Tiger & Bunny 10-11

The hostage? the entire city.

You’ll have to forgive me for the two-in-one post this time around. I got incredibly caught up in E3 and didn’t get a chance to blog good old Taigs and Buns before the next episode would air. School doesn’t really help matters, nor does expending so much energy at the dojo that I accidentally  fall asleep tightly hugging a textbook. But now that I’m here and ready to roll, it’s T&B time!

Kotetsu is forced to take a paid vacation to avoid making the company look like slave-drivers, and he uses the time to buy his daughter a stuffed animal and meet up with her. The other heroes seem to be taking it easy and having fun with friends, except for the Forever Alone Ivan and the studious Barnaby (Is it bad I find him sexier now that I know he’s a hard-worker? Unf). Sadly, the bridge EXPLODES before he can get there and he has to cancel again.

Kotetsu is forced to work during his vacation since he’s right there and Barnaby continues on his way to the prison to see the man who killed his parents. He’s horribly outnumbered by a bunch of tanks that are piloted by…stuffed animals? The other heroes have to leave Kotetsu alone to deal with them to go to two other areas that are suddenly attacked by the terrorists.

Everyone is on their toes trying to keep the citizens safe, either holding up a shield constantly to deflect bullets or trying to stop a car from falling off the bridge. They almost stop the show, but Barnaby’s adoptive father continues airing it. Barnaby sees his lover being assaulted by bullets with his powers all run out, so he decides to go back and save him. Not even a well-placed insult can erase Bunny’s bridal-style save. AWWWW.

Super-powered bromance saves the day

Just as the two get into the swing of things, the heads of all the bears pop off and spew out red business cards. The cards all have the Ouroboros insignia on them, which is enough to rattle Barnaby alone. Pair that with a hi-jacked broadcast asking to release their leader from prison or they’ll destroy the city, and you’ve got a real shocker. Their leader is none other than the one who killed Barnaby’s parents!

Someone even MORE garish than me? THEY MUST BE STOPPED.

Well, this works out nicely since I have 2 episodes from the same arc in one post. Continuing from the terrorist threat last week, episode 11 revolves around how they actually deal with said “give us Jake or everyone dies” threat. The heroes can only sit and wait until they’re called to save civilians, while the higher-ups try to figure out what would be the best course of action.

Barnaby is understandably restless, even with Kotetsu calming him down every minute or so. Running off of Barnaby’s almost palpable desire to get out there and kill the whole lot of Ouroboros , Kotetsu runs off against orders to the boardroom meeting the mayor is having. He yells at them with Barnaby helpfully filling in words he forgets, but before they can really make a decision, a “negotiator” from Ouroboros arrives. He holds a random guard at gunpoint and demands they make a decision immediately or else they will blow more shit up.

Poor Mr. Negotiator isn’t a NEXT, so he’s easily beat up by the likes of Kotetsu and Barnaby. From there, Origami Cyclone shapeshifts into his body and infiltrates Ouroboros. On the flip side, this also means they had to release Jake to avoid, you know, the whole city-wide annihilation thing. Everyone is just secretly hoping Ivan can find out how those machines work and shut them all off.

Calm down, Hans. It’s just Pepsi NEXT, the drink of choice for heroes! (trademark)

Everything is going smoothly, and the terrorists should be calling off their attack by now..except they don’t. Jake decides to keep the city hostage. The only defense they have right now is to show Barnaby’s sob story to the public on Hero TV, in hopes that his angsty past will give the citizens hope. Let’s hope so, because things do not look very good for Ivan who is potentially seconds away from a hobo-induced death.

Public Announcement: Barnaby is gay. STATE OF EMERGENCY IS IN EFFECT.

Who just ate your bag of donuts? THIS guy~

My body is ready

“Ouroboros: Terrorists and part-time tattoo artists” Oooh, let’s go get a tattoo sometime!

End Thoughts: Somewhere along the line, Tiger & Bunny decided it didn’t want to be just an amusing comedy with superheroes thrown in. Somewhere they decided that they needed a suspenseful, impacting plot that would span across several episodes and really show off what these characters can do. I had initially pegged a lot of the characters as flat with only one aspect to their personality, but Tiger & Bunny has been surprisingly consistent at building characters up. Paolin still wears her hairclip, Barnaby is gradually forming a bromance with Kotetsu at just the right speed, Ivan is actually DOING THINGS. This show has gone far above my expectations~

Obligatory bromance paragraph time. I was relieved Barnaby didn’t try to suspect Kotetsu of the murder, whew! On the contrary, Barnaby put aside going to the prison to see the man he’s been searching his entire life for just to save Kotetsu’s sorry ass. Shh, don’t tell me it was for points and for the company to look better, it was LOVE, dammit! Their bickering has all but lost the hostile edge and is more of just a habit to appear uncaring. I just love the dynamics between these two. Kotetsu spent the entirety of episode 11 consoling Barnaby (and quite effectively at that) which was, to put it simply “kyaa~!” All you need to do to make a yaoi fangirl happy is to have a man rest their arm on another man.

I’m adoring the current arc. I was dying to know how Origami Cyclone would fare as the spy, and that cliffhanger didn’t make things any easier to handle! Ahhh, the tension! The designs of the villains are a bit…much…I will admit (MORE TATTOOS! WE NEED MORE TATTOOS!) but I can’t complain when they have the entire city under their shoe. Seeing as this is 24 episodes, they might not even catch these guys yet. Things look bad, but I think Yuri might step in eventually and help capture the baddies. He may hate the heroes, but he did NOT look pleased at Ouroboros’ little stunt.

Preview: Next week’s Taigs & Buns has what seems to be a direct face off with Jake. Go Kotetsu and Barnaby! The other heroes are doing their part as well, but who knows how this will turn out?

My bad hair will destroy the fabulousness of this city ONCE AND FOR ALL!

Cooled, your comments under the pictures are killing me. My roommates were talking bout serious stuff and I tried not to laugh, ending with a DERP face.

Anyway, TIGER AND BUNNY IS SO AWESOME. WHY SO FEW PPL WATCH THIS.

    • Overcooled says:

Hearing that my captions actually make people laugh makes me giddy. *happy tears*

I know, it seems like it’s a bit underappreciated. At least the fanartists love it!

  2. Metalsnakezero says:

    Man, I hope Ivan will be ok in the end but man -_-;

  3. Foshizzel says:

Only saw episode 10 but planning to watch 11 tonight!

Epi10- Great stuff and finally the bad guys make their big move! Awesome development so far, guess the heroes will have to work even harder.

Are you excited? Tiger and bunny got bumped to 25 episodes! Woooooooo! or was it 24? I forget ahahah

    • Foshizzel says:

Oh man episode 11! Now it feels like a Justice league type of show now! Now to see if the baddies can build their evil army up.

  4. Junko says:

For the love of me if there is no offical yaoi spin off of this I will kill something.

More importantly, I continue to love this show, and it is getting better, bit by bit. Although, if Origami Cyclone (that name cracks me up, love it) doesn’t get out alive I will hurt things.

    • Overcooled says:

It’s so canon it HURTS. Gainax must be deliberately doing this to kill us all from “so close but not quite” yaoi scenes.

I will join you in the hurting of things if Origami Cyclone dies D:<

  5. Kencana says:

Poor Bunny. The man he’s been chasing for 20 years got away like this. No wonder he’s bit unstable.

    • Overcooled says:

I know, he was really rattled the entire time. Who would’ve thought I would actually feel sorry for the guy who started off as the token asshole character?

  6. Zabobinator says:

Dude, I am SO GLAD I started this show. I watched all 11 episode yesterday and I LOVE IT SO MUCH. I shall always take your advice OC-senpai. xD

I’m really glad that T&B has developed an actual plot because, at the start, it seemed kind of Level E-ish in that it was just a bunch of short little stories. That’s not necessarily bad per-say, but it was still awesome to see a legit (and interesting!) plot.

I feel bad for Bunny, but I think that he’s kind of annoying sometimes. Also, I LOVE TIGER. xD

    • Overcooled says:

Haha, thanks for watching it as per my request. I’m glad T&B could make your day brighter XD Now is a good a time as any to get into it since it’s evolved from the oneshots into HOLY CRAP AWESOME.

  7. Alynn says:

Ewww I hate Jake’s style seriouslyyy. Go back to LOOKING LIKE A HOBO.

Aww I love Ivan. YOU CAN DO IT. I AM ROOTING FOR YOUUU.

    • Overcooled says:

I NEED TO USE AS MANY CLASHING COLOURS AS POSSIBLE ON MY FACE. YES, THAT WILL BE A GOOD STYLE. ALSO, LIPSTICK. I would appreciate it if he went back to being a hobo too.

  8. Mad Chemist says:

Dang, I’m surprised how clever Jake ended up being from what we know of him and that horrible, horrible look. I was expecting him to perform some crazy acts of violence when he learned he had hostages, not keep the city under his thumb so he could make the higher ups do what he wanted. And while I don’t think he’s going to kill Origami yet, since Jake did mention wanting to use him for some purpose, I don’t think things are looking good for Ivan at all.

I can’t help but wonder where this arc is going to go from here. There’s been a lot of buildup to the next episode and the fight with Jake, but the heroes also need to find another way to deal with the army of Mad Bears now that Ivan’s in hot water. Maybe Lunatic will lend a hand when he’s off the clock, like you said he’s clearly no fan of Ouroboros, but it would probably be hard for him to sneak out of the meeting he’s in with the city in such a state of crisis.

    • Overcooled says:

I was surprised too. I thought he’d be some reckless lunatic, but he’s pretty smart about how he runs things. Origami might be used as another hostage, or forced to change his form into…someone else. Maybe Jake to act as a decoy. Whatever the case, I think you’re right about him not kicking the bucket just yet.

I don’t know how the heroes can make a move without the mechs demolishing the city, so unless Origami somehow finds out a way to stop them or the heroes find a way to corner the bear-controlling chick…I don’t know how they’d do it. :/ I want to say Lunatic’s gonna help too, but he’s stuck in the meeting. Maybe he’ll manage to come up with some lame excuse and ditch them XD

  9. Kyokai says:

Awww, such cutie pies! Tiger and Bunny has surely grown on me. The princess lift in episode 10 was so priceless. I spurted out OJ just because of it!

Ivan doing stuff is awesome but the whole crouch and whisper was a dead giveaway for a sharp person like Jake. And Fujiwara Keiji as Jake… oh man! He sure can do a villain (he’s Rin/Yukio’s dad in Ao no Exorcist), which tells you how great his range is. I’m so loving the development. xD

    • Overcooled says:

Yessss, more T&B fansssss~ Wow, I’ve never spat out my drink from watching something, lol.

Yeah, Ivan wasn’t very…inconspicuous. He was also sweating like a pig the entire time. I was so surprised that Fujiwara voiced Jake…I kept picturing the Mayor from Arakawa or the detective guy from Noein XD

  10. MikADo says:

the obvious yaoi scenes make me and probably a few other male viewers a little discomforted, but still this is a great show 😀 but seriously, wats with the haircut man? Jake should have kept his hairstyle

    • Overcooled says:

lol it’s not even a yaoi show and it’s making you uncomfortable. Yep, they’re really pushing the lines here.

Jake will forever be fashionably challenged no matter what he does :/
