Mira is having a rough day.

winter15-foshGotta love the title of this weeks episode! The mystery hidden in lake Yasogami I swear it sounds like the title of an episode of Scooby-doo and oh boy what a mystery it was and this was only part one…

Spooky Scary Ghosts

One day these two will be best friends!

You just gotta love the fact that Mira is afraid of the supernatural world! I dunno why but I found that side of her to be quite cute or maybe it was added to make her more human again? So what is the mystery of lake Yasogami? For starters we pick right up with Kyouma being given this mission by New Tesla Energy by Albert who we learned used to be a part of Grendel with Kyouma in the past?! I guess that does explain why the two of them are such good fighters huh? I just assumed they knew each other through New Tesla Energy? I laughed when Kyouma saw Albert in the flashback and was all NOPE and got ready to leave! Yeah once again we know Kyouma is not a people person. So yeah Kyouma and Mira are sent to this mysterious lake to find out who the hell murdered a famous novelist named Shijuro Sakaki who kinda looks like Johnny Depp. Before our collectors even arrive at the lake Mira thinks she saw a ghost on the road and Kyouma being Kyouma thinks shes just broken again! Ha jokes! Once they arrive at the mansion they are greeted by some random people and the obvious group of bad looking dudes! Yeah good job hiding that because wow do they ever scream BAD GUYS! Oh and we also meet another new collector named Elizabeth Greenhough Smith who appears to have a thing for vampires? Yeah think she just likes looking like a vampire and isn’t really a vampire because as out there as Dimension W is I don’t think they are going to suddenly throw in a supernatural characters just yet. The next day Kyouma does some solo investigation work around the lake while Mira does some reading or scanning and it didn’t take long for Kyouma reach the conclusion with Albert’s help that a numbers coil is actually causing all the chaos at the lake? Duh you think? Of course it’s a coil or maybe it’s an old man wearing a rubber mask? Then Kyouma better feed Mira some Scooby snacks.

D’awww poor Mira stuck sleeping on the couch.

Soooo were there really ghosts or were they holograms? I was a bit confused on what this 189 numbered coil actually does aside from it being obviously dangerous to use as we learned from Albert who told Kyouma a physics professor named Kenjiro Kuroda was using it and a few students died because of it? I know from Mira’s perspective it looked like it could actually tap into another world to bring the dead back as ghosts or is the 189 numbered coil technically tapping into the another part of the W dimension? Like if you died to this specific coil your “spirit” or “soul” was sent to that dimension or did those people actually die? I kind of figured they were sent to the other side like Dr. Yurizaki? That said how was Mira able to enter that world? Is it because of her being a machine it just sent her mind there? I know it was revealed this week that she has a unique ability to recreate whatever she sees inside her mind making it real to her and after reading those murder mysteries it made those images real? We could say she is trapped in a creepy dream world? That reminds me of A Nightmare on Elms Street if were going with the whole “dream” thing or other world setup with the dead coming back, but again I honestly have no idea! I just hope we get more of a detailed explanation on what the hell this 189 numbered coil actually does.

End Thoughts

Holy mysteries batman! This was a crazy episode, but aside from all the odd mysteries and surprise ghost sightings it was really funny watching Mira get freaked out so easily and yeah I know most of it was simply played up as comical to give her more of a human personality. Speaking of Mira we did get some nice Mira fanservice this week! I swear she must have a special magnetic towel because that thing was not coming off! This was also the first two part episode of the series and I gotta say Dimension W is doing a good job revealing the truth about the illegal coils and special numbered coils, I just want to know what the 189 numbered coil actually does! Also it looks like we have seen all the characters from the opening so maybe we can start finding more of Kyouma’s old Grendel team members? I was surprised that Albert was a part of that original team.

About

Is huge anime fan from Florida! who loves to watch anime and also enjoys drawing and collecting pictures, my favorite genre of anime has to be Mecha, there is just something awesome about giant robots beating the crap out of each other! Other than that type of show, I love a good comedy or action series :D

Da fuc…. BDSM in this cute anime?!! Preposterous!

    • BlackBriar says:

“Cute”? That’s not what I’d call this show. It suits Mira but I wouldn’t use that description for the series. It’s more exciting and unpredictable. As for the “BDSM”, like I said: unpredictable.

    • Nerazim says:

why not? they even got a little love dungeon out on the yard (aka Mira’s Trailer)

    • Foshizzel says:

She isn’t even tied up much if you saw the episode at the end the chains are barely holding her down lol…

Man, this was good! I watched it two more times after the first! Personally, I like that it’s one part of a bigger story. Therefore, negating the feel of being purely episodic until the end of the run.

Albert revealed as a former member of Grendel is an unnerving surprise. Both because I initially thought of him as a typically weak pawn power tripping off New Tesla’s authority and it will make for a tighter noose around Kyouma’s neck if Mira’s secret gets out.

So yeah Kyouma and Mira are sent to this mysterious lake to find out who the hell murdered a famous novelist named Shijuro Sakaki who kinda looks like Johnny Depp.

I’ve seen that across the net so much recently that I’ve lost count. If anything, the guy looks like an older version of Johnny Depp.

So I wasn’t the only one on that assumption. I first got that vibe seeing Elizabeth in the PV and now it’s even stronger seeing her use bats to monitor people. Plus, she gives off that European-like aura. Among the MAL comments, someone called her a blonde haired Krul Tepes. Which I can wholeheartedly agree on just looking at her attire, hair accesory and red eyes. Her seiyuu Eri Suzuki (Heavy Object’s Milinda Brantini) has few notable roles but I have the feeling I’ll like this one real quick.

The overall feel was like out of a horror movie, especially the spots Kyouma investigated. Unexpected but all the more fun and maybe a sign that sci-fi doesn’t have a monopoly here. So coils can mess with the dead. Noted and added to the list of their fearsome capabilities. Then again, the coil energy is derived from a place that hardly anyone understands. It’s probably not farfetched to assume there are varying effects from different “Numbers” coils. New Tesla has done nothing but mass produce items without fully considering the drawbacks then cover the mess when occurred.

My theory is Mira’s image recreation caused her to cross from the real world to where the “Numbers” victims are trapped and there’s a field that hasn’t dissipated in the past 21 years since the accident. She did say what she saw was similar to what was in the novels she read.

    • Foshizzel says:

Yeah having a two part definitely breaks up the episodic feel to it.

Elizabeth has a good design and her bat theme works really well and I’m sure just like Loser we haven’t seen the last of those two! I just wonder what she collects? Since she knew right away that Mira was a robot maybe shes into collecting them?

LOL yeah it did have more of a horror vibe.

I think so Mira’s image recreation basically made those “ghosts” real to her so she is trapped inside her own mind! I guess sorta like inception? xD

It makes sense if you’re backtracking on past events. Last episode as Claire Skyheart was speaking with Albert, she said: “By the way, I met the other beast of Grendel”. That was a foreshadowing and we didn’t notice.

    • Foshizzel says:

Yeah I totally did not think about what Claire said last week cause I was like wait OTHER? Who is she talking about? So yeah it makes total since she meant Albert.

    • IreneSharda says:

Speak for yourself, I noticed. You boys just need to pay attention to details. 😛

  4. Nerazim says:

so yep, as the first episode to not be a stand-alone, i’m quite happy with it.
only thing now is that we’re catching up to the english translations of the manga really fast now…

    • BlackBriar says:

Then I guess it’s true. Word is this episode is condensed adaptation of 9 chapters worth of manga material. I’m anime-only viewer where this series is concerned and noticed it did feel fast paced but didn’t realize so much was being cut away.

    • Foshizzel says:

Over on Funimation’s youtube page you can see a lot of behind the scenes stuff on the making of for Dimension W and you can see they had all the manga on hand for the scripts which is interesting~

  5. skylion says:

So, has she been programmed to feel fear for a reason? In as much as she has been programmed to cry or feel happy? To fit in with humans? Or is this some crazy coil science we don’t know about yet?

OoOoO. The numbers are the evil things from dimW. Is there something inside Mira that’s one of the good things, or maybe they’re the not so bad things?

    • skylion says:

    • Foshizzel says:

I have no idea I guess so she could blend in with normal humans? I thought it was cute that she acted that way at the mention of ghosts, but yeah agreed it was a little weird.

    • IreneSharda says:

I’d probably say that Mira is similar to Ultron (and later Vision), or at least the comic version of him, where his mind was created via Pym’s own brain patterns. The only difference is that Mira probably has that of the daughter. She is as android as you can possibly get, and has very similar mental processes to a human, including the ability to feel emotion.

She’s the most human-like android in their society.

And the Numbers aren’t really evil or good, they are just technology that can tap deeper into another dimension than a regular coil. They are essentially, the giant towers condensed into tiny form. I don’t know what’s in Dimension W, but whatever it is, it sure is both interesting and powerful.

  6. IreneSharda says:

That was a pretty weird episode. It was kind of cool with Albert and Kyoma always going at it. They kind of annoy each other, but they’re friends.

This was a very interesting ghost tale, mostly because of the fact that there are actual “ghosts” that seem to just be coming from Dimension W.

Don’t really know what to make of goth loli girl, but maybe when we get to see more of her.

Also, I like that Kyoma is at least varying his nicknames for Mira. In fact, I can’t really remember a time that he’s called her by her actual name.

She’s gone from “Robot” to “Piece of Junk” to “Rubbish”. LOL 😀

    • BlackBriar says:

This was a very interesting ghost tale, mostly because of the fact that there are actual “ghosts” that seem to just be coming from Dimension W.

The tech master Koorogi said the people on the robot footage had no mass. Some were seen actually going through solid objects. So they’re the closest thing to ghosts you can get.

Don’t really know what to make of goth loli girl, but maybe when we get to see more of her.

Don’t tell me you weren’t thinking “vampire” when you saw the way she dressed, that hair accessory, her red eyes and her using bats to carry out her work.
