It is an another season of jaw-dropping animation courtesy of SHAFT, amazing vector effects and a beautiful love story as ef ~a tale of melodies~ continues the rest of the latter tale.

The story basically lefts off from where ef ~a tale of memories~ had left. This time, it tackles two different couples from two separate tales. The first one is the tale of Yuu Himura and Yuuko Amamiya. Little is known yet about their coupling but they are somehow childhood friends which have not sen each other for ten years.

Then there’s the show-stopping OP theme in the middle…

And now we head on over to the second couple…

Mizuki is staying over at Renji’s house on Australia for the time being until she enters her university. She does not have anything to do yet before the exams so she was just interested in visiting a violinist named Kuze, which Kenji was interpreting as a pervert and a playboy.Mizuki nevermind that anyway, so along with Renji’s mom, they went for a visit.

Renji’s mother introduces Kuze to Mizuki, who discovers some of the things Renji was trying to warn her about him might be true. From different sailor uniforms to sharing some drinks, Mizuki and Kuze spend the rest of the day together, and the two become more familiar with each other.

Kan chats…

I love this made me feel like this was really a direct sequel. From showing the words “euphoric field” on its OP theme that is almost nostalgic as the 1st season’s OP. Besides from that, I love the character of Nagi, she’s quite unique for a character that I’ve seen for a while so I’m definitely looking forward on seeing more of her and her background. Among the two tales, I really can’t pick a favorite because the two seems very interesting and worth seeing more of.Yuu and Yuuko are very mysterious and interesting, and I want to know about their backgrounds. And also about Kuze Shuuichi, which seems to have a dark past and an illness (because he’s seen taking medication.)…

They again made an amazing job on the OP theme. It was also eye-catching with its monochrome effects and a controversial bit of Yuu being kinda crucified. The song was really upbeat and beautiful. Animation-wise, the backdrops of astounding sunset views, vast skies with shiny lights on the night which almost feels like the Aurora Borealis. The music was definitely a stand-out too, each one suits the mood well from calmness to suspense and drama. I also noticed a lot of interesting dialogues throught the whole episode from figurative speakings about masks and a little bit of a one-liner with the word ‘condom’ in it, which I don’t know what Kuze meant when he said that O_O…

That’s because nothing really changed except for the new characters! 🙂

@7: The OP was new… It just sounded almost reminiscent of ebullient future. I was talking about how brilliant SHAFT did on connecting the two by their OPs too unlike other anime sequels. 🙂

Looks like you still have a shred of innocence left in you 😛

  4. kanzeon says:

@Baka-Raptor: Lol I know what that is! Ugh.. I just don’t get what he meant when he said that after the girl asked him to play the violin…

Here’s how the conversation goes (not exactly):

Kuze: “I’m sorry for not being able to fulfill your expectations…”

Mizuki: “I’m crestfallen… I’ve been wanting to see you play live… A live one would be better…”

Kuze: “I prefer it bare too, more so with a condom…”

…I just don’t get that XD

  5. Baka-Raptor says:

    The line should be:

I prefer it bare too, more so than with a condom

Get it now? If not, you still have a shred of innocence left in you 😛

  6. kanzeon says:

    @Baka-Raptor: Oh…

    Umm…

    Hmm…

    Ugh.

    I give up X_X…

  7. 7 says:

Why are we having a fuss over a condom? The only time we should make a big deal ’bout condoms is if it broke. 🙂

Anyhow, the fact that we’re having this conversation is proof of Kuze’s madness infecting us all…

  8. kanzeon says:

@7: I think Kuze is saying some kind of symbolism on that phrase… When I knew that he was taking medication, I thought that he may be infertile/ he can have a disease regarding his reproductive… you know… That’s just a speculation though…

  9. issa-sa says:

eh, i thought when she said ‘live’ in ‘live performance’, she used the japanese word ‘nama’, which literally means raw/live, but in this instance could also mean ‘bare’ (which Kuze took advantage of…)

  10. Baka-Raptor says:

I think your -20% innocence just jumped up to about +20%.

  11. kanzeon says:

@issa-sa: Oh.. So that’s what it is ^_^ Sorry I can’t understand those words XD…

    @Baka-Raptor: Lol XD… So true.
