Folks. I’m sorry. The Fredrika Chest-Burst shirt is not available to order. So…if the Kami of Order Fulfillment blesses me, I’ll have a Shinobu shirt on display for the next live show. So sorry. But once that Chest-Burst is available…It Will Be Mine!

I wonder if the anime industry subscribes to the “all publicity is good publicity” mindset that certain game companies/publishers believe in. If this is the case, that might explain why they’re willing to put their show on the air even if most of it will be obscured by censors.

    • Foshizzel says:

Yeah same with Hollywood movies! Bad publicity is both good and bad, but it gets people talking so mission accomplished <3

Nice podcast everyone. And wow, so many breast jokes! You guys outdid yourselves for the beginning. Onto my choices:

Trashbin: World Trigger, Vanadis and Cross Ange (So glad that I dropped on first episode before all the raep!)

Better than what I thought: Parasyte (I just couldn’t hate Migi and Shinichi is a nice guy), Garo (DAT opening! And the characters are fun), and Taizai (even when Melodias is such a PERVVVVV along with yet another airhead hime, who is not only similar to Aldnoah/Zero’s but voiced by the same seiyuu to boot)

Best of the season: UBW (for obvious reasons), Bahamut and Mushishi.

    Others:

Shirobako is basically the reality show version of anime. Really loving it till now on how we can finally see what really happens in the background production of the form of entertainment we spend a lot of hours in.

Orenchi is a fun short ride even with its misleading OP.

Same for Danna anime, which is not as awesome as spotted flower but the comedy is brilliant for a shortie. Answering on the attraction question, they are definitely attracted to each other. Remember on their honeymoon when the wife was like, aaah, I don’t wanna wear a swim suit and the husband goes but I want to see you in one – cue, they had intense sex afterwards. That’s basically married life guys. You always don’t need a big reason to go do it. You just do it because you can. All that attraction and flirting happens when you are dating. 😉 Though, yes, I’d really like to know how they actually met because our dude doesn’t have friends at all. Have to mention his trappy brother, who is hilarious.

Last but not the least, skylion’s t-choice should exactly be what Cools recommended.

      *whispers* gugure gugure kokkuri-san DISCO!

I’m waiting for something worthwhile to happen before I would start on madange. (DAMMIT! I’m an ANGRY scientist, not a MAD one!) I think I mentioned it before in the first impressions of the show: If I wanted mindbreak, I’d rather be reading doujinshi from Goshujinsama no Omochabako… Note this is a WARNING: DO NOT SEARCH unless you want your mind completely broken and fucked. Just take my advice. In this case, the saying curiosity did not kill the cat; it raeped, mindbroke, skinned, flayed, drawn and quartered the cat.

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

Hah! Spammy has protected you from the doujinshi!

Regarding Cross Ange, I think the reason that it is actually so well-received (It is actually one of my favorite shows) is because even though it’s uncomfortable and exploitative, it brings an authenticity that lets us get into the show. The setting, the characters, the action and plot all work together to make it feel authentic. The characters are reacting the right way to their situations. The situations are unfolding the way they should. Sure, it’s a fantastical setting, but there’s not that feeling that Valvrave had of “We’re going to throw every stupid thing at this show and see what people like.” It’s like they dialed it back 50%, but in so doing made it be more like 90% believable, rather than Valvrave‘s 20% believable.

I don’t get the feeling that people are watching it to see characters get their comeuppance, like Angeline being outed as a Norma after her sheltered upbringing, and after condemning the baby to a terrible life that we see later. Instead, there’s almost a feeling of assurance that people will get what they get, and if karma’s going to get them, we don’t need to worry about it because the show will get to it. But it’s also not setting itself up as a ‘just world’. Was Zola’s end just? I don’t really know. Coco’s certainly wasn’t. It’s just what happened. And this show’s not going to say “All the good guys get protected, all the bad guys get desert.” And it’s certainly not titillating. I just think it’s a well-done show.

As for what I think of other shows this season, I don’t really have any ‘garbage’ shows. I dropped Terraformars, and that’s really the only one I’ve dropped so far, but it’s just not good, not garbage.

For shows that are surprisingly good, I put the aforementioned Cross Ange, Yuuki Yuuna, Twintails, and Karen Senki.

Shows I expected to be good and am really enjoying are Shirobako and Amagi Brilliant Park.

Shows that are a bit disappointing: Girlfriend (although I was really charmed by episode 3, when I slowed down to it’s マイペース style), Daitoshokan, Ushinawareta, although Daitoshokan seems to be getting better faster than Ushinawareta.

Honorable Mention: Ookami Shoujo. It had a synopsis that made it seem like Kyoya was going to be absolutely horrible, but he’s not, and the show is really going in a good direction.

  6. BlackBriar says:

Hey, Jrow, don’t feel ashamed about your planning ethic. I do it myself. Listing out whatever animes are coming the following season and decide which ones I’m going watch beforehand. The embarrassing thing is… that list has been building on itself for some time. Going all the way back to Winter 2011. Originally, I meant to delete it but never did.

Trashbin: Inou-Battle wa Nichijou-kei no Naka de. About the only candidate in this category. After a laborious first episode with an insatiable lead making me cringe with his over the top, humorless antics almost resulting in getting dropped halfway through, I couldn’t bear the idea of continuing on.

Better than I thought: Donten ni Warau, Nanatsu no Taizai, Trinity Seven, Madan no Ou to Vanadis.

Best of season: Psycho-Pass 2, Shingeki no Bahamut Genesis, Mushishi Zoku Shou, Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works.

Parasyte makes for a passable series. It has creepy settings and creatures in its arsenal. What put me off at first was the lead who looks pretty pathetic to me. Though, it appears he’s beginning to shape up.

I’ve caught up to Cross Ange marathoning from the second to fourth episode and in my personal opinion, it’s gotten better. I know there’s been some controversial stuff but if anything, it serves as to steel you for whatever comes next. Sunrise has been known to throw curve balls. Aside from the action thanks to the fight against the dragons, it’s become a guilty pleasure of mine due to the rampant yuri tendencies that pop up every now and then.

Overall, some good series here and there but as a whole, this Fall is unusually weaker compared to its predecessors. It’s not as strong as say Fall 2013 or even Fall 2012.

    • Highway says:

I have to say that there’s no yuri as I would define it in Cross Ange. As skylion said in the podcast, there’s nothing happy about their relations. It’s all power and posturing and pecking order.

Looks like Friday or Saturday is the way to go. Thanks to those who voted.

Folks, my Shinobu shirt is being held hostage at the USPO in Urbancrest, OH. Please pray for a safe delivery….
