First Impression – World Trigger

World Trigger or more like World nobody cares about? We shall see…

Time for another first impression post and this time we dive into World Trigger and before this aired I did check out the first four or so chapters from the manga and found it to be enjoyable and funny for the most part, but in all honesty I have no idea what I am expecting from a anime adaptation! I guess we will find out huh?

—————————————-

Two worlds in one!?

World Trigger (4)

Yuuma’s shocking truth face~

World Trigger (6)

Osamu was quite the dull and was a very uninteresting character.

Well they certainly threw us right into things at the start explaining about the plot of World Trigger huh? Then again I am glad we got that quick history lesson out of the way, but of course it isn’t hard to understand the concept of monsters from another world invading ours because that is common place in the world of anime. Aside from that we have BORDER who set up their home base in our world to handle the NEIGHBORS which is a stupid name for the monsters and now regular people can sign up and join Border to become agents that fight neighbors? That sounds a bit like Bleach to me with the whole Shinigami fighting hollows, but you can pick just about any series like that and compare it to World Trigger. Besides the anime history lesson this was just a typical introduction episode with Yuuma meet Osamu meeting each other and having them “hitting it off” which I feel they didn’t really do so cause Osamu spent most of his time teaching Yuuma the rules of Japan! Also the whole reveal that both of them are Border Agents or are they? I know Yuuma isn’t really an official agent because he got his ring from his father and the other fact of him not human, but a Neighbor? I always thought that was interesting from the manga and I guess that means he is a hybrid mix between human and Neighbor? Which probably explains why his superhero suit is a different color than Osamu’s and why does Yuuma have a robot/mascot partner? I am sure we will find out more soon! I just want to see the other characters appear, but ah well we will just have to wait for more episodes to come out.

FK YA EXTRA STUFF

World Trigger (2)

It just wants to cuddle~

World Trigger (3)

Not even this LOLi can keep Skylion interested.

World Trigger (7)

I was shocked he didn’t spin and strike a pose after transforming.

End thoughts

So what did you think of World Trigger? Will you be watching more of this or are you planning on passing on this? I wouldn’t blame you if you tried it and then dropped it afterwards, but I might stick around watching it! I hope it does something cool; however it feels like a pretty generic shounen that usually gets left in the dust! I was originally curious about this anime after seeing the huge cast of voice actors tied to the project cause they have Yuki Kaji, Nobuhiko Okamoto, Jun Fukuyama, Kana Hanazawa and Rie Kugimiya! So I hope World Trigger can do something with that batch of talent and oh ya the opening was nice! It reminds me of Ao no Exorcist.

He is probably listening to some generic rock music.

About

Is huge anime fan from Florida! who loves to watch anime and also enjoys drawing and collecting pictures, my favorite genre of anime has to be Mecha, there is just something awesome about giant robots beating the crap out of each other! I won’t continue watching this show for one reason: the horrible animation quality. I will just stick with this above average manga.

  2. belatkuro says:

Leave it to Toei to deliver a below average quality animation. Which is why I don’t feel like catching up to Sailor Moon Crystal at this point.

The story is pretty straightforward I guess with a twist like that. To be able to last a full year without getting axed by WSJ, there must be something to it I guess. Then again, there were other manga in WSJ that lasted longer but still got the axe(looking at you Psyren and Mx0).

With the current situation in WSJ right now(Naruto ending, KnB finished, Toriko failing to meet expectations, HiatusxHiatus), that’s probably all the more reason for WSJ to hold this series to get it to produce milk. Even One Piece can’t sustain WSJ by itself and the top manga at the moment(Haikyuu, Shokugeki, AssClass, Nisekoi) aren’t big enough to keep it together.

Doesn’t seem like Toei can milk it for long given it’s been serialized for only a year. I guess I’ll continue to watch it only for Kawai Kenji’s OSTs.

    • Foshizzel says:

LOL yeah that seems to be the overall reaction to Toei anime in general, but they do really good stuff with certain episodes of Precure and One Piece well I guess that goes to the pro artists when they need some quality stuff.

Ohhh? Yeah I don’t hear a lot about World Trigger’s manga but overall yeah it is generic.

Naruto is ending in 5 chapters right? I heard most fans are really pissed off because those final chapters will be rushed! That and they just started another fight! As for the rest on that list yeah they seem to be searching for the next big manga series.

Yeah ill keep watching for a bit longer to see where things go.

  3. HannoX says:

I thought this a boring episode, almost as boring as Osamu, and yeah, lousy animation. I’ll give this one more episode hoping we get more of the LOLi and she proves to be a badass sniper type. But unless there’s a dramatic improvement in story telling and animation, I’ll drop it after that.

    • Foshizzel says:

Ahh yeah boring is the word id use for Osamu who didn’t really do a whole lot to excite me and agreed add in some lousy animation which did not help things…

  4. JPNIgor says:

Well, World Trigger does have some hype so I’ll stick around some more, but this start was really uninteresting. The characters were dull, the animation as well. And how can you be so dumb to the point of going to a REALLY DANGEROUS AREA yourself just to bully some kid? The thing that left me with questions enough to keep me interested is the fact that Yuuma is a neighbour.

And… Can Yuuma read minds or see through lies? Because if that’s a real power of his, it was showcased in a really awful way. Seeing through a lie in an ill joke is nothing to brag about.

    • Foshizzel says:

Ohhh? I haven’t seen much hype around this but I did find the trailers to be somewhat cool so maybe there is hope? I might stick around for a few more chapters.

Hahaha I don’t know much about Yuuma I guess he could have a lot of unknown powers.

      • JPNIgor says:

I guess the manga is successful, but I found the first trailer cool, showcasing the manga effects and stuff, but the second one was kind of lackluster, with frame problems and a chubbier (is that a word?) character design.

      • BlackBriar says:

There may still be some hope for this anime. This was just the first episode, after all.

  5. Irenesharda says:

This show is getting scathing reviews almost pretty much across the bored for being so sub-par and barely even trying. I don’t really mind a new shounen series, as while their stories can be long and repetitive, it can still be fun. But HxH, or even Naruto, this most certainly is not….

    • Foshizzel says:

Yeah I could see that it didn’t have that WOW THAT WAS COOL factor vs some of the other shows of the season and agreed it is nowhere near HxH, Naruto or One Piece.

  6. zztop says:

    Koga’s (= 3 =) face counters all rational arguments.

  7. skylion says:

Well, if we were looking for the bottom of the pile, I think this one is an early “favorite”. Nothing worked not even in the slightest. My reaction to it is akin to Chef Ramsey discovering the dirty walk-in “You could KILL someone!!!”

    • Foshizzel says:

Amen this is the bottom of the barrel this season sadly! I feel bad for all those cool actors in this, but ah well money is money.

  8. Highway says:

I was wondering how many characters could be voiced by Yuki Kaji. It seemed like both main guys in this episode were. But yeah, this is pretty low on the ‘keep’ list. It doesn’t even have cute girls like Blade Dance or Momo Kyun Sword to watch.

    • Foshizzel says:

Lol everyone is Yuki Kaji I would pay for that and sad but true no cute girls doing cute things in this.

      • BlackBriar says:

The header shows there’s at least one cute girl on her way.

  9. Noc says:

The only thought that really struck me while watching this first episode was, “this seems like a good opportunity for Yuki Kaji to lose another arm.”

That and the awful animation. I usually don’t judge, but jeez- every scene felt like it was missing several key frames.

I might watch next episode. I might not. Depends on how bored I get waiting for other shows to come out.

    • Foshizzel says:

LOL that would make the series 10x better if his character lost an arm!

      Sad but true awful animation.

      Same.

  10. BlackBriar says:

So what they’re saying here is, thou should fear thy NEIGHBOR?

World Trigger’s opening is average, smack dab in the middle of not horrible and not so great. A passable start. Though the “invaders from another world” route has been used time and time again, there are plenty of ways it can go about so hopefully the series will at least be decent. I’ll go on a little faith and continue with this. However, I’m keeping expectations low so as to avoid be disappointed. The low grade animation quality is distracting.

They did do something interesting introducing two characters on opposite extremes. One is all about morals and the other is completely lacking. I can see heads will be butting for some time.

Or psychopaths like Makishima from Psycho-Pass.

    • Foshizzel says:

Well if they are a ten foot monster that wants to eat your face then sure! I know I would.

Yeah I plan on watching more of this series just to see where things go.

Ahahah ya badasses or psychopaths xD

      • Highway says:

I love how we all just blow past the fact that the monsters are terrible CG models that look like Muppets with pretty much no texturing.

        • BlackBriar says:

Everyone’s probably used to bad CG monsters lately and didn’t feel the need to talk about them. Seeing them so often has made them numb.

        • akagami says:

I actually was reminded of a pokemon who had gotten bleached.

  11. BlackBriar says:

Can someone help me out? Spammy’s at it again.

  12. AllenAndArth says:

there’s not enough color…and the animation is borderline atrocious, the idea is good…it just lacks impact, the characters aren’t memorable…and it doesn’t have many pretty colors *w*

  13. Kyokai says:

Even that end was surprising, the rest of the characters are bland and wow, that amazingly quality production quality. Sorry, nope.

Also, this anime in one emoticon: =3=

  14. akagami says:

Watching this makes me want another season of Z/X Ignition. I actually enjoyed that to my surprise.

Half of the time the animation consisted of stills, and the other time it was a 1/4 animated rest stills. It’s actually very disappointing for a premiere.
