Blood-C – 08

So I heard you liked random beams of light…

Thanks to all day classes, I totally feel like I’m posting this late. Only I’m not. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because I have less free time on my hands. …Or maybe it’s the amount of time I wasted trying to find an uncensored version of this without any luck. I should really know better at this point.

So back to Tokizane coming across Saya in a pool of blood with some cut up samurai thing in front of her.  Where normal people would be freaking out, Tokizane just asks if the pool of blood is her own and hugs her relieved when she says it isn’t (he also says he’s glad she wasn’t hurt so either he’s ignoring the gaping hole on her back completely or is politely avoiding it because he doesn’t want to bring up the fact that she isn’t wearing a bra). After they stand up, he takes her hand and they kind of just… leave. Saya also totally just left her sword lying there on the ground.

I AM COMPLETELY OKAY WITH THIS.

HOWEVER, the next scene she magically has it again (Consistency? LOL what is that?) and she washes off the blood with a handkerchief further up the river. Tokizane asks what the samurai thing was and why she’s carrying a katana with her. Saya tries to avoid the subject saying that she doesn’t want him involved, but Tokizane says he’s concerned for her. However Saya is as dumb as a brick when it comes to people liking her and Tokizane has to straight out tell her that she’s special to him. Saya makes him promise that he won’t tell anyone before she explains.

Meanwhile, Fumito is in his cafe place stroking a birdcage that I swear wasn’t there before. Saya’s father comes in and Fumito says that Saya ate there before she went to school. The rest of the conversation is just Fumito talking about Saya’s concern for her father and Tadayoshi going “Is that so?”. Finally Fumito goes to make some food.

Fumito uses childhood friend pose on Tadayoshi! It’s not very effective…

So Saya tells Tokizane all about the Elder Bairns and how they killed everyone. She gets sad about everyone dying and has a headache again after talking about her promise so Tokizane hugs her, but Saya STILL doesn’t get why.  He also says the he believes her because he saw the monster himself, but Saya strongly denies the fact that it’s a monster and instead says to call them Elder Bairns. Tokizane points out how odd that distinction is, but Saya doesn’t seem to think anything is wrong.

Finally, Tokizane realizes that a single handkerchief isn’t going to clean all that blood, so he insists on walking her home. Saya tells Tokizane how kind he is and he says that only she needs to know about his kindness. She doesn’t get it (*headdesk*). He also tells her to come to him is anything is bothering her because he wants to know all about her.

Saya goes home only to find her father laying on the floor unconscious. He wakes up and says that he was just dizzy. Saya freaks out until Tadayoshi says that he’s okay enough times to make her calm down. She goes to say that if anything happened to him, she would do something, but stops her sentence because she doesn’t know what she would do. He just places a hand on her head.

So Saya has a bath and there’s at least a solid three minutes of conveniently censored fanservice plus her singing. Then Watainu shows up. Saya doesn’t seem to care though.

He’s climbin’ in yo windows…

The two have a conversation about how fast Saya’s body heals because her wounds from before have almost all healed. Watainu also asks Saya if she remembers who she made the promise with and when she says no, he asks what would happen if she broke the promise. Cue headache and flashback to the convo with the narrator.

The narrator talks more about the experiment and how the winner and loser will be determined. He goes on to what the victor will win and how the loser will be punished. During this Saya is in handcuffs for some reason and he asks what she wants if she wins/what would hurt her the most if she loses.

Back to reality, Saya almost faints and Watainu states that something has almost worn off. He comments that IT (whatever ‘it’ is) should almost be over now before leaving because Saya’s father came to see if she was okay.

After that, Saya continues on with her normal life without interruptions until 3 days later when the school says it’s going to reopen. Her father asks I fighting the Bairns alone is painful, but Saya says that she’s trying her best and blah, blah, etc. Tadayoshi doesn’t really react until Saya says that she’ll be like her mother and defeat them. After that he just tells her to continue defeating them.

Saya takes her sword and goes to school, where she meets Yuka in the hallways. They talk about how everyone is down because Nono, Nene AND a policeman have gone missing and Itsuki finally makes an appearance again. Yuka finally notices Saya’s sword and asks her about it, but before she can make up and excuse, people all start rushing to the window.

When Saya looks outside, there’s a spider Bairn and when it opens its eyes, it goes straight for Saya. Instead of jumping out the window or something and preventing causalities, Saya tells everyone to get down and the guy who looks out the window to see what’s going on gets killed. Then more people die. And then even more people die. Death. Censoring. Blood. Gore. Censoring. More death. You get the picture.

This is why we can’t have nice things.

Finally, Saya does something and tells Itsuki to stay back. Drawing her sword, she proclaims that no one else will die because she’ll protect everyone. The episode ends with her running towards the Bairn.

End Thoughts: First half of the episode: SayaxTokizane. Awesome. Second half of the episode minus the last ten or so minutes: Concern over father and Watainu. Still awesome. Last ten or so minutes: SAYA. DO SOMETHING. ANYTHING. Do I even need to mention the censoring? More then half her class died before she bothered unsheathing her sword. I realize that this could have been because she wanted to keep her ‘secret identity’ or whatever hidden, but COME ON. She didn’t even really react when people started dying, it was only when it turned to face her was she like “lol k, I guess I should fight or something now”. I guess if it’s not twins or someone who actually has a name in this series, she just doesn’t care who dies.

On another note, whoa. Tokizane and Saya. If I didn’t ship them before, I totally ship them now. Man that was cute. I’m not surprised that he didn’t know anything (either that or he’s lying, but I’d like to think that he’s not) because all the suspicion has been shifted onto the birdcage rapist Fumito, Tadayoshi and Kanako. It’s too bad that Saya’s oblivious, or else we might have seen some relationship development for once. … Speaking of Tadayoshi, either Fumito is poisoning him (he did eat there right before collapsing), his illness or whatever is caused by Saya losing the bet, or something else that I haven’t thought of yet. I kind of want to blame old age too, but I don’t think that’s dramatic enough for CLAMP.

Oh yeah, I checked the opening (I was too lazy to go back to previous episodes) but the birdcage isn’t in that corner. You guys can go and check and prove me wrong if you want, but in my mind, they just threw in the cage there for symbolism or something because Fumito wants to lock up Saya in a cage or some creepy shit like that. Saya’s whole “Elder Bairns aren’t monsters” thing makes me even more inclined to say that she was originally with them, but I still don’t know where the covenant fits in to all this. Or the feeding. Judging from what Watainu said, whatever is going on with Saya will be revealed soon thanks to whatever is wrong with her wears off. I wonder though. Technically Saya already broke her promise because she’s already failed to protect everyone. A LOT of people have died. Maybe ‘everyone’ refers to a small group of people or something? Or maybe if Saya fails to protect them all she loses and if at least one person survives, she wins?

Preview: Lol well from the preview, it looks like Saya won’t be keeping her word about not letting anyone else die. It’s also censored for your viewing pleasure.

SAYA, YOU’RE SO SLOW, SH*T GIRL. That annoyed me so bad. Want to know why your friends keep dying? YOU HAVE THE REACTION TIME OF A SLOWPOKE.

Also, as much as I like this new pairing, CLAMPS character development is painful and I have no clue where these feelings magically appeared from. For the love of everything, I hope there’s some background reasoning for this.

Also, I think cafe guy is the bad guy. Mostly because he’s starting to grind my nerves, and he obviously knows what the deal is.

BUT, favourite point of the whole episode: Saya correcting ‘Monsters’ as Elder Bairns. The Blood + story line was all about Saya trying to find her place among humans, even though she was a crazy vampire thing. I assume there’s a similar plot point in Blood-C, where Saya half realises she’s a ‘Elder Bairn’ and was subconsciously offended when Tokizane called her a monster.

Ahahaha it was really painful to watch this episode.

As for the Tozizane’s feelings, yeah it was pretty sudden. But then again, everyone in this town seems to love Saya for no reason so I think either everyone is like that because it’s a short series, or it has to do with the whole experiment going on.

Oh I never thought of it that way. Then this might be the reverse. Though I think that if that’s the case then Saya was more offended that he called her other Bairn friends monsters instead. She seems the type defend others before herself.

  2. Carla says:

I don’t know what I hate the most: her slow brain, or her hair…
That combo is too much for me…
Gosh, I don’t like her at all, I think that I can kill her with a slingshot.

    • Karakuri says:

Ahahaha I find her hair more annoying. I think she might be slow for some plot-related reason.

I like Saya as a character and all but she’s not very realistic…

  3. Kitty says:

    Because only Saya could get a hot boyfriend and smile while covered in blood -_-;

Loved the bath scene! <—- best part of the episode!

    • Karakuri says:

Ahahaha everyone loves Saya. She’s probably so used to being covered in blood by now that she doesn’t notice anymore.

As for the bath scene, I laughed when the dog’s tail started wagging and Saya had no reaction whatsoever.

  4. Meazles says:

can this series go any slowwwwweeeerrr? Seriously, Saya is like the slowest most dense person in the history of anime characters. God forbid she lets any more people die before she realizes that the promise she wished to keep has already gone down the drain. A-plus for the TokizanexSaya pairing, however, the girl needs a wake up call If she doesn’t see all the men fawning over her.

Best thing out of the whole episode was the Monsters/Elder Bairns correction. Saya actually shows intellect for like a split second.

    • Karakuri says:

I think Saya’s the only slow thing about this show at the moment. The plot seems to be steadily progressing. The pairing was a nice add in for this episode, but I don’t think Saya will realize until he either dies a horrible death (in which case, she might actually do something about her slowness) or he straight out tells her that he likes her. When Kanako did that, at least she got a reaction.

  5. Joojoobees says:

I’m less concerned that the cage wasn’t there previously, and more that he was stroking an empty birdcage. That dude is messed up.

Also, Tadayoshi told Fumito he didn’t want coffee, so Fumito says, “then you want something else”. The next time we see Tadayoshi he is passed out with blood dribbling out of his mouth. I know Saya says she must have gotten it on him, but I don’t think that is what happened.

    • Karakuri says:

Ahahahaha I was concerned because normally I notice if things like that are in the background or not. It is pretty creepy that he was stroking it though.

Oh yeah, you bring up a good point. Never thought about that before. That would be interesting because either he coughed it up, or he was eating blood itself. Either way, Fumito’s cooking is still suspicious.

  6. Joojoobees says:

I went back and checked episode 1, and the bird cage is there.

  7. amado says:

I think that fumito would either be the unlikely ally or is the big bad. unlike most of you guys, while im suspicious of him, I dont really think badly of the guy.
and the more I see it, the more I realize that saya got reprogrammed or something. and they clearly didnt do it properly as she doesnt understand feelings, doesnt get embarassed, makes her slip for no reason, has no idea what to do when her “father” dies and other stuff.

    • Karakuri says:

Hmmm, I keep switching my opinion on whether or not he’s an antagonist based on what happened in the episode. After this episode with Tadayoshi collapsed right after he eats at the cafe, I’m more inclined to say he’s an antagonist. But you’re right. This whole casting suspicion thing on him could just be building up for a great plot twist later where he turns out to be an unlikely ally.

That’s another good point too. I think you’re right, because that would be a great explanation to her extremely unrealistic behavior when everyone else seems to act normally.

  8. BK_201 says:

From from the comments, I think I did the right thing about dropping the series after episode 2.

    • Karakuri says:

Oh, you dropped it? I find that it’s waaay more bearable to watch now than it was in the beginning.

Saya being dense and failing to save people is better than watching her do boring slice of life things.

  9. Samantha Zan says:

Well I lost my bet about Tokizane knowning anything last week lol.

Well, I did ship Saya and Tokizane before, but now its like “CUTE MOMENT. SHIP. DONE.” XD. I think the dialogue in that scene was a little bit too chessy for my taste, but it was still pretty cute none the less. However, it kind of worries me that Saya said that she doesn’t think the Elder Bairns were actually monsters. It kind makes me think she is one. Or something close to that at least

Back to the school scene, wow, didn’t expect an Elder Bairn to show up there. It almost seems where ever Saya goes they just follow her around. But Saya is STILL not saving enough people as she should be. I don’t know if she’s just careless or has a slow reaction, but after like 20 deaths happening going to school, you’d think she would keep up her guard. Well, at least she saved her two other friends in the classroom in there though. Maybe they might help the plot move. Afterall, when the mess is over and done with she probably needs to tell who she really is after that massacre.

But anyone else during that whole school scene wondered why the TEACHER didn’t show up? 0.o. It seems to wierd for her not to be there when her class is getting killed. But then again after all, all the adults are actingwwierd overall. With Fumito and his roofy food and Saya’s dad not explaining anything. This episode almost ramped up the suspision with all three characters.

    • Karakuri says:

Awww ahaha next time~! At least you didn’t bet anything important on it. XD

Yeah, it was cute and sudden. I’m still supporting them though(mostly because the romance aspect in everything else I’m watching is pretty much nonexistent)! I was pretty surprised when she made that distinction. Seriously, I was just throwing random theories up in the air when I said that she might be on the Bairn’s side last episode. I might actually be right about something for once.

Lol yeah, assuming anyone survives, Saya has a lot of explaining to do. …Actually, having her whole class go ‘missing’ minus her and Tokizane (because he’s not in the classroom THANK GOD.)might raise some suspicion against her. I’m just going to assume that no one notices the classroom of slaughtered teenagers just like every other death this show has had thus far.

Well, Kanako has been late to class before since she’s all laid back. I assume Saya arrived and all of this happened before school started, so the teacher might not even be there yet. Though when she does arrive, she’s in for a surprise. Yeah all three of them are suspicious, but having Tadayoshi have a random illness kind of makes me think he’s less of an antagonist for keeping secrets from Saya. They might have done it just to make him less suspicious, but it certainly worked on me. Either way, I’m sure he knows something important though…

  10. anaaga says:

Fumito cooked raw steak and the old man fainted because he can’t take the amount of blood there. Done.

    And lol saya
*stare* *friends got killed* *stare* *half of the class population is finished* *oh right, I got a sword [unsheathe the sword]*

    • Karakuri says:

Silly anaaga. You can’t cook raw steak. If you cook it, it’s not raw anymore~!

Ahahaha I wish your statement wasn’t accurate, but sadly, it is XD.

  11. Foshizzel says:

SAYA! I will forgive you for letting your friends get murdered and eaten because you gave some fan service…well not really but you tried your best.

LOL Cafe guy poisoned Saya’s daddy! Or something, I wonder what that blood was from maybe he killed the creepy cafe guy…hmmm…or had some bad bbq? I was waiting for him to slap Saya for “Just like mom” comment LOL He probably was like…Right….shes an idiot….

Giant spider boss! Those poor students….I would have ran out of that class if I saw that freaky monster….

    • Karakuri says:

      Ahaha cursing convenient censoring?

As great of a plot twist having Saya’s father kill Fumito would be, I doubt she would take it very well XD. He certainly reacted to her statement about her mother. Though I wish he had pointed out that her mother died in the middle of fighting when Saya said that she would protect people just like her mother did. Assuming her mother is actually a real person.

Yeah, I would have GTFO if I saw that thing from the window. Ahahaha at least you would have survived.

  12. Kyokai says:

    I like Tokinaze x Saya but damn, this girl makes me so angry. Actually, scratch that, this series makes me so angry; it’s almost pointless in case of plot. Where’s the purpose mannnnnnnnnn, why Saya has to fight all this shit and what kind of a father (he’s not her real for sure) and friends she has? I should have dropped this when I had the chance. ;3;

    • Karakuri says:

Hang in there Kyo! I’m sure there’s a perfectly reasonable explanation to why there is no plot. ….. maybe. Yeah, I don’t know. I was expecting something crazy complicated because this is CLAMP but there’s been nothing so far.

  13. Karuki says:

    You are all STUPID!!
