Kin’iro no Corda Blue♪Sky – 07-09

Theatre of the Deranged

…No, really. Jinnan’s musical hallucinations looked an awful lot like Saber’s Noble Phantasm from Fate/Extra. Anyways, sorry for the late post. I’ve been playing otoge and avoiding life (er, if aniblogging even counts as “life”) this past week. ヽ(´ー`)ノ

Luckily for character backstory’s sake, not only does Yukihiro know the exact room where Chiaki practices (despite neither of them actually living in Yokohama), but Chiaki’s father was conveniently there to tell his son that he disapproves of him. I’m not entirely sure what the full story about Chiaki’s father is, but considering how deep the rest of the character stories go, maybe that was the full story. I don’t know for sure. This event was probably somewhere in the Jinnan game, because I’m done the Chiaki route and there was no mention of this. Though the two of them kind of resolving their differences in episode 8 (and the reason for it) was pretty assured. As for Toki, he… didn’t even really have a backstory in the game minus that he’s kind of ill. So really, it’s okay if they didn’t focus on his character too much. There are far to many characters to keep track of already. But, hey! They did play Danse Macabre for their piece! Seiso didn’t really feel like their performance won over Jinnan’s (what is a giant flower blooming in space compared to an entire themed theatre/costume change?), but at least they can attribute their win to having better teamwork than ever before.

Don’t ask how any of this imagery relates.

All of the Seiso characters felt like they were holding the team back, if that self pity party by the lake was any indication, but they managed to do pretty well for themselves. Kanade still seems pretty distracted by everything outside of music a little to easily, but hopefully she’ll learn…? Ritsu was pretty harsh with his “pay attention or get out”, but after most of the season with her like this, his POV is pretty easy to sympathize with. Kanade really does need to get her act together. Luckily, she seemed to have better concentration once Kyouya stopped being a whiny brat. Though it’s still kind of questionable as to why they chose her to play 1st in the final round. She’s not even close to being the violin god she was in the game, unless she had some kind of huge revelation offscreen and improved.

Apparently Kyouya’s whole problem was that he didn’t want to be compared to Ritsu. …Which makes it a bit odd that he went with the violin of all instruments instead of something that wouldn’t be so directly comparable, but oh well. Logic isn’t exactly this anime’s strong point. Kyouya’s recovery into not being a total pain took a lot longer in the game (he was a lot better, but still a bit angsty until the final where he found his “sound”), but after half a season of him complaining, a quick change in attitude here is totally okay.

They finally pointed out Kanade’s gold string, which is the tie in to the whole “Kin’iro no Corda” title. Kanade thought it was Ritsu, but since he remembered nothing about that and the person in the flashback talked about never forgiving Kanade, there’s probably another character out there from Kanade’s past. …Considering that there’s only one character who has an inexplicable grudge against her, I’m sure that everyone can probably guess who the child really was. Plus in the flashback, Leiji was wearing almost if not the exact same outfit as when he gave Kanade the string. Apparently he didn’t own any other clothing as a child. (Wait never mind, the flashback proves that he at least had a sweater too.)

I warned you about violin and satanic rituals.

From the way things are going now, Amamiya is turning out to be even more dysfunctional than Seiso. Er, maybe not Sei, but Leiji was certainly feeling the PAAAAAIN of his traumatic childhood and Sousuke… well, who even knows what his problem is. Sei may finally be getting over his issues, since he seems to be falling for Kanade for real (…why). However, Leiji certainly has a lot of angst going on. It probably doesn’t help that Saeka was purposely trying to anger him with that flute music (…don’t ask how she knew that the song would bring up his childhood), but even his imouto is worried over him. …There’s not a whole lot I have to say about this, really. Things are still hilariously cliche, and music is still extremely serious business. Now I guess it will just be the build up to the ending. Gosh, I wonder who will win and if the power of music/friendship/etc will ever help Leiji see the error of using music for the forces of hate or whatever the hell he’s doing.

Well, there’s not much I can add. It’s great that Seiso finally have gotten themselves together (until Kanade’s next confidence drop at least, because that’s bound to happen). Having Kyouya’s angst out of the way makes this just so much more watchable. Also a plus, Jinnan was just as fabulous as I was hoping they’d be, and Leiji is just as …angsty? Unlike Kyouya, at least his angst is kind of funny and doesn’t make the whole show drag out. Or at least, not yet. Maybe that will become worse in later episodes, but for now watching him clutch his chest in an overly dramatic fashion is more than enough entertainment.

Please. You’re anime characters. You ALL look pale.

    AESTUS DOMUS AEREUS!

If memory serves, that theatre is based off a real-life example. I seem to have seen it somewhere before.

After tagging along with a few of the Kinino no Corda episodes with my lil sis, I have to admit that the musical hallucination is the best part of it XD

And the forum I visited for this show have been dead since EP6 last I check and the last discussion they had is abt dissing otomes >_>

Ahaha right? What other show throws around such stupidly shoujo imagery. xD I spend most of my watch time laughing more than anything.

Ah, well, otoge anime are pretty terrible in general. I’m definitely enjoying this one because I’m not taking it seriously.

That was so stupid. “Mwahahahaha! I’m going to destroy you with this piece of music from your childhood, to get revenge on you for being so good that my loser brother lost his nerve!” In fact, this whole show just pegs the stupid meter, especially whenever Leiji shows up.

Leiji’s angst is more comical than Kyouya’s, but it still harms the show, I think, because he’s such a jerk about it.

As for the quality of the performances, realistically, they’re all in the ‘acceptable to pretty good’ range. but there’s nothing that really differentiates them when you’re watching on TV, especially since we can’t actually see the performers. And that’s not surprising, given that they probably didn’t go out and get amazing performers to do it, they got people who are good to do it in the studio. So it’s kind of a ‘just go along with us saying how awesome these performances are’ thing.

My first thought when I saw Saeka is “Why is an aunt joining the competition?”.

    • Karakuri says:

Lololol the stupidity is what makes it funny though.

I don’t care about the performance sound quality (it’s basically the same quality as the game), but just judging from the animation and character reactions, this Kanade just isn’t as good as game Kanade at this point in time.

      • Highway says:

Yeah, this is the “OMG it’s so bad” roll your eyes show. At least Kyouya’s quit spraying angstyness all over the place.

I decided to drop this a couple of weeks ago. But. I. Just. Can’t. Do it! >_<

    • Karakuri says:

Ahahahaha good luck to you in the remaining episodes. Though since you made it through BroCon, I have confidence you can make it through this.

Goddamn that space part. Maybe that is a shot-out for that Star Drivers space ending.
