Aniblog Tourney Quarterfinals Plug & Thoughts

Playing the Fate/stay night VN again, Kariya?! What did I tell you, go vote for Metanorn, right now!

You know… It’s not easy to come up with tl;dr stuff every other day! As there are times like these (after effects of formatting fixing html bugs from our Summer Catalogue), after which some R&R is needed. Though, I’m back, refreshed along with updates and the already known news of us reaching the Quarterfinals (the final eight) of Aniblog Tourney. For the people who were complaining about the Tourney going on for so long, look no further because it’s the final stretch and the ultimate winner of Holy Grail War result will be announced on 7th July! The fate will be decided then. Lol. Naah, we are not taking thing so seriously but having fun as we have been from day one.

Our current opponent is Yi from Listless Ink and she’s usually categorized as a yuri writer (like we do as an episodic blog when we are not), who writes varied editorials, animanga reviews and fashion posts as well. Even being a solo blogger, she has invited many guest-bloggers from single to many stints of posts for varied topics, which are interesting reads. For relevance’s sake, I would only put forth our Editorials, Games Section and Anime’s Next Top Model Project for this round. If you like what you read here, we would really appreciate your vote (Note: you won’t see the results after submitting your vote but a number increase in total; the results will be out on 1st July, 8pm GMT).

While we are on voting, I would like to share a mini-conversation I had with few aniblogger friends during round one to see how they voted and made their selection:

Anisphere Twitter-talk: How do you vote in the Aniblog Tourney and what’s your selection process?

• SPIRAL: It’s a tournament for fun. Win or lose, nothing should arise from it. Just have fun – if people want to jump on 100+ different computers to vote for their own site, it’s their own choice. For me, I just get to see new anime blogs and watch the collaboration of many existing ones. Who knew O-new and SOS could get along so well? I don’t care who runs what. Just because I know my mother doesn’t mean I’m going to vote for her as President of the USA.
• EmperorJ: I can’t honestly vote for myself, when I discovered I could even though it’s 2 weeks from my matchup I had to call it in. In 2010, I went for highest quality for the 3 days I had hope I would be competitive, then stopped caring. I’m terrible.
• foomafoo: It only happens when I don’t know both of the blogs and I go for site personality. If I know both, I go for the more consistent. It’s hard when I only know one ’cause I’m probably 70/30 on voting for the person I know, regardless of how much I like the one I don’t know. I should clarify that knowing isn’t enough, I should have at least spoken to him/her but yes after all, I hardly speak to anyone. I should note that I don’t follow everyone’s blog even though I follow them on Twitter so I can still vote fairly on that case.
• Reiseng: Well, I am not going to lie and claim that I lack bias when it comes to people I know, but for unknown blogs, I try to be fair.
• Rakuen: I don’t really have time to read a ton of blogs anymore. I’ll mostly vote in matchups with blogs I’m already interested in. I do intend to give the other blog in the match a chance to win me over. I’m also curious to see who survives to the final rounds.
• Inushinde: I click on three random posts on each site and see which writing style I like more. This isn’t foolproof, but it’s how I make my choice.
• Tofu: Voting for your own blog is nothing bad of course but for me, I disregard any type of relation I have with any site and vote fair *ahem* besides Metanorn and some aussie blogs (I’ve only found 2 in the aniblog tournament) ^^;
• Joojoobees: If I read a blog regularly, I think it is fair to say that I “would” read it, but I generally check the competitor anyway.

In summation, it was an amalgamation of content, personal relationship with respective anibloggers and readability (full text in spoiler). Personally, I think content engagement is the key and if a blog has something interesting for me, I will vote for it rather than the one which doesn’t. It skews to personal choice but that is how readership is build and community is made. What are your thoughts on this? I know not all our readers are bloggers and most are lurkers but you found out about the Tourney from us and have seen at least some of round 1-2 highlights. So, how did you go about your selection/voting?
