A Bloody Happy New Year of 2012!

Let’s welcome the New Year with a BLOODY BANG!

First off, HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY! Time sure flies when you are having fun and that is what happened in the year gone by. We are still in the process of remembering the good times with our Year Ender posts but hey, we gotta look forward and prepare for some more awesomeness. And what better way to welcome the New Year with some FRESH MEAT or as we call them: RAW MEAT! Just a few weeks ago, you saw our hiring post, which received phenomenal response as always and just as planned, we had some new faces before the new season starts to add some more spice to the mix. I’d like to thank everyone who applied and of course much adoration to the new members joining in.

I would have liked to mix this up with our 6 million post but as it’s just 100k away, I’d rather leave it for the 7 million hits later. Metanorn Team has definitely gotten big with time and we do have some ‘Specialists’ you don’t see in action on the writing side all the time. Like Will is purely our Tech Guru and works from the shadows to keep the site online 24/7, Ness works on many backend stuff along with graphics, Jrow edits our podcast and Junko’s our on-call artist. Multiple members contribute to our content planning and the many lists and previews you keep seeing. Overall, we have become an aniblogging factory of content.

Metanorn is not an episodic blog alone and we have worked quite hard to add in diversity of content with Editorials, Podcast and Meta Projects like Anime’s Next Top Model, different polls and artist features. The only request I have from our readers is feedback, good or bad. We will take it because that is how we will improve with time. There’s no successful communication one-way so, if you’ve been lurking around here for some time, drop us a line sometimes! Anyways, let me introduce our “Raw Meat” along with many a messages from the senpais:

INTRODUCING THE RAW MEAT

——————————————————————————————

Hello, my name is lvlln. I’ve been doing anime blogging on and off since mid-2009, including a one year stint over at Borderline Hikikomori. You could say that I’ve been an anime fan all my life, having grown up watching the likes of Dragon Ball and Voltron in the early 90s and just never stopping. Being a Korean American, I’ve dipped my toes into doing translations and subs; if you were a fan of Type-Moon in the last 5 years, you might have read some of my translations!

I’m not too particular about what type of anime I watch, as I like to focus on the execution of a concept rather than the concept itself, and that’s something that transcends genre. That said, I have a very hard time watching works that are too light and fluffy. Slice of life is okay, but there has to be conflict! I’m not one to take anime too seriously, so comedies tend to be right up my alley.

Like a lot of anime fans, I enjoy video games as well, and I’m also pretty into the Vocaloid culture as a fan (my 2 favorite artists now: wowaka and supercell). I also have a passion for running, ultimate Frisbee, and fitness in general. By day, I’m a number cruncher working in Boston, which helps to explain why I’m a big statistics, finance, and general science geek.

Hey there! I’m Hawthorne, a dedicated fanboy to many different outlets of my growing fascination with all things fantasy and an aspiring university student with too much time on my hands. I’m incredibly excited to be a part of the Metanorn Team and hopefully I’ll be able to both inform you and entertain you to the best of my ability. I’m relatively new to this, but my interest in anime far outweighs any feelings of anxiety I might have. I’m overly emotional and analytical at times, but what teenager isn’t?

I’ve been watching anime for a few years now (not including the occasional episodes of Pokemon and One Piece I’d watch as a kid), but my interest in manga goes farther back. I have a pretty diverse affection for genres, my favorites being comedy, fantasy, romance, horror, mecha, and music-related anime, but I can’t really say I dislike any other genre because I can enjoy almost anything. Any series that can appeal to my emotions is one that will quickly make its way to the top of my favorites. If it makes me laugh, or cry, or angry, or depressed, or just makes me think about something in a non-superficial way I’ll appreciate it.

When I’m not glued to my laptop, I’m out enjoying any of the plethora of other interests that fill the long gaps of unspent time here in a desolate suburbia. I love role-playing games and horror games, horror films, Japanese and American music, reading, writing, jogging with my adorable corgi, and I’m also an avid activist for plenty of different issues at my school and in my town. Thanks for having me!

Hello everyone! I’m Miyu, and I come from the tiny island of Singapore, also known as the Land of Eternally Terrible Weather. It’s easy to spot me – I’m probably the one you see singing Japanese songs obnoxiously while skipping down the street. xD I’ve been stalking Metanorn ever since I entered middle school, and 3 years later, I find myself here as part of the team! -tears of joy- ;_;

My interest for anime was sparked by singing mermaids in frilly dresses (Mermaid Melody Pitchi Pitchi Pitch LULZ) when I was in elementary school, and since then my weekly anime as become an irreplaceable part of my life. I enjoy fangirling over bishies with friends and fellow otaku. *w* I have a soft spot for sappy romance stories in animanga, earning me my nickname as a hopeless romantic. Anything historical romance-related will definitely send me drooling. ^A^

My love for anime has actually expanded into an illogical love for everything Japanese! I am currently taking Japanese as my 3rd language (1st and 2ndbeing English and Chinese respectively). My iPod is stuffed with J-pop – I’m a crazy VOCALOID  fan and can spend hours video hopping on Niconico/Youtube. I also write fanfiction and design blogskins to fuel my love for anime! My other passion lies in singing (as you probably guessed), and I aspire to be a writer/singer in the future.

In short, I’m a really awesome person. 😀 (Have I also mentioned that I can be incredibly narcissistic at times?) Nice to meet you all! ^^

MESSAGE FROM THE SENPAIS

—————————————————————————————

Wow! I can’t believe that it’s already a new year! I mean, it only feels like yesterday that it was summer! And now it’s already winter! Man, I wish it was summer already. But yeah, back to the point. I wonder if I have any New Years resolutions…. Make more money. Yep. That will do, that will do. But really, I think it’s to live just as well then the previous year. Work harder at certain stuff and stop procrastinating (like that will happen). I’m kind of looking forward to this new year. How about you? Well, Happy New Years all and hope you have a good one. I for one am going to parrrrtaaaayyyyyyyy more than once this week~!

For the Raw Meat… So, I guess you passed the horrific life threatening super duper hard test to get into this Meta team of unique individuals and misfits? Well, you may have made it in, but you still have to prove yourself worthy to me. I accept payme… err… I mean offerings in the form of paypal and you can ask Jrow for more details. Once I have received your humble offerings, I will give you a warmer welcome to Metanorn. This initiation is required of all new members who did not send me brib… greetings during the application process. So for now, welcome new mionions to Metanorn~! Work hard and make me that monehs yo~! Feel free to ask me any questions but first send me offerings and then I will reply anytime. XD Yoro~!^^/

Happy New Year, all! Hope you got to party hard and have fun on the Eve! For the New Blood: If you are reading this then it means you managed to survive the dark Metanorn dungeons and successfully avoided all of the deadly traps? Not to mention, solve all of our evil puzzles? You just have one final test that we saved it for last! And that is…. Alright, so I lied about that final test. But anyway I would like to give you all a huge shout of CONGRATULATIONS! I hope you all have yourself an amazing day after receiving the amazing news of joining our team. Welcome to the Metanorn family! The only thing I can say is let’s kick some ass together, so yeah Congratulations again to the new fresh blood.

With a new year comes new writers! 2012 not only marks the start of a new year, but the start of Miyu’s, lvlln’s and Hawthorne’s career here at Metanorn. Congratulations! You’re part of Metanorn’s massive, mafia-like family now. All that’s left is a blood oath, a large sum of money, and other things I can’t mention here. You’ll find out soon enough. But really, despite all the jokes about our “dungeon” and “contracts” and god knows what else, I think you’ll come to find that Metanorn is a pretty fun place to write for. At least, that’s how I see it. As your senpai, I’ll do whatever I can to make your job (and life overall) better, alright? Come to me if you need anything at all! I’m genuinely excited to see what kinds of posts you guys come up with~

Happy New Year! *kisses nearest Meta-girl on this list* I hope 2011 treated you well as it did for me, and if you need any starting point to knock off a bad habit or two, now’s a nice starting point. For anime in the year 2012, it already sounds pretty rocking! There’s some good shows in Winter, Spring is already blazing with the rest of Fate/Zero and a new Eureka seveN anime, and Gen Urobuchi is gonna be writing what could be another solid series in the Fall season. Sure, YuruYuri and Queen’s Blade are getting sequels, but anime is doing pretty well for itself, these days.

Metanorn just got another great collection of new blood (or… Raw Meat) with this Hawthorne, lvlln and Miyu group; The Meta-Class of 2012. They should bring a terrific dose of experience and personality on top of what we already got, and I’m looking forward to working with these boys & girl on tags and podding-casts and other great events here at Metanorn. Should be a fun 2012, what a great way to start by getting more teammates!

Happy new years Metanorn peeps and lurkers! Hopefully you’re all sober enough to read this clearly, but if not you can always read this during that hangover you’ll have. …I wish you luck with that. As for the new writers, ohohoho~ Welcome to Metanorn! First of all, congrats on making it! Things may be confusing at first, but you have a ton of helpful senpais (myself included) to throw your questions at. Feel free to ask me anything if you have questions~. Anyways, congrats again on making it and I hope to get along with you in the future! …Which hopefully serves as compensation for selling your soul to us. Though it’s not like you need it anyways.

Happy New Year, guys! Time to forget all the troubles and embarrassing events of last year by partying with some margaritas (or at least, that’s what I’ll be doing, heh)! I wish you all good luck in the coming year and with any endeavors you’ll be trying to accomplish ^^ I hope you’re all enjoying a nice break from work/school and eating yummy foods for the holidays. I of course extend this towards my new fellow writers ^^ Congrats you three~!! I promise it’ll be a fun time here at Metanorn with your senpais, the boss lady Kyokai, the wonderful commentors, and that awesome anime you’ll enjoy blogging. Personally, joining Meta has become (and continues to be) a great and helpful experience, so I hope the same happens to you. I can’t wait to read your future posts and get to know you better. Again, congratulations, and welcome~!

Wow, another year has come and gone. Seems like just yesterday I was marveling over the fact that 2010 was over. Now 2011 is over! Where does the time go, man? I’m definitely looking forward to this new year though! I’ve already made a massive list of new years resolutions too! I’d like to welcome the fresh meat that have joined Metanorn though. Miyu, Hawthorne and Lvlln, WELCOME TO METANORN! We’re seriously so glad to have you! I’m excited, that’s for sure. You guys are super awesome and I’m really looking forward to getting to know you all! Metanorn is a legitimately cool place to be, so I hope you guys have fun! You’re gonna rock it. As your senpai, I have faith. 😀 HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY!!!!

Welcome to Metanorn! I’m kind of bad when it comes to encouraging people or welcoming them, so forgive me if this paragraph is bad *fidget fidget*Urk I’m so embarrassed I want to crawl into a hole now. Let’s start again from the beginning. Welcome to Metanorn! Man, Metanorn team sure is growing in number! Such a good way to celebrate Christmas and New Year. New Year, new writers? Oh man, destiny is getting along well with Metanorn. Anyhow, I can’t wait to read their first posts since I’m pretty excited about it. I might be an eccchi (and bad) fellow Metanorn classmate here, but I’m pretty sure we’ll get along juuuusstt fine. If you ever need something, I’ll try my best to help you *take out a stack of yaoi manga*  No worries, so far nobody here has bit me yet, so I’m sure they won’t bite you either. Once more, Happy New Year guys! And enjoy your stay here.

——————————————————————–

Have an AWESOME NEW YEAR with Wintery fun. MUCH LOVE from the Metanorn Team.

All three new writers have more experience in anime than I do… D: SENPAIS!! YOROSHIKU ONEGAISHIMASU!!! *bows down*

I’ll definitely be looking forward to all three of your posts and just those intro’s themselves speak potential ;D Hmm.. I could definitely learn a lot considering I’m a new writer too over at Seki ^^ Good luck Hawthorn, Lvlln and Miyu!!

Also question! Lvlln… are you a male? ^^
Do you speak canto or mando Miyu? :3 I’m canto btw
Hawthorn, are you familiar with the AFL team Hawthorn in Australia? xD Sorry, I’m Australian so yeah…

    • Miyu says:

Hello Tofu!~ Kochira koso yoroshiku onegaishimasu ^A^
Hehe thank you! I tend to abuse emoticons a lot though. xD

I speak mando! (..though not very well, I think I’m actually better at Japanese than Chinese ;_;) I have lots of friends that are canto though and they speak so fast and fluently I’m like whoa. Cantonese words are so pretty *w* Nice to meet you!

      • Tofu says:

R-really? xD You’re the first person I know who actually says cantonese words are pretty 😛 AWESOME

It’s all goods, I abuse emoticons ALL THE TIME ^^

        • Miyu says:

They really are! Here in Singapore we use simplified Chinese and although it really is easier to write, some of its beauty is ~lost~ xD

          EMOTICONS (=3=)

          • Tofu says:

I can totally understand considering it’s not so traditional anymore xD Well mandarin isn’t my thing considering I tried learning it at a late age, didn’t work since I never learnt basics so now I stick to canto and english (and of course jap phrases from anime but that doesn’t count)

Also there was an incident with my use of mandarin which has made me extra careful with what I say ><" I'm sure the people I've told it too who reads this will know EXACTLY what happened…at China. OTL

    • Hawthorne says:

Thank you! It feels awesome to be welcomed by a fellow new blogger, I loved your coverage of Haganai btw. ;D

And ah, nonono, sports are not really my thing at all, Hawthorne is a reference to a book I fanboy all over called The Hunger Games. (:

      • Tofu says:

Oh? Thanks Hawthorne! ^^ I had heaps of fun blogging Haganai and considering my Top 10 is out there’s no use hiding it. It’s also my favourite of the year ;D Although I know HEAPS of people would disagree with this. Oh wells. LOLS

The Hunger Games… hmm.. never heard of it XD gomen

      • Gecko says:

        HUNGER GAMES!
        (sorry- I’m a big fan.)

    • lvlln says:

      Yes, I am male.

      • Tofu says:

ahahaha sorry if that came out weird Lvlln ^^; Anyways I hear you’re a Supercell fan ;D Far… I can’t believe Nagi isn’t part of Supercell now T__T They’ve replaced her with a different singer (the one who sings the OP for GC) but at least – I believe – she’s working for KEY now, what do you think?

        • lvlln says:

Well, Nagi’s always been independent, never a part of supercell. She collaborated with Maeda Jun, but I don’t think she’s a part of KEY either. She’s done singing for a bunch of other bands, too.

I do like her voice better than Koeda’s or Chelly’s, but I really like what supercell is doing, giving these young singers a chance to shine and become famous. After all, they’re following in Nagi’s footsteps as amateurs picked by supercell and put on the big stage. And now Nagi has a lot of work, collaborating with many different bands.

I’d love for her to come back to working with supercell eventually, perhaps a collaboration with all 3 singers. That would be awesome. I’m sure Nagi has a strong affinity for supercell because of how important that band was for her success.

          • Yvoon says:

Well, guess that explains what i had been asking. Guess that shows how much i know bout the extra stufff behind anime…

I feel like a small ignorant girl next to mighty knowledgeable Ivlln…>//<

          • Tofu says:

True true and a collaboration with all 3 singers would definitely be amazing so like in other words, Nagi’s just a stand-alone singer right? xD

I did like her collaboration with Maeda doing that song (forgot what it’s called) it was on ANN though. Then again no one can top Maeda’s music composition when it comes to piano

        • Yvoon says:

WHAT?! No wonder! I thought the voice sounded a bit different! No! Why??? I loved her voice! Thats why i loved supercell! ToT

  4. BlackBriar says:

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY! New year, fresh meat and the anticipation of being bombarded with First Impressions for the new season.

Lvlln: Glad to know there’s another that grew up with anime the same way as most of us, like watching Dragon Ball and Voltron in the early 90s. I’ve recently got into Type-Moon anime like watching Lunar Legend Tsukihime (Shingetsutan Tsukihime) and more recently Fate/Zero. So I look foward to anything you have up your sleeves.

Hawthorne: Out of the many genres of mangas out there, which would be considered your favorite? I love video games and role playing games are one of them. I basically would play anything that Square Enix and Ubisoft dishes out.

Miyu: Your stalking has finally paid off. LOL. And you’ve already earned a title for yourself? I take off my hat in respect. I’m sure a lot of us don’t mind a little narcissism. And good luck with learning Japanese as a third language. I want to learn Japanese myself.

    • Miyu says:

Happy new year! ^^ Yeah all that stalking and watching people while they slept has finally paid off… -evil grin-

Dawww thank you hehe. Japanese is a really beautiful language and learning it has its benefits!(ANIME WITHOUT SUBS! ..actually I’m not that good yet. ;_;) Yup! Who knows in the future we’ll be speaking to each other in fluent Japanese… >D In time, in time.

      • BlackBriar says:

Japanese really is a beautiful language despite a lot of words being used in a sentence whereas it would be easier to say in english. If I had a choice between Spanish and Japanese, I’d definitely take Japanese just because of the way it sounds. The island of Singapore, huh? There was an awesome anime convention over there. I wish I was there even if meant waiting for hours on end.

Weekly anime has become an irreplaceable part of any otaku’s life. I’d go crazy if I missed a single episode or if an anime I like goes on a 3 week hiatus (Shiki, Guilty Crown).

I hope you enjoy your time here at Metanorn with an army of otaku by your side and I look foward to your posts.

    • Hawthorne says:

Ah, I’d definitely say horror/psychological is my favorite genre of manga by far. My list is about 80% horror, 10% comedy/SoL, 5% bleach, and 5% romance and whatnot. Every couple weeks I pick out a new random horror manga and check it out, it’s great for finding hidden gems. (This week was Kamisama no Iutoori, which I strongly suggest to any other horror fans out there!)

And woo, a fellow Square Enix/Ubisoft fan. ;D
Somewhat unrelated to those, I just got Skyrim for Christmas, which I’ve been putting WAY too much time into. -_-

      • BlackBriar says:

I enjoy the psychologiacal genres and I’m recently getting into horror, so I’m taking it slow. But most of all, I’d go with any manga once there’s a good story behind it.

From Square Enix games, my favorites are the Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts series. From Ubisoft, it’s the Prince of Persia and Assassin’s Creed games. And from Naughty Dog, I’ve played the Jak and Daxter games and have yet to play the Uncharted ones.

When it comes to Japanese music, I haven’t declared a personal favorite yet since there’s so many bands but for english music, my top two favorites are Three Days Grace and Linkin Park.

        • Hawthorne says:

Ah, I agree. The story is (in most cases) one of the most important factors for me as well. Horror seems to be a mixed bag most of the time, either trying too hard to go for the gross-out or having too much random exposition. That’s just my opinion of course.

I’m a big FF fanboy, I really want to get my hands on type-0, but who knows when it will reach the US. Oh well. You have good taste though, I’ve played and enjoyed all those games except for Jak and Daxter. (y)

And ah, I know those bands, but I don’t listen to them much tbh. I’m actually into alternative stuff, uh, like Foster the People and the like, my taste in music is actually pretty lame. heh. I’m pretty new to Japanese music, if you have any suggestions I’d love to here them.

    • lvlln says:

Yes, the Tsukihime anime was my first exposure to Type-Moon. I watched it at a time when I was a little down on anime, not really big into it. But Tsukihime really hit me hard as a powerful, mature romance story, something I hadn’t seen enough of in anime.

That got me into the Type-Moon fandom. Joined Beast’s Lair, read the Tsukihime visual novel, did translation work for the Kagetsu Tohya patch and various doujin, read Kara no Kyoukai.

I’ve never been a big fan of the Fate series, though, which is unfortunate because that’s the franchise Type-Moon is pushing the hardest right now. Didn’t like the anime, never read the visual novel. But I have been liking Fate/Zero. Definitely my favorite anime of Fall 2011, and one of my top 5s this year.

      • BlackBriar says:

Yes, I loved the Tsukihime anime. Its strong points were the characters and romance story.

The part I loved the most was Arcueid patiently waiting for Shiki at the swingset followed by explaining what he did to her by cutting her in pieces. A detailed explaination with a smile.

My favorites are Arcueid and Ciel. If Arcueid wasn’t desperately craving Shiki’s blood halfway through the series, I would’ve found it hard to believe she was a vampire, much less a True Ancestor which is the strongest type of vampire that can go out in sunlight because I didn’t really see any fangs(check the title under my name and you’ll understand my concern about that part) LOL.

If you’re looking to understand the Fate series, then you’ve arrived at the right time. The first half of the prequel to Fate/Stay Night, Fate/Zero has just concluded and the second half won’t play untill April. So it’s a perfect opportunity to catch up.

What other Type-Moon anime is out there?

        • lvlln says:

There are the Kara no Kyoukai movies. I liked most of them alright. Thought 5 and 7 were particularly great. 5 was my favorite story in the novel by far.

Also, Carnival Phantasm OVA has just finished coming out, and it’s a gag comedy with characters and settings from Tsukihime and Fate Stay Night, mainly meant for fans.

  5. Amutofan123 says:

Whooo! New people! I’m looking forward to everyone’s posts! Also, YESSS!!!! A sappy romance fan!!!! 😀 I’m so happy!

    • Miyu says:

Oh yes anaaga, we’ll show them boys the power of fujoshis -eyes glinting-

  12. Karakuri says:

Once again, welcome to Metanorn lvlln (…how the hell do you pronounce that?), Hawthorne and Miyu!

    • Shey says:

It looks like an abbreviation of the word ‘leveling,’ but I could be mistaken.

      • lvlln says:

It isn’t, but that’s how most people seem to pronounce it in their head, which is fine with. There is a correct but non-intuitive pronunciation. If we ever talk in person, I can speak it out.

        • Miyu says:

Then we shall look forward to the next MetaVerse >D

          And thank you Kara! ♥

  13. Hoshi says:

    ~WHOOO welcome (again), guys!
I’ll be coming out of the dark depths of my tumblr dash & future school work to read your posts, and get to know you guys better.

Miyu-chan~~~~ I also love Mermaid melody, WIN for mermaids in dresses!! Did you watch Sea Story???

    • Miyu says:

      Thank you! 😀
Hurhur Mermaid Melody brings back many fond memories yes? I remember my favorite was Kanon hehe. Nope I didn’t watch Sea Story – is it good? O:

      • Kitty says:

0.o its about a Sea Miko and a Sky Miko witch a plot taken from the little mermaid. It was rather awesome!

  17. Gecko says:

Hello new people! Good luck- I’m looking forward to your blogging.
lvlln: how do you pronounce lvlln? I’m going to have trouble with it forever if I don’t know. /such a random question./

Happy new year Metateam and to fellow commentors/followers!!

2011 marks the first full year since I have followed Metanorn and I have met the most wonderful and wierd people here. It is definitely a community you would want to belong to if ur a fan of any kind of animanga.

    I LOVE YOU GUYS!! XD

And that includes the fresh meat~

@Ivlln: man, you already sound intimidating just from all the things you have done. I bow down to you. Looking forward to your posts! Tho maybe only some at certain times due some constraints i am under with study and all right now.

@Miyu: yes! Another romanticist! Booyah! Let us skip down the street throwing flowers in the air. Or we can cramp ourselves in a dark room and fangirl~ (or bitch about bitches trying to get in the way of our lovely couples…)

@Hawthorne: horror is definitely no my thing…i dread the screencaps you will use for horror anime …orz

If only there were more horror(ish) anime out there to watch. I’ll just have to stick to manga for now. >D

      Happy new year!

    • Miyu says:

Thank you!! I LAV YOU TOO xD
That sounds like a greeeeat idea, skipping down the street and bitching and all (bitches better watch out >D) ROMANTICISTS UNITEEE.
Definitely looking forward to fangirling with you!!

You flatter me! I’m not all that accomplished, at least in the world of anime fandom. I do like to think that I’ve done pretty well with the things I’ve done; hey, if you want to do something well, you have to have some confidence in yourself, right? I look forward to making my contributions here and engaging in dialogue with you and everyone else here!

    Ummm quick question:

Anyone know how to modify setting on wordpress so that u only get subcriptions for replies to your comment not new comments in general?

Cause i’m getting a LOT of emails and its really filling up my inbox. Appreciate it guys~

    • Tofu says:

Meta would have to modify the subcriptions to suit that need but as of the two options we readers have you can’t have that LOLS soz yvoon ;D Well then again I could be wrong.
