Beelzebub – 05

Chuck Norris ain’t got nothing on Oga~

It’s very stormy at the moment in deep dark Scotland, I was woken at about half 5 this morning by thunder and couldn’t get back to sleep. And what do I do when I can’t sleep? Why, watch anime of course!

So, episode 5 starts out with Oga getting hassled by some thugs at school but because Baby Beel hasn’t been sleeping neither has Oga, so he is dead on his feet. Having said that he still kicks their asses.

Discovering a strange Fate/Stay Night-like mark, Hilda tells Oga that it symbolises the contract between demon lord and parent. It will actually turn Oga into a demon as well as long as he keeps being a bastard, so he makes a vow of non-violence, which he immediately breaks . . . into Furuichi’s face.

I suppose you gotta give the guy a little credit, he tries to keep it up. Wonder how long it will last this time? Oga is chased by a big group of the schools thugs, escaping by jumping in the river. Hilda and Furuichi meanwhile are beat up and taken hostage by the TKKH. How they managed to take Hilda I have no idea. Couldn’t she have just summoned her demon parrot to eat them?

The leader of the TKKH finally shows himself, looking like Grevil from Gosick’s albino brother. He’s Himekawa and he’s got an acid gun! Which he uses to MELT OFF THEIR FACES! Only kidding, he just makes Hilda’s dress shorter. The fiend!

Oga appears to kick some ass (forgetting his promise, of course) goading Himekawa into fighting him personally because Oga hasn’t heard of him. The mark on his hand starts reacting, taking Oga up another level of badass, as if that was possible. And Hilda, back in action, starts kicking teh butt as well.

The mark grows into an awesome looking forearm tattoo, and even Hilda has to admit how impressive his powers are.

EXTRA BAMF

Baby Bizzel, here to rock the vinyl ~

I think this speaks for itself

OH RLY?

“Help! My crotch is smoking!”

It’s not easy having a good time

A wild Beelzebub appears!

END THOUGHTS

Another fun and fast paced episode! I think I expected a little more but I’m not really dissappointed with this episode. Having the best friends captured and having the hero (or villain, maybe, in Oga’s case) come to their rescue to show of their level of insane badass-ery is nothing new and there wasn’t really anything special done with the senario. And again we get handed what could be a cool antagonist but turns out just to be another weakling. Himekara’s henchmen were more intimidating than him! It’s hard to be threatening with such an impressive quiff.

I doubt we’ll get to see it, but demon Oga would be so epic. That Zebul Spell Mark makes Kurokami look like Sailor Moon, I love it.

The jokes were better this time around as well I think. There wasn’t any mention of bodily function! Hurrah! Tbh, Baby Beel was kinda downplayed in this episode, which was a nice change. Instead we got to see a lot of Furuichi and Hilda inter-acting and a few nice conversations between Hilda and the Mustache Guy about what she thinks of Oga. Oga’s pledge of non-violence was awesome, too. It would be great just to see him loose his mind trying not to punch anoyone for any long period of time.

Aargh, the weekend I decided to skip animu is the one in which some BAMF episodes come out… Looking forward to seeing this.

  2. Snowley says:

You have to wait till “villians” get any more important, now it’s just intoducing them, so don’t worry if they’re weak, they grow to be likable and cool charaters too :).

    • Hime says:

I still don’t think that excuses them from sucking but okay, I’ll hold out.

      • Dan-go says:

it’s not an epic tale of hero vs villains, i dont NEED a super powerful villain, who the hero overcomes after much tragedy and effort etc etc…imo it’s funny, i like it, keep it that way

        • Hime says:

What really bothered me was that the two villains we’ve had so far were basically the same so the joke was just repeated, which I don’t find all that funny.

I love how Furuichi is the only character to take anything seriously.

  5. Aro says:

Shouldn’t have watched the OVA first, this episode would have been funnier I think.

      Fanfic writers…TO YOUR STATIONS!

The fact Furuichi looks so much like Zero and is being forced to cross dress proves that the anime god is listening to our prayers.

      • Dan-go says:

        women…there’s no sense to them

      • anaaga says:

all we need is someone who lookds exactly like kaname to become furuichi’s uke. MY OTP. if that happens, i think i’ll stop sleeping at church
