Danganronpa – 10

OTL

Danganronpa’s OP and ED are out, it seems. I wish I could travel to Japan to eat the food that this series seems to have inspired (there’s some kind of Monokuma cake that looks absolutely fabulous), but sadly, my wallet won’t allow that.

Sakura did more than just die. Well, they skipped out a bit on this explanation, so I’ll fill in the gaps. Before Sakura died, she took out the principal’s office door (since she was going to die anyways, and Monokuma couldn’t punish anyone for breaking the rules here). That’s how Kirigiri got in there to investigate. As for Naegi at the end of the last episode, Kirigiri sent him out to distract Monokuma. I can’t remember if they’ve figured out that Monokuma talking and the mastermind watching the surveillance can’t be done at the same time or not, but I figure that it’s not that big of a spoiler if I mention it here. Plus you probably could have figured that out yourself, considering that the room with the TV screens didn’t have the mastermind in it.

And suddenly, everyone was extremely grateful for the fact that the bath house didn’t have cameras.

There was a big reveal in that room though. That’s right, everything in this anime so far has been broadcast nationally. Which kind of seems unreal and impossible to do considering how long they’ve been in there, but then again, he also took out Maizono’s idol group. And like he said, there’s a reason for all of this as well. If you’re wondering why help has never arrived, despite the students so obviously needing to be rescued, that’s something I’m sure the students are asking themselves at this point too. There IS a reason though (besides making everything more sadistic than it already was), and that should be explained before the end of the anime.

On the plus side though, the students are keeping their word about not killing one another (minus that one body). There was even a bit of characterization in there too in their interactions. Even after all of the fighting that Asahina and the others did back when Sakura was still alive, they all hung out okay this episode. Er, everyone except Kirigiri, I guess. It seems Togami hasn’t lost his skepticism about people, even after what happened with Sakura. Other than that though, the rest of the characters even all got together to dismantle a Monokuma. …Though that’s what is going to screw over Kirigiri and Naegi in the next trial. The rest of the characters have an alibi of all being together that night in the gym. They heard no reply from Naegi last night, and Kirigiri has been missing the whole time.

At least this episode, Kirigiri is finally looked at. From the start, she’s been introduced as a “???”, so it’s kind of surprising that she’s never been questioned before now. It’s also rather suspicious that she’s been handing out advice to Naegi this entire time. Though of course, it’s all been helpful advice about cases and the mystery of the school that Naegi probably could never have figured out on his own. Also, as proved with Sakura (and the fact of his personality in general), Togami isn’t the greatest judge of people’s characters. However, the fact that the masked person appeared before Naegi in the middle of the night, and then switched over to Kirigiri after Naegi blacked out is rather suspicious. … The mysteries surrounding Kirigiri just keep piling up. Oh, and if you’re wondering what was wrong with Naegi during all of that, he had a really bad fever. The game said this at that point, the anime just kind of… never explained anything. Normally people at least move when there’s a person holding a knife menacingly over them. Naegi lacked the ability to do so due to being ill.

Well, now Ikusaba Mukuro is dead. This next trial should be… interesting. Monokuma’s special item will play an important part. I hope they include the “bad end”~.

The lack of explanation kind of hurt the episode in places (or at least, made the characters look kind of stupid), but I’m rather happy at the fact that we’re approaching the end quickly. Not that I want Danganronpa to be over, but the final reveal is one of my favourite things in this entire storyline. Before we even get to that though, this latest murder is the most difficult mystery of them all. There’s the fact that Naegi will once again find himself trying to convince everyone that he’s not the murderer, but there’s also some other twists to the trial. …One of them being the fact that Ikusaba Mukuro, the one Naegi thought was the mastermind, isn’t, since they’re dead and Monokuma is still moving.

…On a side note, I wonder why they chose to suddenly add all of the characters to the ED picture. Maybe to reflect the fact that everyone has the same frame of mind now? I don’t know.

Monokuma sure knows how to throw parties.

Wow. I was not expecting the reveal that this whole thing was being broadcasted. 0_0 I seriously would like an explanation to how that is even possible.

This trail is going to be awesome, I just know it. Lol.

  2. Soliia says:

Ohoho, this show is a lot better when you know what’s going to happen.

    • BlackBriar says:

LOL. Sometimes when you think you know what’s going to happen, the show throws you a major curve ball.

    • Karakuri says:

Ahaha or at least, it’s fun to watch everyone’s confusion and speculation every time something weird happens~

      • d-LaN says:

Watching virgin viewers speculate/react stuff is one of the best entertainment of all times, right?

I think the reason why help didn’t come yet, is that people think this reality show is staged or something. Remember, Deadman Wonderland? If I recall correctly, people were thinking that it was SFX, when prisoners were teared in half or whatnot, so didn’t fuss about it. Maybe this is the case?

Okay, with the super-duper despair girl, it all happened kinda fast. And it seemed out of place too, if you ask me.

If Naegi had a fever that was bad enough to cause him to hallucinate, he can’t be walking around like nothing happened the next morning. Even if he was just dreaming, you just don’t look like nothing happened, when you had a fever several hours ago.

Oh, what if in the ending, they show characters, who know what’s really going on? That none of them are really dead??? No?? ok.

I wonder, what that ‘big reveal is’ :3

    • d-LaN says:

Btw, ALL the dead characters stay dead in this series.

      • BlackBriar says:

Good to know. Clichés don’t do it for me if they aren’t executed well. Having them stay dead causes a greater effect of despair.

      • Liza says:

Awww dang. I had a small hope that they weren’t dead and would pop back in alive at the end.

      • Namika says:

Okay, that’s good. But why the hell was Naegi with those dead characters all the timedarnit ><"

    • Karakuri says:

I do believe that they skipped over an important clue as to what’s going on outside of the school at the beginning of the show, but the reveal should be interesting. Things have been rushed here due to the lack of time, I admit.

Er, I figure Naegi recovering from a terrible fever overnight is one of the “lol anime” things.

……Now I’m definitely suspicious on whether will they go the P4tA route again with the ending considering only 2 episode left. (If this is a 12EP series)

    • Karakuri says:

I thought this was 13 episodes… I figure it will go

Best episode yet. It was so good I watched it a second time before commenting. Monokuma punching a fish out of frustration put my earlier impressions of him right through the shredder. Good to know that even he’s vulnerable.

Talk about adding insult to injury. It’s bad enough to murder your classmates in order to survive but having the ordeal broadcast nationwide at your expense is despicable. I can understand what Monokuma meant by no one coming to save them. Sometimes in reality, no one will lift a finger to do anything if it isn’t their problem. So the students are pretty much on their own if they want to get out alive.

A lot of mystery is accumulating around Kirigiri the more she shows up on screen. For a moment I almost thought she was the one in the mask but it seems she saved Naegi when he was about to be killed. Was that masked girl really the 16th student? If it is, even if it looks like it, I’m having trouble thinking Kirigiri did it despite the fact the survival knife is the murder weapon and that she was in Naegi’s room. It looks more like another one of Monokuma’s traps to stir up trouble again. After all, there was a decoy version of him in the gym, so why not one of the student?

Of all things for Fukawa to have in her possession, a survival knife. Hagakure was right to panic when he saw that. Anyone else’s heart would have stopped. Lucky she didn’t switch over to Genocider.

    • Karakuri says:

Of course he’s vulnerable! How else would they beat him?! …Even though there are 2(.5 and maybe 3 now, since there seemed to be an announcement earlier this week hinting at some sort of shooting game and maybe a 3rd one) games.

People aren’t quite as bad as you think (though at the same time, what you said is true). Like I said above, I do believe that they missed mentioning something at the beginning of the anime.

Oh, I don’t know if Monokuma ever specified at this point or not, but there were only 16 people in the school when this all began, and no one has come in or out of the building since then. Meaning that it HAD to have been one of the 16 that killed Ikusaba Mukuro,

Ahaha I don’t think Fukawa would have been that dangerous with the knife. She only kills with her scissors, remember? …Other than that one time with the jar and Sakura. That was (kind of) in self defence though.
