Yozakura Quartet: Hoshi no Umi – 02
Things go from fluffy to awesome!
Finally the second OVA came out! Can’t wait to see what they have done since the first OVA as it was more story and not so much action. Well, you can count the scene with Rin Azuma smashing into that truck. So, here we go for the second episode! Enjoy.
Plot this time brings in the Necromancer from the first OVA, Zakuro Kurumaki and she is after Rin. Until the team of Hime, Akina and Kotoha jump to save their friend. Also a familiar face returns to heat things up for everyone!

Zakuro paying Rin a visit. Awwww isn’t that nice? Wait what… hair grab?!
So, Zakuro visits a sleeping Rin and kidnaps her. She then bumps into Enjin, a creepy wolf guy who looks like Izaya. Hime then spots Zakuro and jumps at her for some one on one fighting. That is until she uses her Necromancer powers to take control over Rin since she is a zombie; makes for a cute puppet don’t you think?
Enjin- “What bright red hair you have!” Zakuro- “Stop that or I’ll kill you and steal that jacket”
Hime practices her helicopter attack! Also crazy camera angles!
Hime got some sick moves! So does our undead Rin! Aikawa would be proud.
With Zakuro using Rin as her undead puppet, Akina runs in and stops Rin for a while with his magic skills; however, Zakuro has more tricks to use. She summons a large giant from the ground and be Enjins to fight Hime that is until her giant well crushes her. That giant was huge! And regenerates super fast; everyone needs their own giant made from the ground.
When the bad guy glows that’s a good call to get the hell out of there!
Hime- “DUDE, NO FAIR” Zakuro-“I can’t hear you over my AWESOME monster!”
You got slimed! Or monster juiced?
Before Zakuro can do serious damage to Hime and the others, Kotoha arrives to lend a hand in this fight. Zakuro gets excited to fight another half demon like her. Kotoha is by far my most favorite character, her abilities alone make her so fun. She can basically summon any object by saying the name; she creates shortcuts to make things appear.
Half demon show down! Who can summon the best weapons??
Zakuro- “Say hello to my giant friend Steve!”
STEVE SMASH! RAWR!!
God I loved this whole fight! So damn cool! Go Kotoha!
These powers so cool on screen; she summons jets and air planes!
Yep, don’t make nurses angry! They also pack quite a shock.
After the fun attacks of Kotoha and the teamwork of Ao gathering the nurse to offer a hand, they beat Zakuro for now and we get a flashback on how Rin got to meet Zakuro when she was less evil. The two of them lived a somewhat peaceful life together, however things turned sour one day as evil Zakuro showed her true colors and attacked Rin. Why did you turn Zakuro!? You were kind of cute back then; oh well, your voice rocks anyway.
Zakuro- “Your hair smells so nice” Rin-“Stop drooling on mah FACE!”
Before Hime, Kotoha and Akina can finish Zakuro off; Rin wakes up and rushes to stop them. To Rin she doesn’t see Zakuro as being bad, she always saw her as being just lonely and needing a friend. Zakuro does push Rin away to save her from Enjin’s large fireball! That burns off Zakuro’s skin giving her a new look and the episode ends with her laughing at Hime and the others with Enjin watching from the sides.
Zakuro-“Sure got hot all of a sudden… OH CRAP FIRE MONSTER!”
That was a massive fireball right to the face!
Hime-“DAMN, Son, you got freakin’ barbecued!”
Hime- “Crap we got to hold this pose till episode three!” Zakuro-“RAAAAAAAARRRRR”

Yes I know Anri I mean Haruka, they totally didn’t invite you to fight the bad guy.

End Thoughts:
It all started with random laughs and shots of the main cast hanging around; Hime plays a bigger role this time than in the previous episode. I did enjoy the story progression for Rin’s background, they did focus on her in the first as well, but this time we get to see more and a sneak peek into the life Zakuro used to live. Not sure if she was always evil? Or something to do with the red lightning that struck her in the field of flowers. I just want to know what makes Rin so special to her; I guess it has something to do with her zombie side, could have been her first puppet.
Zakuro was a fun boss, especially with her voice, really works quite well with the character and reminded me of Vent from Index. Yuu from Korewa Zombie should fight like Zakuro! Would prove very fun; anyway, the fight between Kotoha and Zakuro was quite fun. The visuals were alright but seemed a bit clunky compared to other shows. However, watching Kotoha summon random things to fight with, so damn cool! Definitely reminded me of the move point powers Awaki uses from Index.
Enjin showing up again near the end was also great, even though he doesn’t do a whole lot. I kind of wish his sister Ao got to do something but I think she would get picked off easily. The music during the fighting was great, really setup the mood for the battles. So, overall this second episode had some great story and fun action scenes. Need the third one to come out faster! Well, there is already some great anime out there like this for spring season, looking at you Ao no Exorcist!

OVA three! Dark Zakuro versus the rest of the team. Hopefully, we’ll get some Enjin screen time and I predict drama in the finale.
