50 Things You Didn’t Know About IreneSharda

I am fire! And life incarnate! Who dares to ask the first question?

spring15-irenesOkay, okay, so I promise I won’t burn you if you if you want to ask a question…well, not much anyway. 😀 So, I guess it’s my turn? Well, I guess I don’t mind, this should be fun! Well, what should you know about me? Well, I have kind of written all the main stuff in my bio and intro and all of that, so I won’t reiterate. Instead, I get to write detailed answers to fifty (50?!) various questions. Well, make of this what you will. I will try my best to keep you entertained.

  1. Who is your favorite male anime character?

This was a pretty hard question, there are so many male characters that I think are awesome, from Edward Elric to Lelouch vi Britannia to Sousuke Aizen. However, I think that I will have to split my answer. Because I feel that mecha/space opera characters are a bit different from all other anime characters, I have my favorite mecha male characters, and then my favorite anime male. There are two male mecha characters that have arisen to become my favorite. First, I’m going to go with a classic in my favorite being Casval Rem Deikun, though he is known by most by his infamous alias: Char Aznable from the Gundam UC Era. The second is the guy known as the “One-Man Army”, Mikhail. But he is known to most by his codename, L-Elf, from the Valvrave series.

In terms of non-mecha,  I again have two favorites: Hyoubu Kyousuke from Zettai Karen Children/The Unlimited, and Killua Zoldyk from HunterXHunter/HunterXHunter 2011.

Yep, that was 4 favorites, I don’t call it cheating, I call it “diversifying”. 😛

Killua.Zoldyck.600.1831876-Pictures

Cutest assassin you’ll ever see.

  1. Who is your favorite female anime character?

Honestly, I have less answers here than for the male side. My favorite mecha female character is Artesia Som Deikun, also known as Sayla Mass from the Gundam UC Era. My favorite non-mecha anime female character is Mikasa Ackerman from Attack on Titan.

Both brother and sister make this list, both are beyond awesome!

  1. What is your favorite anime soundtrack?

That would be symphonic soundtrack to HunterXHunter 2011. There are just so many breathtaking tracks there, and I will never forget Reatsu and the Zoldyk theme for as long as I live.

Best Runners-Up: Anything by Hiroyuki Sawano, the Symphony SEED soundtrack album from Gundam Seed/Destiny, and some of the of the soundtracks of Bleach.

  1. What is your favorite anime opening + animation?

Tricky one, I was almost going to go with “Guns & Roses” from Baccano or “Inori~You Raise Me Up~” from Romeo X Juliet, or even “Guren no Yumiya” from Attack on Titan.

But I actually ended up settling with one a little less flashy, and yet full of depth in both the song and the visuals. The opening I’m going with is “Diver” from Naruto Shippuden. The song is simple and yet powerful when you know what it’s saying and the symbolism in the visuals get me every time.

  1. What is your favorite anime ending + animation?

Again, this was hard since, there were so many good ones, but I’m going to go with actually a pretty obscure one from a pretty obscure series. That’s “Daisuki na kimi ni” from Yuki no Joou or The Snow Queen. There is no actual animation to the ending sequence, and instead, it’s artist’s sketches of the main heroine with just a beautifully simple song overlaying it.

  1. What is your favorite anime scene?

There are a lot of extremely great  moments in anime and in Hunter X Hunter 2011, the anime that I have chosen my favorite scene from. This scene isn’t the most well known in the series, and there probably are some that are more deep or profound, but the scene between Gon, Killua and Neferpitou in the second half of Episode 116 “Revenge x And x Recovery”, was so striking, so pulling, so raw. The radical change of Gon from who he normally is, to this broken, emotional, rage-induced wreck, was one that I won’t ever forget.

  1. If you could meet an anime character, who would it be?

If I could, I would like to meet Sophie and Howl from Howl’s Moving Castle. They two are so interesting and fun, and I would love to ask about their castle and all their adventures.

  1. What anime character is similar to you in terms of personality?

Well, I guess I’ll go with the one that I chose as my avatar, Princess Yona from Akatsuki no Yona. I chose her, because like her, sometimes I’m a little naive and quite sheltered (though less so as I’ve gotten older). I’ve carried myself with the bearing of princess since my dad started calling me that, and I’ve grown from being a little introverted and shy, to being more outgoing, but perceptive, more outgoing, and even fierce when the need calls for it.

  1. What is your favorite thing about anime?

The stories and the characters and the feeling that anything can happen. It’s not as bound as many Western cartoons (though I really enjoy those too), and there are things that I can enjoy from when I was a kid to now as an adult.

  1. What is your least favorite thing about anime?

The constant cliches and archetypes, and the fact that finding a good well-rounded female character is far and in between, especially in an action series.

  1. Who is your favorite anime couple?

That would have to go to Rintarou Okabe and Kurisu Makise (or Hououin Kyouma and Christina, if you prefer LOL). Not even coming from a romance anime, the romance that develops between the two main characters of Steins;Gate have some of the most extensive development and relationship building that I have seen in an anime ever. A couple of scientists that started off getting on each other’s nerves, but develop a close and complex relationship that crosses both space and time and reality. One not built on the simple or superficial, I haven’t come across an anime yet that has had a romance fleshed out to this extent. It was one of those series where instead of waiting impatiently for the couple to just get together already, you were happy to see them just talk and spend time together.

  1. Who is your favorite anime animal?

All the “animals” of Fruits Basket. There’s just something about the way their eyes are drawn and how simply they are shaped that just make them so adorable. Plus their characters and backstories just make you want to take them all into your arms even more. 🙂

fruits-basket

Look at them….they’re animals!

  1. What anime would make a good game?

Well, most anime that I would have become a game, actually already have. Bleach, the Gundam series, and Yu Yu Hakusho all have games already. I can’t really think of any others, other than maybe HunterXHunter, but that probably already has a game too.

  1. What game would make a good anime?

I don’t play many games, but honestly, one that I would beg to become a full-fledged anime series is Final Fantasy VII. I’ve seen the OVA, Last Order, and they could honestly do something awesome if they just animated the entire thing.

  1. What was the first anime you ever watched?

There are two that I actually watched in tandem with each other when I was only 4 years only and didn’t even know what anime was. These two both came out in the 80s and were called Anime Oyako Gekijou (and its sequel, Personal Computer Travel Tanteidan) and Tondera House no Daibouken. I knew them better by their Americanized titles: Superbook (and Superbook 2) and The Flying House.

  1. Do you ever think you’ll stop watching anime?

I’ve stopped before, and I’ll probably stop at some point again, but I’ve also come back to it before and I think I will do so again.

  1. What is your favorite genre of anime?

Mecha/Space Opera, Adventure/Action, Fantasy/Sci-Fi, and Romance, I love all of these equally, so it’s hard for me to pick just one.

  1. What is your least favorite genre of anime?

Sports, Horror, or anime about “cute girls doing cute things”. I find that either I can’t stomach them or they bore me beyond belief.

  1. Are you open to watching anime with people you know?

Sure, all my family and friend know, I’m not as open with people I don’t know or just average acquaintances unless I see that they have an interest in anime as well.

  1. Have you ever been to Japan?

No, I haven’t but it’s one of the places on my list to visit one day. I love to travel but haven’t been able to travel out of the country yet. Japan would be the first place in Asia, I’d want to visit.

  1. What anime was the biggest let down for you?

The biggest let down for me, has to be the recent Aldnoah.Zero. I’ve never been so pissed off at the ending of series (anime or otherwise) more than that one. I think the biggest issue was that I was so invested in the characters and what was going on and my expectations became too high. The finale was such a big letdown and made me so furious that I couldn’t even watch the subbed version. I had such a visceral reaction to it that it practically affected me physically. Some have said that the beginning or ending of a series can make or break it. I never really saw the truth to that, until Aldnoah.

  1. What anime was better than expected?

Honestly, there are a lot of series that end up being better than I had thought. Most of them being shounen series for some reason. I thought FMA looked boring, Bleach wasn’t my thing in the beginning, and it took force to get me to see HunterXHunter. However, in the end, FMA became one of my favorite anime of all time, Bleach ended up being one of my favorite long-standing shounen series for years and giving me my favorite anime villain of all time, and HunterXHunter was just great on many levels. In fact, I often find that series that I seem to take the most dislike to by just seeing the cover, I end up being some of my favorites.

  1. What is the best anime fight scene?

My favorite anime fight scenes are often the ones that really are over before they’ve begun. I’m not one to really enjoy constant back and forth moves and constantly flying fists, and such. I can never watch a series like Dragonball Z, as the fights take much too long. For some reason, the story in shounen series can pull me over, that I do enjoy the fights, even if some of them take way too long. However, I mostly enjoy fights that are either fights of the mind (ones that involve a test of strategy or tactics) or ones where the odds are so overwhelming that the other side should just give up. For example, most fights that Aizen is in. The man in super intelligent and beyond OP, and I love OP characters (as long as they’ve got a sharp mind to go along with that power).

So, the fight I picked, if you even want to call it that, is the “fight” between Gon and Neferpitou in episode 130-131 of HunterXHunter, “Anger x And x Light”. This was the best moment in the entire series, and the very atmosphere, the tone, the music, having seen Gon go from being the most happy-go-lucky kid in the world, to this moment where he was literally shattered, and what happens after that. It will make you cheer, but it will also make you bawl like a babe. It’s more than a fight, it’s much more powerful and meaningful than that.

Runner’s Up: Mustang vs Envy from FMA: Brotherhood

  1. Who is your anime waifu husbando?

Hmm, I never really thought about such things before, but after having thought it over, I came up with actually two candidates:

The first is rather recent, being Narsus of Arslan Senki. One of the major attractants for me has always been a man’s intelligence and how well he can utilize it. But on top of that, I’m at the point in my life where I prize stability and safety over the stereotypical “cool guy” or “bad boy”. Narsus is indeed incredibly intelligent and is an incredible fighter, but he also has no problem with settling down, and he can support a family well. Also, another major attractant for me is long hair, and Narsus, both the blond-haired/violet-eyed (2015) and the brown-haired/brown-eyed (1991) version are visually pleasing.

The second, I’m actually leaning more towards, is anime’s favorite husband and father, Maes Hughes from Fullmetal Alchemist/FMA Brotherhood. Good-looking, charming, funny, stable career, and intelligent enough to figure out a nation-wide plot months before any other character in the series, Maes would be a catch for any girl. And on top of that, he’s incredibly loyal, will help out anyone in need, and would desire nothing more than to be there for his family, I’d take him as mine any day. 😉

  1. What was your favorite video game as a child?

I’ve never been a gamer, now or when I was a child, however, there have been a couple that I have enjoyed playing, including PS1 Tekkan and X-Men Mutant Academy 2.

  1. Most embarrassing moment?

When I was very young, I was playing at a play center that my dad took me too. I was done on the slides and went to go find him. I saw a man talking to another guy that I mistook for my father, and ran up to him and hugged his leg yelling his name. Yet, the man looked down at me, and it wasn’t my dad. I was so shocked and embarrassed, I ran off, though I almost went into tears a few moments later thinking I had lost my dad somewhere and I didn’t know what to do. But thankfully, he found me a few minutes later. I’ve never forgotten that moment, even though it has to have been more than twenty years now.

  1. Can you drive or own a car?

I am rather proud of the fact that I can drive, as it took me a while to learn. I however, as of yet do not have my own car, though I pretty much have free reign of my mother’s.

  1. Are you mature?

I like to think so.

  1. What year were you born?

I was born the year of the dragon, in 1988.

  1. Do you prefer cats or dogs?

I’ve never had either, but I actually would enjoy both. I would one day like to get one of each as a pet.

  1. Describe yourself physically.

Well, let’s see. I’m tall for a girl at 5’10. I’m not slender, but I’m not fat either. I have a full figure. My skin in the color of cappuccino, and I have mid-length brown hair and brown eyes.

  1. What would you name your first child?

If a girl, my first picks for names are either Artesia or Aurelia. I loved both of those names, they are so beautiful and I like the meanings of them. For a boy, my first picks are Halcyon or Gabriel.

  1. What is the worst injury you’ve ever had?

When I was in the 8th grade, I was watching The Terminator in the den of my house and as I was walking in, I stubbed my toes hard on the leg of a hassock that was there, the pain was horrible, but I thought nothing of it since I’d stubbed my toe before. Unfortunately for me, I was clumsy that day and then latter stubbed it again upstairs in my bedroom. It hurt for weeks and finally I went to the doctor and found out through x-ray that I had broken both my second and third toes and they hadn’t healed at all in all those weeks. I was a dancer at the time and that had exacerbated the situation. I had my toes wrapped and had to stay off my foot for a while while they healed. Even today, cold weather will actually make the bones in my toes ache.

  1. What is your worst habit?

That has to be my habit of procrastination. I constantly have a lack of motivation to get things done and will always think of something else to do instead. I’m trying to get better, but it’s a hard battle.

  1. Do you drink or smoke?

I don’t smoke, never having a desire to. Plus a childhood bout with pneumonia and a later onset of asthma would never let me anyway. I don’t drink really. I have tried some things here and there, but for the most part no, not even socially.

  1. Do you have a tattoo?

No, I can’t even stand immunization needles, I can’t even fathom doing that. Plus, in my opinion, tattoos are more trouble than they’re worth.

  1. Are you a morning person or a night person?

I’m more of a night person, though I can get up early when I need too. However, it’s rare that I go to bed before midnight or later.

  1. Have you ever slept past midday?

Of course, especially if I’ve been up all night writing papers or reading a good novel. Also of course when I’m sick.

  1. Do you regret anything?

Of course, I’m human and I’ve made some bad choices and didn’t have things turn out the way I wanted them to in my life, but in the end, I’m happy with my life and what it can be going forward.

  1. Can you count the number of friends on one hand?

I have a few acquaintances and associates, but if you mean actually friends, I don’t have that many. I have one best friend, and a couple of distant ones, and I consider my brother, mother, dad, and cousin are as close as friends as well.

  1. Do you wear glasses?

Yes, it’s practically genetic. Everyone in my family wears glasses except a couple of the guys who married into the family.

  1. Are you a picky eater?

Nope, I love trying new things all the time. As long as the food isn’t celery, black licorice, or knowingly have any sort of insect or arachnid in it, I’ll eat pretty much anything.

  1. Would you die for someone?

Yes, my faith or my family, without question.

  1. If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

I would like to be able to manipulate space, time, and reality. I could have more hours to get what I want to get done in a day, I can go anywhere I want, and change anything to fit my liking. Would it be a little selfish? Yeah, but hey, it’s my superpower. 😀

  1. Do you believe in the supernatural?

If you mean, do I believe in a world beyond our own? Yes, I do. I have not been shy about my status as a Christian, and my faith is pretty important to me. So, yes, of course I believe in the things of the Spirit.

  1. Would you rather be rich or famous?

Rich, I have no need for fame being a rather private person anyway. However, I can always use money.

  1. Have you ever committed a crime?

Well, I unfortunately am not perfect. I have jaywalked before, ran a couple of stop signs and red lights on accident, and I do go over the speed limit often. But other than that? No, not really.

  1. Pirates or Ninjas? Ghost or time traveler?

Ninjas. Time traveler.

  1. Does someone have a crush on you?

Not that I know of at the moment.

  1. Are you in a relationship?

Nope, I’ve never been in a relationship, though when the right time and man comes, I’ll be welcome to the idea.

header-spring15-irenes

Well, that will be that. Whoo! That was a lot to get through. So many questions, and only a few of them easy. I had to actually cheat diversify, when it came to those “favorite” questions. However, I had fun, and I know you guys will have fun in the comments as well. If you have anything to say, I won’t strike you down with phoenix flame, but I reserve the right to change my mind. 😛

So, personal information on my fellow vampiro aficionado, eh? Nice! Enchanté, mademoiselle! And I don’t mind getting burned as long as it’s deemed worth it.

Surprised to not see Sesshoumaru on your list of favorite male characters. The last time he was spoken of, it seemed in a fond manner.

Well, Final Fantasy VII is getting remade for PS4 after a confirmation from E3 2015 so that’s probably the closest to animation possible anyone will get. With voicing acting being a must, we can expect to talents of Takahiro Sakurai/Steve Burton as Cloud and Toshiyuki Morikawa/George Newbern as Sephiroth again after the work they did with Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.

How’d you manage to stop watching anime at one point? I think it’s become something not easy to detach from one you’ve started. An addictive drug in its own way, if you will.

Hmmm… my character is stricken with procrastination as well. It takes quite a bit of effort to shake off unless there’s something that really motivates you to move.

A night owl, too? Wow. Other than needing to, I think what wakes a person up after sleeping so late is when there’s a bright light in the room.

Speaking of novels, I see this post is devoid of talk on vampire romance novels. Care to explain yourself? 😛

Agreed on the preference of being rich over famous. In my opinion, the latter draws too much unwanted attention, especially if it’s a person who prefers to keep to themselves. I remember reading a magazine article a number of years back. Brad Pitt would take to court anyone who took pictures of him unrelated to his career on the pretext of invasion of privacy. So unless he’s on the red carpet, leave him in peace.

I do love Sesshi, but I really had to chose a favorite, and I had to think about personality and ideals and things like that in regards to the character as well. And while Sesshoumaru is awesome, his personality is not as well defined. But he’s still one of my favorites.

I am sooo happy! 😀 FFVII is one of the very few games that I have actually played all the way through. I was so very excited to see it getting a remake and I will definitely be getting that whenever Square Enix finally comes out with it. Though, I still would love an anime too. That would be really great to see.

How’d you manage to stop watching anime at one point? I think it’s become something not easy to detach from one you’ve started. An addictive drug in its own way, if you will.

School. I didn’t follow the seasons when I made the transition from high school to college, and when all of my friends who were into anime moved away, and I got so busy and life got complicated and I just couldn’t find a show I wanted to watch, it was a lot of things. Plus I had the weird idea that maybe I had outgrown it or something.
I got back into it on a whim after my brother admitted that he had gotten back into it after having also left for a year or so, and I decided to see what was out that season. I found a show that interested me (The Unlimited), became more interested in the blogging scene and before I knew it, I was back into it again. And this time it was even better than the first time. I enjoy following the seasons a lot more and usually I can find at least one series that I want to follow.

Speaking of novels, I see this post is devoid of talk on vampire romance novels. Care to explain yourself?

Well, that’s easy, there were no questions on what kind of novels I like. 😛 Also, I really do need to find another new group of romance novels to read. Unless you get the really well written ones, you basically get the same old cliches written over and over again. I was reading Christine Feehan (the vampire romance series), but I’m on the look out for something new since her series got boring the last few years.
So far, I’ve been depending on fanfiction to satisfy my reading needs (and believe me, there is some better written fanfiction than some of the novels out there).

It shall need to be official: The three of us can form the Procrastinating Vampiric Faction.

  2. Samsura says:

Now this is very important: if you weren’t a christan do you think superbook or the flying house would have been able to convert you?

    • IreneSharda says:

Hmm, well that’s a very hard question to answer since at the time I was raised to be a Christian by my parents and later made my own decision while I was in the later half of high school. For Superbook and Flying House alone to be able to convert anyone? Well, if God wanted to work though those series and they resonated with you, then yes I guess they could. It all depends on the individual. For me, it was more of a moral support when I was very young that worked in conjunction with what I was taught by words and example from my family, church, and school.

      • Samsura says:

You put a lot more thought into answering this question than was necessary. Since I’m Jewish, the only anime I can use that shows a Jewish message is Riki-Oh. Though maybe, just maybe, Riki-oh isn’t going to convince people to convert.

  3. Overcooled says:

I read the HxH manga and I was always curious how they animated the more intense scenes of the Chimera Ant arc (but was too lazy to go and watch it all). Thanks for putting some of the best parts here!

  4. Di Gi Kazune says:

Wheee…. *reads it off the second monitor while typing it on the other computer*. I would have done this earlier except GalCiv3 was being an addictive nuisance.

I don’t call it cheating, I call it “diversifying”.

Certain Jedi call this “From a certain point of view.”

..that anything can happen. It’s not as bound as many Western…

Avatar Series. The proper one. Not the lame sci-fi thingy. It basically boils down to the demographics they’re aimed for. I practically would not watch doraemon. Hell, I never DID even have any interest in doraemon when I was in that demographic. Frankly speaking,… umm… I think I should stop it now before this paragraph turns into a thesis.

The constant cliches *snip* well-rounded female character

Cliches are everywhere you look and not only just in anime. Well-rounded (for all you pervs, we’re not talking about THAT *ROUNDED*) female characters are practically non-existant few and far… *insertchoiceofyourownword(s)here* to find practically considering (again) the demographics and the patriachal Japanese society. It is trending towards it but slowly. On the flipside, you have Western overkill. Will not go into a thesis here.

    “animals” of Furuba.

We all know what we are getting into here. *abandons reply*

    game to anime

FFVIII in terms of story would make a better angsty one since it would be like any kyoani SoL show. Wait, I take that back and eat those words with sauce. VI would be better plus the added bonus of NOT being like any kyoani SoL show. This having played IV to VIII. VII was the first of a new generation of FF and does have its merits. *waves both copies of VII and VIII*

    And:

Final Fantasy VII is getting remade for PS4

Does not count. We all know that PC is the master race. 😛

Re: choice of genres – You’re an oddity for an XX considering what I’ve gathered from here so far. 😛 Wait, I’ve now read 19. NOW THAT is definately an oddity. Cute girls doing cute things usually is neutral… That said, you, BB and I would be able to sit together and chose a show quickly.

    20. Japan, nice to visit. Expensive to stay. Nice things exist there. Shinkansen zoomzoom. I plan to hopefully do Kagoshima to Shin-Aomori on a JRpass one day. Just because. Also, the Hokkaido extension won’t be ready until the 2030s. Hokkaido #1! In Winter. (As you can see from my Japan Trip blogpost.) That said, you’re talking to someone who thinks Antarctica is a nice place to visit. In Winter.

    21. Do Not Want To Talk About That Show.

Re: Husbando – Are you loyal to your husbando? 😛 I will say this, the majority dump their waifus after a few seasons for a new one. FYI, mine has always been only one, No. 1 since the beginning. :3

    29. Horse Etotama is still better. >_>

    34. Procrastication – Welcome to the club. *goesbacktoprocrastinating* History Monks would love you.

37&38. Hello Vampire Friend. Mornings were a terrible invention. Should be uninvented so that the day starts after 12pm.

And now, for the other counter-replies.

Re: romance novels – No Anne Rice? 😛 Granted most of her good stuff were written before she returned to the Faith. And please, say no Twilight. *shudders*

Now, if you excuse me, I have to go comfort Sesshie-sama who’s crying in the corner for some odd reason…

I’ve only visited Tokyo on a week-long free and easy trip, so I’ll give advice on visiting there:
    – Learn to read some kanji and speak a little Japanese. There’s an assumption in some areas (especially non-touristy areas) that everyone will be able to speak and understnd Japanese.

    – The subway and JR are the cheapest way to go around Tokyo. Only take a taxi if there’s no other choice.

-Staying in Shinjuku will give you a lot of access to nightlife, young people and somewhat affordable food all night long, but watch out for touts, drunks and occasional bar fights. Staying in Ginza is more expensive and shops close earlier, but the area is very genteel and high-class. I never felt any danger walking down a quiet Ginza street at night.

-Akihabara is only a few stops down the JR from Ginza on their Green Line loop. Also look up the Animate shop in Ikebukuro.

The former is pretty much the “rags and tatters” of any entertainment industry. Oh, how the cliches sell…

And as for the later? Until women can carve out more spots in the industry….well, it’s something that should be automatic, especially in science-fiction and fantasy….
