Do LRIG’s always see them like this?

Someone has to be the first to go.

Reversal of Fortune

There there Sayaka…uh, Hitoe

I tell you, I was irritated that we didn’t see last episode’s dramatic ending continue directly in this one. See,much like Tama I was itching for batteru. Someone, anyone take down the terrible due of Blue and Black. But nope. Selector battles are only as important as a photo shoot, or the whims of idols. I kid. That was actually played off quite well last episode. But, you know what I mean right? Curb stomp plz! And this episode didn’t make it any better. It made it far far worse.

And by worse, I mean, icing on the drama cake. Just leaving out the obvious clincher of this one, Hitoe’s tragic loss, we can go into the other characters. First, the brother-sister dynamic is breaking down (something his friends don’t see as all that bad). Yuzuki and Kazaki are not seeing eye to eye any longer. The shock of losing Hitoe has driven Kayano away from her Selector (we saw how effective putting them in a drawer was first episode). And who could even blame Yuzuki for her fear? And even Ruuko sits in isolation, her own grandmother becoming distant in her mind.

A Tragic Fall

This is just harsh

There is no sugar coating this. It’s just plain suckage. I knew there had to be a Faustian like price to pay for playing the game. Losing the right to be a Selector was always to easy. Hitoe has not only lost her wish, she lost the very essence of that wish. All the Selectors must suffer that in loss. I really fear for her. This is not a burden anyone should have to feel or even think about. Which is exactly what is on Yuzuki’s mind. She’s already drifting away from the source of her wish. But does she really need to lose it that much?

Along with loss, we also get to see potential abandonment. As if it wasn’t enough to acknowledge losing the essence, and knowing the LRIG’s are keeping that information hidden, they are still playing ever more secretly. What else is in store for this game that they would practically beg to be tossed aside?

Green’s Last Stand

This had me so curious. If they all went out to the card tourney with just playing a regular game in mind, why did Hitoe even participate in a Selector battle? Iona Her opponent must have been very compelling. Either that, or the fact that her wish was already fulfilled made her think this battle would not matter win or lose. It was then the ball really dropped on her, and the reason why she battled lost all meaning. Who set up this turkey shoot? If it was Iona, given her disgust over a lack of a wish in Ruuko, what did she see in a wish already fulfilled outside of Selector battle?

Speaking of disgust, can they make Akira even more unlikable? What exactly is driving this person. At this point I would say it was just character tropes worn to the ultimate, but that just doesn’t cut it. Taking her honest characteristics into mind we can get one final sense of loss. Humanity. There is just no empathy whatsoever in her. And this is the girl that is scared to near death of Iona and her LRIG. I did like that moment, from a writer’s perspective, of how Akira let Ruuko twist by mentioning how sadistic Urisu is. Just because, how many times did Akira twist under that sadism.

Extra Despair

As I said, if the last episode didn’t set you up for wanting all out curb stomping Selector battle, surely this one will set you to scream for it. Oh, how these tales of tragedy, and revenge, and loss are weaved, eh? Just when you think they have piled it on high,eh? I hope they don’t take it to far, as that sounds like it would fatigue the over all narrative. As it stands we really want to see Black and Blue get beaten black and blue.

Wixoss confirmed as a split 2 season show of 12 episodes per season, with Season 2 due this Fall 2014.

    • Tenzo says:

Oh my god… I’m gonna make a new river.
      Season 2 huh… I can’t even imagine how the 1st one ends…

      • skylion says:

        Welcome to Metanorn, Tenzo.

I actually didn’t see that coming; it does make me wonder at what point in the story they split the cour.

Kekekeke, all going according to keikaku (T/L note: Keikaku means plan), QB’s plan that is. All that despair will power the universe!

    • skylion says:

He’s/She’s/It’s doing a good job hiding himself/herself/itself. Or maybe this is Houmura’s plot?

    • Nipah says:

When you said according to keikaku (T/: note Keikaku means plan) remind me of the video called super carry by ThePopushi.

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

It is actually from a very old meme… some cheesy subbing group used keikaku and tagged on the T/L note. Then there’s always the mass naked child events… O_x

Anyone who can remember those days is an old jiji/baba.

The story is getting darker and the suffering’s beginning in earnest inciting fear into the WIXOSS game. What a screwed up penalty to pay and drawback to endure if the losses pile up. If that’s what it means to be a Selector then it’s like going all in but gambling with your soul as collateral. After the third loss, that former Selector’s life may as well have ended right there.

Obviously Iona is the one who dealt with Hitoe. The way I see it, she fancies herself the game’s eliminator of sorts, taking out those she believes are unfit to be the Eternal Girl. Last episode was enough to confirm she’s an elitist and if the theory is on the mark, Ruuko is making for the top of her list for being a Selector without a wish, right above Akira who I feel isn’t far from being crushed under her heel.

What are the consequences for someone like Ruuko? If there’s no wish from her part, then it would mean she doesn’t have to lose anything.

Akira is an unscrupulous, remorseless bitch. There’s only so much a person can endure watching a wretch like her continue to walk around scot free tormenting people however she pleases. Here’s hoping Ruuko brings her down and hard.

    • skylion says:

Well, they got that 2 cour announcement, so how the lay of the battlefield progresses just got more complicated.

As for me, I would love to see Akira kick Iona’s butt all over the place, and have Yuzuki come in and make dominance. Then she turns all crazy, only to have Ruuko clean up the mess. Cause that is bloody awful and dramatic and cool.

  4. Highway says:

I don’t see how they’re going to stretch this to 20+ episodes. If they do, there’s not going to be many battles, with only 4 girls + mystery girl.

The giant plot hole here was “If Midoriko cared AT ALL about Hitoe, why didn’t she tell Hitoe about the 3 loss condition? Maybe it’s unpleasant, but there’s apparently no prohibition to knowing it (since Hayano told them). No, it was just “You should get rid of me. Oh, you don’t want to? Ok. Whatevs.” Way to really get the info out there. Chicken. And why is Hayano being all moody? Because she didn’t want to tell them? Or is something else going on?

    • skylion says:

I’m of the opinion that something else is going on. I get the feeling, however vague, that the Eternal Girl battle is, in the form of the WIXOSS Selector battle, just the latest and biggest of ongoing events. IOW. It’s been going on for quite some time, and the CCG route is just the newest venue.

      • skylion says:

..and yeah, a second cour. I’m scratching me head over that as well. I think marketing has something to do with it. I’ll get more details on the game as the series progresses.

        • d-LaN says:

Didn’t I make a post abt the game rules and whatnot in the previous article? Or is it not informative enough?

          • skylion says:

Yeah, I do remember reading it. It layed out the basics quite well. Sorry I didn’t reply on the last post. I’ve be looking into this sooner rather than later, time willing.
