Durarara!!x2 Shou – 03

Drrrx2 3-00006

Hachikuji, is that you?!

Three posts in a week, you people must be wondering what has gotten into me but well, I take my aniblogging responsibilities seriously! And here is the series I wait for eagerly each week. You must have guessed that Drrrx2 will be tagged between Fosh and I so enjoy this supernatural ride with us! On my count this week, it’s funny that I get another love story (similar to Death Parade), to discuss. A good story though is always welcome.

Escalating Problems

Like I theorised previously, and just as expected from the inter-connected events cascading on our screens since the first episode, Shizuo did beat the crap out of Hollywood along with the super tall dude named Egor. To sort out the events, I presume Egor was working under Shingen’s orders to kidnap Hollywood for his abominable experimentation. And during their chase, they ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time. In front of a very pissed off bartender who is known to throw anything and everything in his way. Bad luck for them but good luck for Shinra, who made a lot of money (200k yen from Russian Sushi), in the process.

Involvement of Shiki (the dude who visited Shinra), must be due to close mafia ties of Egor and this pretty much proves that Shingen is embroiled in a LOT of shady business. It’s not just Izaya who has been up to no good but Shingen as well has been going crazy in Ikebukuro, experimenting on people and doing much more than a friendly mad scientist could. I’m still wondering if he is working with Izaya, which will result in some cataclysmic shitstorm later if realised. I never expected him to be a doting brother but I have a feeling Mairu and Kururi will not be leaving their fascination for supernatural behind along with their… ahem, love for each other. Let me remind everyone that they still have Celty’s lost money so I do hope they have a face-to-face soon for both their benefits.

Twisted Love Story

Drrrx2 3-00016Drrrx2 3-00022

Let’s come to the juiciest part of the episode. The encounter between heartthrob Yuhei aka Kasuka and Idol-kawai Ruri aka Hollywood. One is an emotionless zombie, while the other is a serial killer due to ancestry issues. I definitely want to know what’s in her genes but we have another fast healer in our midst besides Shizuo and Celty. So, another supernatural being joins the fray and she’s another cute but crazy girl similar to Celty and Anri. One of these days, all the bishoujos in this series will gang up to raise hell in Ikebukuro.

Anyways, Shizuo’s brother is sure dreamy in his own deadpan way. His introduction before was already hilarious but this new development of helping out a known murderer is quite intriguing. I’m sure his protective streak got hold of him after he realised that Hollywood was the famous Hijiribe Ruri. Quite a scandal if the paparazzi got a hold of such juicy news. The actual headline was shocking in itself with two of the nation’s heartthrobs getting hooked for good. The day’s sales must have shot through the roof along with delicious tears of millions.

That kiss between Kasuka and Ruri could have been a cover but as we can’t really gauge Kasuka’s emotions for now, we can’t really label this a real thing. But at least we know that he’s a good guy, who protects crying girls. Though, it’s another question entirely that the girl in question is a famous psycho killer. But there’s similarity between them on how they are missing some basic emotions we, normal people take for granted. Maybe this would become the reasoning behind their bonding but at least they are gelling well together for starters.

For now, ONE mystery has been resolved around Hollywood. However, we have some gang issues rising with Yellow Scarves openly challenging known Dollars members. It’s safe to say that more than Mikado’s love life is in danger and he better get off his timid horse to tackle new challenges.

Can Drrr! get any more weird? We have yet another supernatural being raising its highly makeup’d head, who was a twin-tailed loli at her outset. I know such information is so much important to the people for whom ‘Moe is in the eye of the beholder’. I am sure this Walker line has resonated across the fandom and would end up behind a lot of memes. After all, people like us, who love 2D, such trinkets are more than appreciated. Forget about the definition of wholesomeness from Dotachin because we all know what Togusa was up to: shedding delicious tears for his unreachable idol.

The story is progressing nicely but oh man, this episode had a lot of derpy animation. I can only imagine the pains of a new studio so I forgive the staff but I hope this does not become a standard. On the development side, I want to know more about Ruri and her blood problems. I mean, what urges her to kill and the specific type of people she goes after? I’m pretty it was a bluff to kill Kasuka as per her internal monologue, so is she a hero in disguise, ridding the city of vile people or just killing randomly because her blood tells her to? I can only hope Celty or even Anri help her cure the murderous intent or channel it towards something constructive.

Besides her, more twins are always welcome (they bring such pizzazz to the screen), along with Shizuo. I mean, some dialogue would be nice besides the usual curses.

When it comes down to it, the Russian characters are some of the biggest unknowns in the series. With the introduction of Igor, I bet this will lead to more knowledge about Simon and the Owner chef as well. I think Ruri is a lot older than she looks. She is clearly supernatural, and the house she was from doesn’t exactly look like your average house in Ikebukuro. Not to mention the people she kills aren’t random at all. We still need to learn so so SO much about what the hell is going on before I can comprehend what is happening. I can’t wait for the twins to meet up with Mikado.

    • Kyokai says:

Yes. We don’t know much about them except for the fact that Simon hates violence and shows up on screen waving Russian Sushi marketing material. Though, how these two elements mingle is a mystery in itself.

I don’t think we’ll get enough juicy details but anything is welcome. We are already in the middle of the build-up for the Hollywood arc.

I can’t wait for the twins to meet up with Mikado.

I’d like to see his reaction if the twins ever decide to lock lips in front of him. His aghast expressions have sure improved from season one! xD

  2. Iron Maw says:

Poor Togusa, I know that feeling. 🙁

  3. JPNIgor says:

Funny fact is that talented actors in Drrr’s world are all inexpressive poker faced people. So ironic.

And the twins attack again. You can’t just do that, specially when I’m watching stuff with family behind me. Probably gonna put it together with NSFW stuff just to be safe.

    • BlackBriar says:

Hahaha!! You should’ve braced yourself for anything after Mairu announced to her whole class porn was one of her favorite books and she swings both ways when it comes to love and sex drive.

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

Yes. Either LOLis or SHOtas are Fine Too.

      • JPNIgor says:

Yeah, I know but… She said she swinged both ways and liked porn manga, not that she had a wincest relationship ‘-‘ I keep getting caught off guard…

        • BlackBriar says:

Why should her own sister be off limits to her perversion? 😉 Clear enough she’d go after anyone who strikes her fancy.

    • Kyokai says:

Pretty much. They come alive on screen but go back to deadpan expression. I mean:

      Drrrx2 3-00108

And be ready for more sucky face later because I don’t think we have seen the end of it yet.

  4. Wanderer says:

Given that Ruri indicated that she was disgusted and horrified every time she killed someone, I quite doubt she’s doing it because she wants to. Wasn’t there also something about “only one more” or something like that, in there? I think she’s killing specific people for a specific reason. Possibly related to qhy people want to kidnap her and dissect her. Or possibly related to the flashback we saw of her coming home to find her home destroyed and her family dead.

    • Kyokai says:

I presume, it’s how her blood/gene has been programmed. I’m curious to know the criteria for her kill list, which hopefully we’ll find out soon enough.

      • Iron Maw says:

Well she also says she can “only kill them” too. So there is a conscious intent behind her actions, but it looks to be directed at very specific targets rather than random acts of violence. I definitely agree that’s probably something related to Ruri’s supernatural origins.

        • BlackBriar says:

I believe it’s because she’s so wired, she’ll commit the acts willingly or not.

  5. Envyus says:

Should be noted that the twins used the Money they found to pay for Egor’s surgery. So the money actually went back to Celty and Shinra.

    • Kyokai says:

The money was paid by Simon to Shinra. If you watch the episode, Simon and Dennis both complain about his high fees and they discuss to take it off the till for their next supply. But as Dennis did puff up after Simon suggested that, maybe the twins offered to help? I guess, we’ll find out.

    • BlackBriar says:

Technically, it’s gone into Shinra’s hands, not Celty’s. Then again, she did try to use the money to buy him a gift.

  6. BlackBriar says:

This series continues to amaze. No matter how many disjointed parts are presented, they always end up intertwined in the long run. When you look back, it all begins to make sense.

Since Durarara already borders on the supernatural, my supposition is whatever is the cause to Ruri’s murderous urges must be a hereditary trait. Something in the family bloodline that was passed down, dormant for who knows how long and it woke with her. Maybe similarities to Anri and her Saika issues.

Intriguing indeed the conversation between Ruri and Yuhei. Did well in pulling attention. Though it should’ve been a scene that demands a lot of tension because, hey, the girl’s a serial killer, instead was quiet and subtle because they’re talking so casually. As it shows, he let his guard down because he knows her personally. He knows a swift death is more than possible but doesn’t flinch. I guess it’s not farfetched believing he’s practically saying he doesn’t mind if she kills him.

The Oriharas are proving very problematic when Celty is involved. Mairu and Kururi have her money and Izaya still has her head. The twins, however, win more of the spotlight than their big brother. That incestuous yuri kiss. I’d have settled for one or the other but that combo was just too effective.

    • Kyokai says:

Drrr! staff is amazing at foreshadowing so I’m pretty sure that all things will make sense once the Hollywood arc ends.

The scene between Ruri and Kasuka was quite powerful. I really liked how they executed it. These are the two unlikeliest of people, who came together due to weird circumstances. Let’s see what future holds for them but at least it’s going to be interesting.

All the smooching in the episode really caught me off-guard but it was fanservice in the end. We’ll definitely be getting a lot more.

      • BlackBriar says:

The incest yuri kiss caught you off guard? That’s a surprise as I thought you read the manga and saw it coming.

  7. BlackBriar says:

Somebody, help. Spammy is at it again and after I remade my comment that was apparently deleted in the spam load.

    • Kyokai says:

      Done!

      • BlackBriar says:

Thanks for the help, Boss Lady. I knew something wasn’t right when I woke up and found my comment count went down. Luckily I had the comment saved on “Microsoft Word”.

  8. Nerazim says:

so i’m not the only one who immediately thought of the Max Sandsheild/Isaac Dian link when they mentioned his odd English, right?

    • Kyokai says:

I discussed this in the first impressions. I’m pretty sure Yuhei’s agent is Isaac as we keep seeing him in stills or actual shots since the season beginning.
