First Impression – Sengoku Otome: Momoiro Paradox
Sengoku Basara characters fell into spring of drowned girl?
So this was a last minute choice for me to sort of jump on and review, at first glance this series appears to be mostly chicks with weapons doing things! Well you are right about that, so I am not sure how perverted things will actually get. This is no Freezing, well at least not yet anyway. So, here comes a quick review of Sengoku Otome!
Plot is not original of course, girls from modern time gets thrown into old Japan. In this world all the important historical characters like Nobunaga are all females. And Hideyoshi gets recruited to help Oda find some red armor!
Meet Hideyoshi the not so bright modern girl.
Hideyoshi, the main girl seems to be rather lazy in school, she sneaks in and fails of course; don’t characters know that never ever works? But after a heart to heart with her teacher she runs home to study. However, she decides to take a detour and visit the shrine to pray, where she sees some strange glowing blue light coming from the temple. She trips her way inside and gets transported to the past. Hey Inuyasha anyone? Only it’s not a well that she uses to reach the other side.
Teacher-“If anyone sneaks in I will murder them” Sneaky sneaky
Teacher- “What do you want to be when you grow up?”
Hideyoshi- “I want to be a magical girl! Er wait make that a vampire ninja!”
Hideyoshi- “Make a contract with me? Signed by someone named Kyubey? No thank you! Sounds lame!”
Hideyoshi- “Damn, Sugata and Keito are at it again!”
When Hideyoshi wakes up, she sees a large fire and rushes over to look. Yeah, real smart run to the fire, shouldn’t you run the OTHER WAY? When she arrives she meets Akechia, Mitsuhide a purple haired ninja chick and Oda Nobunaga as they defeat some random soldiers. Then they take Hideyoshi with them to the castle.
Hideyoshi- “Oh man… fire I LOVE FIRE ’I’ll run to it”
Oda is pretty bamf! And hot *shot*
Oda seen here is fixing Hideyoshi’s cell phone
After a few laughs, Hideyoshi decides to leave until she gets lost and hungry. Oda finds her and brings her back for some dinner and asks her for help on a mission. The mission is to find some armor for Oda to conquer the world! This sounds even more like Inuyasha! You know, collect the jewel and take over the world? The episode ends with Hideyoshi talking to a dog. Yes, the dog actually responds and talks back; lame I know but I got a good laugh.
Oda- “Yep I have red hair so of course I need red armor” Hideyoshi-“Clothes to match hair, awesome idea.”
Hideyoshi- “What a cute puppy!” Dog-“Do you have a death wish, little girl??

Oda- “It’s not like I want to take over the world and kill people…for you or anything”
End Thoughts:
Not the best show ever, however it was fun to watch Hideyoshi herself and voiced by Hidaka Rina, I only know her for doing the voices of Last Order in Index and Mizuno from Star Driver. So the voice talent for the main character caught my attention the most, but the character herself? Pretty boring actually, she does makes cute sounds, which had me thinking of Sakura from Card captors. But after a while of listening to her, I kind of tuned that part out. Design wise the characters seem decent at best nothing amazing from that side.
Plot of this show screams Inuyasha! Because both have a modern main lead, getting pulled into the past to do something amazing. Sadly this is not an original idea at all! But I will give this show some credit; it could have been pulled very fast into the ecchi genre. Not saying it won’t ever happen, when you have an all female cast of characters; expect some yuri-ish moments. This is very mild compared to Samurai girls and Queen’s blade though! So think of this as the clean version of those two..
Oda seems like she will quickly become a fun character to watch and her voice works quite well! I totally expected her to have a moe voice! But this works just as well. She did blush when she talked to Hideyoshi; maybe she likes smaller less bossy girls? Hahaha. I hated that Akechia, so damn mean! But she probably keeps Oda in check on missions. The talking dog moment in this episode kind of came at me from nowhere, I was not expecting that at all. I did laugh though! So they got me… there, I said it. Will I watch this again? Highly unlikely, maybe after two or more episodes pile up.

mostly gonna follow this for the yuri potential. if none of the main cast is a boy, or most(as long as the protagonist is a girl) are girls, then there will be lesyay moments.

Hmmm yeah that will easily happen with this series! But I wouldn’t hold your breath to long on yuri happening. Probably going to be all female cast, I don’t see where a guy would play a part unless it’s a trap!

It sounded interesting at first but now I’m not so sure anymore. Maybe I’ll give it one or two more episodes before considering to continue it or drop it. This is a definite Inuyasha rip off. I hope they come up with something original, and soon. But Oda’s really hot. No wonder they introduced her in the scene with the fire going on.
