Super Sonico The Animation – 06
Splashing time!
I know this is the header pic, but it’s good enough to warrant a bigger one.
Fuuri-chan looks nice in her swimsuit
Ouka Service
It’s zombie time for Sonico and pals! With a bit of moralizing thrown in about trying to take the quick way out. Ouka is made the spokesmodel for a weight loss cream (because she totally needed to lose weight), starting right off with some misrepresentation. And for the product launch, she gets to go on a luxury ship, and invites Sonico and friends for fun. So Sonico, Suzu-chan, and Fuuri-chan go along to hobnob like the rich and famous.
Zombies!
But using an untested product on everyone on the boat turns them all into almost zombies, starving and trying to eat anything they can. And when Ouka bails on them, it leaves the three girls from FAV running for their lives, eventually jumping off the ship… just as everyone returns to normal. All’s well that ends well! They were a bit heavy-handed with the messages here, like having Ouka claim that she got that way because of the cream, and trying to take the easy way out. They also have Sonico claim she has ‘trouble spots’ and Suzu and Fuuri claim that she’s more beautiful the way she is. By the way, I also see that Fuuri is a bit zaftig herself, which I think is fine. I really like the way that the show handles these body styles. And it doesn’t even judge the people who tried to use the cream to get thinner too harshly, directing more ire to the company that didn’t do proper testing.

Maken-Ki! Two – 05
Aki puts all her spell power in her magical boobs.
Sooooo what are we doing on Maken-ki this week? Oh right Takeru trapped alone on a island with the school nurse Aki while both of them were hand-cuffed together and it was all because she didn’t want to come clean and tell her family that she didn’t really have a boyfriend? While we roll our eyes at the rehashed To-Love-Ru plot with having two characters cuffed together it did provide the ecchi-ness plot; however I did find it weak for an adult character to latch onto a student and use them for blackmail to hide the truth from her parents but this is Maken-ki and I don’t think anyone takes this stuff serious or do they? I mean the basic idea of any episode of Maken-ki is to place Takeru into some kind of ecchi scenario and all you have to do is insert bouncing boobs, tight fitting outfits and add in really random gimmick or item that makes everyone naked and you have just created an episode! Congratulations…
Elementary level Aki! Maybe she is related to Hotaru of Non Non Biyori?
Best pillows ever created.
OH MY GOD SHE KILLED Takeru!
HELLOOO NURSEEEEE!

Sakura Trick – 06
Shizuka kawaii
Finally more of Shizuka and Kotone
Yuu and Haruka on the balcony
It’s time for the festival, and everyone’s staying overnight to finish the costumes. I didn’t realize before that the Snow White reading was not a class project, just one by the 6 girls in our show. So they don’t have a lot of help with it, but they get it done.
Haruka’s pushing Yuu down now!
Of course, spending the night at school means spending the night together, and after a while everyone conveniently pairs off as Kaede and Yuzu go check on the class, while Kotone and Shizuka go up on the roof to share some time. It was nice to get a little bit of development from these two, learning that Shizuka isn’t really a ‘joiner’ kind of person, but seeing Kotone always trying to enjoy things has made her be more interested in trying them to see why she likes them so much. And according to Kotone, one of the keys of enjoying things is being with the person you love. But it’s a good thing that the others were off doing their own thing for apparently quite a while, as Haruka and Yuu take the opportunity to roll around on the floor, kissing and embracing.
Double Witched!
We can’t have an episode without a little of Haruka’s jealousy, tho, so Yuu spends time at the cultural fair with Mitsuki, eating all the things that Haruka wanted to eat with her. They do make up – with the help of one of Yuu’s hairpins, and end up kissing during the whole keionbu performance… and clean up and more. One of these times, you just know that Haruka’s gonna grab a handful of Yuu, tho.

I loved the Micheal Jackson/Evil Dead riff they did with the Sonico ED. I watched that quite a few times.

I can’t say I’m a huge fan of zombies, so it really didn’t do much for me. Actually, I pretty much dislike every horror trope (monsters, etc), so I really didn’t mind the reversibility of the condition presented here.
I am surprised how much Thriller is a thing in Japan, and even wondered if that had an effect on the Olympics, where the Ice Dancing pair of the Shibutani siblings (Americans of Japanese heritage) incorporated it into their dance. I’m pretty sure this is the third Thriller homage I’ve seen in anime, and definitely sure it’s the second.

I used to be such a HUGE zombie fan. But then I guess I got all hipster. Or just tired of it.
I like how the took the most recognizable parts of the dance and made it cool. Plus, Evil Dead grotty house and chainsaw.

I probably overstated it by a lot. I’m not a fan at all of zombies, or werewolves or even vampires (except very cartoony examples of each). More like active dislike. This worked because it was just playing with zombies and everyone was ok at the end.

So basically, you’re not a fan of any kind of monster. That’s a bummer, though. I think most people like them because they can do a lot with them in their imagination.

I like daikaiju monsters (like Godzilla), and jokey monsters (like Teen Wolf), but I don’t really care for horror stories at all, and just about every serious monster show is a horror story. So that moves them out of my interest quite definitively.
I generally think normal people are interesting enough.

Maken-Ki! Two – 05: Handcuffing her daughter to her supposed lover on an island alone. It’s clear what’s going here. Aki’s mother wants grandchildren in a hurry so she’ll use whatever means necessary to do it. And Takeru has a good catch if he actually decides to stay with a MILF who has an erotic body like that.
Hahaha!! Nice one! That’s a definite reference from the Animaniacs!

Slim zombie gel, because eating and getting thinner is serious business

Sakura Trick – 06: So much passionate kissing that one has to wonder when they’ll eventually start stripping each other. Halfway through the series and I’m surprised there are two girls that still haven’t joined the yuri bandwagon. Though it’s only a matter of time and I’d say Mitsuki is almost there because of Haruka but if so, it’s going to be an unrequited love.
It’s was hard not to laugh at one of Haruka’s insane fantasies. The one where she and Yuu have a child that has Haruka’s hair color but Yuu’s hair style. Now how did imagine that would work out? There’s a particular idea but that’s all out hentai territory.

Super Sonico The Animation – 06: Zombie-like people in a show like Super Sonico is an odd twist but it worked well. Hmph, this could be used as an example to not always trust everything that’s being advertised. Products with too good to be true promises really need to be looked at closely. Who knows what chemicals are inside to those kinds of side effects?
There was something similar in Catwoman. An untested beauty cream was going to be released nationwide and the problem lied in the application itself. If it stops being applied, the person’s face slowly rots and disintegrates but if kept being used; the skin becomes hard as marble.
Suzu wanted to be a women’s pro wrestler, eh? If she saw what had to be done to become one in Sekai de Ichiban Tsuyoku Naritai!, she might reconsider that dream completely.
