Koukaku no Pandora: Ghost Urn – 02

Some parts may need assembly and might not be SFW!!!

It’s nice to know that some shows are remaining as both straight-faced and straightforward as ever. This makes two shows I’ve covered this week that feature a creature from the Ars Goetia. Grimgar is a magic show by nature, and should have a summoner class, think I’ll get three? Does it matter? On with Pandora!!!

Doll Skin and Doll Hearts

So, if you like doll-joints….

There isn’t a lot to hammer out about this episode as far as the major plot goes. There isn’t much of it yet, so there’s hardly any twists to explore, nor have any huge consequences or revelations been uncovered. Which isn’t to say that the episode hasn’t been eventful. Far from it. But what we have in this two part opening story is the show etching everything into the bare metal; carving the circuits right into the backbone of all the genre conventions and stamping it’s territory.

Nene has to earn that cuddle time!

So last episode, after getting used to the show’s general tone, we have Uzal and Nene in the advanced city of Cenancle. Uzal’s opposition, to say anything about them with charity, have rebelled against her for undisclosed reasons, and have set them up the BUER (Base of Unearthed Resources). So after Nene gets the Pandora upgrade and the Optical Camoflauge/Magical Girl Outfit Transformation Scene upgrade she’s ready to get into the action. Keep in mind that Team Fesith didn’t mean to do this and they insinuated that BUER is more than just a boring machine, so they might have been wanting to dismantle or destroy it. But this is something that Uzal wants to keep Nene from finding out…

#Team Festish

So stopping BUER is a matter of using the Festish Crew as a distraction; which given how they dress and what eventually pops out of the giant death eye-ball that is BUER is working on three different levels, and focusing Clarion’s kickassery on the big robot’s weakness; a complicated reset button. Nene is to provide cover with even bigger and better weapons upgrade skills. But to complicate matters, the base is falling apart, and a huge chunk falls in the way of Clarion’s carefully laid plans, which forces the heroes into a hastily strung-together Plan B.

I really wanted to see “just punching the sh#t out of it” as an option…

Clarion is able to wirelessly control a group of helper robots and she’s the one to provide the distraction, as Nene is able to shut it all down. Which was risky given Nene’s newbie nature and the show even cut it’s pacing to display this.  Uzal then removes the robots Central Nervous Unit which prompts a self-destruct. But as with all of these sorts of high tension situations, someone has to stay behind as the sacrifice to make sure everyone makes it out; and that someone is Uzal. This leaves everyone quite emotional, and to add one more layer to that, Uzal officially signs Clarion’s ownership over to Nene; leaving one perplexed and the other as happy as a pig in mud. Then the cops show up….

A Few Leftover Doll Parts….

I’ve been told Clarion isn’t the main character….not that I really care….

—————————————————————————————————————–

You know, I love a show like this. It doesn’t faff with posing or preening, it get’s on with it, it doesn’t waste time with characterizations that amount to little if anything, and it doesn’t treat a very simple story as if it’s some monumental “epic” that stamps it’s feet and demands the world pay attention. Nope. It gives you LOLi cyborgs being cute and kicking all the ass they need to. Do you like that sort of thing? The come join the fun. You don’t like that sort of thing? Well the door is that way, you might as well see yourself out, as they aren’t changing. On watching this a second time I was taken by how well a two part story set everything up. It suggests, or evokes, depths to be explored, without beating you over the head that a story will be coming. It just carries on and does it. It has a lot of confidence in what it’s able to do, and I feel refreshed about that. I’m looking forward to more…

I’m still confused about the title “Pandora in the Crimson Shell: Ghost Urn”. Did they just want to puts GiTS in the name?

Giant red Tachikoma spotted!! Only it looks like a big dumb version of one.

      RE: Title. I don’t know man, I didn’t do it….

      RE: giant red. Huh?

In the OP, Clarin is riding a supersized red version of a Tachikoma. In the 2 seconds it was shown, didn’t look like it had its own AI.
