Origami is feeling curious about her new cast members.

Yoooooooo! What is up fellow Date a live fans! Yes I did not forget about this series and this time I went with video from the episodes instead of screen shots, but all of the video is sped up by four hundred percent! Why? Because I was a bit lazy! Anyway sorry for the delay.

About

Is huge anime fan from Florida! who loves to watch anime and also enjoys drawing and collecting pictures, my favorite genre of anime has to be Mecha, there is just something awesome about giant robots beating the crap out of each other! Other than that type of show, I love a good comedy or action series :D

Hey, it’s got twins, so a twin release is fine, too.

The show is enjoyable, but it feels like “I’m trying to find my feet. Yeah, I should have found them last season, but…reasons!”

    • Foshizzel says:

      Twins are great <3

Yeah I think the new season suffers much like every other 2nd season especially in episode count! Remember Kore wa zombie s2? It also only managed to get 10 episodes so I just don't think Date a live is popular or was it even popular to begin with? The same can be said for the Neptunia series even though I know that they have successful games I guess?

      • skylion says:

It’s like it was just over the line to net a new season. I’m not exactly sure how they rate middling success in the industry, but if it was my money, I wouldn’t have put it here.

        • Highway says:

We really don’t have anything near a complete picture to determine whether this show “should” have gotten a second season. Maybe the show’s disc sales weren’t super good, but the merchandising side was killing. Heck, of the 6 items I’ve bought regarding anime, one is a Tohka Yatogami nendoroid. So if the show is bringing in those dollars, and with a second season you can introduce characters like Yuzuru and Kaguya, then you make the call to do the second season. I’m sure there are series that we’d all like to see get more love, but the business case has to be made, it’s not just a question of studio capacity.

A lot of the failure of those other series we mention was the lack of material. Kore wa Zombie felt like it had no material. Nyarlko had no material. Samurai Brides had no material. This doesn’t feel like that, it feels like a continuation of the adaptation.

          • skylion says:

So, I guess I would have to break down and buy all the Chaika’s to see that show get somewhere. Well, not really. I just like saying, “All the Chaika’s”

It does make me wonder what will happen when customer demand changes the landscape. If it moves full streaming (quality still needs to be perfected) will discs even be a determinant.

            • Highway says:

“Sales” will always be a determinant. The goal is always to monetize your effort. If the deliverable stops being discs, then something else will be sold. The music industry is already there, with physical media largely irrelevant. Digital delivery of video has been tougher so far because it’s multiple times the size of audio, but we’re getting to bandwidth and storage sizes that make it feasible. So whether people buy discs in a box (and if they continue to make attractive boxes and pack in special items, some people will continue to buy those) or whether they buy a simple right to watch the show (which is an option I think should be done), they’re all sales that get booked, and they should be priced to make the revenue and profit they want if they meet their sales goals.

          • BlackBriar says:

Kore wa Zombie improved a little by giving more exposure to the magical world, its backstory, though a brief one of a coup d’état and introducing Chris who played a key part in the story.

Because it never ventured into anything new, Nyaruko only went full circle following the formula of the first season. A disappointment because it was fun to watch when it was fresh and there was no knowing of what to expect.

Samurai Brides was the true failure. Compared to the first season that had action, fanservice and a fairly structured storyline, the second season only brought up new girls but never made use of them and forced a crisis at the end where it could’ve been better utilized at the halfway point the series.

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

Yes, Nyaruko S2 was a disappointment because it really didn’t flesh out more about the characters. Compared to S1, S2 was a huge disappointment.

        • Di Gi Kazune says:

I am actually surprised this got a season 2. The first season started off quite meh and it wasn’t interesting until we got to Kotori. STILL Origami’s development was really a trainwreck.

That said, Tohka’s development was just as bad or even worse considering that she *is supposed* to be the main character ship. (no, not the Fraxinus.) Out of all the harem, Kotori followed by Kurumi got developed the best. Yoshino was there just to fulfil the loliquota after her appearance. Origami we understand her motives but it was just terrible to watch how it unfolded.

My understanding from what fragments of the LN I see is that it is supposed to start developing Tohka’s character in season 2… but only after the twins and man-hating idol’s arc are done.

          • d-LaN says:

In the latest volume Origami actually had some development that makes ppl (& me) feel sympathetic/pity to her so there something, I guess.

      • d-LaN says:

DAL S1 did sold well/decently, its just that Kadokawa only gives 10 episodes for anime adaptation of works under them nowadays.

Neptunia got 12 episodes + 1 OVA though? The series definitely sold well enough for NISA to localized the mkII, Victory & PP (an idol sim) game. There also Re;Birth 1 by IFI.

  2. Highway says:

I thought episodes 2 and 3 got a lot better than episode 1 was. Probably because they didn’t treat Tohka like a shrew. And the way she worked with Shidou to get him out of the onsen, instead of freaking out about why he was there with the twins was a lot more fun. Even though the twins were trying to jump his body the whole time, she didn’t lose it with them around. That made her a much more enjoyable character to have around.

The show’s still dumb, but it always was. And a little bit of jealousy is ok, just not those mega-jealous levels from the first episode. Getting much more fun to watch.

  3. Di Gi Kazune says:

Still needs more Kotori or Kurumi… (Hey the double Ks). Or at least Yoshinon. YoshinoN. YoshinoN.

    • skylion says:

She’s busy catching up on soaps…

      • BlackBriar says:

Hasn’t she learned those programs are evil? Look at what it did to Tohka. Well, can’t really use her as an example since she’s naïve and easily influenced.

    • Highway says:

10 seconds per episode of Yoshino and Yoshinon watching soaps is plenty. And I’d be plenty happy if Kurumi didn’t show up at all.

      • BlackBriar says:

Ack, that’s blasphemy! Things gets a lot better when someone as refined, playful and sadistic as Kurumi shows up. The fact Kurumi plays by her own rules and doesn’t hold back on whatever means she chooses to meet her objectives while being charismatic is what makes her so appealing. She could commit atrocious acts and I’d find it tough to scold her.

  4. BlackBriar says:

Those twins Kaguya and Yuzuru are too erotic, whether in bondage suits or swimsuits. And that intro from episode 3. Damn you, Shido, you lucky bastard! I’m risking a nosebleed here. As if it wasn’t enough trouble trying to name “best girl” in this series already. Yuzuru acts just like a Misaka clone thanks to her machine style speech.

I’ll admit the second season has had a stale start but seeing the girls doing their thing is making it a bit easy to bear. If only we didn’t have that ridiculous soap opera fiasco for the first episode. For a series with a limited number of episodes, the priority is assuring sure it makes a good impression.

  5. d-LaN says:

The 2nd & 3rd episodes is definitely an improvement over the first. The twins are very entertaining especially Kaguya and her chuunibyou. Special point goes to the “God Finger” scene SYMMETRICAL DOCKING! XD And again, Tohka in here is a lot more understanding which make the first episode more jarring.

And then there Ellen and the newly introduced DEM Industry. We now finally have an antagonist faction and I’m curious as to what their purpose of capturing Tohka is. Though Ellen, a powerful Wizard that keep having her plans foiled by the I My Me trio is fun XP

PS Yoshino/n line abt her having a lot of free time is a nod at her not having much of a role in this arc. =)

Btw, here the second trailer of the PS3 spin-off game which contains the game OP song “Installation” that will be included in the “Trust in you” single.

I didn’t mentioned it the last time, but Arusu robotic-like pupil is a bit unnerving to look at. Not to mention that Black Arusu glowing yellow eye is downright chilly eve though she is the type of character I like. Still, the OOC antics of the haremmates is amusing like Maidrumi or Idol origami XD
