This continues to be an intriguing show with its bright colors, imaginative settings and fun characters. Right now the fact that so much remains unexplained is just fine. Explanations can unfold in their own good time as long as the show remains entertaining and the lack of explanations doesn’t become frustrating. Definitely one of the highlights of the season.

Yep! 100% agreed! Eventually we will learn the truth about the Flip Flappers organization and all that, but for now the not knowing is also fine with me.

Hahahaha wow skylion; i half expected this after watching the podcast. I like how this ep used the ideas of Jacob von Uexkull (who cocona must have named her rabbit after) an early 20th century German biologist who suggested the concept of umwelt, a theory that suggests that the reason why lifeforms perceive the world differently from another is based around the importance of that of which they imprint on, i.e what they mark as important in their environment. Von Uexkull purported that humans werent all that different from animals in how they imprint on the world and this ep of flipflappers makes a nod to that notion by having the girls and uexkull dance between the realms of human and animal when in pure illusion. It was a clever way of highlighting the occurring notion of perception that has been alluded to these two episodes and using it as a vehicle to make papika develop a tad bit as a character and solidify the cast a bit more. Stuff like this is what i mean when i say that the visuals speak for the narrative. There’s something definitely cooking underneath all this and ima keep a close eye out and rewatch eps to get a better idea of what’s going on in this narrative.

In regards to the idea of the significance of cocona fighting the urge to bite things (besides it being what bunnies do), i think it was supposed to represent cocona fighting the urge to “go with the flow”. We see in ep 1 that Cocona seems to have a chip on her shoulder. When she notices that she’s having fun with papika in the snowy pure illusion, she quickly decides to put up a front and fight the feelings of bliss beginning to overwhelm her. We see that in this episode 2, where she fights the urge to bite things. She fights against papika on going adventure. However sometimes you have to accept what life throws at you and take chances. This is illustrated when cocona realizes that the she would need to bite her way through the cage if she wanted to escape, ultimately allowing herself to do the thing she was fighting against. When the ordeal is over, Cocona decides that it’s ok to adventure with papika every once in a while. She’s learning not to be so stiff and to sometimes just go with the flow……i could also just be reading too much into it but this is the type of storytelling that asks you to interpret. I gotta admit; i dig this show.

EDIT: Let’s put this one in the right place, shall we?

It’s a good idea. I mean, my cat perceives the world more by a sense of smell, and yeah she has eyes and uses them really well, but not to the extent that I do. I see a red dot on the ground when I play with the laser pointer, but she see’s it sparkling like crazy. But then again, she don’t read…markers are markers, like you say…

I’m going to have to pass on this series and maybe I might give it another chance when all the episodes are available. So far, nothing about the show is really resonating with me that makes it worth the weekly format following and Papika is quite the annoying airhead that she’s already eating away at my patience.

    • Foshizzel says:

Yeah I guess if you don’t want to wait around for the real plot to be revealed then might as well marathon it when it wraps up, but as for me and a few others I kinda like not knowing right the series is going for and honestly its kinda silly to expect to know everything right away when there are only two episodes out.

You can might Papika annoying, but I find her to be a really fun character even though she does come off as a tad bit too childish at times and personally I find Kokona to be the dull one even though she is written that way.

      • BlackBriar says:

It’s not that I want to know everything right away. The series isn’t keeping me interested to want to stick around and see what happens while it’s taking its time. It’s boring and all I’m getting so far are random shenanigans that I don’t care to remember afterwards.

Well, at this point, I can sympathize with Kokona getting annoyed by Papika for her constant stalking.

        • Foshizzel says:

Yeah I could see that point of view, but i’m all for the random stuff week to week with hints of story later and given the oddball art style I think Flip Flappers is better suited for random and wacky instead of being super serious.

At least Papika isn’t a yandere lol

          • BlackBriar says:

I see. Well, I guess between the two of us, being wacky for the sake of it doesn’t do it for me. An intolerance that developed over time which was my biggest reason for dropping the axe on Nanbaka right on the first episode. Shows like Bungou Stray Dogs are more my style having a balance between humor and appealing plot progression along with likable characters.

Papika’s most detrimental trait is her inability to read people’s moods. Had she tried to get to Kokona with a different approach, I’d have been more lenient.

  3. Namaewoinai says:

You See, that Orange Girl there (Papika, Right?!), she such a primitive minded…Well IMO that is…but hey i guess her emotions is in the right way!

Anyways, i wonder why that guy want to liberate pure illusion? Hmmm who knows, i keep an eye on it.

So yeah i stick with this show, even the artwork style seem to be took by a familiar one!
