Sumairii here with a quick ImoCho summary up to episode 8, because I can’t be bothered with going through the episodes that I’ve missed in great detail. So basically episode 6 Hiyori gets close to having sexy time with Yuuya-oniichan but gets pussy-blocked by Mitsuki. Nothing new here, except for how close Hiyori actually got to getting the D. The one good thing that did come out of this though, is another fine demonstration of Yuuya’s tremendous self-control and conscious attempt to be a good big bro. Props to the guy, but I must say the conclusion he reaches about Hiyori (whom he can see sometimes) and Mitsuki being cosplay lesbian lovers is a bit of a stretch. Also, that post-credits scene. Snake? Snake?! SNAAAAKE!!!!

Mitsuki isn’t having any of this.
Breezing on to episode 7, we switch gears to Mitsuki and Hiyori checking out sports clubs. I’m still skeptical about Mitsuki’s body being able to surpass its previous physical limits once Hiyori is in control, because I don’t think that’s how it works. But then again we are talking about ghosts, so maybe I should just take it as is. It’s not like being possessed by a dead girl is much more reasonable in the first place. My favorite part of the episode though, has to be Neko’s highly meta, troll “play” and the several dream fake-outs that follow. I don’t remember Mitsuki herself ever being possessive of Yuuya in any way, so clearly the play was highly effective at pushing that front. Which we should expect since it was Neko’s brainchild.

And now we’re caught up to episode 8. The main bit here is the deepening relationship between Yuuya and Mitsuki. While she’s been more or less stand-off-ish until now, Mitsuki really opened up to Yuuya at the aquarium. And by open up I mean she has an orgasm twice in front of him… and in front of two innocent little boys as well as those two unfortunate girls who previously saw them “making out” at the pool. I jest, but it’s nice that she’s now able to talk about her childhood with her new brother. And it’s also sweet that said brother would go so far as to welcome her back home so that she won’t come home to an empty house. When you think about it, this all boils down to Mitsuki being lonely as an only child of a single, working mother. So it’s great that she now has a slightly bigger family and a caring brother. I still wish Yuuya wouldn’t be so forceful though. He might actually be thoughtful at times, but when he’s just being pushy and inconsiderate, it usually ends poorly for Mitsuki. On the bright side, at least now it’s not pee that she’s wetting herself with.

What is White Fox doing with this show? It was supposed to be a bit of a lark, light on the substance and heavy on the service. And while there’s been a light-hearted feel to a lot of the show, it certainly hasn’t shied away from trying to make a bit more of a statement. From the nostalgic feelings of Sonico getting Daydream from Toma to the ‘Don’t take the easy way out’ message from the weight-loss cream zombies, there’s been a lot more story than anyone expected. And this week, the normally busy and noisy world of Sonico gets exchanged for a quiet introspective trip to the countryside. Walking, hitching rides, she meets people in a quiet town, visits an onsen, and eventually makes it up to the top of the hill to watch the meteor shower with the rest of the townsfolk.

Social commentary follows, so feel free to skip ahead to Maken-ki if you’re not interested. I’ve also said this before, but this show really is giving a nice depiction of real life. Fun things happen, sad things happen, but mostly people just go through life doing things. And most lives are a lot like Sonico’s: people just going along doing things. I think it’s great that they’re animating a show like this, because I think it’s an important message / non-message: It’s ok for your life to be just a lot of normal events. Yes, Sonico is a little bit special, being a model and playing in a rock band. But her band isn’t famous. She’s not an idol. And she’s not a particularly famous model. She’s just doing things she likes, but being responsible about it. The other thing that I really like about the show is that they show normal people. Sonico, Fuuri, and Suzu are all fairly realistic. There are skinny people, and there are some pudgy people, ones who are shown as people who are cared for like in this episode. I thought it was really great that the guy that the lady on the bus wanted to see was a big fat guy. And I’m guessing this other girl is going to be someone significant, since we’ve seen her at least twice. But I asked what White Fox was doing with the show before, and I think my answer is: whatever it is, keep doing it.

Maken-Ki! Two – 06
Nothing to see here folks you better move along.
Time for some more giant boob adventure time with Maken-ki! I know I said that this week we SHOULD get some action scenes; however this episode was basically turned into a very borderline hentai thanks to Uruchi going through some rough “training” after she was elected to join the all powerful Leadership Committee?! Also I guess that Yuuka and Furan both decided that Kengo and Takeru should be kicked out along with Inaho? I would agree that the two guys should be kicked out because they really are not doing much and Inaho is always off in her own little world or clinging to Takeru’s arm. Besides the lack of real fighting (I don’t think we will have any Maken fights this season) there really was not a lot for me to enjoy! That and I never really liked Uruchi as a character because she seems to come off as a really creepy stalker who wants to get busy with Haruko! Sorry Uruchi you are better off stalking someone else because clearly you are not on Haruko’s radar.

Haruka drowns Yuu
Congratulations on getting through the festival performance everyone! Now it’s time for an after party, and what better place than Kotone’s house where there’s an indoor heated pool. That means it’s time for pool hijinks, including drowning Mitsuki, who can’t swim, and even loses her top along with her glasses. Mitsuki really is the butt-monkey of this show, isn’t she. But she’s fine with that, because she gets to watch Haruka in a swimsuit. But trouble is brewing when Kotone’s little sister tries to challenge that ‘dorobo-neko’ Shizuku for Kotone. And Shizuku, hearing that Kotone has a promised fiance, starts to feel like she’s just a plaything for Kotone. But that’s not how Kotone really feels about Shizuku, and tries to support her, along with some help from Yamada the maid, in the race for Kotone. And Kaede starts to pick up on Shizuku’s feelings for Kotone, even if Yuzu still denies that they’re anything more than platonic friends.

The rest of the show has Yuu whining about the scarf she wants, which isn’t the neckwarmer that she inherits from Mitsuki. And after whining about how she wants the white one (which Shizuku bought the apparent last one) she gets her hands on one and immediately changes to an orange one. This was probably the least cute segment of the whole series so far, because, let’s be honest, Yuu’s whining is the worst part of the show. Thankfully, it was nowhere near half the episode.

Something I just realized after reading your comment is how quiet and respectful of the audience this episode of Sonico was. There wasn’t a constant stream of narration. There wasn’t beating the ‘lessons’ we’re supposed to learn into our heads. There wasn’t any “This time I learned…” No explanation at all. Just experiencing the things that Sonico was. Very nicely done.

Super Sonico The Animation – 07: For me, this is the kind of show you can kick and watch without having high expectations. It’s simply a nice anime with a cute but humorously naïve lead. A solo trip? Her manager must be worrying his head off trying to figure if Sonico is able to venture on her own.

It’s a minor character quirk which, in the context of the show, gives other people in the world the opportunity to be nice and interact with a pretty and nice girl. It’s barely an imposition, and it’s certainly not indicative of irresponsibility.

I wonder if the end goal of the show is to ‘out’ all the relationships to the other girls in the group. I mean, Haruka seemed pretty sure about Kotone and Shizuku, and told Yuu as much. And now Kotone and Shizuku have seen Haruka and Yuu making out, although there’s the barest shred of deniability there. And now Kaede has wondered if Shizuku means more with kissing, even if Yuzu is in denial about it. Would knowing about the two other couples make Kaede and Yuzu think about it with each other? *hehehe*
And I wonder what Mitsuki’s opinion of Haruka x Yuu would be. Would it just be jealousy? Would she object to them being together because they’re both girls, even though she wants the same relationship with Haruka?
