and don’t.
  • Episodics to be less image-heavy but don’t expect us to shed our funny-bone and captions.
  • Expect more Editorials and Off-the-wall content.

Site Tweaks:

  • Feast your eyes on a tweaked design with less clutter.
  • New favicon; see that letter M on the tab of your browser?
  • CDN service activation for quicker page load.
  • Robust IRC channel (#[email protected]) for various discussions around the hour.
  • Better links and easy sidebar navigation.

Summer 2012 Schedule:

The above titles do not include the two-cour Spring titles already covered on Meta Mash (to restart from Monday)

Fresh Meat!

I hope you have noticed two new names in the authors column. Yes, after a year since last hiring, it’s time to fill in the two spaces left behind by Hime and Zabo after they got too busy with RL and studies to continue their aniblogging careers. We would definitely miss them and I’m sure the new blood has to fit into sizable shoes but that is how things are and they are brimming with vigour to showoff their individual flair along with the anibloggers you already know. Please join the Metanorn Team to welcome them on-board:

Waddup peeps. My name is Sushi GoKart. My friends call me Sushi. I write about Anime. I was going to keep my introduction at that but apparently management says it has to be a bit more informative. So here it is. I’ve only been blogging for a short while now but I am excited for my opportunity to work with Metanorn. Most of my work really brings a close lens to Anime and what it can offer to us not just as form of entertainment but as a form of art.

I was born and raised in New York City, New York where I currently live. While it is expensive as hell to live here, it allowed me to be exposed to anime at a very young age. I still remember wondering what the hell Nausica was and being utterly confused as I played it on my VCR. But I enjoyed it and continued to rent Anime tapes from local video rental store. Today I am bit more savvy with my Blu-Rays and streams, thankfully.

When I’m not watching Anime I am usually nerding out to latest hipster music trends or playing Magic the Gathering at my local store. I can say that I am a connoisseur of Mexican beers but that’s just an excuse to go the bar every so often. I love long walks on the beach. When I’m on the train or bus I usually bust out my DS or PSP and play some RPGs. Shin Megami Tensei is hands down my favorite series of games. Did I mention the long walks on the beach? Call me 😉

Hi there! I’m Magus_Killer. I come from the island nation of the Philippines, a.k.a. the Pearl of the Orient. I’ve been lurking and commenting on Metanorn for quite some time now, approximately around the time when Fate/Zero (and no, I do not live on Alimango Island) started airing – and now I’m a new member of the team. Hooray! =)

I’ve been watching anime since I was a kid, with Voltes V, Daimos, and Combattler V being my first entry into the anime/manga fandom. From there on out, my primary genre of interest in anime and manga has always been Science Fiction, with the sub-genre of Mecha. However, I’ve since expanded my horizons and am now watching Romantic Comedy, Slice-of-Life, History, and Fantasy-genre anime. I’ve even dabbled a few times into Shoujou-ai territory i.e., Maria-sama ga Miteru. As long as there’s a good plot and well-written characters, I’m watching it.

When not studying, watching anime and reading manga or WarHammer 40,000 novels, I am most likely playing the Yu-Gi-Oh! Official Card Game, whether it’s real-life ranking tournaments on weekends, or on Dueling Network Online. To my present and future readers, please bear with my writing since I’m new to anime blogging, even though I’ve been writing for some quite time now. It’s a new experience for me and I am still trying to unlearn what I’ve learned. I’ll probably get better with time, maybe? Well that’s it. This is Magus_Killer. Nice to meet you and have nice day!

So, I’m done with updates. Our dear readers and lurkers, do let us know your thoughts on the tweaks and variety of posts we have been dishing out lately. Anything you dis/like and/or feedback is highly welcome. We are almost done with the first impressions of Summer so we are full swing on season coverage along with some special posts as usual. And welcome, Kerry and Sushi who have graduated from being Metanorn commentor and IRC regular respectively to join the Team. Till next time, ja ne~

These two names look awfully familiar to me 😉 In any case, glad you’re here and the best of luck with your future writings!

  2. Yerocha says:

Always good to see new blood around. I haven’t been watching much of this season, but I’ll be sure to check you guys out when I can.

  3. Highway says:

    Good luck, you guys.

  4. Toori-chan says:

Hmm… most of the updates are the ones I’m aware of… but new blood? Didn’t see that coming.

This is not the first time seeing Magus_Killer around. Never expected him to join the team. I’m not familiar with Sushi but he sounds like a cool person. Good luck in writing both of you.

  5. Foshizzel says:

Welcome to the team you two! Woooooo! I can’t wait to work with you

  6. Amutofan123 says:

    Yay! New peoples! Welcome!

  7. The_Magus_Killer says:

Thank you all for the warm welcome – it’s raining hard where I am right now, so I’m sort of cold and wet, with a tenuous internet connection. XD

*feels the pressure to finish Oda Nobuna no Yabou‘s First Impressions post*

By the way, I use “The_Magus_Killer” account for commenting and “Magus_Killer” for ani-blogging. I haven’t found a way to fix the separation of gravatars/accounts yet. XD

Gotta get back to writing. Thanks again for the warm welcome! =)

    *Time Alter – Double Accel*

    • Sushi says:

We should call ourselves the Brothers of Destruction. Be all intimidating and stuff like that!

    • Kyokai says:

Here’s to fix it. Go to gravatar.com and add your emiya.kiri gmail ID to your profile (you can even select different image for it if you want), And now what you comment on any Metanorn post when you are logged in to Metanorn (via dashboard), you don’t have to separately add in email/name as the site would automatically pick it up.

      Welcome to the team. 🙂

      • Magus_Killer says:

Wow. Thanks to Kyokai’s protip I managed to solve the problem. Hooray! =)

Thank you all for the warm welcome! =)

*currently rewatching episodes of Uchuu Kyodai for science and great justice* XD

  8. Rakkyo says:

The site updates look good, but that space below the header on the side-boxes look a bit jarring to me. But that’s just me nitpicking.

All the best to Sushi and Magus_Killer! I look forward to reading your posts.

    • Highway says:

I don’t see a space there, myself, but there’s another behavior that I’ve caught on to that I’m not sure about.

It seems that the Navigation menu on the sidebar is now auto-expanding the category that the post you’re viewing is in. Like because this one is Announcements, Blog Updates, and Featured, the “News and Views” entry is expanded. My concern is on the anime show reviews, when it expands the *very* long Anime section. It really pushes the other stuff down, like the ‘Recent Comments’ box which I use to navigate between comments.

I like the idea of expanding the menus. I’m just not sure if expanding the menus works with such a discrepancy in length of the menu. 🙂

      • Rakkyo says:

Yeah I think we did talk about the new Navigation sidebar in IRC. Will didn’t really like it coz the list is way too long as you said, but Kyokai said it looks good. Which is why we still have the old categories dropdown menu I suppose.

What I do is that I open a new tab for posts, so when I wanted to use the “Recent Comments” box I just switch to the main page. It works pretty well for me, though I have to refresh the main page sometimes for new comments to appear.

Will, where’s the cool animated stuff and interactivity you promised?

      • Kyokai says:

I tracked down that Navigation expansion so it won’t be happening again. It is now programmed to only expand to your last selection if you did some via cookies.

Also, these were minor design tweaking, the theme change observations is still going on. I’ll talk to Will about what he has done via CSS3 and HTML5. xD

  9. Sushi says:

Thanks for the warm welcome guys! My first articles will be up soon so hope you enjoy guys enjoy them. Any feedback helps. And yes I am a cool dude 😉

  10. Tofu says:

Did a hiring window slip pass my radar!? O:<

Well anyways, hope you guys are being treated well within the Meta family Sushi and MK ^^ Best of luck to the both of you!

    • Sushi says:

Thank you very much! You’re support means a lot! 😀

      • Tofu says:

ie ie ie~ *^^* As food products, we must stand strong amongst the many who might try to consume us! >;D (Totally making up stuff on the spot right now)

What are some of your favourite animes series of all time? ^^

    • Kyokai says:

Actually, this time, it was more of quick hiring than me posting and such because I just didn’t have time. So, I grabbed our regulars and told them to go through Metanorn dungeons. These two survived and reached my office so you know what that means. :3

  11. †Croos† says:

-Congrats to the new writers. Everyone now in metanorn can eat free Sushi.
-This doesn’t look right. Sushi should have a sushi picture with him.
This should be Fresh Sushi not Fresh Meat. 😀
-I bet Magus_Killer would be using lots of Time alter moves now.

  12. Hawthorne says:

I have to ask, why “Sushi Gokart”? Is there a story, or just random? It sounds nice together though. ´▽` /always wondered

    • †Croos† says:

      He likes sushi that’s all… I think.
You can even call him SushiTakeOut when he is idling.

  13. kitty says:

No Hime and Zabo ;___; I is very sad!!! But I’m very happy about the fresh meat!! Looking forward to seeing what you can do *cracks out the whip*

Welcome to the team!!! *confetti and cake and what not*

  14. Hoshi says:

~Welcome you guys! Hopefully we can get to know each other soon! And can’t wait to read some of your future posts (◡‿◡✿)

  15. Gecko says:

Hello new writers! Beware, if you guys blog a series I happen to watch, you will get stuck dealing with my rather long comments. Fosh can tell you guys about it. Guilty Crown provided a lot of good material to talk about.

    Sad to see Zabo and Hime leave, though. ;.;

  16. Karakuri says:

Welcome to the team, you two! If you two ever want to tag anything, let me know~

Man, with Fosh, lvlln, Ness, OC and now Sushi with January birthdays, the entire month is going to be a nonstop party. That’s almost half of our writers born within a week or so of each other.

  17. BlackBriar says:

Yes, new updates. Now things will go even smoother.

Oh, yeah!! Fresh meat to break in. Congratulations. It’s an honor to meet you two, Sushi and Magus Killer. Like with other previous new members, I look forward to reading your posts.

@Sushi: You own a DS and a PSP? High five!! I have one of each myself. Now I have the 3DS and PS Vita in my sights.

  18. Tofu says:

Now there’s only one more thing to do… put these two into the next podcast so we can hear their awesome voices! >;D

  19. Luxor says:

Sushi, I hope you do takeout, because I am hungry for you your writing. 😀

  20. Jak says:
