Jibril-“OMFG WHAT IS THIS GLORIOUS OBJECT?!”
It is finally time to take over the library after we have a mini game of Shiritori!? Yeah that seems to be an odd choice for a game in this series, but for most of us watching we tend to only see this game pop up in slice of life anime as a way to provide some kind of entertainment for bored characters. That said I loved how creative the studio used Shiritori as a concept by making everything that Sora and Jibril say magically come to life before them! I even laughed at the hilarious idea of removing certain body parts from the girls? Yeah that was a bit off the wall for me and certainly it will either make you laugh or it will make you roll your eyes because obviously that was just a way to sneak in some random fanservice, but honestly I feel that No Game No Life balances that quite well or does it? I can certainly see some people being turned off by it; however that was not really the main focus because it was mostly about Sora doing his best to throw Jibril off her game! So what else happened? Other than the Shiritori game being played out and Sora and Shiro messing around with Jibril we had poor old Steph being used as a guinea pig and it will probably become the debate of the episode aka the treatment of Steph was it bad or was it good? I feel it was a bit of both for her character so far even though she is really the fanservice element right now, but eventually she will have her moment in the future and who knows maybe with Jibirl and a few other girls yet to appear maybe they can take some of the abuse away from Steph for a while? I certainly hope so! So what kind of non-board game would you love to see from No Game No Life? Personally I would love to see some kind of video game inspired arc with Shiro or Sora playing some MMORPG, FPS, Racing game or maybe even a dating sim.

Oh my god what a fantastic episode! I never thought Shiritori could be such an epic game when the objects or phrases come to life especially when you do things like take away the planets crust, mantle, oxygen and the air? That was insane and of course all the random in your face fanservice, but like I said before that part of No Game No Life will either make you laugh every time or it will cause you to simply roll your eyes. So what was the highlight for you? It was tough for me to choose because damn I loved just about everything this week and it was really refreshing to see Shiro and Sora interact with Jibril instead of Steph, but in terms of best girl so far I will continue to say that Steph is still number one with Jibril easily coming in second! I know some of you are like wait a minute where is Shiro on your list? I like her a lot but for now she is just the goofy sidekick character type even though she certainly has her fun moments. Also I did not forget about the “kiss” she shared with her brother, but if anyone even calls it a kiss I will laugh because technically he was giving her some air so think of it more as a CPR moment.

The game does not affect the players directly, thus even when the air disappeared around them, the air in their lungs would still be remain. The LN makes an example of how if someone says heart, the players’ hearts will not disappear.

Jibril, this girl haha, reminds me of sena from Haganai. I think she made the episode for me, all the silly stuffs.
Pretty fun episode all in all, the game was simple, but was very fun to see what they’d say, and its always a surprise with Sora, each episode is awesome like that haha.

Let me correct the technicalities. It is NOT CPR since the C component of CardioPulmonaryResuscitation is absent. Unless they are giving chest compressions as well (which they definately are not but are enjoying a lovely french kiss but that is besides it). As someone put it, circular breathing is a more apt descriptor. Mouth to Mouth/Kiss of Life/Rescue breaths is appropriate.

Oh man, that was the best game of shiritori ever. I loved how in the end it became a crazy science war. The perfect amount of action with concise, clever explanations of their master plan. The gaming sections of No Game No Life are SO DAMN GOOD.

As good as this was, I think I like it better when Kuuhaku is in more trouble, like they were during the chess match. It’s a lot less satisfying to me when it’s “Ah, from the first move we had already won”. It gives less credit to the opponent and game itself.
I did like that they thanked Steph for (a word lifted from somewhere else) “tanking” the dangerous things. It’s a role that can sometimes get forgotten.

Eh, I wouldn’t say they won flawlessly. It was still more or less a gamble. There was no guarantee at all that Jibril would use “anjaku”(I refuse to use the translation CR/HS used). It still banked on Jibril’s pride and Sora’s provocation. Calculated but still a risk on its own.
Even Sora admitted in the novels that while he had prepared for 20 or more words had Jibril not opted to use “anjaku”, he was still at a loss beyond that.
