Let’s dive into this episode of Freezing, shall we?
Our first look at the main E-Pandora girls was not a pretty one as they were very easily bested by their much more stigmata-compatible opponents. The only thing the testing showed is that they’re still miles upon miles away from E-Pandora being serviceable on the battlefield, especially considering that two of the Big Three couldn’t even materialize their own Volt weapons. If they can’t even do that, I’d think the data obtained from those first 2 mock battles would be negligible.
I kinda ragged on Freezing’s action some in the ep. 1 post, but I have to say I really liked what was shown in this episode with the animation for Amelia vs. Liz. It’s not the most difficult scene to do and far from exciting on an intensity level or grandiose scale, but well animated for what the scene called for. This episode was definitely better than the first and has gotten us entrenched into the E-Pandora arc.
Let’s accept that we lost and not be bitches about it, k?
Scarlett Oohara and Secretary Spencer’s discussion closing out the episode is a sign of things to come and the concerns some might have about the nature of the E-Pandora experiment. They’ve just revealed the expendability of these girls and are now discussing the administering of Mark IV. When the E-Pandora were discussing their rough past and sharing each other’s suffering, it makes me feel sympathetic toward these girls that are being taken off the street and used as guinea pigs in this ongoing experiment with the (vain) hope that they can help in the fight against the Nova.

Mably’s legend as a leader took shape with how strong yet caring she was in her mock battle against Amelia Evans. She very deftly handled Amelia in battle with concern for permanent harm, recognizes the E-Pandora as human beings and that she was able to befriend them relatively soon afterwards over some halibut; that is a nice dinner, for sure. Anyway, it’s not really a 180 from how her character was portrayed in Season 1, but her status does elevate with her actions this episode and is good reasoning for why she’s been my favorite character in the whole series, aside from well, ya know…

Yuushibu – 02
Of course, there has to be the Emi of the story.
Wow, talk about a complete reversal. That’s the biggest 1st to 2nd episode jump in quality I’ve seen in a while. This episode was actually cute and funny, and it even dropped some early hints at possibly upcoming story threads. Well, the character designs are still awful, and the dynamic between Raul and Phino is still mostly a snoozefest, but Phino’s simplemindedness was endearing at times instead of maddening. The early pun segment when she was misrepeating each of Raul’s phrases was the first genuine laugh I got out of the show. And though her encounter with the robber was unforgivably stupid, her and Raul calmly dodging his swipes while discussing their next steps was funny.
I doubt the show will explore it in depth, but the talk here and there about the magitek that provides modern conveniences to this world was interesting, particularly Raul’s predictions of the upcoming boom in that industry. I feel like he should look into getting an engineering degree or perhaps investing in some startups if he wants to take advantage of that trend, rather than settling for working retail at a store that will do well in the boom. He’s now being pulled back by his old friends to his old calling, which doesn’t seem as good a career choice in this time of peace, but that could be a good story thread, especially if it provides more of the gorgeous combat animation as from the first episode. Yes, the show had nowhere to go but up after the first episode, but I’m still impressed by just how much it did so. This may yet end up a show I didn’t regret watching.
Keeping things classy in the first 15 seconds. Surprisingly, not a whole lot of underwear in the episode after that.
I’m sure this was very far down the list of ways he thought this robbery could play out.
Those seahorse carriage manufacturers aren’t gonna be happy with some of the technology coming to replace them.

Walkure Romanze – 02

While some shows get better as they go, or make up for a bad first episode with good follow up episodes, there are some shows that just… don’t. Walkure Romanze is definitely this last. I don’t know how the source material is, but if this anime is a faithful adaptation, it’s pretty much straight up fap bait. But if we understand that’s what it is, I’d have to decree it’s not the worst at it.
“Oh no!” indeed!
Of course Mio can’t get out of actually fighting Bertille due to convenient plot rules, such as “We can’t hurt the honor of a knight” by letting a non-knight off the hook, so we have to train her up! And of course Plankahiro is going to be her begleiter because apparently it’s his fault he wasn’t magically where Mio was when she got chased by Sakura. If it was just Akane saying that, maybe he could have distracted her by mentioning Celia again and have her go into another fugue, but Ayako agrees. So of course training’s gotta start.

For this show, “training” is more “chance to throw in shadowed misdirection and innuendo.” Not content with just doing this with the lance (“you thrust with this?”), they go back to the well with putting Mio in armor for the first time (“It’s so tight!” and “It’s my first time, I can’t have both of you!”). In between, they figure out a way to have Takahiro grab the new student’s boobs, Noelle’s boobs, Mio’s ass, and drench Celia with water. Meanwhile, Mio gets in on the action, once again de-skirting someone, this time Shinonome the announcer, as she manages to run wild with a lance (which takes far more skill than just stuffing it in the dirt).

Mio does show some signs of aptitude, tho. She figures out how to wield a lance in a day, and she shows quick eyes and nerves of steel when she realizes that Noelle is about to not-stab her with a carrot. She also gives us the usual night-training-because-she-doesn’t-want-to-fail. Nothing groundbreaking but it was definitely better than feeling embarrassed for the show during the “It’s my first time” parts. And as bad as this show is, I think I’d still argue it’s not the worst show in MetaFap (*coff* SekaTsuyo *coff*), because at least the art and animation are good (You saw this picture of Celia, right? Just checking).

Ohhhh hey! I am back with another episode of audio porn THE ANIMATION! Like I said last week that is basically what this series is is right now, but I will admit the story for the first episode was kind of boring for me; however this week wa a bit of an improvement because we actually saw Sakura training. Yeah I know she did some training in the first episode but this time it felt like she was really working harder this time! Speaking of working hard I was impressed she survived one hundred throws from all those other girls even though I knew she would be perfectly fine since she is the main character after all. Besides all the physical abuse she endured I was pleased that she didn’t win her first debut match as a pro wrestler because damn that would have been so freaking cheesy if she managed to win. So what did you like about the episode or did you drop it after the first episode?
Sakura is a huge fan of the berserk manga
I wonder how much brain damage Sakura will have before the series ends.

I spent about two years developing and writing a fantasy novel/background. It was very heavy on magical technology. I really like how they broke down the magic circuit, magical engineers, and how that power comes to be. Plus, they expanded upon how the status quo could change in the future.
Also, I am liking how they are exploring the “I wanted to be a hero, now I have to get a job” angle. It is very much a great metaphor for a generation that grew up on RPG’s and now has to mature and find work. Do you’re best no matter what the job.

Yuushibu – 02: Phino was the highlight. She’s adorable even if she’s thick headed. It was cute when she made the effort to memorize all the gestures Raul wrote out for her. The real ridiculous one was the robber and his choice of disguise. Was that honestly the best he could get his hands on? If so, then by all means Phino can hack him to pieces for stupidity.

Freezing Vibration – 02: Elizabeth sure likes to swim naked. I bet she had to wear a lot of constricting clothes growing up and it awakened her inner nudist. I mean, she’s totally comfortable like that while everyone else is wearing swimsuits.
These government types really suck when don’t care how many people are sacrificed for their selfish ambitions. Heartless bastards.
After finding out why the E-Pandoras are so desperate to proves themselves, no one can blame them for their determination given their unfortunate backgrounds. I certainly feel for the one who was sold away by her parents and only accepted the program just to make sure she’d have something to eat for the next day. How can anybody just go ahead and sell their own child?

In the first page of her flashback chapters in Freezing Zero, she’s nude in front of a curtain, so she doesn’t really like clothes unless she can texturize them like her uniform. Not an ounce of shame in that girl.
Those chapters are worth a read, btw. Only 3 of them for Mably, relatively quick reading.

Walkure Romanze – 02: Sexual innuendo right off the bat at training. Nice way to start things off. What am I saying? This whole episode was loaded with it. Anyone new to anime would easily mistake this for porn and I thought Sekai de Ichiban Tsuyoku Naritai!’s first episode was suggestive.
Takahiro’s really not getting any mercy for the misunderstandings. After being slapped repeatedly, I’m amazed he hasn’t stopped and started shouting “fukou da! (Such misfortune!)”. He may be helping Mio out with her joust but other than that, he’s quite bland for a lead. There’s hardly anything to say about his character, be it positive or negative. He’s just… there. That’s it.

But he didn’t even get slapped by any of the women he did anything to. The only one who slapped him was Reina who was late to the party. Heck, Lisa was all “Hmm, is someone grabbing my boob?”
I actually kind of hope they turn it down with the innuendo. Once was embarrassing enough for the show, but to do it twice this episode, in situations where it just wasn’t very clever, seemed like they had nothing else to do. And maybe they don’t. So we’ll see.

Camaraderie in Freezing is definitely a lot better than trying to enforce some senpai/kouhai hierarchy. I think it’s perfectly valid to wonder if the E-Pandora project is worth anything, given how underpowered the most powerful of normal Pandoras are against the Novas (they’re slightly more balanced than the Recon Corps against the Titans, but not too much).
The fighting animation was good, but if you’re going to use Accel or multiples, why are you using it to run in circles around the opponent? Go hit them!

That would be seen as a tactical maneuver to throw the opponent off balance before securing a landing blow. They can’t hit you if their eyes can’t keep up.

My favorite part of Yuushibu this week was Sarah (the manager) when they succeeded in driving off the robber, and Nova sold the refrigerator.

Sekai de Ichiban Tsuyoku Naritai! – 02: Nah, it’s still on my list, I’m sticking with it until the end. It’s not everyday you come across an anime with this kind of story. You don’t normally see a character make this much of a drastic change in her career. Seems like by time the rematch with Rio comes along, Sakura will have regained her previous hair length.
I think the setting’s better going like this even though Sakura shows she has potential in the wrestling world. Despite her endurance with the 100 throws, it would’ve been too easy if she got a win right off the bat in her first match when she’s still a newbie who’s only gotten a little taste of the real thing and there are girls who have been training far longer. That would’ve been insulting to them. A little more toughening up is in order.
