Unboxing My Smexy Machine

Like Date would say, “You see?” :3

Welcome to Metanorn’s first and most awkward gadget review. Well, I’ve been going on and on about my new smexy machine on twitter and while posting teasers, I’ve also been discussing incessantly about it. Being one of my first online videos, I did this totally offhand and without much preparation so apologies for rambling on. Not to mention, lots of jerking around in my drawing room, but hey, one pair of hands!

Before you ask me which Mac is this, let me tell you quite happily that this is the 15-inch, 2.2GHz quad core, Intel Core i7 beauty with 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD with AMD Radeon 512MB dedicated graphics card. This costs around $1800~2500 (depending on which specs you go for). Mine cost me around $2100 minus the accessories that I bought. After playing around with it, things that are ‘good to have’ includes, anti-glare screen (though, I didn’t find much difference in the original version), extra HDD/RAM (depends upon your need) and a sleeve/cover (I’ve ordered this but at the last minute, I went ahead with the federale). For ‘nice to have’ mouse (magic mouse looks good but along with the whole rechargeable thing and extra cost, the wire version seemed feasible to me), IR based remote for media play (if you’d like to impress clients with awesome graphics/media on a touch of a remote), USB hub port (I got Targus’s extra 4 ports, always handy), and of course, earphones for your listening pleasure.

If you are new to mac, the OS X Lion might be a new experience but it’s not that hard getting used to. If you are feeling too jittery just get Parallel OS or VM Fusion installed to run Windows 7 (it helps to keep using your external HDD without any formatting). Mosey over the new swipes and gesture features on the track pad, and learn how to right-click with the command key. I’m still learning but it’s going more smoothly than I thought. I guess, there’s a short line between anibloggers and gadget nerds because when you have the potential to obsess about one hobby, you are not too far away from imbibing another one, just the same. It’s literally like how many otakus love gaming, while some love to draw and so and so forth.

I’ll keep this short and officially, this is my first post from my smexy Mac and it’s a wondrous machine. Let me tell you, words just flow and I write like I’m on some wonderful ride because the keys are so soft and ergonomic. Though, I think this is enough in praising Apple for this beauty that they haven’t upgraded much since last two years except for specs. At least, the VGA camera is out. I’ll be getting a lot more done that I have the new photoshop installed and yeah, iMovie is not that bad either. Expect some stuff pretty soon. Ja ne~

Hope you enjoyed my first foray in video~

Congratulations! Have fun with the new machine. Sometimes the right tool can make the difference between getting work done and really being productive. I know I have used different kinds of computers in the past, and when I have to downgrade to a Windows work machine, I feel like I am going from really getting stuff done, to slogging through all of the crap I have to do. Hopefully you will be happily buzzing along with your new MacBook!

You are so right and I’m kinda happy getting an expert’s view. The right machine definitely makes the difference and I’ll be buzzing about in no time!

Nice machine… Of course, it doesn’t amaze me too much these days as I have been using Macbook Pros since 2006 and have been more productive compared to the low quality Dell computers I used in the past.

Also, you can use Bootcamp to run Windows if you need to need to play intensive games. Otherwise, a visual machine like VMWare Fusion 3 is good enough for running a few Windows applications.

Anyways, have fun with your new laptop. 🙂

    • Kyokai says:

I used Dell/HP before this because I always got one from office and never really thought of buying one personally except for upgrading my home PC.

Thanks for hte tip about Bootcamp, have installed it and will be gaming like anything whenever I get time. Arkham city/ Portal 2, here I come~ ^^

Whoaaaa big boss Kyokai rocking the new tech toys! Wooo Hoooo! I want a laptop but I hardly go anywhere, it would be awesome to have one so I could record my podcast stuff and what not xDD

Have fun with it! Enjoy hours and hours of gaming <3

    • Kyokai says:

I had researched so extensively for this machine that when I got it I was totally rocking the lingo and what not. And yes, I may be lost to you all for a bit if I get into heavy gaming. xD

  4. Jrow says:

Welcome to Mac World, Kyo! 🙂

Have you gotten all your animu stuff yet? I also recommend getting Soundflower + LineIn; that’s what I use to record podcasts.

    • Kyokai says:

      Yeahhh! *fistbump*

It’s just not a machine, is it? xD And yeah, I got both of these and will be using it coming next month.

    IT’S SO BEAUTIFUL lucky Kyokai-san. Now I want a laptop /:

  6. Overcooled says:

…and then Overcooled spent more time looking at the T&B fanart than the video.

But seriously, that’s a beautiful piece of equipment you got there. I’m glad you like it so much :3

    • Kyokai says:

In your case, I already knew it! xD Love the machine to pieces already.

But there’s a pun with the picture as I treat Kotetsu as Lion (from Lion OS) coming out of the box as in my MBP unboxing. :3

  7. Toori-chan says:

Gratz for getting a new toy. That’s one good machine yoou have there. I’m still saving moni to customize my own vid-editing machine…

    • Kyokai says:

Thank you! It has been worth it. Good luck with saving and then sweet glory of getting the machine you want. :3

  8. Kitty says:

Congrats!!! and I love the T&B photo, to bad it wasn’t actually Kotetsu out of the box, but a Mac Pro is a good second XD

  9. Alynn says:

Aww nice! I honestly need to get my own soon. The laptop I use now is way too old.

  10. anaaga says:

    Not jealous. No, really.

  11. Ness says:

Like Jrow said, welcome to the world of Mac. XD It’s not the same when you go back to other PCs. I keep trying to hit the command button on my laptop<_<; Yeah, once you get used to all the awesome shortcuts on Mac, things will be even cooler.

  12. Namika says:

    *0* Omedettooooooo~
Make a GOOD use of it :3
Oh I wonder how much bishie goodies you will hide from us in that hard drive ))))

  13. Yippy says:

Congrats on getting an awesome (or so I heard) product. You could have used a stand/placed it on a flat surface to support the camera though, it would’ve made the video angles a tad stable.

  14. Eri says:

Now we have the same Photoshop, yayyyz!

  15. BlackBriar says:

Sweet new toy, Kyo. Now I’m envious and more motivated to get a new laptop. Mine’s nearing three years and is still using Windows Vista. Damn, I need to upgrade and quick. Gonna start saving money right now. The world of technology is a beast.
