Aldnoah.Zero – 02

Aldnoah02 - Rayet Runs From Martian Mecha

Running seems to be the best strategy against the Martian invasion for right now

Indeed, a full house on this mini-talk as Kyo, Fosh, Sum, Sky and I talk about the reveals to things that happened in the first episode and how exactly the Earthlings are supposed to fight against a seemingly overpowered foe.

Aldnoah02 - Mecha Designs

Kenji Teraoka‘s mech designs in A.Z are quite awesome

They also seem crazy OP, at least compared to what Earthlings have put against it so far

Aldnoah02 - Slaine & BowlCut

Slaine is not down with this killing Terrans thing, Bowl Cut-san

Damn do those martian guys piss me off. Smug sons of bitches. They act like they did something of note besides columbus a bunch of technology. “Hey, we found all this stuff, and we have a cult leader, so now we’re all gods. Cower in fear, peons!”

    Dicks.

    • BlackBriar says:

Wow, Highway! They must have really gotten under your skin to get this fired up. Though I can’t blame you in the slightest. These Martians are an infuriating and arrogant set of bastards.

      • Highway says:

Yeah, this may be the most ticked off I have been at characters in a show. Like moreso than at Rea Sanka’s father. The hubris was just so gigantic.

    • Sumairii says:

      Urobutcher milking that eventual payoff~

    • Irenesharda says:

My, my, you’re certainly fired up. Yes, the Martians have a very interesting sense of superiority for a bunch of people who just found all their tech.

    • SherrisLok says:

Portrayed as a bunch of dicks in an Urobuchi anime = will turn out to be good guys in the end

    • Foshizzel says:

      Woooooooooooo go MARTIANS #TEAMMARZ

    • Namika says:

      Totally agreed.

  2. Di Gi Kazune says:

Earth microbes should kill them… wait… wrong show.

  3. JPNIgor says:

They don’t just seem crazy OP. They are crazy OP ‘-‘ How do you defeat a mecha that fucking swallows anything it touches? That’s just bullcrap. It’s almost like putting Robotics;Notes GunBuild-1 against… er… any other robot presented in mecha anime.

    • Jrow says:

Well, it wouldn’t be an interesting story if Earthlings were straight up crushed, so I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of plan Inaho and all the others can cook up to somehow decommission Trillram. Marito seemed to have an idea for them, though his first plan did not produce results.

    • Foshizzel says:

Or titans against puny humans! I think earth has a hybrid machine that will save them or Slain will lend a hand after he discovers that the princess is alive or do some pro hacking skills to shut down the OP mechs.

  4. thorgriim says:

MANNN am I alone to think if Yuki Kaizuka died that it would have been better? I dunno.. I felt it would have gotten more of an impact.. but ehh..um one more thing …damn martians.

    • Jrow says:

Maybe a bit soon for that even on an emotional impact level, though I think her odds for death in the series are somewhat considerable. Not very high, but not invincible by any stretch.

  5. Irenesharda says:

Oh, and if you need names for these mechs(kataphrakts), the ones properly introduced so far are:

The two Earth ones shown are the mass produced: KG-6 Slepinir (the orange trainer mechs that the students use), and the KG-7 Areion (the more advanced ones that all the Earth soldiers were using this episode).

The large purple one is called Nilokeras and is Trillram’s specific kataphrakt (all of the knights have their own unique mech).

I’m guessing they will begin revealing the names for the other mechs as the show continues. I really want to see Cruhteo’s mech and see what unique abilities his has. He seems to be of the elegant sort, so I’m betting we get one with swords. 😛

    • Irenesharda says:

You know, I just now realized after I wrote this that both of Earth’s kataphrakts are named after very powerful mythological horses.

While the Nilokeras is named after an actual geographic location on Mars.

In seeing that, I’m betting that all of the Martian mechs are also going to be named after locations on Mars as well.

    • Irenesharda says:

Oh sorry, that’s Sleipnir. I put the “i” in the wrong place. 😛

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

Cataphracts – Byzantine special unit. Completely useless when facing Panzers.

    • Jrow says:

I did know about the KG’s, but I did forget that they mentioned Nilokeras on the episode. Thanks.

    • Foshizzel says:

I like how each castle has their own mecha and how each design is different not just a typical Zaku unit with a unique weapon given to them or color scheme.

    • thorgriim says:

Quite neat, thanks for sharing Irenes, I like these little thing I mess.. or not pay attention to lol

  6. Irenesharda says:

    Wow…what a rush!

Well, it’s now very obvious that Earth is vastly outgunned here. I mean, that light of Aldnoah that the Martian mechs put out simply seems to instantly vaporize whatever it comes in contact with. The way it was just taking out those mechs was shocking. They never even stood a chance. The castles also come with their own amazing armory and despite it being said that they will fight among themselves, these Martians are smart enough to use phenomenal strategy and fighting skills to destroy their Terran enemies first. The fight scenes here were just exhilarating.

In the story front, we find out unsurprisingly that the princess is of course not dead. Interestingly, it’s because she was ill because of Earth’s gravity and not because she was warned of any kind of plan. She seems to be trying to get back to her people and stop this, but it is revealed that it was her people who were behind the attack in the first place, so I can only see bad things in that. And yet, it seems Asseylum has grown overnight from the idealistic, naive princess, to a girl who understands the destruction going on in front of her. She get’s major points for that from me.

As for our main MCs, Inaho is still as stoic as ever, even cooking eggs while a citywide evacuation is happening. He doesn’t seem to react to anything really. I wish I could say that the death of his friend shocked him, but since the look on his face is no different from the look he naturally gives, I can’t really tell the difference. On the other side though, I’m almost sure that Slaine will be joining our heroes at some point. He seems to be treated like a pilot that’s rented out to the lords to fly their missions, but he is definitely no killer and he seems to take ill to the thought of killing other Terrans. He’s not piloting for himself while with the Vers, so I don’t think he’s going to stay with them for too long.

In terms of piloting skills, it looks like we’re about to see what Inaho can do. He looks like he has tactical knowledge and a good head on his shoulders. However, I don’t know how far strategy is going to take you when your weaponry is so outmatched power-wise. We do learn that the light of Aldnoah has a time limit (at least I think so), which will definitely come into play. But even then, it still seems like a huge power difference.

This was an awesome episode and has fired on all cylinders for me. I can’t wait for next week.

    • Foshizzel says:

      What a rush indeed!

Truth earth was quickly dominated by the enemy and their stolen tech! I feel bad for them, but at the same time I was kinda cheering on the martians because of their OP mechs! I don’t know why either! Maybe the crazy level of destruction was why? Probably…

Yepp I sort of expected her to be alive and good call by the others of a fake princess being killed instead of the real one, but all and all she seems to be a strong character and hopefully we see more of that side of her <3

LOL Inaho! Cooking eggs in the middle of the evacuation?! I guess he really gives no shits about the world or is he just mentally scared about the past? I suppose we will have plenty of time to explore that later on.

I can't wait to see Inaho pilot a robot! Who knows maybe hes a badass at that? We shall see~

      Hell ya!

      • thorgriim says:

Cooking eggs in the middle of the evacuation?!

But if something where to happen to those egss, i bet he finally show some reaction… or not, he’d probably watch them and go make more. this guy tisk.

Note how it says the Mars colonists originally rebelled against Earth to protest against their ‘relocation’ to Mars.

  8. BlackBriar says:

Damn, as if the shockwave causing mass genocide from the Space Castle last episode wasn’t enough. Earth is being overrun by these arrogant Martian pricks with counterattacks going in vain. Battle nothing, this is a one-sided slaughter. The one who really made my blood boil was the piece of trash with the bowl cut, Trillram on his high horse. He even killed his own soldiers. Nobles of his type I have no ounce of sympathy for when they meet their end so I’d like to see his head on a spike or something equally gruesome.

No surprise the princess still draws breath but I say she cut it close. If not for her intolerance to the planet’s gravity, that really would’ve been her murdered and this coup d’état would’ve been set in stone with none the wiser. Still alive yet now she’s at a disadvantage. Even if she were to return, there will be obstacles in the way. Surely the Martians recorded the entire parade event as “proof” and justification for their attacks so if she announces her survival, she’d be branded an imposter. Slaine can obviously vouch for her sake. However, he’s already maligned as it is for being a Terran. Such a scenario is very plausible.

    • Foshizzel says:

Even more reason to say Woooooooooooo go MARTIANS #TEAMMARZ

YAY PRINCESS IS ALIVE now if we could only find a way to help the earthlings fight back and save the planet! Slain has to help or does the princess really have a hidden power to help them? I can’t wait to see the next episode.

      • thorgriim says:

Right BB, I feel the same way, Bowl cut dude needs to die! that bastard.. he will get his in the end and then there will be much rejoice!

Yep,knew she wouldn’t have died.. I’m surprised she though of this plan herself?, either way, I’m also curious to see how things turn out for her, maybe she’ll just become a normal citizen lol. Speaking of characters, Kaizuka, he a bit too clam and robotic.. not much emotions kinda makes him unlikable to me, It does make things different which is fine and I don’t hate him for it. he’s just uh awkward with all the things going on around him hehe.

well we all know whats going to happen, well 2 options really, Our boy teacher for the princess will find out she’s alive and well.. turn his guns on the Martians. B, Kaizuka Inaho will find a mecha of awesome power and fight like a certain Yamato Kira Jesus-sama! or gain Slaine Troyard mech somehow.

        • thorgriim says:

. I’m surprised she though of this plan herself?,

oops… I actually forgot it was due to her feeling sick.. Mybad!

Preview for Episode 3 is out for those who want to see it.

  10. Namika says:

I liked this show, but I have to admit it’s not as amazing as I expected. Though most of the time I’m really fast to judge.
I get the feeling similar to one I got from seeing AOT, because Terrans are so ridiculously powerless against the Martians.
I’ll keep watching, though, because there are some amazing people behind this thing. Plus, I’m almost certain Hiroyuki Sawano is doing the music, and I freaking love him, so that adds on.

    • Highway says:

As much as they might seem powerless, it doesn’t give me the same feel that Shingeki no Titan did, in that the humans have no chance, they’re not going to get one, and it’s just marking time until they’re extinguished. In this one, there really does seem like there’s going to be a plausible way out: either the Terrans discover their own technology, or they steal it from Vers, or the Vers self destruct under their delusions of godhood, or there’s even a political shift.

  11. Nerazim says:

imo, the shield tech thingy (Light of Aldnoah, although i doubt the “light” is only shield tech) should have a certain overload level (even if it’s extremely high). i mean, he can go through corners of buildings, but he won’t dissolve his way through a tunnel? i think it’s either an upper level in output, or there’s still some sort of resistive force when taking something out, and the tunnel exceeded that limit.
so, if they get a VERY large object (and maybe long, so that it takes a while for Trillram to go through it), they may be able to overpower the shield and get some shots in.
… of course, whether or not those shots work on the mech’s casing is a different problem all together…

    • Jrow says:

I’m with you on the tunnel thing. I thought that when they went under that he was gonna look at his panel and maybe see that it was too thick to walk through, or that his shield’s level couldn’t handle any more power usage, or that he’d travel too slow walking through the tunnel to keep up with the truck.

I’m really looking forward to seeing what they can do to stop him.
