Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S – 22

Summertime fun with Frenda.

With each passing episode the clues as to why Febri was created has slowly been revealed and the last episode ended with Misaka meeting Therestina, but what does she hope to gain by talking to her anyway? I guess we will find out today…

The daily lives of ITEM

Misaka-“Damn your breath smells like old M&Ms!”                   Therestina-“……..”

Before I get into the big chat between Therestina and Misaka I have to say that one of the best things to come out of this season of Railgun has been the characters of ITEM especially Frenda who always cracks me up and this time we get to spend a bit of time with this unique team as they accept a random job to destroy a nearby lab. I keep waiting for them to pull an Accelerator and join the light side of Academy City, but for now they seem to be enjoying their current lives because they get paid to blow things up! So about that talk with Misaka and Therestina? I guess we finally have a label to give Febri with her being revealed as a Chemicaloid and with some help from Mitsuko and friends they helped Uiharu discover some interesting stuff on a man named Haruki Aritomi who won several awards in the past, but now he is the leader of STUDY and basically they just want Academy City to praise them for their achievements in science because all of them are level zero, which is the reason they have a grudge against the high ranks like Misaka who are known because of their powers. It certainly seems like a stupid reason to create an artificial human, but at the same time characters like Saten can relate toward them wanting to be known for something else other than awesome powers. Now for the moment we have all been waiting for! Misaka finally running into Shinobu; however Haruki’s sudden appearance and troll-ish ways leaving both girls are into some serious trouble and what the hell is Janie? Damn things are getting intense…

Extra railgun fun

Febri has the power to melt hearts.

Saten is going to be a great mother one day~

End thoughts

Didn’t anyone ever teach Misaka to not take candy from strangers? I guess that was a good test of faith, but still I have to ask what did Threstina even reveal about Febri? I mean sure we have an official label for Febri as a Chemicaloid but whatever I guess it is just a way to pause the story as we build up towards the final two episodes! Aside from the scientific stuff I was having more fun watching the girls of ITEM play at the pool and of course Frenda’s choice in swimwear was quite bold; however she is kind of like Kuroko in that department if anyone saw the beach arc in season one. So what did you enjoy this time the stuff with ITEM or STUDY? I am curious to see what STUDY has planned with Janie!

About

Is huge anime fan from Florida! who loves to watch anime and also enjoys drawing and collecting pictures, my favorite genre of anime has to be Mecha, there is just something awesome about giant robots beating the crap out of each other! Other than that type of show, I love a good comedy or action series :D

A Chemicoloid? Man, that term takes me back to when I was a kid reading old Iron Man comics. He had a group of baddies called AIM and they developed super powers and made people out chemicals too. Check out that page, AIM almost belongs in Academy City…props to Advanced Idea Mechanics and An Involuntary Movement matching up.

But, we got a ton of great stuff this episode, ITEM returning is always fun, and I was super excited and then super bummed to see Kinuhata’s return cut short (she’s become a fav of mine in the LN’s, exceeded only by Lessar and the Birdway girls), I hope they have more of her next episode.

But again, that Frenda cuts quite the figure.

So, the theme of this episode is “Trust the bad guys”?

    • Cybersteel says:

You mean those Extremis guys? and the basis for Tony’s Extremis Armor

      • skylion says:

Well, this was a good twenty or so years before that plot line. And IFIAK, modern AIM had nothing to do with the Extremis plot line (I don’t keep up with comic books any more).

        • Cybersteel says:

          Too bad…

Doc Ock as Spiderman, an all-minority avengers, interesting stuff.

          • skylion says:

I rather liked the Young Avengers, and Runaways, what I saw of them. Doc Ock as Spiderman? I’m going to play my old curmudgeon card here….

        • Foshizzel says:

Wasn’t the Extremis in the third Iron man movie? I thought it was, but yeah I would LOVE a Iron-man-ish railgun character that uses armor as their ESPer power even though they already are hinting at that now xDD

          • skylion says:

Indeed it was, based on Warren Ellis’ storyline from the last decade. And like Academy City, where a small percentage gain powers or have them, only a small percent could take advantage of the Extremis injections.

Wow, I’d like Ellis to take on a Railgun/Index translation.

            • Foshizzel says:

Ahhh yeah the red glowing guys and hell ya i would love to see that even though I know little to nothing about some marvel stuff besides the 90’s cartoons like Spiderman, X-men and some other stuff but my dad is a huge fan of Iron-man comics and movies.

That preview with Mikoto holding Febli in her hands…looks like things are going to go from bad to worse real fast; and this is why I like railgun over Index; it makes these characters that we associate with in the main series seem less one (two)-dimensional. Mikoto continues to get her character explored, Saten is being all motherish to Febli, and overall railgun is just a more cohesive package than Index. This arc may not even compare to the sister’s arc (as in my opinion, that arc will never be beat…at least for now) but the themes are still being explored and that’s a win in my book. Nagai tatsuyuki knows how to take a franchise’s side story and really add a little extra character to it, which i didnt think was possible for something like raildex.

    • Foshizzel says:

True compared to Index I could care less if she were killed or injured, but as you said the characters of Railgun are way more “human” but I guess we can credit Index being more action-ish while Railgun seems more story driven? Also Touma is the manly beat em up dude so he rarely gets “emotional” I mean can you imagine him getting easily upset after every battle? He would get made fun of so fast.

Anyway I can’t wait to see what happens next <3

      • skylion says:

I think both series switch it up early days. I don’t think they will do that so much as more of the LN’s get adapted.

        • Foshizzel says:

Speaking of the LN! I was reading Vol 15! I want to see that animated because that one dude that works with ITEM sounds so hilarious and of course thats when SCHOOL and BLOCK are introduced for the first time right?

          • skylion says:

Hamazura! He is so boss. Dump on him, beat the tar out of him, he’s just like Touma, only without the Imagine Breaker.

            • Foshizzel says:

I was thinking the SAME thing! It’s like Touma teaming up with ITEM and if you think about it GROUP is the opposite with 1 chick and 3 guys hahah

            • skylion says:

Satoshi Hino has done excellent work for JC Staff in the past, as both Yuuji and Saito (Shana and Familiar of Zero), so him stepping up to take on more time with Hamazura will be quite good. He gets the crap beat out of him often enough.

            • skylion says:

Hamazura gets beat on, not Satoshi-san. But what do I really know, he could be a method voice actor…shame the character of Hamazura doesn’t have any time with Agnes, as that would be a great reunion of VA’s.

            • Foshizzel says:

              ahaha yeah xDD

  3. HannoX says:

A chemicoloid? Uhm, everybody’s made out of chemicals.

    • skylion says:

This is true. But, we can hazard a guess that the process of her chemicals is probably much different than the rest of us, barring the Misaka Imouto, of course.

    • Foshizzel says:

I would guess that Febri has “dangerous chemicals” inside her I would even go as far to say “explosive” or something like…

      • skylion says:

…self poisoning…Not to far reaching really as we have to consume stuff that keeps us in balance as well, Febri’s situation is just far more direct and sudden..

        • Foshizzel says:

Aye I could see that being the reason she has to eat the candy so she can maintain a balance of good chemicals vs bad chemicals.

          • skylion says:

In, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep/Blade Runner the replicants had been given a short life span that took advantage of the fact that the creation process screwed up gene sequencing and protein…..science stuff…so they slowly poisioned themselves. Point is, Febri’s existence in sci-fi has some precedent…

  4. BlackBriar says:

Even behind bars, Therestina is a venomous snake of a woman. After seeing her interactions with Misaka, one thing is clear. Due to her upbringing in Academy City, her problem is because of the horrendous things that goes on, she doesn’t believe there’s any good in people, that there’s always an ulterior motive to their actions.

Frenda looks good in that swimsuit. It would be a safe bet she’d look better if she was more developed.

As for ITEM getting back to work, I’m sure the one who sent them to the lab is somehow linked with Shinobu. If not for their intervention, she wouldn’t have had an excuse to go to the lab to gain information in order to save Febri. I totally saw that bastard tricking Misaka a mile away. One thing to never do is trust the word of a bad guy who has the upper hand, especially when it concerns someone they no longer find necessary.

    • Foshizzel says:

Ahahah yaaaa Therestina is pure evil and I feel for Misaka she loves Academy city but at the same time probably hates all the stupid experiments that take place.

      Frenda is the best <3

Misaka trusts the wrong people >.<

    • skylion says:

Frenda looks good in that swimsuit. It would be a safe bet she’d look better if she was more developed. She looks awesome….

  5. HannoX says:

Dang it! Spammy still hasn’t returned my comment from earlier commenting on Skylion’s comment on my original comment. (That sounds almost as confusing as the regret sequence from ServantxService.)
