Quattro Full Accel not fast enough?
It’s time to kick things into high gear and get some Pandora vs. Pandora fighting going on, and we got a little taste of that in a Top 5 Battle between #3 ranked Julia Munberk & #5 ranked Cassie Lockheart. What is this, Auburn vs. Mizzou? Anyway, Cassie looks to be fighting an uphill battle with her Mach 2 going against Julia’s Stigma Satellite Mach 3. I loved that we got a little bit of personality from Cassie with her enjoyment of the battle, tasting her own blood with a very slight grin and saying she would “rewrite” Julia’s incorrect data. I’ve enjoyed Kugimiya Rie as Cassie throughout the series and she got to do some cool lines this week as Cassie.
Elizabeth’s back <3
Elizabeth came back into the action, and the pics above are kind of a greatest hits of her character overall. While it was cool to see her walk right past Chiffon without a care, my personal favorite was her blushing and childish spat with Satella; it’s a side of Eli we (and especially her fellow Pandoras) haven’t seen before, and it was adorable. She’s gonna go up against Charles to let Amelia and the others push forward, but it’s difficult to expect much from Eli in a battle against the #4 ranked Pandora considering how strong Charles is and the fact that Eli just woke up after being out for days from the torture.

Charles got a flashback this week, revealing Spencer Marks to be her (adoptive) Father which would explain her strong stance opposite of the E-Pandora, though the emotional cracks were revealed in feeling some level of regret after killing that “imitation”. This has been expected ever since she killed Gina back in ep. 4, and the flashback kind of helps to make the viewer realize she’s not a bad person by her own design, just influenced by one who accepts the role of villain in an effort to “help humanity”.
The soundtrack this week was really booming and is a strong advertisement for the OST whenever that is released. Masaru Yokoyama has been bringing great tunes to the series, and I felt it added to Cassie vs. Julia as well as the first 8 minutes of the episode. I didn’t notice until now he’s also doing the Yuushibu OST. I wonder if he’s doing good work there, also…

I want to know how anime girls get their upper lips to bend like that.
So a standard date episode to follow up a standard fanservice episode. All things considered, this was one of the better episodes of the show to date, a surprise for one that had no action or fancy animation in it whatsoever. Some of the gags were actually quite funny, such as Phino comparing cockroaches in the human world negatively (positively?) to her father, or her being proud of spending exactly the same amount as her paycheck. The girl really takes childish moe to another level, and it’s admittedly cute at times.
Of course, we’ve got a full grown man opposite her as her romantic partner. That part didn’t work quite as well, though I’ll give the show credit for making a better attempt than most harem comedies. This episode being the 9th, we’ve seen these two meet and get to know each other fairly organically. That these two have affection for each other feels not just like a function of them being the protagonists, but rather like the natural result of their interactions. Still, I’m getting tired of the wearing-new-dress-makes-girl-beautiful trope. It’s as tiresome as spend-5-minutes-in-rain-to-get-a-cold or can’t-drink-from-same-cup-because-it’s-indirect-kiss or takes-one-bite-of-one-item-from-multi-part-meal-and-declares-whole-meal-delicious tropes. A lazy shortcut to push the relationship forward.
And half my prediction from last week seems to be correct, in that there are parties who want Phino to return and become the demon lord. But it’s heroes who want it, in order to get the war economy started again. This, of course, is a classic case of the Broken Window Fallacy, with which one can convince oneself that creating destruction in order to stimulate spending for reconstruction is a route to economic prosperity. Thing is, the broken window fallacy actually works in the short run – it does get people to spend money, which is why World War 2 is often credited for getting the US out of the Great Depression. More recently, during the (on-going, really) Great Recession, Nobel prize winning economist Paul Krugman famously stated that an alien invasion would pull us out. In the long term, things break down, because spending money to fix destruction has opportunity cost; that same money could have been spent for something more productive if that destruction hadn’t happened. And in the case of international/intergalactic wars or a demon lord rising to power, you have death to think about as well: losing a human life means a lot of lost potential productivity.
My prediction: Phino gets pulled away involuntarily, probably due to Amada. She either gets brainwashed or coerced into taking on the role. Raul needs to put on his hero pants again to go face her, whereupon they collaborate (probably with All A) to take down whoever is keeping Phino, perhaps giving them an economics lesson in the process.
Or maybe I’m being too hopeful here. Given the show’s history, it’s more likely this will be resolved peacefully next episode, and the final 2 episodes will just be Star Trek grandpa coming and molesting all the girls.

It’s finally the day of the contest! Well, no, not the jousting contest. It’s the Day-Before-the-Jousting-Contest Miss Winford Beauty Contest. And thanks to the comedic relief of Bertille (who I never imagined would be this major a character), the completely unfounded rumor starts that Takahiro will be the begleiter of the girl who wins the contest. I can’t even say this was something misheard, just Bertille making shit up. But it does get all the girls into the contest. Swimsuit shopping ensues, and then preparing for the contest which is, of course, won by Celia by popular acclaim.
Getting an eyeful
And of course, along the way, we have Peep-ahiro stuck in the “Winford-kun” mascot in the girl’s changing room. I gotta admit, it’s not the worst mascot ever, either. But of course, all the girls have to give him a hug in their underwear, so it’s a good thing there was that big horse head for cover. You have to give him a little credit for not totally blowing it, a la Rito Yuuki or Issei Hyoudou, and he manages to get out of there without anyone thinking he’s a big perv (although Takahiro is amazingly resistant to this anyway). He even gets Noelle stripping in his room and flipping Mio’s skirt at him with no repercussions, of course, he barely notices, too.
Not all of these girls are candidates for Takahiro (and Celia goes off-model for a few frames, ew)
I may have mentioned it before, but I do think WalRoma is doing well not making any girl be the obvious winner. I thought for sure that it would be Mio from the beginning, but Noelle definitely looks like a contender and so does Lisa. At this point, I’d only rule out Celia and Akane, the former because she’s just left out of too many Takahiro events and the latter because she’s just not that into Takahiro.

This episode of Freezing was pretty good, although I hope it doesn’t devolve into too much more of a size-measuring contest between the Pandoras. I also think the trope of “You guys go on ahead, I’ll fight this person who is in our way” is kind of silly. Why would the person just let the others go? “I was gonna stop you, but then someone else came to fight me, so you just go on ahead!”
Definitely glad to see Elizabeth Mably back up and active. And the only thing that would surprise me at this point is if they DON’T get a full-fledged Nova attack, since they’ve been saying about how awful it would be at that location.

A show where they went down the Celia route (even if I don’t know what happened) would probably be pretty good. She’s a good character. Actually, all the characters are good characters in this show, except maybe Fiona.
I was mostly just saying how the show seems to be going, because at some point you figure it will pick a route to follow. I’m actually pretty surprised they backed off the Mio route so much, to the point where it almost would seem odd if they finished up with Mio winning. It definitely seems more Noelle and Lisa focused.

I gotta say that Moe is not my favorite character. Not a fan of the hyper know-it-all. I’d have liked to see more disapproval of Juri from Jackal, since there is a right way to do this and she’s not doing it that way. And given that Juri’s gym seems to be doing well, you wonder why she has to do this anyway? Why not just openly challenge Sakura?
Maybe Misaki will give Sakura some tips on beating Juri?

But Sakura sure has been getting confident. I see she’s starting to enjoy putting other people in the “Boston Crab” if that smile she had while sparring with Moe didn’t indicate as much.
So it will be Sakura against Juri. When looked at from another point of view thanks to their seiyuus, it’s Kirino and Kuroneko stepping into the ring later on.
Looks like there will be some continuation, maybe even a second season since I understand about nearly 3 volumes of its manga. Apparently a fifth volume is in the works.

Sekai de Ichiban Tsuyoku Naritai!: I swear this series becomes more exciting with every passing episode. I’m so glad I didn’t drop it!! Sakura really can’t catch a break. Left and right, everyone wants a piece of her.
Moe is alright but a little too hyperactive. Definitely the type that follows, not leads. Her being a karate champion and the daughter of a pro wrestler actually already gives her a huge edge. So much that I’d say she’s progressed about 3 times faster than Sakura. Hell, she took Rio by surprise and that was a real eye opener. Introducing a new character this late in the series… I’m sensing a second season soon being put into the works.
I had a feeling Blue Panther/Juri would be Kana Hanazawa’s character since she hasn’t surfaced in the previous episodes. Damn, she took out Rio with ease. Sakura’s got her work cut out for her if the one she put so much effort into beating could be dealt with that easily. It’s nothing short of shocking finding out such a ruthless powerhouse of a girl is being voiced by a seiyuu known for playing cute, moe roles. Hana Kana already pulled an upset with Monogatari’s Nadeko.

Yuushibu – 09: Phino is just cute for a demon and though her antics are random and a bit over the top, they become easy to overlook. I knew she’d eventually blow her entire paycheck. It will serve as a good lesson to learn how to maintain a budget. The heroes are pretty selfish forcing her to become the next demon lord. She has no reason to force herself becoming the next successor just to satisfy their one sided desires.

I liked the development on Cassie embracing her Pandora life to protect her friends after last season when she was the damsel in distress towards the end. Tasting blood from her own wound in the middle of the fight makes look real feral.
Elizabeth’s back. Here’s hoping she gets some well deserved revenge for her unjustified torture and her family being ruined. With a persona like hers, her Limiter sure must have a lot to deal with serving her.
Chiffon and Charles are so inflexible. Orders or not, they can’t possibly live with themselves knowing what’s really going on. And Charles’ view on her father playing the villain for a just cause is naïve. Obviously, it hasn’t occured to her the possibility that he may be only one of the few with that line of thinking and everyone else is just in it for money power.

I’d agree with this being Vibration’s best ep. They said “Precious Comrade” a little much, but it did have meaning when Cassie used it. And to think that not long ago her boobs were being groped… probably a key to beating Julia, haha.
Serving Elizabeth… man, it would be so worth serving her. The series never really dives much into the Pandora/Limiter relationships, but I bet Eli might be sweet on him sometimes.
Bad thing for everyone else, really nobody can step up to Chiffon. You can do what Eli did, but in a fight she’s gonna mop the floor anyone opposing Pandora. And it’s a shame Charles has bought into her dad’s philosophy as she’s not properly processing what’s happening right in front of her.

This is so Ecchi, I feel as if I’m watching this because I’m dirty, but I swear it’s for the plot. I stil like these shows but wish the world would stop with all the fanservice.

Why stop with fanservice? I think it’s something good. I’ll admit I do get a little annoyed when shows get too male-gazey about it, like in the first High School DxD, when Issei and Rias are having a serious conversation at their training camp… and the camera’s just showing her boobs when she talks. That’s where I don’t particularly like it. That’s where I start agreeing with the whining about objectifying. But worked into the story? Or an incidental thing like in Freezing, where they’re discussing the world they’re in sitting around the pool? I don’t think having Elizabeth Mably naked at that point is bad.
It’s a little more difficult to deal with from a practical standpoint when there’s something that goes WAY beyond what the rest of the show has done. Ahem, Campione! But if the show’s in its spectrum, again no problem from me.

There’s no reason to feel ashamed watching these kinds of animes. Absolutely nothing wrong.
I disagree with that. Personally, I find the fanservice one of many outlets to cool off after an otherwise stressful day when you just want to sit back and relax. Like Highway is saying, it’s a hit and miss situation depending on the show. The ecchi aspect sometimes works with some shows and its stories and sometimes not.
The best examples where ecchi works with its anime stories are High School DxD, Hagure Yuusha no Estetica, To LOVE-Ru Darkness and Seikon no Qwaser.

Tentacles were one of the worst parts of Dakara boku ha, H ga dekinai, in that every monster was a tentacle monster, and then they had that part where they were whipping Lisara. Yeah, totally not my thing.
Of course, the mere presence of tentacles tends to go against what I want to see in that genre, which is mutual consent, enjoyment, and agency.

I’ve found mutual consent to be the best way to show relationships as well. I don’t think the day will ever come where they can have that in any tentacle related scenes.

I do want to backtrack a little, and just say that I’m not trying to attack you (and I don’t think the others are). It’s definitely part of a lot of cultures (especially if you are North American) that have very poor (in my opinion) attitudes about sexuality. The thing is, these are as close to genetically coded responses as you’re going to get. Enjoying this stuff is far more natural and fundamental than denying enjoyment is. And unless you’re hurting someone else, which it’s unlikely to do, whatever enjoyment you derive out of looking at cute or sexy girls is harmless both to you and others. There’s no crime, no harm, and therefore there really shouldn’t be any shame attached.

Walkure Romanze – 09: I can imagine some of the girls using the jousting tournament as an outlet for venting their frustrations because they didn’t win. LOL at Noel pulling an Asagi on Takahiro with her stripping. And I don’t understand why Bertille is so self conscious about her swimsuit. Her armor is way more scantily clad.
