Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma✫Illya 2wei Herz! – 7iebte

2weiherz! 7-2

The Triple Transformation is GO!

Ah well, the good times cannot last forever. It’s time for the Mahou Shoujo to pay their dues. For every scrap of sun, sea, onsen, amusement park, and festival fun, for all the lolicon and fujioshi-baiting, there must be one Big Solid Can of Whuparse…

Broken Illusions…or Monster Mash…

2weiherz! 7-4

Alright Alright Alright! Magical Girls!

So without any further ado, the gang heads straight into action. This is serious Magical Girl business, and they’ve all got the game face going in. Illya is just a touch hesitant, which is essential to her character in many respects, but she knows the game plan like the rest of them. I really love the transportation sequence from one world to the next. In the original manga it was like half a page with some semi-weird looking backgrounds. Silver Link steps up the game, and delivers the moving visual feast with something very inspired by Interstellar. Hey, if your going to steal, steal from a good source. But a few story bits first, as we learn that Bazett had “a sister” break the curse Rin stitched to her last series. This leaves Illya to wonder why Kuro hasn’t done the same….

2weiherz! 7-3

Rin just being the best damn Rin she can be….

But we came for action, and action is on the plate. The battles also plays out much smoother than it does in the manga. I’ve credited Hiroshi Hiroyama a great deal when it comes to cutting down the mainline Fate universe’s excesses (and I have to give him a great deal of credit for character illustration and dialog while I’m at it) and really making them count. But I feel his combat sequences are too basic to communicate the density of a battle. He deals in broad strokes, and that tends to have some of the fine detail become a matter of hit and miss while reading. Silver Link is to be credited for filling in a great deal of those blanks and making the whole of the combat scenes stand out in the most gorgeous way possible.

Binding, Bashing, Biting

2weiherz! 7-5

She is very worthy of this Hammer…

But that’s taking away credit from the source material’s overall pacing and well developed plot break-downs, as the gang really does bring the A Game to the proceedings starting with the manga page. In the past, some of the battles lacked focus, and appeared to be there to fulfill the action quotient. But here, every maneuver had a set-up and resolution. So yeah, take what’s good and make it much better in adaption… I love the attention payed to strategy and the naming conventions given to them. Luvia’s Jormungandr was a great set up to bind the Eighth Card, and Rin’s Thor’s Hammer set up was quite beautiful.

2wei Herz! 7-thorshammer

….heck, all three are worthy…

Our Twin-Tailed Goddess provided the grip, and the team of Illya/Miyu brought the hammer down, crushing the defense. All of it a great set up for Kuro to first person attack it all Final Blow with a wonderfully rendered Excalibur Trace. So now, all that’s left is to collect the card off the smoldering body, right?

2weiherz! 7-6

Cool LOLIs look right at the explosion!

…and that was when it all went pear shaped…

Well, not so fast. This one is no push-over, not even when facing the strongest attacks the team can bear. It’s still as lively as the Onsen OVA, only without the service. It’s the best the gang can do to cut and run while they have the time. This leaves Bazett to make her move, going all crazy and solo for the kill. But this beat is just not hitting the right stride, we knew that this would go much the same way as the three way combo attack went down. It didn’t help matter’s much when Kuro willingly saluted Bazett’s potential Death Flag.

2weiherz! 7-12

“I got better”

But, you can’t keep a good enforcer down, as she always has a few magical tricks up her sleeve. She didn’t go down all the way, but for the sake of combat, she did precious little. But for future plot development, she did the job just fine. Because now we can drop the card name pretense and just call this damn thing Gilgamesh. That was the damn Gate of Babylon after all. Our gang can’t twig to the name just yet, but the audience knows. Here I have to give credit to Hiroshi agian for bringing this one on the scene without that character’s typical “Well, I suppose I could kill you but it’s beneath me” speechifying…I guess it helps matter’s that the past Card’s weren’t the talkative type either.

2weiherz! 7-13

Hands in Pockets is soooo last franchise, man…

So after watching an eight way Bazett shish-ka-bob served up and ready to eat, the rest of the gang play the Run Away game and book it out of there, happy to live and fight another day. But not before Bazett musters up the will to go for the Card at the center of this Monster. She draws, “Archer?”. OoooOooo A Second Archer. Color the gang confused. Also color them frustrated as Gil plays “yoink” on the Card, leaving Baz empty handed. But, Illy and Kuro decide to play the Leave No One Behind card, proving that bravery and friendship are the Magical Girl credos that need to be played up in this situation.

2weiherz! 7-16

Just when Monster Gil is about to play brain surgery without a medical license, the girls Save The Human Monster and try to book it out of the Mirror World toot sweet. The Eighth Card sees a foe worthy of it’s A Game, and pretty much brings out the Biggest Gun Possible. (potential spoiler in the link) Which leads to madness? But more on that next episode.

2weiherz! 7-24

Cause this one isn’t here to bore you to tears for five episodes…

Not quite Hors du Combat…

Show ▼

Looks like someone isn’t taking a hint…

This is the one y’all have been waiting for. So no more complaints, alright? Well, I am going to complain about Ruby’s commentary on the Triple Transformation. Annoying and Unnecessary, that character is best low key. But I know I’ve said it in relation to the Slice of Life elements the show has had so far, but Herz! really learned some lessons from 2wei’s sometimes lack-luster pace in both characterization and combat. This was a Blue Ribbon winner, and it only gets better from here to the conclusion…and it looks like they are going to wrap things up rather nicely for the end of Herz! Since we are out of the anime original territory and into the meat of the manga-proper, it’s going to be pretty much “by the book”, if I’m any guess.

This was a good adaptation of chapters 21 and 22. If I have any real beef outside of the adaptation itself it’s with the editorial end of the work. The choices of Enforcer and Guardian/Observer for the episode titles are just to generic sounding; especially when Broken Illusions and That Which Lies Beneath (being that this and next episode are doing two chapters per) are there for the picking. I kinda know why they picked what they picked, Show ▼

but it’s still bland. But that does’t diminish my enjoyment of a really well made and highly anticipated episode. Oh, yeah, that reminds me, let’s use them spoiler tags where needed folks…

2weiherz! 7-22

Next Episode: Sans Skirt…

2weiherz! 7-23

Yeah, the flying throne makes a comeback, but not in an egregiously stupid way…

Guess it’s safe to come out now that we’re in the action episodes already. And what a treat it was.
From the transformation sequence to getting Gil’s seiyuu, Tomokazu Seki, to just growl and scream the whole episode, to the swordspam to pulling out the Sword of Rupture. It’s perfect.
I sometimes hate the preview though as it’s spoiling the events for the next episode, specifically the joke on Caren’s outfit.

I want to draw Gilgamesh in Grand Order. He’s only available for draw up to the 9th. It’s like he’s asking me to throw money in the game.

    • skylion says:

Yeah, I wish they would have left the skirt joke alone, as the set up and reaction for it isn’t exactly earth-shattering or anything. I took a poke around all the list/cast sites (MAL, etc.) and I can’t see if Tomakazu Seki is really even cast as Gilgamesh this time around. I was thinking that Show ▼

…and it was always safe to be here. SoL Hijinks don’t exactly have sharp edges you know…

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

His VA is already set as per Carnival Phantasm.

      • belatkuro says:

Well, looking at the credits, you can see Tomokazu Seki’s name(関 智一) there, though he’s listed as Black Heroic Spirit, but we all know who this enemy is so there.
And yes, I believe for Show ▼

This leaves Illya to wonder why Kuro hasn’t done the same….

All will be revealled. Next season. 😛 Silver Link spent half their budget here. And the other half in the last episode.

I agree with Ruby: The long awaited TRIPLE naked Transformation.

At last, I finally get to go:

    -GATE-
    -OF-
    -BABYLON!-

Kuro is the LOLi version of GARcher. :3 Broken Phantasms and all. Not even GARcher has the prana to replicate a Broken Phantasm that is Ekusukallyburr. Rin is charging a Wave Motion Cannon. Or Macross Cannon if you want. With a dagger/sword that we all know that killed her father!

Bazett is a hax doodz. Damn hax doodz. But Gilgamesh is TEH HAX of all HAX doodz. Breaks everything; including realities. Bazett’s monologue is exactly the same as the one in standard FSN. “WTF!? At most only 3 Hax doodz! Wait… its just one BIG Borken HAXZ.”

Next week I’m not interested in Caren’s noskirt ass. More interested in how are they going to do the Show ▼

    • skylion says:

You know, I just read ahead in the manga so see how things would break down episode by episode. All I can recall is that you’re spoiler moment in question might just be the sting for the end of next episode. But we’ll see.

  3. BlackBriar says:

Yes, now this is more like it!! Good riddance to the slice of life element occupying the first half of the series. I wanted action and continuation of the card based plot and it did not disappoint. Ruby’s transformation commentary was unnecessary, however. It killed the mood.

Seriously, though. Gilgamesh is infecting this Fate version as well? At least there’s no inane, stuck-up prattling this time around. This whole situation makes for quite a game changer and given the group awe at Bazett’s findings, there’s never been a record of two of the same classes in existence. I’m going to take a stab and assume some new rule has been added in.

Bazett cut it close in her own bout with the card. There’s a difference between confident and reckless. She’s lucky Kuro came to the rescue, otherwise that spear would’ve split her skull in seconds.

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

Moar SoL! MOAR! 😛 Is not a delicious MILF Irisviel not tempting enough? 😛

You cannot escape the Gilgamesh Show ▼

      Completely borken HAXZ D00dz.

      • BlackBriar says:

        Moar SoL! MOAR!

Who are you and what have you done with the real Di Gi Kazune? Will the real one please stand up? 😛

Is not a delicious MILF Irisviel not tempting enough?

One lone beauty is nowhere near enough to suppress the boring dread that is the slice of life genre.

    • skylion says:

That’s not a bad stab, but at this point I’m not going to tell you if you are right or wrong. Warm? Well, you’re closer to the oven than the fridge.

I would cut Bazett some slack for being reckless. It doesn’t matter if the Card comes into her possession or Team Illya at this point, only matter that it’s under control…that was her stab…

  4. Di Gi Kazune says:

MMmm… rewatching that triple transformation sequence in BD glory is delicious meal-gao~!
