Shinmai Maou no Testament Burst – 05: Yep, it’s finally come to pass. Zest joins the group and it couldn’t have happened soon enough! Her contract initiation scene is the most borderline hentai-esque one yet. Those kinds of scenes are especially raunchy when the location is the bathroom. No doubt research was made prior. I see she so lost herself in ecstasy her claws were all along Basara’s back. If she ever made the mistake to dig them in, things would get very painful.

The second half did good by action standards. Mio disobeying warnings to come to the rescue was seen miles away but the girl proves she’s no one to scoff at with the insane show of power. To think she was ready to tear Zolgia apart last season with this ferocity.

I know I’m not the only thinking it but I’ll say it anyway. The whole town where the battle took place screamed Attack on Titan. If that wasn’t already enough, we had giants causing the chaos.

Rukia is sexy in her succubus outfit. Here’s to hoping of never seeing the maid dress again in favor of sticking with it. Though the odds of that are slim.

Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid – 05 [NSFW]: “Weird” doesn’t sum it up enough. This was out of the box and downright bizarre. They call the strain the “Arm Virus”, a person becoming an actual weapon, so I have a hard time seeing Minimi’s particular condition fitting into the factor. I guess from a certain point of view you can call her a weapon if she’s personally causing damage with her own arms and legs.

sorry I had to throw in one Attack on Titan comment somewhere.

I knew it! Looking at the episode’s events, how it was done, I knew someone would eventually throw in an Attack on Titan reference. It’s like a disease. And it will only get worse when the second season arrives. 😛

Valkyrie Drive: it’s official–this anime has taken the giant boobs on many of its characters to a ridiculous extreme. Or maybe it’s to the logical conclusion. Minimi certainly isn’t a Mini-me (sorry, couldn’t resist).

Shomin Sample: Episode 5 was the best so far, making it about as good as an average episode of anime production-wise. I don’t think it’s because I was distracted by an underwear fight, but that’s possible, because the timing on other parts was still subpar, especially Hakua’s taking forever with the riddles.

And then Episode 6 once again dropped the ball. Once again, we get the joke, already. All the cuts are too long, all the situations are dragged out far past the point of being interesting, and leave you with just this feeling of “ok, we get it, can we move on now?” Aika’s hesitance is the main source of this, but all of the scenes fall victim to it. And the show is awful, just atrocious, at expressing clearly what Reika’s mood is. Every mood is “grumpy” or “happy”, there’s no nuance at all, even when there is. We just can’t tell at all.

I will disagree with your take on Hakua and the riddles as I thought they were just fine. This wasn’t really a moment of comedy, but rather the playful nature between the two.

But yeah, they dropped the ball back down the well they found it by the sixth episode.

        I’ve noticed that…

        You’ve hit OVER 9000!!!

      • Highway says:

Even if it was not a moment of comedy, that doesn’t mean that it needs to drag out the way it did. I get what you’re saying, but like everything in the show, they made Hakua’s “thinking about it” go on too long, probably by half.

And I’m realizing that there’s just no cohesive character for Kimito. He’s solely a reactive character, and although that’s probably something close to the norm, he’s never ever in a position where he has to make a decision. So we have no idea what he would actually do in any situation that needs some initiative. It just makes him an even flatter character than most.
