Anime’s Next Top Model 08: The Girls and The Gothic Lolita Fashion
The voting still continues as the Top 4 shows more of what they got! This time, it’s all about selling clothes as the girls do a photoshoot in LOLITA GOTHIC OUTFITS! Will Enma Ai turn from ‘edgy’ to ‘commercial’? Will Haruhi raise herself up a notch from the competition? Will CC show versatility? Or will Chii continue her winning streak? One thing is for sure, they did their utmost best in this photoshoot so check it out.
As you all know, Lolita Gohic fashion is popular in Japan nowadays. It draws inspiration from Rococo, Victorian Style and Edwardian fashion. The style was best known at first by only wearing it with black and white lacy dresses but as time goes by, Gothic Lolita had been experimented with different colors and accessories and had evolved into different kinds: ranging from punk, gory, elegant, and sweet.
The Lolita style began in the 1970’s with brands such as Milk and Pink House making outfits that resembled Canada’s Anne of Green Gables (which is widely loved in Japan) and, to a lesser extent, Little House on the Prairie. Angelic Pretty opened in 1979, Baby The Stars Shine Bright opened in the 80’s, and Moi-meme-Moitie opened in 1999.
Mana, ex-Malice Mizer (co-founded with Kozi, also guitar), is widely credited for having helped popularize Gothic Lolita, though he is not a founder of the style. He coined the terms “Elegant Gothic Lolita” (EGL) and “Elegant Gothic Aristocrat” (EGA) to describe the style of his own fashion label Moi-même-Moitié, which was founded in 1999. Other influential figures in the scene include the singer Kana, who often modeled for Lolita related fashion magazines, and Mitsukazu Mihara, who drew the first eight covers of the Gothic & Lolita Bible. {Source: Wikipedia]
In the present time, it had been a huge influence on the Japanese culture not only on fashion. It had also been popular in the anime culture (see Shugo Chara, Paradise Kiss, Le Portrait de la Petit Cossette, Rozen Maiden and many more), music and television. It is currently already been picked up worldwide.

Ok, here’s what I think about the girls’ photos:
Chii: Modelesque and pretty. She turned from an innocent girl to a sexy gothic babe.
Haruhi: Better compared to her previous photos (which were horrible btw) but I don’t think it’s that great.
Enma Ai: Wow this one shocked me. Elegant, gorgeous, glamorous, I love this photo.
CC: Well, I don’t really like her since the start and her photo is awful…
