That episode of cross ange is somehow a well executed one. and hopefully that will do it right again in the next episode, but the again i fear they will be more harsh drama and…UGH…”Sexual Jokes” in the next episode…I doubt it…

as for that Gundam: Hmmm…do i see some another uh…Devil Gundam Reincarnate or something?!

    • Foshizzel says:

Yeah Ange is getting somewhat better well I can’t say much about this episode because it was more on the slow side since all of the characters were stuck on the sub for 90% of the episode.

Possibly! That dragon was three SD Gundam’s stuck together, but hey why not.

      • BlackBriar says:

The turtle-like pacing is easy to overlook as it was a means of getting up to speed on what was going on while Ange, Tusk and Vivian were in the other dimension.

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

By your Gundams combined, I am Cross (a very very CROSS) Ange!!!

couldn’t resist making the mad/cross joke.

  2. Di Gi Kazune says:

All is going as I have forseen. It was I who allowed you to challenge me Count Marylwhatever. – Emperor Slaine.

That is a guaranteed Death Flag.

    • BlackBriar says:

That high born brat is bound to get his ass handed to him on a plate.

If anyone’s still watching Gundam G, the anime’s website is accepting fan questions for director Yoshiyuki Tomino until this Feb 16 midnight.

Click the yellow box for the question submission. If you want to know what creative direction is brewing inside old man Tomino’s head, now is the time to ask.

    • Foshizzel says:

Sweeeeeet! I would ask him WTF is with the storyline? I am so lost and I generally like Gundam plots…

      • Irenesharda says:

Weirdly, it was beginning to make sense the last 3-4 episodes, but it went right back to nonsensical again, so perhaps Tomino took a week’s break and someone else took over for the writing for that short time? I wish they would get him back… 🙁

  4. skylion says:

A.Z. This felt like a 5 car pile up of plot points. It looks like it needs some serious time to unwind. Rayet still feels like a clumsy insertion most of the time; hey we need something crazy to happen, outsider Rayet should do this….

  5. skylion says:

Ange The characterization of Jill. I know she has been seeking power all this time, but the megalomaniac shift felt out of character.

    Vivian has a fan-club! Yay!

    • Highway says:

I actually didn’t think it was too much of a megalomania. It was more of a monomania: she is going to take down Embryo no matter what, no matter who she has to take out, no matter who she has to use, use up, step on or over, or throw away. Her life is dedicated to that point, and she’s stuck on that. It was a very Sunrise kind of characterization, but I didn’t think it was actually a shift in characterization. I didn’t see her as really wanting to boot out Embryo and the others and put herself in position (although she may have said that, I can’t recall clearly) except because that way she can be sure things go the way she wants.

Maybe that’s a bit favorable to her (although I don’t know how she could be considered in much of a favorable light), but that’s how it felt to me.

I liked how Vivian was on board with Tusk and Ange right away. I even think Hilda would be on board with Ange, rather than Jill. I thought Hilda’s objections to Ange’s plan were born more from her sullenness at being left behind by Ange than by disagreeing with her.

I actually really like the shower scene (and not for THAT reason, sukebe!) for how it portrayed Hilda. She’s really become one of the most sympathetic characters in the show for me. In spite of all her big talk, she’s hugely vulnerable, and has moved what she thinks of as love, even if it’s just an attachment, from Zola to Ange. For her, Ange has taken a place similar to Zola, someone who is powerful, and isn’t going to take crap from others. And Hilda just wants someone to seem like they care for her, but not in the subservient way that Chris and Rosalie did.

      • skylion says:

I’ve always thought the character dynamics were the show’s strongest points, it’s good to see they’ve, well evolved isn’t the right word, but have shifted and shown different facets…

        • Highway says:

Maybe that’s why I like the show so much. The characters are pretty well done and play off each other well. And they at least feel authentic to me. They act the way that these people, with the things they’ve shown, would presumably act in these sorts of situations. That doesn’t mean they’re set in stone. They change all the time, sometimes in huge amounts. Ange has gone from a stuck-up princess who expects everyone to revere and obey her to a stuck up self-starter who expects everyone to screw her over. She’s now starting to learn that there are people who are in the middle, who aren’t going to screw her over, and that she can actually trust to do what they say they are going to do. She treats them fairly, and they’ll treat her the same way.

      • HannoX says:

I agree with your characterization of Jill. Embryo is her Moby Dick and like Capt. Ahab she’ll destroy everyone and everything around her in order to kill him. Unfortunately, like Ahab she can get people to follow her in her obsession. We’ll see if she also leads her followers to destruction.

        • BlackBriar says:

Blind obsession combined with rage is detrimental to a person’s health. It leads to self-destruction and that of others around them.

          • HannoX says:

Well, that was the moral of Moby Dick.

            • skylion says:

No…the moral of Moby Dick was earn as much per word as possible and make existentialism a pain and a half to understand…

            • BlackBriar says:

A moral people would do well to learn and keep in mind.

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

In this case it’s More Dick. 😛

            • HannoX says:

@Skylion: Considering Moby Dick was a commercial failure in the 19th C. and Melville made very little money off it, the first part of your moral is clearly wrong. The second part may be right.

            • skylion says:

Ah, yes, but the contract was still signed, the effort still there. The rest is just down to cases….

  6. zztop says:

Ange: Who does Ange’s character designs? Is it a famous mangaka or illustrator?

  7. BlackBriar says:

Aldnoah.Zero: I know Inaho’s sister means well with wanting to protect him and but frankly, I find she’s smothering him as though he’s incapable of doing anything himself which is the complete opposite, especially when she’s seen his prowess first hand. Plus, she lets her emotions get the best of her too often and they cloud her judgment. Asseylum gave Inaho Aldnoah energy to power the Deucalion, so his own reasons aside, how can she expect him not to be needed when the ship is involved in operations? He’s not a kid anymore.

With deceit and under-the-table alliances flying around, I can’t wait to see how these events will unfold. The interrogation of Mazuurek was, in my opinion, double sided. He was gathering info out of Inaho as much as Inaho was doing the same with him.

Marylcian, picking a fight with Slaine, is surely biting off more than he chew. Underestimating an enemy will you your life and I guess he wasn’t impressed with everything he did in Tharsis thus far. Most of all, his ignorance knows no bounds. Discriminating Slaine for being Earth-born. Obviously the brat forgot where all of Vers originated from.

    • skylion says:

I know Inaho’s sister means well with wanting to protect him and but frankly

I think the attitude she displays is quite interesting. She’s failing in her mission focus, of course, but her intent is something that shouldn’t be easily brushed away. But as Fosh points out, having this come to a head the way it did was clumsy.

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

As I have alluded to above, Slaine is the fellow in a hooded cloak sitting on a throne on board his spacestation, cackling at glee at how MerylStreep has tripped all the traps.

And I would approve of it as it would be how I would do things if I were in his position. Interestingly, Asseylum would be completely appalled at what Slaine is doing if she were not in the Matrix. And then it would end up like a certain scene on Mustafar.

“She has lost the will to live…”

      😛

      • BlackBriar says:

And then it would end up like a certain scene on Mustafar.

Hahaha, you can’t help yourself with anything Star Wars related, can you? Yep, Padmé destroyed by the fact the one she knew no longer existed and what standing before was corrupted by power.

        • Di Gi Kazune says:

          Of course.

Only 4 people knew what happened at the end of last season and not all of them knew everything. Of the 2 that knew everything, one is dead and the other is manipulating events. Of the other two, one thought the other died when really she is now in the Matrix. All 4 knows the current situation is a farce.

I cannot wait to see what happens when Asseylum gets out of the Matrix. “Asseylum, you are The One.”

          • BlackBriar says:

One of the things in my mind that will happen when Asseylum wakes up is that she’ll feel conflicted.

      • Irenesharda says:

You know what’s interesting is that in a recent interview, the director said that he did use a classic icon as inspiration for Slaine’s current character (and sorry, it wasn’t Emperor Palpatine 😛 ). He actually drew inspiration from, surprisingly, Michael Coreleone, and the Vers counts like the Mob. Now, I’ve never seen the Godfather trilogy, so I don’t know what points travel over, but it’s an interesting fact to find out. 🙂

    • Irenesharda says:

I don’t know, I can really understand Yuki’s feelings. She saw her brother with a whole through his eye and brain, and a puddle of his own blood. She had to wrap him up and drag his blood soaked body to the ship’s bridge. A boy that she almost saw die. This was a boy she basically raised since their parents were killed during Heaven’s Fall (which happened a few months after Inaho’s birth)on her own. She is both sister and mother to him. Seeing him like that scarred her and I would absolutely expect this kind of response from her. In fact, I would be surprised if she didn’t react like that. It’s only been a year and a half since he was shot. She sat and stayed with him for months during surgery, recovery, and rehab. For him to go out there again after all that? It’s very hard for her, and even though what he says makes sense to him, it doesn’t to her. It’s not about him not being a kid anymore, it’s about a woman who basically almost had the boy who is basically her son almost die in her arms, and then tell her that he doesn’t need her anymore before going right back out there to possibly get killed again. I don’t know if it’s because I’m a woman and I have two younger brothers that I also look out for, but I can understand how she feels. Inaho might have gotten over the experience (mostly because he was unconscious the entire time) but she was awake for the entire thing. She is haunted by that nightmare and because they have been separated from each other for a long time and the war is still raging, she has never had any time to heal from that. She’s instead turned to liquor and avoiding anyone from the Deucalion, because she can’t take those memories.

  8. BlackBriar says:

Cross Ange: Hardly shocking that Hilda would start wanting Ange. Despite what says about him, I think she’s beginning to develop an interest in Tusk. If so, maybe a threesome will be optional. 😉

Jill was making me cringe with her ludicrous plan. Winning a battle is in itself empty if everyone dies in the process. She needed a reality check so I’m glad Ange finally put her in her place. And the comeuppance can essentially be seen as overdue payback after what Jill did to her in the first episode because that was beyond harsh.

    Aldnoah:

    The plot thickens…

So, Inaho’s plan is to use Count Mazaruuk as a spy while inside Vers. He’s wants to rescue the princess and find out what Slaine is up to. Unfortunately, Asseylum is in a coma and hanging on by dear life and therefore is unable to be rescued as of right now. Mazaruuk is going to probably try to become allies with Slaine and get his trust in order to find out what happened. However, for a guy that gets led around so easily, I have a feeling that Slaine will outsmart him eventually.

However, right now, Slaine is having to deal with annoying factors on both sides, including Lemrina wanting to assert her own authority after being taunted by some provoking words by an evil count, and the fact that that same count, Count Marylcian, just can’t stand some filthy Terran be in a position of power, and so he foolishly challenges Slaine to a duel.

Now you know that guy is setting himself up to die, so I have no fears for Slaine. I’m wondering more as to what will happen with the Mazaruuk angle and if Inaho and Slaine can find some common ground. Does Mazaruuk completely trust Inaho? Will he talk to some of the other counts about this? The guy doesn’t seem to be the brightest bulb in the box.

Inaho doesn’t know about Slaine’s plan, and his main objective is to rescue the princess, but there is so many things going on that have to deal with that. There is also the fact that Lemrina is becoming a handful and will become dangerous to his plans in the long run if she continues to want to be in her sister’s footsteps rather than in her shadow.

We also get some interesting things going on with the Earth side, the reunion of Inaho and Yuki doesn’t go so well, but I can understand where both characters are coming from. There seems to be a spark between Marito and Darzana. Rayet and Inaho have some good chemistry as she again has to deal with her Martian roots and her hatred for them and herself. Even Inko has a bit going on, with the fact that she knows what Inaho did and doesn’t know why.(She actually giving me a bit of a Shirley vibe…)

Well, next week, looks to be the showdown between Slaine and Marylcian. I can take a guess how that will end, but I have no doubt that Slaine will end up having more allies than enemies by the end of it.

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

but I have no doubt that Slaine will end up having more allies than enemies by the end of it.

      And a Death Star(tm).

      • Irenesharda says:

Well, the guy did jinx himself by saying that Slaine wasn’t “worthy” to be a count because he didn’t have a landing castle (nevermind that it was Saazbaum that lost the castle, not Slaine), and then conveniently brings his landing castle with him to this duel that he challenges Slaine to. 😉

    • BlackBriar says:

but I have no doubt that Slaine will end up having more allies than enemies by the end of it.

All good points mentioned. My biggest inquiry in light of all his actions is what Asseylum will think of him when she eventually wakes up.

      • Irenesharda says:

You know what, honestly, I really don’t care anymore. I don’t care what Asseylum will think. She did little last season and she’s done nothing this season. And really, I haven’t missed her all that much.

  10. Irenesharda says:

Also, guys, I do think Inaho’s a little stiff, he’s never really done it for me as one of the MCs. However, I do think that he’s begun to show a bit more emotion recently then he did the first cour. He’s not going to ever be my favorite of the two MCs, but I’ll admit he’s gotten better. I’d rather take Slaine’s anti-hero (or “dark hero” as the Japanese call it) over Inaho, who, while he’s becoming okay, hasn’t connected to me like Slaine has.

That flashback scene with Yuki and him trying to cover her with the blanket despite all his injuries was a nice look at their relationship. Also, all the stuff from the first cour too let us get a glimpse into their connection. The way we saw them together in the apartment back in episode 1, or when she says that she can understand all of Inaho’s stoic faces despite the fact that to everyone else he looks the exact same. There are hints as too their relationship here and there. I do think that maybe like you guys said, they should have shown more to that, and fleshed out a little more. But also, to really put it bluntly, with a couple exceptions, almost ALL of Earth teams characters are really badly developed. Many of them might as well be background characters.

As for flaws the director came out in an interview lately and told the direction that they originally were going to go with Inaho this cour, but had to adjust it a bit because of how sturdy Inaho’s friends/family circle ended up being:

    Show ▼

Also, that comment that the doctor said regarding his eye and the fact that if he keeps expanding its hardware, it will eventually affect his brain, and by the time he notices, it will be too late, is almost assuredly a Chekhov’s gun. I think that time when he said at the end of the last episode that he has no choice, and then put his hand to his eye, might have actually been alluding to this. So we might just see some things go wrong for Inaho eventually.

    Show ▼

    • Foshizzel says:

All of that sounds great for the “Inaho DOES have emotions” unfortunately I the anime is doing a very poor job of showing us, but yeah I know his “actions” are where his “emotion” come through! I just feel there really is no connection between Inaho and Yuki even back in the second half I never felt anything between them other than Yuki being the over protective big sis and Inaho doing whatever he wants even with all her warnings.

I agree 100% that the Earth side of things has TERRIBLE characters because they lack development and it feels like nobody changed from the one year time skip, but I get it a year is kinda small for change which is why I wanted a bigger gap in time like two or three years later that way you can have character growth and what not.

Yeah I fully expect something to happen with Inaho’s mecha eyeball because it also has an AI installed and if scifi anime has taught us anything AI’s ALWAYS go bad later on…

  11. Di Gi Kazune says:

Slaine has made his move… There is no return now. Alea iacta est.
