First Impressions – Kaitou Tenshi Twin Angel

Gotta love these magical girl outfits <3

It’s finally time for a non dark magical girl series where nobody dies! At least from the trailers Kaitou Tenshi Twin Angel aka Twin Angel Break is purely going the comedic element, but this is probably another series that nobody is going to watch.

Classic Magical Girl

Bath time is always a great time.

Twin Angel is a old series that got its start back in 2011 from JC Staff followed by four different OVA series and it’s based off a manga that came out in 2007. So I guess it has a bit of a history and now we’re getting Twin Angel Break which is technically season two? If you saw episode three you would know it’s actually connected to the original thanks to the appearance of Haruka Minazuki, Aoi Kannazuki, Sumire’s brother Yuito Kisaragi and the non hedgehog form of Kurumi Hazuki voiced by Rie Kugimiya reprising the same character from 2011! I didn’t really know all of that but I get the feeling if you didn’t see the original it doesn’t matter? Twin Angel Break is fairly easy to follow without the need of being super complex.

Slime time though not so much…

So far it’s got all the makings of classic magical girl stuff we’ve come to expect complete with goofy mini bosses collecting some sort of energy from humans to revive possibly revive some super evil guy along with a talking mascot animal! This time we get a loud bitchy hedgehog Milk-chan who spends most of her time being angry? Seriously what is her freakin deal? Just kidding I know she has her mind set on saving the previous twin angels so she needs Sumire Kisaragi and Meguru Amatsuki to hurry up and get stronger in order to save her past team.

Rie Kugimiya playing another mascot? Seems she only gets these kinds of roles lately…

Speaking of Sumire and Meguru I liked that they didn’t get along at the start, but this “I rather work alone” thing always comes up in a lot of magical girl shows. I know Precure has used that type of storyline for past characters before and we saw it in the first season of Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya with Miyu wanting to work alone and going back to the original days of Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha with Fate fighting Nanoha instead of helping. Now that isn’t a bad thing I think it works wonders for the characters because the payoff is getting to see how they eventually become friends after agreeing to work together. That said wow it only took roughly three episodes for Sumire and Meguru to become friends, but hey it helped that the dog they found sorta forced the two of them to spend a lot of time together and build that friendship or was it the baths they took together? Who knows.

Extra magical girls

Its important to stretch before transforming!

Yay more baths!

Spoilers the blonde is a cross-dressing boy.

Sumire is super protective of her brother.

Nice drawing skills!

Happy hedgehogs are da best~

End Thoughts

These three episodes of Twin Angel Break weren’t so bad, so far I’m invested in seeing more episodes of Sumire and Meguru working together to save the previous twin angels and learning that this is sorta connected to the 2011 series is kinda cool I guess? Aside from that the production side of things is not that bad, all the characters have great designs and the magical girl transformation scenes are fun and the opening is very catchy. I’m also glad Twin Angel Break didn’t decide to be another dark magical girl series and instead went for a the classic magical girl type of story or would that kind of dark and sad story make this a bit more popular?

About

Is huge anime fan from Florida! who loves to watch anime and also enjoys drawing and collecting pictures, my favorite genre of anime has to be Mecha, there is just something awesome about giant robots beating the crap out of each other! Other than that type of show, I love a good comedy or action series :D

OMG the one girl, with the ram’s hoodie. The one with the closed eyes and the never ending grin! Someone help her! There was a scene in the fist ep when she and her fellows where in danger, all of them acted in shock, and the face animation for them changed. Except for Baa-chan! Her face didn’t change! She needs some medical help!

LOL yeah I have no idea wtf sheep/ram girl even does? Why was she created for this? Who thought that was a funny idea? I wonder if she is a bad guy like the nurse or something? As for her face I guess its stuck that way…

      • skylion says:

        I feel terrible for her…

        • Foshizzel says:

          Hahaha yeah same

          • skylion says:

Well really she’s a pile of tropes. She has the “baa” appendation/verbal tic. The animal hoodie, and the eyes closed thing. The, dare I say JOKER-LIKE, constant grin is a trope to far. I wonder if there will ever be that scary moment she opens her eyes, drops the “baa” and tells one of the two leads something super serious that advances the plot.

            • Foshizzel says:

Yeah that verbal tic is funny ill admit that but as messed up as it is to say thankfully she’s just a random school friend LOL as for the constant smile it is a bit creepy! It sorta reminds me of a few characters from Scorching Ping Pong Girls as in Kururi “East Driver” Futamaru and Kiruka “Captain” Ushirode? Both of them have odd facial expressions the entire time.

Also maybe sheep/ram girl just wants to see the world burn? Imagine the voices she has in that head of hers! I’m also curious about her parents? What are they like? Do they know their daughter is “weird” and why da fk is that blonde boy even allowed to crossdress? Hahah

            • HannoX says:

Do you suppose ram girl comes from a family that raises sheep? Which raises the off topic question of how much of a thing is sheep farming in Japan?

            • skylion says:

She could be cosplaying a Settlers of Catan trade item. Got wood?

            • HannoX says:

I’m not familiar with Settlers of Catan so I’ll take your word for it.

            • skylion says:

It’s a resource acquisition and trading game. You build points by securing sheep, ore, wood, and wheat. Of course, those are abstracts.
