No Game No Life – 08

Sora will own all those lame WIXOSS players!

Welcome back for more No Game No Life! So last week we had some emotional stuff with Steph, but this time I think Sora and Shiro are making their move on the WarBeasts at last and that has me curious to see how they deal with them.

Time For A Real Game!

Behold the power of LOLi fox girls

The only thing I have to say is Damn Sora you owned this week! I was not expecting him to figure out the truth about the WarBeasts lack of psychic power and I had no idea that they also had access to such advanced technology; however when it comes to tech Sora and Shiro have no issues dealing with that since they are the video game masters. Does anyone else remember the game they played in the first episode? I wonder if the WarBeasts played in that game and could we see it pop up in episode nine? I hope so but besides all of that it was fantastic to see Sora figure things out about the WarBeasts like the fact that they are not psychic at all? Then again they can see your heart beat to see if you are lying which probably comes in handy during certain games. So did anyone else bust out laughing when Sora bet Steph’s panties as part of the reward for winning the game? That was great until he bet his own?! WHAT?! I swear I could not stop laughing after that moment and it helped that Ino Hatsuse overreacted to everything! While that was super hilarious to watch I would say that the shocking moments this week besides the ending part which I will talk about soon was easily Sora putting the entire Imanity race up for grabs as part of the other reward?! Whoa I think that was a bit extreme and it quickly ticked everyone off and I agree with what Steph said it was like they just received some kind of execution order.

Sora Where Did You Go Bro?!

NGNL (7)

Shiro-“The battery died?! Nooooooo!! Why!!!!!!!!”

Now for that shocking ending which has more impact if you watched the entire ending and even before that I thought things were mess up with the warped audio and static, but I also noticed the extreme lack of color which was a nice and creepy touch. So what the hell really happened to Sora? Did the WarBeasts erase the memories of their friends or did the actual game start when they entered the WarBeasts tower originally? Honestly that is really the only explanation that I can come up with right now and damn I feel so bad for Shiro right now because we know that the two of them can’t really work alone; however at the same time I am looking at the current situation as a chance for some character growth for Shiro to overcome her need to be so close to Sora all the time and maybe it will give her a chance to steal the spotlight and save her brother or do you have other theories as to why Sora suddenly disappeared?

Extra Games

Jibirl is the best!

Hnnnggggggggggg

NGNL (2)

Not cute at all, but damn funny.

NGNL (5)

I am sure that the girls love cute Sora~

End thoughts

What a amazing and depressing episode this week! Sora owned the WarBeasts with his skillful mind and then he suddenly vanished at the end!? Noooooooo! Why did you leave and make Shiro cry? I sure hope they manage to figure out why that happened next time, but some of the highlights for me would easily be the anime refrences to Hyouka, Yu-gi-oh and I think detective conan? Along with those parts I really loved the comical parts and all the funny character interaction with the WarBeasts like Jibirl and Hatsune making fun of each other and I have to mention Izuna who was so damn cute especially with the way she talked to Shiro and Sora? So yeah thanks Miyuki Sawashiro for providing such an adorable voice which sounded like a mix of the Dorm Mistress from Maria Holic and Dalian from Dantalian no Shoka! So what was your favorite moment this week?

About

Is huge anime fan from Florida! who loves to watch anime and also enjoys drawing and collecting pictures, my favorite genre of anime has to be Mecha, there is just something awesome about giant robots beating the crap out of each other! Other than that type of show, I love a good comedy or action series :D

That King Crimson when Izuna appeared is another Jojo reference. It’s a Stand from Part 5 that erases time. Sora and Shiro went towards Izuna so fast that Jibril didn’t even notice it so they slapped that in as a reference because Jojo.

And I still can’t get over that glitchy ED with Sora totally disappearing from it. What a brilliant move to further emphasize the weirdness of that situation. Fake end indeed.
Wonder if they’ll modify the OP as well next week. In any case, next episode will be mindblowing, in more ways than one.

      Who is this “Sora”?

    • Foshizzel says:

Ohhhh yeah I am curious to see what they do with the opening next week! I loved how the audio and video were warped with Sora and the loss of color in the ending.

    • Mexu2d says:

The glitching with Sora was really good, I honestly thought that my computer was glitching….which is dumb.
However for Sora to disappear, Why? What happened. Maybe it’s apart of the video game from the federation. I don’t know, but it was such a sudden change of pace. 🙂

      • Foshizzel says:

Yeah I am going with Sora was sent to a game world and it’s up to Shiro to save him.

buubuu… There is one voice to describe it all: PUCHIKO-NYU.

Jiji has been exposed as a shotacon.
    “Hey you assholes, don’t stop-desu.” -50 points!

NGNL has perfected mood swing/breaking. Just when you thought it was safe… the mood does a 180!

Soon… we will see the bastard child of Gal*gun and Left4Dead… But not next week’su~ For next we get… um… umm… I can’t remember… All I can remember is Shiro trying to molest Steph and Jibril begging forgiveness from her master Shiro. Hmmm… I can’t seem to remember anything else… Oh well… *scratches head* Sora? Is that a sky or someone? Don’t recall.

And so much cute angry kemonomimi musume!!! Bat-Flugel! Hanging from the elevator and pushing buttons. Shiro has also been watching too much Sherlock Holmes TV series.

    • Foshizzel says:

Miyuki FTW! I loved her voice this week!

+1000000 points for you for being awesome <3

      Sora come back T________T

  3. Wanderer says:

One theory going around about what happened at the end is that Clammy/Kurami and her Elven partner have stepped in to challenge Sora, because she thinks that she needs to stop him before he dooms all of Imanity. It would match with Sora’s comments about how the people outside didn’t actually have the courage to back up their complaints about his rule, but when things started glitching he said he’d been waiting for someone with more backbone (implying that whoever it was that showed up was someone who had the courage to challenge him directly). It would also fit what we know of Clammy/Kurami’s character.

I’m somewhat in favor of this theory myself, as it seems to fit Sora’s final dialogue more than the idea that the game had somehow started without Aschente being declared.

    • belatkuro says:

I’ll just say that those scenes of Kurami and Fii last episode when they were talking about the state of Imanity and this episode were not in the novels and were definitely added for a good reason.
The author is supervising the anime and handled the screenplay of this episode specifically.

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

Assuming that these two characters called “Fii” and “Kurami” exist, from what I remember of V3C1, it’s heavily implied that that conversation did take place but not exactly described.

        And I want my Plum.

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

I like that theory, and based on scientific evidence, it is indeed a very strong theory. Nobel prize heading your way… 0>:3

    • Foshizzel says:

That is a sound theory! I could see it coming true and it reminds me of Bleach I know strange example but take Kenpachi for instance he only fights strong people so weak people are not really a challenge which makes him a lot like Sora who wants a good game.

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

An one more thing: Would someone with a background in Latin and/or European languages please clear up whether its acciente or aschente… because acciente does actually have a proper meaning.

  4. Puffin says:

The more that I think about it, the more Sora not actually existing is becoming believable. Not that he never existed mind you, just that as we know him now he never did.

The way I envision it, ever since some interactions between them alluded to in the past he has been a mentor for her combining her natural intellect with the ability to interact with others. Throughout the show we have only really seen Sora do any of the real interactions (the speech, the dramatic expositions, the deductions) while Shiro has always played a comic/side roll. This is further supported by Sora explaining how he is better at the games that require human interaction (dating sims, grand strategy, diplomacy). Perhaps Shiro created a multiple personality after some tragic event in the past to allow her to cope with her now empty world and has actually just been completing the actions of both of the roles. The only puzzling thing is if this were the case, why would she subconsciously remove him now after only challenging the Warbeasts. Of course this is all just speculation and I could totally sound like a clod after the next episode.

Sorry for the wall of text, kind of got carried away there.

    • Foshizzel says:

I will say I did think the same thing about Sora not being real and made up by Shiro but I agree why would she drop him now before the whole WarBeast challenge? That seems crazy but hey its a good theory.

I don’t mind the wall of text its perfectly fine! We love reading them xD

  6. skylion says:

They put nekomimmi on my LOLi! And Sawashiro, too! First in line to feint, blood loss imminent!

Yeah, what’s up Sora? Will Shiro eventually lose her memories of you? That would be a kindness…

  7. theblackcoyote says:

Sora not existing kinda doesn’t make sense when you consider the circular breathing move he and Shiro used in their game with Jibril. I find the theory involving Kurami to be more plausible (only because I want to see her break-down in tears again)

    • Foshizzel says:

True that! I don’t really support that idea of Sora not being real because that would create a lot of holes in the story up until this point.

    • Puffin says:

Good point! I completely blanked on that when writing. If only to try and maintain my idea the only possible explanation I can think of would be for Shiro to have just imagined the circular breathing as a way to calm herself to better conserve her air use. As for holes in the story, many of them could solved with anime logic though I really hope it does not come to that as it would make the show lose a lot of credibility for me.

      • Foshizzel says:

Np Puffin! It is a very interesting theory and I am curious to see the full explanation soon xD

Sora will own all those lame WIXOSS players!

I can’t tell what those cards look like more. Duel Monsters or WIXOSS. Neither are games that have been pleasant… for the players, that is.

So, without words and by using their culture, the werebeasts are practically saying to the other species that magic is nothing compared to the ingenuity of technology and science. They’re quite the arrogant bunch.

My favorite part has to be Sora owning Hatsune at every turn on his own turf. Absolutely no escape. How humiliating that must be for him. In retrospect, revealing how he knew everything would’ve been to his detriment if he wasn’t so skilled already. If not for that and Hatsune did lose anyway, he’d use the knowledge gained to “fix” any lingering loopholes, like the king’s inability to speak of what transpired and tending to any other form of communication.

But I can understand the Imanity’s desperation after his kamikaze bet. If not for the fact victory was assured with him at the reins, I’d have royally kicked his ass for making so steep a wager. We’re talking about the extinction of an entire species, his own species, no less. That’s like a serious form of betrayal to the people.

Sora faded into the Shadow Realm!! This will be a testing period for Shiro. We already know the two can’t function without each other; a fatal flaw out in the open for the longest while so this will be interesting to see where things go from here.

        • skylion says:

But then there is the collary that sufficiently expressed magic is indistinguishable from technology. Two magic boxes that contain the sliver of the same “moonorb” can call each other according the Principle of BlahBlahBlah.

Ugh, technobabble that stretches on forever.

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

Not yet… until we get into a heated discussion about dilithium matrices and how lens flares affect their stability…

            • Kyokai says:

Let me add Split Universe Theory and that infamous cat here then.

            • skylion says:

Is there butter on that cat, Kyo?

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

Cat lands buttered side down in the box.

            • skylion says:

Guys…Di Gi keeps collapsing the waveform! Guyyyyys!

      hahahah yeah xD

Both are tools, and means to an end. How you use them is what counts…

  10. Di Gi Kazune says:

Reading how NGNL is #2 on the men’s list and #9 on the women’s list… which is impressive considering this shows has exactly ONE male lead. Tet does not count because (s)he has not been positively identified.

Am actually surprised how well its doing considering:
    1) It’s not from a Kyoto studio
    2) It’s not from a Kyoto studio
    3) It’s not from a Kyoto studio

    *goes back to squealling PUCHIKO-CHAN!!!*
