Kind of a beach episode?

spring13-jrowYo all! Fosh and I discuss the going-ons of ep. 11 with the meeting between the Round Table and Eastal and also talk about the training camp that got Marielle her much desired trip to the beach. With Christmas coming up next week, we’ll try and get a post for ep. 12 up sooner than norm.

spring13-foshYooooooooo!! Sorry for the late post you know the drill and all with Christmas around the corner we tend to get really busy, but anyway time for the episode! Enjoy.

I have just realised that Serara is actually just a cover for an evil person. In reality, she is a shapeshifter!

  2. Joojoobees says:

I don’t think Shiroe has a harem. It probably is more accurate to say Akatsuki has a harem.

    • BlackBriar says:

Shiroe has his intelligence and an alliance of guild members that can be amassed into an army at any time. After all, he’s holding all the cards.

  3. Highway says:

I think the romantic tension in this show is more of a ‘will they / won’t they’ than a ‘which one gets picked’. Pairs are fairly well set (NyantaxSerara, TohyaxMinori, NaotsuguxMarielle (why does he resist????)), although I don’t know what will happen with the Princess, if she’ll pressure the Shiroe x Akatsuki pair.

I wonder if the more balanced male / female ratio is an intelligent choice by whatever force pulled these people into the game, in order to make it be more sustainable as a world than your typical MMO sausage party (my WoW raid group seems pretty high on the count of ladies, and we still only have 8-10 out of 25).

Last note: Krusty is such a typical character name. Doesn’t fit him at all, probably picked “oh, that’s pretty cool, I’ll go with that.” Everyone else has these cool names, and he’s just… Krusty.

    • Rathje says:

One thing I found living in Japan is that they have a REALLY different concept of what sounds sound “kakoi” and which don’t, than we do.

    • Nerazim says:

well, looking at the OP, i think Minori will be Akatsuki’s love rival or something so… i mean, Tohya’s just a protector or something, he’s her twin brother.

Krusty’s getting important, he needs a girl. Let’s give HIM the princess. They match nice.

  4. BlackBriar says:

Negotiations are always a slippery slope, whether it involves politicians or nobles. The real bitchy part of it all is that neither side wants to lose ground and be at the other’s mercy so tensions flare up easily if precautions aren’t taken.

Shiroe had it coming being chosen to deal with bureaucracy and information. All the tactics in the use of blackmail and other means to create the Round Table had to backfire on him in some way. With all those stares, if looks could kill, he wouldn’t stand a chance. Besides, they want peace so it’s only natural to send in the nerds instead of the brutes. They need precision not blunt instruments.

Some characters either don’t learn from their mistakes or just have rotten luck. Take Naotsugu for instance. If perversion is able to be spoken freely, make sure Akatsuki is not around to cause regrets. Poor Akatsuki. A ninja is supposed to protect its master but who’s going to protect her from her crazed stalker?

    • HannoX says:

Especially when her master sometimes uses her to pay off her crazed stalker.

      • BlackBriar says:

Which should already be considered a sign of unforgivable betrayal yet Akatsuki clings to him. Masochistic vibes, maybe?

        • HannoX says:

Seems that way, but maybe there’s more to it. We don’t know what their relationship was in the game before the Apocalypse. Maybe he helped her out when she was new to the game and she still feels loyal towards him because of it.

          • Rathje says:

I think the dress-up-doll thing is really meant just as a throwaway gag. I don’t think it’s actually meant to reflect on any of the actual relationships. Japanese love gag humor a lot more than Americans do.

My wife and I just ignore it and pretend it didn’t happen. More enjoyment that way.

            • BlackBriar says:

It’s becoming a reccuring thing that it’s been gradually impacting Akatsuki’s personality.

            • Joojoobees says:

I agree with Blackbriar that it is annoying because it affects my reading of the character. If it were one joke once, I could have let it go. When it happens all the time it makes it tough to remember how cool she seemed in the first few episodes.

Plus there has been no development of her character. At first it seemed she was going to be interesting, and I was looking forward to this show as a change from a certain show in which the OP main character soloed everything. Now the side characters are just jokes in service to Shiroe’s awesome abilities?

  5. Rathje says:

I’m just still in shock that Marielle didn’t take off her shorts and jacket and run around in a ridiculously too-small bikini groping random girls’ breasts for no discernable reason.

Seriously, I was dreading it all episode and it never happened. She sat pretty-much fully clothed under the beach umbrella with nary a hint of fanservice anywhere.

I’m at a loss for words.

To the script writers at Log Horizon – I salute you.

  6. Nerazim says:

    excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me, princess.
