Punchline – 02

punchline (2)

Episode two of punchline! Now with more birds.

Welcome back to another exciting episode of Punchline! Yes this is one of three shows that I plan on doing minitalks with Skylion for the season and to our surprise this was not a superhero themed episode, but instead it focused on the characters this time.

The Cat needs a blue ribbon across the chest.

    *hides*

  2. Rathje says:

The episode had it’s good moments. But I’ll be honest, halfway through it, I wondered where the plot went and “are we done yet?”

It’s like they did a character expo dump all in one episode – which isn’t usually a great idea (better to spread it out). It was a jarring contrast from the first episode, and I have to say, I found this episode kind of boring.

    • skylion says:

I’ll go along with expo, but it was a drop here and there, not a dump.

      • Rathje says:

I guess. But it felt kind of like that episode on Idolm@ster Cinderella where they tried to do something charming and in-character with each of the girls and it ended up feeling forced and routine.

Besides. This is an action show. And there was no action in this episode. Not a good choice for this genre.

    • Foshizzel says:

Well at least they got the character focus on these two girls out of the way instead of pushing it to Ito getting a solo episode so this works better now they can focus on the real story hopefully.

  3. BlackBriar says:

Second episode in and still this show hasn’t done well to impress. The entire run felt lagging as though all available ideas were already used up and just throwing in random things to hold attention, done quite badly, I might add and I couldn’t keep track or make sense of anything with motivation leaving bit by bit. The pigeon head thing completely eluded my understanding.

Ultimately, I was left really bored and somewhat annoyed that the 23 minutes felt like they couldn’t finish soon enough. Overall, this goes in as a second strike at failing to please.

    • skylion says:

..as we talked about in the ‘cast, I gave some distance to the Random Bits that went on. It felt like an in-joke, something very much the Japanese level of watching television daily.

…as for not being able to keep track? I got nuttin’. I followed along quite easily…

…as for not being able to keep track? I got nuttin’. I followed along quite easily…

To each their own, I guess. For me, it’s like they’re trying too hard to be funny. As though 90% of their attempts are forced. Much like the girl making excuses to cover the fact she’s harboring a baby bear. I’ll admit that it is cute.

Side note: YES! 9500 comments attained! Only 500 more before the Holy Grail is in my possession!

        • skylion says:

…isn’t the tale of the Holy Grail more cautionary than celebratory? Regardless, keep on truckin’!

          • BlackBriar says:

1200 comments give the rank of “Meta Resident”, 2000 gives a blank (Di Gi Kazune’s current position), 3000 and up is “Meta Team” so I wonder what 10000 will yield.

            • skylion says:

You will be beyond the veil known by most mortals. This horizon might lead to a land of fertile promises. I could not venture as guess, as I feel it would lead to dashed hopes. Shine on brave spirit!

…or you could get a fat lot of nuttin’ PFFFFFFFFT!

…or a pie in the face! Save some for the rest of us, ya hear!?

            • BlackBriar says:

Then quake with fear, you mere mortals! 😀

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

I am a spy! Hidden behind the veil of nothingness!

Also, the Holy Grail has been corrupted. All you will get is a flood of corrupted mud! (Also needs a core) The last win the Holy Grail was… -Spoilers-

    • Foshizzel says:

I guess if this series had a vampire it would improve it huh? Just kidding, but just like Skylion I followed it fairly easy because it was about Ito and Rabura’s pasts and WHY they are acting the way they are now.

The pigeon mask thing was as Skylion said a Japanese joke so yeah of course were not going to laugh, but I understood it as their way to cheer up Rabura who was depressed and down on herself.

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

I guess if this series had a vampire it would improve it huh?

To quote certain peoples: YES. DEFINATELY.

        Said peoples shall remain nameless.

  4. HannoX says:

This is clearly the kind of over-the-top show that will be throwing lots of silly, off-the-wall, random things at the viewer along with any plot it may develop. While that could quickly get old if the show doesn’t go anywhere, for now I’m enjoying it and will make it past three episodes.

    • skylion says:

I like how they are weaving in the off-the-wall stuff with some neat little plot and character drops here and there. And rewatching the show brings more stuff out, which is hard to claim for shows that really chiefly on crazy antics.
