Amnesia – 09

Amnesia00014

He cages because he cares ヽ(´ー`)ノ

Guys. It’s okay. He’s doing it for love. Apparently this justifies being an absolute psychopath in just about every otome game ever.
Okay, get your favorite plushie or pet ready to hug, because this episode’s about to get reeeeally creepy.

Amnesia00012Amnesia00011

Miyu || Amnesia just went from lovey-dovey otome to really freaky horror. I swear, during that scene when the heroine was trying to sneak out of the room while Toma was asleep, my heart started going thump thump thump like when I watched Silent Hill 2. That’s bad stuff, man. I only knew about Toma’s not-so-nice side by skimming through a review, but really seeing it in action is a different thing… He’s got to be sick and insane to have to resort to drugging her food and keeping the poor girl in a cage all for the sake of “protecting” her. And by insane I don’t mean haha you’re crazy, but more of YOU’RE VERY POSSIBLY A PSYCHOPATH AND NEED TO BE LOCKED UP RIGHT NOW crazy. How the heroine buys this crap and actually pities him despite of all these things is even more mind-boggling – I’m convinced that she has completely no sense of danger at all. There were so many opportunities she could’ve used to escape from his house (like when Shin and Toma were quarrelling) but for whatever reason she just decided to use that time to space out/sleep? Really now? At the rate she’s going, even without all these weird guys chasing after her she’d probably have already been kidnapped/murdered and gone down without a fight. And after all that drama, they just decided to completely skip the part where she finds some mysterious way to unlock her cage all by herself with only a bunch of plushies around her. So we’re left there imagining what actually went on. For whatever we know she could’ve like cut herself on a soft-toy (lol, you never know with this heroine we’re dealing with) and died and now it’s just her soul floating around trying to find a stupid diary. All this trouble would’ve been saved if she would’ve just broken the lock or picked it when she first found it. Argh, I feel so annoyed at everything right now.

Kara || I’ve been waiting for this. The food drugging is one thing, but then Toma brings out the cage! And then of all things, he buys her stuffed animals. PFFT AHAHA yes, Toma. That makes everything you did alright. A+ for effort! Then we have the heroine who thinks that this somehow isn’t Toma because his desire for protection is overpowering him. …Uhh, right. You keep thinking that. So overall, it’s just one happy, dysfunctional couple! Though if they’d actually kept in the parts in Shin’s route about Toma finding the heroine first, his little freak out and then him winding up foreveralone, maybe you might have seen this coming. Oh well.  So yeah, if you’re wondering why the fangirls are STILL out for the heroine’s life, it’s because basically everyone thinks that her and Ikki are dating. They’re a bit worse in this arc too since she’s not the ‘official’ girlfriend (I don’t remember if the anime ever mentioned this or not, but only fan club members are even allowed to date Ikki) and they don’t have to keep the bullying secret. …Thus why the garbage in the mailbox and them posting the heroine’s profile on shady dating sites. As long as Ikki doesn’t know, it’s okay to them.

Amnesia00015

Stuffed animals make everything better

Miyu || Please tell me that that stupid diary will reveal some of the whole truth soon, because I don’t think I will be able to survive through much more of this route. Toma is just one really creepy guy and the heroine doesn’t have a substantial enough sense of self-protection to try to get away from him or call the police or something, and I can’t bear to watch more of her allowing him to do weird things to her. Thank God he isn’t that kind of downright pervert to actually touch her (what was with that ridiculously short dress though). What was I thinking, complaining about Shin or Ikki or Kent? I would rather have all of them dating her at the same time than Toma… I don’t even want to think about what he did to Shin (dead/drugged/tied-up or one of those things) and what he is about to do to the heroine when he catches up with her :c SOMEONE PLEASE SAVE HER (or she could just die now and end the show, I guess that works too.) On side note, Ukyo didn’t appear this episode and that makes me kind of sad because he’s the only character that has the potential to be somewhat acceptably interesting.

Kara|| So yeah. This is why I was excited for Amnesia in the first place. Not for the romance, but for all of the dramatic, psychopathic characters and messed up storyline that this has. …Not that I’m saying that the romance is a bad thing, but what I enjoyed from the original visual novel was just how dark and messed up the storyline got. Toma just has the kind of route that you need to do last so that his character isn’t ruined in the other routes, where he acts like you saw in episode 8. …I guess he’s still maintaining that demeanour since he doesn’t want to sleep in his bed and he’s being still kind of considerate to the heroine. There’s just the whole yandere level to go with that. I don’t want to brush his behaviour as being ‘okay’, but from what I’ve seen in other otome games, it could be a lot worse.

And I guess the heroine’s attitude (or lack thereof) makes sense here since if she had one, she would have done something to stop Toma. It would have been a weird regression if she had changed at all before and then reverted back here. …The heroine didn’t really do much in the game, so I didn’t expect her to do much here.

Honestly, if Toma’s route wasn’t the last in the series (perhaps somewhere in the middle or something), I probably would’ve dropped it at this episode. At this point in time I don’t really have a choice. I mean, I’ve already invested 9 hours into this thing. Another 4 episodes won’t kill me, right? ;w; I’m going to be brave and continue watching on for the supposedly epic conclusion…. hehehe who am I kidding someone please tell me why I’m still watching this T______T

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this before, but I find yanderes somewhat hilarious. It’s terrible, yes, and no, putting the girl you like in a cage is in no way, shape or form a sign of a healthy relationship. Knowing that certainly didn’t stop me from laughing hysterically throughout the episode though. ANN did some ‘6 worst guys to date’ article and Toma was #1. Personally, I think they called that a little prematurely, since you haven’t seen the worst of Ukyou yet. At least Toma doesn’t strangle the heroine like Ukyou did in episode 8. Well, this episode of Amnesia was as entertaining as I expected, let’s see the ending to this arc and then finally move on to the truth~.

…Yep. More fun times ahead!

Gah Heroine…why are you so stupid!? Even if he wasn’t acting like himself as you refer to it, locking someone up in a cage and drugging them is not a-okay. Seriously girl. How…why!? GAHHH. This is one time that I will say, listen to Orion.

I’m guessing that since Toma ran out of there so fast he forgot to lock the cage correctly so Heroine could escape? That’s my guess anyway. I’m really hoping he doesn’t end up catching her cause who knows what he will do. T_T

Just run in the middle of the street Heroine! With your ability to attract trucks to hit you, you’ll be a-okay and just jump to Ukyou’s arc.(who I’m waiting for XD)

Gah. Sorry for the double post. 🙁

    • Karakuri says:

At least her lack of personality makes sense in this situation… But yeah, neither of them are in their right mind. Toma for doing this and the heroine for going ‘oh okay’. Though then again, with her lack of memories and such, if she escapes Toma’s place, where is she going to go?

Uhhh… in the game there was a lose bar that she could get out from if she removed it. Here it looks like the lock was removed, so I guess your assumption makes sense.

Lololol it was almost 3 deaths due to cars this episode. I wonder how she’s really going to die here though…

  3. BlackBriar says:

My god. This girl is completely incapable of evaluating a dangerous situation that’s right in front of her face. A normal person would have run out called for help with the chance she had but stupidly let go to waste and started pitying the one who caged her. She’s too much of a door mat and Touma should be imprisoned for life with a straight jacket. That whole event shows that he has psychotic tendancies. I couldn’t stop calling him bastard for what he was doing.

    • Karakuri says:

The heroine doesn’t really have anywhere else to go considering that she’s pretty vulnerable no matter where she might run to between Toma and the fangirls. It makes less sense here as to why she’d stay since they’re just following the game plot where in the game plot, she technically HAS to stay since the whole thing where if she doesn’t recover her memories, she’ll lose everything.

I think i might pick up this series again now

    • Karakuri says:

Having yanderes in a series will tend to make things more interesting.

      • BlackBriar says:

Too bad this yandere isn’t up to Gasai Yuno’s level. That would have been really interesting. Well, it seems that spot will be filled out by Ukyou.

        • Karakuri says:

Actually, I wouldn’t really quite call Ukyou a yandere. His other personality truly does just want to kill the heroine. It’s not out of affection, so not yandere.

          • BlackBriar says:

I keep forgetting there’s a difference between a yandere and a psychopath, though it’s hard to seperate the two. To me, they’re basically the same thing.

            • Karakuri says:

Er, well we haven’t exactly gotten into Ukyou’s character yet, so you would have been in the dark about what’s behind his murderous intentions anyways.

  5. belatkuro says:

Since when did Amnesia became a comedy?
I swear I was laughing nonstop when Toma was drugging Heroine in her sleep…and she’s still accepting those cups from him. And when the cage appeared…ROFLMAO.
Now the ED makes sense with Toma leaning in a cage.

Jokes aside, this was creepy on so many levels but I was spoiled in coming with this episode so I wasn’t that surprised. I dunno what’s worse though, Toma caging her in the name of love and protection, or Heroine taking all of this so nonchalantly and still thinking that he should be pitied. It boggles me really. I did like that one part where Toma was looking up at her from the floor. She really looked quite pretty there…wait, what am I saying?!

Story-wise, nothing much to say except for the cage and stuff which I already said to be creepy and weird. We’re still ways away from the reason why all this parallel worlds are happening so that diary better have some good content in it to warrant that cliffhanger.
And with all these crazy characters around(except Shin and Kent(somewhat)), Orion seems a much better character. About time I trust the little brat I guess.
Let’s hope the last episodes provide the answers and a good conclusion to the story.

    • Karakuri says:

Oh thank god. Someone else who thought that this was hilarious. Yep, that’s why the ED became hilarious to me too. Since they’ve been foreshadowing this ever since episode 1.

Like I explained in a comment before, technically she had to stay in the game since the whole goal was to recover her memories before she turned into an empty shell. It makes no sense in the anime since it seems to want to follow the game plot, but seems to have forgotten about the memory recovering thing. …Either that, or she’s just a doormat.

Uhhh… the diary has nothing to do with the truth (though it does have some stuff about the heroine and Toma that’s important for here, but not important overall).
Playing the game again, I realize that a lot of the reason I like Orion is because in between his advice giving, he makes some pretty hilarious sarcastic comments. I’m sad the anime didn’t include some of them. (Especially some of his thoughts on Ikki and his fangirls)

      • JapanInspired says:

” I’m sad the anime didn’t include some of them. (Especially some of his thoughts on Ikki and his fangirls)”- you mean how Orion asked if Ikki is a cosplayer or something, because he thought his clothes was weird? lol
I really love Orions comments too.

        • Karakuri says:

Ahahaha yeah, or when he’s surrounded by fangirls and Orion just goes “Oh, there’s no way that he’s your boyfriend. Nope! Okay, let’s go back! :D” His retorts are just great.

  6. D-LaN says:

It always felt like only I and a selected few actually enjoys these shows ._. Srsly, this is one of the few places tht the reviewer and comments doesn’t just bash it.

How I feel throughout the episode: http://i.imgur.com/Uw5gF.gif
Dammit why is it always the good one who r crazy yandy? D: Toma, drugging and putting Missus Amnesiac into a cage is NOT protecting her 🙁 Thk God Orion is here to counter Missus Amnesiac lack of personality…. Orion really makes the show bearable to me XD

Missus Amnesiac…. I think I am a very forgiving person to just chalk her action up as “No Personality” lol. Surprise tht she managed to avoid Truck-chan XD

@Kara, wht happened to Shin? I was expecting him to save Missus Amnesiac T_T

PS Wow both B-C:TLD and Amnesia did the coffee simultaneously o_O Coincidence?

    • Gecko says:

That gif is perfect for how I felt too! NOPE NOPE NOPE!

    • BlackBriar says:

PS Wow both B-C:TLD and Amnesia did the coffee simultaneously o_O Coincidence?

Yeah, I noticed that the moment Orion brought it up. I guess Touma and Fumito met some time ago in a crossover like Blood-C did with Holic and Fumito gave some advice on how to drug the girl you want to look out for because they both think they have their best intersts at heart.

      • Kyokai says:

BB, movie did it first because it released AGES ago in Japan. You are just seeing it now because it got recently subbed. ~_^

    • Karakuri says:

…Yeah, I dunno. Otome game adaptations just never seem to do well. If more people played the games, maybe they might do better. Plus it seems that Otomate’s games are the most animated and those have the blandest heroines.

LOL run away while you can! Toma is crazy. But he’s not SO bad when compared to Ukyou, but you guys can’t see that now. Actually, he’s not a bad guy overall aside from the drugging and caging. The anime is just kind of… portraying him as a huge creep (not that the game didn’t do that too).

To kind of prove my point, Shin is fine. He just kind of argued with Toma and left (or at least that’s how it was in the game, I assume he’s still okay now). Plus he has no idea about the cage.

Er, I guess Blood-C did it first. Though the Amnesia game came out kind of around then too (I think it was still afterwards though).

  7. Gecko says:

My goodness this was crazy. I was expecting a cage, but oh man, yuck! Yuck! Why? Toma, my goodness.
I was kind of surprised that he let her out of the cage and then just sat there, like, oh, lol just sit next to me and then I’m stuffing you back in there.
And when she did try to escape, I almost jumped out of my chair when the doorbell went off. Gosh, that was terrible but well done! Finally, something well done here… XD
But please, heroine, hurry up, figure out who you are…
For all I know, that diary is empty. Like her personality. (But I don’t know, so…)

    • Karakuri says:

I had kind of forgotten about the drugging until this episode. The cage was as fun as I was expecting it to be though xD

…The part where he lets her out was supposed to be one of his ‘nice guy’ periods to keep his character from looking like a complete psychopath, but… he just ended up looking creepy anyways.

I can tell you right now, the heroine won’t learn anything really useful until Ukyou’s turn (unless the anime decided to add in some sort of transitional scene). As for the diary… it’s not actually that important. I mean, it is for Toma’s route, but overall it has no real impact on the true storyline.

  8. JapanInspired says:

Wow, I think this episode was one of the best for now. So much suspense.
By the way, I was wondering, how did the Heroine run out of the cage? Did Touma forget to lock her or something? In the game, I think Orion noticed that one of the sides were not so steady, so the Heroine just knocked it open. Touma really creeps me out, especially the Bad end of his route- being a jailed doll with cuffs on O_O.
Would be really cool if Touma really killed Shin, or something, like he killed Ikki’s fan girls in Ukyo’s route. Ok-ok, I’ll stop right here. Oh how I hope that Ukyo’s part will be as epic as in the game, and if they make the end of the anime Ukyo’s good end, that will be the best ending ererr! That last part with Orion and Niiru…

    • Karakuri says:

Yeah, I just assume that he didn’t lock it properly. AS for Ukyou’s part… well, there’s a post on that now, but I DO hope that they go with the good ending!

  9. JapanInspired says:

Also, it’s so sad that none of the characters mentioned how the Heroine used to be. Well, at least in the game almost everyone mentioned how stubborn she was, and also by collecting her memories you can really see what kind of person she was.
That way people would kind of stop complaining that the Heroine is just so lifeless, and so not a talker (ah, oh, yeah, sorry, I-, um). I mean, really, I sometimes complain about that too, but she did lost her memories, which means her personality as well.
And she didn’t really do much in the game either.
My personal thoughts were that she tried to be quiet instead of loud – doing things that she wouldn’t have in the past, so people wouldn’t recognize that she lost her memories, which leads to being sent to the hospital.

    • Karakuri says:

My personal thoughts were that she tried to be quiet instead of loud – doing things that she wouldn’t have in the past, so people wouldn’t recognize that she lost her memories, which leads to being sent to the hospital.

Oh, that actually sounds like a good explanation for her being so quiet. We’re missing a lot since they’re not adding in the memories, but I guess they’re just trying to give people a general idea of how the game is like…

  10. Irenesharda says:

Sigh, I decided to give this show a try, despite its bad press. I mean, I sometimes like a reverse harem every now and again. However, of all the crazy, emotionally-baggage laden, color-coded cliches. I have to say that Ukyo is my choice among all of them.

There’s just something about the odd man out that strikes me as interesting. Especially the fact that he is in all the different world routes, is aware of what’s going on, and seems to know more than any other character. Plus, at least one-half of him is open about being a psycho. Toma hides it under the excuse of “love”. And the other half, well…I’ll get to that in the review for the next episode.

    • Karakuri says:

The plot is finally picking up, so it’s a good time to join. Ukyou would be my favourite as well, but that’s more because I like they way they did his multiple personality thing and his part in the plot is the best.
