Meganebu! – 05

Meganebu500003

YOU FOOL! ANYTHING UNDER 2000% ISN’T NEARLY FABULOUS ENOUGH.

…This may be the best episode yet, if only for the fact that this megane-centred life apparently also has it’s own deity now. Also, I wish those glasses cleaner machines existed over where I live. They look really handy.

Meganebu500009

Obligatory “it’s over 9000!”

So what does the club do without Akira? … Not much, apparently. I don’t even know if that was supposed to be screw sorting or what, but it looked tedious as hell and had nothing to do with glasses. So clearly, it wasn’t very productive. Meanwhile, Akira battled his arch nemesis and we saw his tragic past with it. Yes, I can relate to Akira’s childhood trauma over bugs. I, too, accidentally unleashed bugs upon my household due to childhood stupidity ignorance (though in my case, it was spiders. …Which aren’t technically bugs, but still. SPIDERS. ALL OVER. OTL). You have NO idea how glad I am that I don’t live in a climate that would support mantises. Akira could have easily been me.

On a more serious note though, the art direction this episode was brilliant. Watching a guy freak out over a bug for half of an episode can obviously get boring pretty fast. But with the over the top animation here, the scene of Akira freaking out over the same thing for like, 10 minutes, became really amusing. Also, that whole horrifying flashback scene was really nice in both the animation style, and the audio. Even if I hadn’t had a similar experience to relate to this, I’m sure the extent of Akira’s childhood trauma would have come through just as clearly. I’d love to see what the director could do with a more serious and maybe psychological (or really, any genre) anime since she uses the budget so creatively. …On that note though, she also seems to have a thing for bright colours and BL intonations.  So maybe she’s better off sticking with this genre (though Kuuchuu Buranko was just as visually trippy as anything in this, and that was a psychological anime). Plus I think I remember reading in an interview somewhere that she likes these kinds of series best.

As usual, the idiocy continues with the 5 person bike. Though I’m beginning to deeply question Akira’s motives here, since we have had absolutely no mention of trying to see naked women, and he seemed awfully excited when they saw the random passerby without his clothing. …It’s probably just my imagination though. There’s nothing even remotely gay about this series. Nope. …I’m rather curious as to how the the bike managed to turn corners, but this episode was surprisingly free of bike crashes considering the people who were riding it.

Every once in a while, slice of life shows have those bits of dialogue that I can easily relate to. The part about the glasses in the rain was one of those. I… don’t actually have much else to say about that, other than I really sympathized with that conversation. So yeah, be careful not to anger the great god of megane, or you’ll be cursed to be foreveralone or totally oblivious or… something. How Hayato managed to miss several conversations that were happening right beside him is beyond my comprehension.

I liked this episode. I really did.  But there honestly isn’t a lot to talk about. Daily life things happened, I sympathized. Maybe I enjoyed this episode so much since it was topics I could relate to, unlike the previous episodes of ghosts, hover machines, and wanting to see naked women (not that the last one is even a thing anymore). Ridiculous things happened and they were funny. …And that’s about it. Though that seems to be all these episodes seem to accomplish when they aren’t going into back stories. Er, I guess this kind of had a backstory about Akira, but it didn’t involve glasses in any way, so it doesn’t count. Anyways, like I mentioned above, the animation this time around was really fun to watch. I had a hard time figuring out the screencaps this episode, since there were so many that I liked.

…I can’t tell if this is supposed to be metahumour or not.

Rumour has it Meganebu receives the least love among the Japanese otaku which is a pity because as a short-sighted glasses wearer I feel what the guys are going through, having to justify themselves the the ignorant non-glasses-wearers masses and contact lens traitors
    Just kidding. 🙂

That said, does anyone know based on Japanese forums which currently airing anime series gets the most love within Japan? Basing on fanart alone, Kill la Kill has the most love and adoration(with the best quality fanart), while Valvrave is full of pretty cr*ppy sketches.

Maybe hashi will put up one of his posts about “Number of 1000 post threads on 2Chan” relating to current anime soon. That’s what I usually use for gauging interest.

Regarding fanart, I’d imagine that Valvrave got played out in the first series, and there hasn’t been anything new visually in this second series (and honestly, there really hasn’t been that much interesting at all in Valvrave. It’s all kinda ho-hum plot stuff now).

    • Melina says:

The pre-order for Meganebu seems to be the lowest this season so it isn’t a rumour it receives the least love and posts about Meganebu which I found on Japanese boards are also mostly hate posts.

    • Karakuri says:

Japan or otherwise, I don’t think there’s much love for this series anywhere.

Uhh, not a clue about the forums. Sorry.

    • d-LaN says:

Considering the forum where most of the posters are females tht I visited is also bashing this show… Yeah this might be one of the most hated anime of the season.

    • BlackBriar says:

I guess it’s because Kill la Kill and Valvrave both have over the top action and pretty girls. That’s what attracts most of the fans.

Mantises are your friends, Kara! I’ve had a few runins with them (like getting into my car in the garage when I had the windows down and seeing a mantis hanging from the headliner in the rear-view mirror), but they’re about as harmless an insect as you can get (no bites, no stings, no nothing). They’re just big and scary looking and pretty darn ungainly.

    • Karakuri says:

I refuse to believe you. xD

      • Highway says:

Only aggression I’ve ever heard of out of a mantis is one bopped my wife’s husky on the nose. They are really friends!

I love having Mantises around the yard, just like spiders. It means there’s less other bugs that are actually annoying.

        • BlackBriar says:

          They are really friends!

If this was the Mushibugyou world, you wouldn’t be saying that so casually, Highway. 😉

          • d-LaN says:

I dare Highway say that again when the mantis is several times of its original sizes.

          • Highway says:

If this was the Mushibugyou world, we’d have WAY worse problems than giant mantises.

            • Karakuri says:

              …Yes, like giant spiders.

…Actually, recalling more of my childhood, I believe that my (completely harmless, save some trauma) run in with spiders was some kind of karma. I was one of those asshats who used to take their legs off one by one just to watch them struggle. OTL

    • d-LaN says:

I caught one in an container once and it keep striking the container with its arms…… I release it immediately. Those arms doesn’t look friendly to me O_O

Come to think of it, tht is the only time I saw a IRL mantis. /citydwellerissues

Is there no end to spammy gluttony?

Remember wht i said earlier? Welp so much for sticking around since i gottten busy. At least I finally made a progress and watched EP4. Maybe I will watch EP5 tioday and comment my thoughts on it.

    Re EP4:
I feel sorry for all the Hayato bullying. Shouldn’t they be happy tht there are ppl who are just into glasses like them without wearing (real) one? Though I like tht they are giving some screen time to the rest of the casts.

Also, one of the elder brother of Cream Puff guy is so trap ^-^; or its just me.

    • Karakuri says:

…I assume that you got your comment back eventually, since I see nothing in the depths of Spammy’s box.

Well, at least you kind of sort of kept up with this. xD I don’t know about the Hayato bullying, since he annoys me. Not even the fake glasses thing, but just his personality in general.

      • d-LaN says:

Yup, its back. But thk anyawy.

Most of Hayato screentme amounts to being the show buttmonkey. :'(

No mention of the wiper!megane? It actually trended on Japanese twitter!

This was the probably the most relatable episode from this series so far. I act super crazy around cockroaches to the point of injuring myself *shivers*

    Thanks for blogging this series~~

    • Karakuri says:

Oh? Did it really? I didn’t really think much of it, besides the fact that they would probably be annoying. I don’t even like using the wipers on my car. They’re more distracting to me than whatever’s on the windshield. xD

…We all have our traumas. I’m glad I don’t really live with any of those either.

Oh wow, I wasn’t expecting any thanks! You’re welcome!!
