Luck & Logic – 02

Stop being so cute Athena <3

winter15-foshAs you can tell I have decided to review Luck and Logic for the current winter season! I also have another series I will be following, but for now I will stick to this one because the first episode was quite interesting and I’m curious to see where things end up.

Not a harem after all?

main (2)

The only bit of fanservice this week~

After the end of the first episode I assumed that we were going to be dealing with typical harem antics since Athena and Yoshichika ended up sharing a room, but after the second episode I feel that Luck & Logic might not be a harem series after all? Unless they are saving those bits for later? Such as the whole walking in on someone showering or getting dressed. Personally I don’t really care which direction it goes because I’m so used to harem series at this point so I couldn’t care less; however I know some would rather have this series avoid those tropes all together.

Stuff this week

Venus loves Yoshichika!?

With that out of the way lets focus on some other stuff like the fact that purple haired guy Jarno Utsutsuno isn’t a bad guy after all, but he is the ALCA Director and of course we know from last week he’s been keeping a close eye on Yoshichika which I still think is a bit strange or is it? I suppose Jarno just wanted to recruit Yoshichika because of his natural talents as a Logicalist? That said he still has to go through a trial period which means tests and training?! Speaking of testing did they really spend the entire first day taking that test with Nemesis? Also how they heck is Chloe still allowed to fight with the others? Clearly she is lacking in the brains department or do they not care since shes the muscle on the team? Then again I sort of expect there to be at least one air head on the team so it works for me. As far as the other training goes we get some VR training; however since Yukari doesn’t have a Convent to work with at the moment she is more of an observer for now much like Olga who is a logiclist but at the same time isn’t one? I was confused when I heard that as well until they fully explained that he doesn’t have a convent either? Then why the hell is he acting like hes some awesome bad ass around Yoshichika? Maybe he just THINKS hes amazing when in reality he isn’t? I have no idea if that was meant to be hilarious or sad?

LucknLogic

Snipers are cool~

Besides that reveal on Olga we learned what really happens when you activate Over Trance much like I said in my first impressions, using that ultimate move basically turns you into a full god for a short period of time; however if you fail to pull it off you get the added bonus of loosing your original personality? I mean clearly Yoshichika did it with no problems so I wouldn’t be shocked if someone like Olga tried and failed resulting in screwing up his mind or it was just mentioned because we might be seeing it soon? If anyone is going to push themselves to the limit and activate Over Trance it would be either Olga or Yoshichika because they have a rivalry for some reason? I am still confused on Olga’s character. Finally near the end Yoshichika was appointed the new leader of the team leaving Tamaki a bit annoyed about that choice and yeah I know why she thinks it’s dumb because she was there first, but unfortunately Yoshichika has more experience; however at the same time we never really got to see Tamaki lead the team before so we have no idea how skilled she was as the original leader.

End Thoughts

header-winter15-fosh

Well that was a fun information filled episode just to give us some knowledge on how things work in this silly world and we got a handful of funny moments with Chole failing the LONGEST test ever! I know she isn’t smart when it comes to school work, but I liked her extreme hamburger making skills and for now she remains my favorite character or will Athena take that spot soon? She was really cute at the start of the episode with her “secret dream” and I wonder what she was dreaming about? Probably Yoshichika of course! Aside from those two it appears that Venus also has her eyes on him, but since she is the goddess of love so I sort of expected her to be that way. So is anyone else confused on Olga’s character like me or am I alone? I mean really though is he crazy to think that hes some kind of bad ass or is he really skilled like Yoshichika? I think hes completely nuts! Anyway see you next week for more Luck and logic.

About

Is huge anime fan from Florida! who loves to watch anime and also enjoys drawing and collecting pictures, my favorite genre of anime has to be Mecha, there is just something awesome about giant robots beating the crap out of each other! like the fact that purple haired guy Jarno Utsutsuno isn’t a bad guy after all, but he is the ALCA Director

I do not consider him being the ALCA director to be a guarantee that he’s not a bad guy. He’s seriously shadey.

As for Olga, I think he’s just a smug jerk. The sort of person who is convinced he is the greatest person in the world, despite never having done anything to deserve that title. I also suspect he’s a coward who would run away screaming if he were ever actually in danger, because that’s the character stereotype.

Re: Over Trance- it’s not that the main character with the unspellable name did it with no problems, it’s just that he did it and survived. Considering that a piece of his soul was ripped out and left floating in the ocean for Athena to find, I’d say it was not exactly a good experience, nonetheless. His sister’s reaction to him trying to fight again leads me to believe that he ended up in really bad condition afterwards, too, like maybe hospitalized for a long time.

Which eccentric in anime in a high ranking position with absolute power isn’t shady? 😉

      • Foshizzel says:

Lol yeah p much all of them?? I know we had a ton of headmasters of schools in 2015 that were shady as hell from Absolute Duo, Trinity 7 and Taimadou Gakuen 35 Shiken Shoutai.

    • Foshizzel says:

Right that purple background isn’t doing him any favors thou since that color is often associated with villains in anime at least I noticed a trend with that color xD

Yeah I kinda figured after the fact that Olga is just a super cocky dude who just assumes hes this badass when clearly he has NO experience with anything! If he had proof to back up his claims I wouldn’t care, but it’s laughable that he thinks hes great hahah or as Athena said it’s really sad…

Right I guess even if you manage a successful Over Trance you still risk part of your personality being lost and agreed there is something his sister has yet to reveal about the past with her brother after he did used Over Trance.

The source Luck and Logic card game will have an English release this summer.
The game’s a physical copy, IIRC.

There’ll also be a series of shorts about 3 schoolgirls playing the card game itself, to be included with the Bluray releases.

I’d have liked it if they fed us a lot of that information in a better manner, or even not at all. This was a pretty poor form of exposition that didn’t fit in the world very well. “Let’s have a 500 question quiz where I’m going to read out all the answers and you answer game show style.” No, let’s not do that. “Let’s have a training match where the new guy takes over and mansplains everyone’s ability.” No, let’s not do that either. And seriously, Yoshichika cannot take a hint. How many times did they say “let’s not talk about Olga”? And he brought it up again and again? Maybe they thought it would make the reveal funnier when he turned out to be a derp, but it didn’t. It just made Yoshichika look like an obsessive twerp who can’t take a hint.

I’m hoping that this was the sacrifice episode, although the fact that they couldn’t think of better ways of worldbuilding isn’t particularly reassuring.

    • Foshizzel says:

Lol yeah true the whole story reveal in the form of a game show was rather dumb and we only saw like a few questions? I guess we will get more later and I have no idea why Yoshichika was so obsessed with learning about Olga! I guess typical thing when you’re told stop you wanna know WHY and I would have prefered if Olga was indeed out of his mind instead of Mr. cool who thinks hes cool.

      Probably I hope so too…

You’re right on the air-head bit, but it’s more this: Valkyrie is huge powerful and they need her on team, so they need Chloe on the team…

    • Highway says:

I think there’s a big difference between lack of ‘book smarts’ and lack of situational intelligence and awareness. Chloe’s lack of details might be a plot point later in the show, but as a continuing issue, it’s not really a make or break thing. Do you want all your people to be smarter? Sure. But there’s a floor that they have to be above to be effective, and she’s above that.

They haven’t obviously been forcing workarounds to minimize that liability to this point.

    • Foshizzel says:

I mean i’m probably sure the US Army wants some people with brains doing the important stuff while someone with above or below average intelligence is stuck doing the grunt work in the field and what not, but with Luck and Logic yeah I suppose Chole is safe because they have a use for her and the fact that this branch is small with only 4 Logicalist to work with while Olga and Yukari are still waiting to meet their partners.

  5. BlackBriar says:

Didn’t take long for the show’s designated douchebag to show his arrogant mug. “Olga Breakchild”… Aside from automatically thinking of a girl thanks to the first name, he’s most likely of Russian descent. What gets to me is his baseless overconfidence and superiority complex. The guy hasn’t done a single Trance and he’s already boasting. If anyone’s entitled to bragging rights, it’s Yoshichika.

Maybe it isn’t farfetched in assuming the reason Olga gets special treatment is that he has something on ALCA. Bets are either he has damning leverage and is blackmailing them or maybe his family is a benefactor.

There’s the age permission that has me curious. Tamaki Yurine is currently 17 years old and it was revealed her first Trance was at 13. So I’m wondering if there weren’t any objections to recruiting agents so young and sending them out to such a dangerous field.

I know she isn’t smart when it comes to school work, but I liked her extreme hamburger making skills

That was disturbing and came out of nowhere. Those are jaw stretcher specials. Only Shaggy and Scooby can tackle those culinary monstrosities.

    • HannoX says:

It’s been stated that they gain their abilities around puberty and lose them when they become adults around 20. So ALCA has to take them young. Of course, that’s just so there’s an excuse to have teenagers battling monsters.

    • Foshizzel says:

Ahahah yeah the name Olga Breakchild sounds very Russian and more female than male, but I can’t wait to see him put in a dangerous situation where he has to panic especially with his “I’m so awesome and everyone should know it” attitude just to see it explode back in his face.

I could see that being the case if Olga’s parents were funding the ALCA then he gets a free pass and can hang around or maybe he had a partner before but it didn’t go so well between them? I have a feeling hes got more backstory for us to discover later or hes just an ass who think’s hes great.

The age thing is interesting, but at the same time age rarely if anything plays a role in most anime it’s just there to make you think WOW! He was that skilled at 13?!

LOL Yeah Chole pulled those burgers out of some extreme food dimension~
