Triage X – Series Review [NSFW]

Sex and violence are two things that are rarely if ever lacking in anime.  Some of my personal all time favorite shows are comprised entirely of ludicrous gore and weird sexy stuff.  Following this train of thought you might think that Triage X is the show for me.  It sadly is not.  Triage X might be a Trashy good time, but even Trash needs to have standards (please note the manga Trash does get my A OK).

Shall I compare thee to a piece of trash?

Now lets not lie to ourselves: Triage X is a trashy show.  When I use trash however, please note that is not a statement about the quality of the show.  I love some super trashy shows.  The reason I find Triage unsatisfying is how Triage is kinda mediocre in its Trashiness.  Take the violence in the show.  You have scummy dudes being murdered left and right, but there is often a cutaway so people hoping for some really terrible death won’t be satisfied.  Almost every girl… who am I kidding?  Every girl in this show is supremely sexualised.   I won’t bother commenting on the censorship that much simply because I know someone will bring up uncensored Blu-Rays.  But for a show where I’d generously say 69% of the show is meant to be arousing, there is no actual “action.”  Aside from all the sexual harassment and bondage stuff that happens A LOT.

delete immediatly

Don’t feel to bad, she is horrible when she isn’t gagged too.

Now I won’t make any complaints on a show having, or even focusing on fan service.  My complaint is rather: is it really entertaining to consistently see these girls being tortured and nearly assaulted before the goons are always killed off camera?  Now I forfeited my right to judge when I watched episode 2, but for my personal tastes I find the sexual aspect of Triage un-fulfilling.  As horrible of a work Kite is for instance, you won’t see any detail spared sexually or brutally.  Am I suggesting the people who watched Triage should go out and watch Kite?  Kinda, but mostly I’m saying that Triage won’t satisfy the viewer with its content even in its uncensored version.

No O Face

I’ve talked about why this show doesn’t work for me, but I should at least talk about what the exxxperience of watching the show is like.  Your standard episode consists of the formula of girl gets assaulted, goons get killed, and team medical dragon boobs looks pretty badass.  I will say that some of the shows best moments are when some bad guys show up who can actually put up a fight.   When you have equals in gun play or martial arts against each other, that normally does create a cool scene.

that looks pretty neat

I give this shot my seal of approval

As for the characters, again not too bad.  I actually do like the relationship between Arashi and Mikoto.  The cutesy romance is worth a chuckle, the way that they work together to overcome trauma does work, and those two characters actually get some nice development.  Also Hitsugi has a fanserviceable character arc, her going from random brute strength chick to tragic child experiment is predictable but effective.  All the other characters are one dimensional though.  But being totally honest, this is more than I was even expecting at the start of the show.

And some totally weird stuff

Now this stuff I just have to scratch my head at.  Arashi’s pep talks with his dead friend.  Who Arashi just happens to have all of his limbs and organs.  He’s basically Michiru from Grisia, but doesn’t lose his personality.  The episode were Hitsugi spends the entire time wearing nothing under her jacket (which conveniently covers the nipples) so her whole crotch is blacked out.  The Blu Rays are still gonna censor it anyhow, whats the point of the giant black hole near her crotch?  The entire Idol arc just left we saying huh?  That detective girl is useless for most of the show, then turns out to be a super hacker?  The biggest boob doctor’s hair changes color when she gets serious?  Does it look cool, I honestly can’t explain this one.  I wasn’t expecting any definitive ending from the series, but that entire final episode was an excuse for an 10 minute long bath scene and one mediocre car chase.  There is a whole lot more head scratching stuff in this show, but these things take the cake.  Oh, and this shot

O face

“So this is a woman.  Does not compute”

The conclusive final end summary

This isn’t a show I would recommend to anyone.  If you want tits and gore go watch anything done by Yoshiaki Kawajiri or Kazuo Koike.  Those things are at least committed to being ridiculously violent and sexual.  I’m sure someone with more morals than me will condemn the objectification of women that goes on in this show, and I say let them.  Judging strictly on the scale of was this a fun show to watch, I say meh.  I can’t bring myself to hate Triage, but I also can’t find anything that makes this show worth talking about.  It exists amongst a mountain of better/worse anime that will truly shock and titillate you.  I hope Triage can ride off into the sunset on its motorbike alone and forgotten, but don’t crash into anything on the way there.

Triage X girls: Most likely to get severe upper back pains sometime soon. 😉

Clearly the mangaka was using the “Bigger is ALWAYS better” mentality.

The summary of the summary would be:
Most people would be better off watching actual pointless Hentai anime.

Using the Queen’s Blade as the standard: worse or better than Queen’s Blade?

    • Samsura says:

As a complete package, I guess they are about equal. I will say that queens blade is better at fan service, but I do like the characters in Triage a bit more. These are both shows for people who
like to objectify women but can’t deal with sex.

I’d have to say I thought Queen’s Blade was better, although that doesn’t mean it’s good. It had more of a plot (other than tits) and the characters got more development, other than just in their chests.

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

Heh. ‘Chest development’ vs Character development. Heh. The main male character should have been named Richard, if you get the meaning. 😉

Without a doubt one of the season’s most average shows. The fanservice is there (of course), the main characters are more or less likable but the story leaves much to be desired. The fact the finale left so much unresolved led to that conclusion. To be more specific, Black Label has next to no information on the Syringe organization, who I presume were supposed to be the show’s main antagonist group.

No denying some will argue the series objectifies women but if there’s anything to defend it, it’s that it shows pretty well the main girls can kick ass and hold their own during missions or unforeseeable dangerous situations, especially Hitsugi and the idol girl Oriha. None were pathetic so you couldn’t slap a “damsel in distress” label on a single one.

The last anime I remember that made women a true force to be reckoned with was Jormungand. I’m looking at you, Valmet (Sofia Valmer), Karen and Chiquita.

Side note: I understand an OVA is supposed to be released later on.

  4. HannoX says:

This was strictly a boob show and not a very good one. High School DxD is also a boob show, but at least the characters get some development other than in the chest area. And as for the boobs the female characters have in Triage X–there’s large and then there’s ridiculously large. Most of the female characters here have boobs that are ridiculous and that I for one find a turn-off.

Nor is there any real plot. It’s just a string of “bad guys get killed by Black Label.” Actually there is a plot of sorts–LOOK! HUGE TITS! AND MORE HUGE TITS!

Well, there is Trash, there is garbage, and then there is this show?

I barely made it to the end of the first episode, then never bothered to pick it back up. Did they group ever come to the conclusion that their job “medically” speaking was just “treating symptoms”? Or would that be too much of a stretch for the production?
