Senran Kagura – 06: Things were bittersweet for me watching this. The only ones I could consider as fights were with everyone except Hibari who continues to be utterly useless. She’s too soft with no sense of aggression even when she’s in danger. If I had to make a comparison, even Naruto’s Hinata is better off than her and she’s timid.

  2. belatkuro says:

    Senran Kagura:
    >Katsuragi gets hit
    >clothes get ripped
    >expects bare boobs
    >bikini appears
    Wut?

And they really should get naked already so they can defeat them, or even stand a chance to them, as our light ninjas are getting pawned so much.
And Hibari is so useless that it’s getting annoying. From the OP, it seems like she’s the only one without a trauma or past wound or something as she was only shown holding stuff toys while the others are going through painful times.
Yagyuu is so wasted on her. Oh well.

    • BlackBriar says:

I’m seriously wondering if there’s a need to keep Hibari around. Halfway through the series and nothing worthy of note. She’s officially dead weight in my eyes. I say shape up or ship out.

      • Highway says:

There’s a sign she might get better in Ep 7, but it’s just a little bit. She’s still pretty useless.

Plus, you know that she’s gonna get possessed by Haruka at some critical point in the show’s development.

        • Overcooled says:

Her superior sensor abilities would be useful for specific missions, perhaps…but it seems hard to incorporate into a fight. And what use are those abilities when you just casually take an earring of someone who is a PUPPET MASTER? She’s super cute, but definitely useless :/

          • Highway says:

I dunno about cute. Not my type, and those awful eyes… *yuck*

          • BlackBriar says:

Cuteness doesn’t make up for incompetence. Especially when it comes to being a ninja. She’s not cut out for that lifestyle.

          • Highway says:

And of course, she neglected to mention the earring in their debriefing after the incident that I *hope* they had (otherwise, stupid useless shinobi school!).

            • Overcooled says:

Yeaaahhh they probably won’t find out about the earring until it’s too late :/

…I actually find Hibari the most attractive out of all the girls. Probably because she’s cute instead of sexy and instead of focusing on chest balloons they focus on her rather nice legs. Dem thighs.

            • Highway says:

By now I bet everyone can figure that I favor Ikaruga. But Asuka’s not bad either, nor is Homura. The mood shift between “furo” Yomi and “fighting Ikaruga” Yomi is a little too much for me to take for her.

And for me, Yagyuu, Mirai, and Hikagi are just no thanks.

  3. KLACMAN says:

maoyuu 6 & 7 – give ep.6 got more action on it while ep.7 more wonder if hero going get harem ending if keep up being sandwich to red queen & female knight.

vivid 6 – yea weasel grandpa oh my if trying to channel kamina or something yea at the training did “develop” give how bill going to cost?

senran 6 & 7 – ep.6 more to see how they match & whole yagyuu & hibari oh my so get “same bed” while ep.7 training more workout on them.

    • BlackBriar says:

Vividred Operation – 06: The grandpa wanted to go full throttle and cause mayhem and absurdity but is hesitating with the bill. He shows the unmistakable signs of a cheapskate. Next time he should think before going half prepared for the consequences.

      • Restia says:

Probably lost bits of his sanity after getting shoved into a stuffed ferret

        • BlackBriar says:

More like unleashed what he was suppresing when he was in his human body. He did look reserved back then.

  4. Highway says:

Senran Kagura: While it tried to make them look better, Episode 6 really showed how useless the Hanzou girls are, with their best attacks barely able to hit the Hebi Academy girls. And yeah, Hibari is utterly useless (and still has creepy eyes).

    • BlackBriar says:

I think the first three are beginning to show their worth because they’re being pushed by their enemies. Rather than training most of time, fighting with your life on the line brings out a lot more results. I admire Katsuragi’s attitude because despite she’s weaker than Hikage, she kept persisting and did some damage.

  5. Highway says:

Maoyuu: For me, the time skips are justified to a great degree. Maou is playing a long game, getting people to change agricultural practices, changing the mindset of the people, introducing the formal education for more people.

The ice bridge for the army was an interesting idea from an engineering standpoint. It could probably last for a couple days in calm seas, so it’s not too farfetched. And Lady Knight getting to show off that she’s actually a badass was pretty good.

But as always, the show needs more romance.

  6. Highway says:

Vividred: A pretty silly episode. Akane is the most oblivious person, and Weasel Ojii-san is completely misguided. I really don’t see Rei getting pulled into the main group until the very end. I think it’s going to be more that the Vivid girls have to save Rei as she’s about to be killed by the alone after failing with the rest of her arrows, or she will decide that she’s going to throw in with this group of people who seem to care about her even as she tries to push them away and her last arrow, instead of boosting the Alone, actually destroys it.

  7. belatkuro says:

Vivired: There are just so many things wrong in this episode:
-Why is the brilliant mind who saved the energy crisis, aka the old weasel, reduced to being a perverted man who plays around with these girls?
-Why is his robots so lame that they get destroyed by a wooden stick, a giant rock and a swimsuit?
-How the hell did Rei take out all those cameras all at the same time when she only had 3 utensils at her disposal? And she was even shown to have thrown all of them later on.
-How did Akane survive that cannon blast when her whole upper body was inside that barrel and basically taking the full force of that beam?
-Why are Himawari’s Himawaris so deliciously big for a middle-schooler?
-Where is my through-the-legs shot this episode?
-Why am I still watching and somehow enjoying this?

    I need answers!

    • Highway says:

Well, remember that “Middle Schoolers” in Japan can easily be 14 or 15. So not impossible. Wait, why am I defending this?

The show’s really silly, and you just gotta figure that it’s not going to make sense.

    • Restia says:

I was excited for a gif of Himawari pushing buttons.. but this is fine too.

Ferret-geezer is losing appeal every episode, this episode made him look like a total idiot =3=

      • Highway says:

That’s better than the way she runs in the OP…

      • Highway says:

Big reveal at the end of Vividred Operation: Ferret Ojii-san is *actually* Kotoura Zenzou!

“Yes, Momo, come sit on my lap in your hot pants!”

        • HannoX says:

Yeah, another pervy grandfather. We’ve had sis-cons and bro-cons, so is the new trend in anime going to be grandaughter-cons?

        • BlackBriar says:

Big reveal at the end of Vividred Operation: Ferret Ojii-san is *actually* Kotoura Zenzou!

*sarcastically* Now what would be the odds of that? I call that a type cast.

        • skylion says:

This guy is stealing my best possible lines.

      • BlackBriar says:

It makes him look like an even bigger idiot because in retrospect, all that “training” was unnecessary, he blew up a huge bill he’s trying to get away from and in the process, hardly anything has changed for the girls if you take Rei out of the equation.

        • skylion says:

yeah, it felt like they were winding up to “jump the shark” territory here…

          • BlackBriar says:

LOL. They really made the doctor seem more of a clown than a scientist.

  8. Highway says:

Sakurasou: I just can’t get off the Nanami ship on this show. And Mashiro’s seeing the signs of it as well. Ultimately, I think Nanami’s inability to just come out and say that she loves Sorata right in front of him will be her undoing, because as soon as Mashiro figures out that’s what she needs to say, she’ll say it.

The best brick joke returns, too! And even better is Sorata lampshading it’s a brick joke, and Mashiro turning it around on him, suggesting Plan B instead! That’s the closest Mashiro’s come to asking Sorata out.

The person I felt the most for throughout the episode, tho, was Fuuka. She completely fits into the themes of the show, maybe more than anyone else: a normal girl who forever is outshined by her younger, amazingly talented sister. Her love for Jin really came through, and that he didn’t really love her back the same way was so sad to see. Moreso than the sleeping around relationships that Jin had at Suimei, this one hurt more because Fuuka really seems to have tried to get Jin to look at her, but he was always looking over her shoulder at Misaki. Maybe I just feel for those types of girls, since you could say Nanami is in a similar situation. I also thought Hayami Saori did a great job as Fuuka, a good ‘normal girl’ character.

    • Karakuri says:

Oh, that’s a good comparison there with Fuuka and the premise of the show. …Though you have to wonder what the message that they’re trying to get out there if that was intentional. “Talent always wins“? They were probably just trying to show that Jin and Misaki were just… meant to be or something though. Yeah, I can see comparisons with Nanami in there too. …Though I’d say that even with all of her hesitation, she still has a better shot with Sorata than Fuuka with Jin.

      • Highway says:

I definitely think Nanami has a better chance with Sorata than Fuuka did with Jin. Ultimately, I think Fuuka was right on target with her soft accusation of Jin that was first in episode 11, and then repeated here: Fuuka was a substitute for Misaki in Jin’s mind, someone to be with while he felt unworthy of what he really wanted. Maybe it was that Fuuka looked so much like Misaki, but didn’t burn star bright, so much that Jin felt he would burn up in her glare. Maybe it’s that he initially was sincere in his relationship with Fuuka, but realized exactly what Fuuka ended up saying.

I think what they were trying to convey in the show is that Jin always was chasing Misaki. Even when he was sleeping around, even when he was planning to go away to college, even when he was dating Fuuka. And he’s finally made the decision, even though it hurts him, to try to catch up with her by developing at the other college.

  9. HannoX says:

Vividred: What the heck did the other girls think they were going to see when they got inside what was after all Akane’s swimsuit?

The “Secret Alone Base” island with its signs pointing the way made me think of Bugs Bunny or Roadrunner cartoons with their cheesy traps and leading signs set by the idiot villain. Yet none of the girls seem to think there’s something fishy about all that and how the “killer traps” were actually harmless. (I’m sure the conveyor belt would have turned out to be harmless if Rei hadn’t shown up. Probably a net popping out of the cliff below it.) And yeah, Rei didn’t have much of a disguise. Maybe this series is meant to be a parody of the magical girl genre and the often dumb disguises worn in them with no one being able to see through them.

Given the way the magical girls were split up into pairs, I suppose we should ship Red & Blue together and Green & Yellow together.

Senran: Maybe because she didn’t have a trauma in her childhood is why Hibari can’t fight. Having to struggle and overcome trials teaches you how to fight. Regardless, you wonder why she hasn’t been kicked out of shinobi training long ago. But I think we can finally see why she was included in the series. As Highway said, at some critical point she’s going to get possessed by Haruka and it’s going to be a major story element. But, God, she’s so useless!

Maoyuu: Finally some good action in Ep.6, but the battle went by too quickly. However, this series isn’t about the battles in the war between humans and demons. It’s about how economics, agriculture and growing prosperity bring the war to an end. You can’t make lasting peace if the root causes of a war aren’t done away with. So because of the focus of the series most of the time will be spent on the Demon Queen’s plans and the economics and agriculture of that world. Since her plan will take years to bear fruit and not mere months the time skips make sense and are even necessary.

There does need to be more time devoted to the relationship/romance between the Hero and Demon Queen. But then Ep.7 complicates that by having the Knight make it a love triangle and even has the three of them in bed together. (The Hero must be REALLY tired to be fast asleep with a beautiful young woman on either side of him. That, or he’s faking it so he won’t have to deal with the situation that would arise if they knew he was awake.) So is the Hero going to get the harem ending?

And what about the Mage? She hasn’t even been mentioned lately and the Hero had set out to find her. When is she going to appear and add more complication to the Hero’s love life?

    • Highway says:

The mage went forward in time and decided to change her name to Nagato Yuki… 😉

Yuusha was totally not sleeping. Heck, he had his eye open half the time. But I’m trying to not talk about Episode 7 since this post is about episode 6. 🙂

      • HannoX says:

I don’t think I gave away anything about Ep.7 since one of the screen captures at the top shows the Hero in bed with the Demon Queen on one side and the Knight on the other. Any other comments I have on it (if any) will wait until there’s a post devoted to Ep.7.

  10. BlackBriar says:

Vividred Operation – 06: Akane was nothing but ditzy this entire run. She had no real sense of danger here. It’s baffling she used herself to stop the canon but other than her swimsuit, she’s untouched. And expected the grandfather is another in a long line of perverted old geezers. Making that kind of swimsuit for should be illegal and he should get arrested for assault and kidnapping.

    • HannoX says:

There are four middle school girls he can get pervy with who aren’t his grandaughters. Of course, none of them are likely to sit in his lap like Momo did when he told her to, nor are they likely to accept a swimsuit with special features from a stranger. Well, maybe Yellow would considering she’s a big fan of Dr. Isshiki.

    • Restia says:

      That balloon-tent thing bothered me.
So is it sealed off or not? Because when the other 4 girls went inside it, the ground was still sand right? (Also that part was like lolwutAkanewhy)

Also, the cushion part is in her butt, Akane flew in head first. I don’t think that really helped ಠ_ಠ

      • Highway says:

You’re definitely thinking too much about it. You should stop. You’ll just end up hurting yourself.

        • BlackBriar says:

The absurdity is thought provoking. It’s hard not to think about the flaws.

      • BlackBriar says:

The swimsuit thing got to me as well. With the material stretched out to a ridiculous extent, one would think Akane would have felt a draft on her lower half. A rush of air surely followed the other girls in. Moreover, who puts a button on a swimsuit, let alone at the rear end? The grandfather has fallen in my opinion thanks to that little stunt.

  11. Karakuri says:

Lololol every week from the comments, I’m more and more tempted to catch up with Senran Kagura. Hell, even OC is watching it xD

    • Highway says:

It’s definitely an entertaining show, sometimes for the right reasons, frequently for the wrong reasons.

    • BlackBriar says:

What are you waiting for? Jump in! It’s a perfect excuse to root for the bad girls. And believe me, I was shocked when I found out OC was watching it. I really didn’t see that one coming.

      • Overcooled says:

Kara, you should give it a try! The outfits (or lack thereof) are fabulous and the bouncing boobs are HYPNOTIC. The battles aren’t terrible either.

I’m a bit surprised too lol I don’t watch very many ecchi shows. Pervy ninja shows are my niche guilty pleasure though. I liked Hakka Ryouran Samurai Girls too.

        • Karakuri says:

Season 2 of Ryouran, coming sometime soon~ …I have to admit, I’m kind of looking forward to those surprisingly classy ink censors.

…Yeah, I think I’ll catch up with Senran.

          • BlackBriar says:

The second season is titled “Hyakka Ryouran: Samurai Bride” and it’s right around the corner. It begins next season.

            • Overcooled says:

I know, it’s oddly exciting lol. Guess MetaFap will have another samurai/ninja show next season too

            • Restia says:

              F*CK YEAH HYAKKA RYOURAN! SENGOKUUUUU~
Sengoku Era is another one of the things I am overly passionate about along with Touhou and some other stuff huehuehue

          • Highway says:

Heh, I watched the BD’s, where the ink wasn’t really censoring as much. But the art style was still awesome, one of my favorites. Really looking forward to the second series.

        • BlackBriar says:

Do you see what I mean? It’s baffling seeing this kind of comment from her. I can help but laugh in astonishment.

@Overcooled: I got some news for you. Even though I haven’t seen Hyakka Ryouran: Samurai Girls myself, there’s news that a sequel is scheduled next season. It’s titled “Hyakka Ryouran: Samurai Bride”. Here’s the link of where I found the info.

          • Highway says:

Wait wait wait, you haven’t seen Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Girls? What are you waiting for? A great cast and a tremendous distinctive art style. Yeah, the story’s kind of average, but the overall show is a lot of fun. It’s one of those shows that felt like each episode was only about 10 minutes long because I was enjoying it so much.

            • BlackBriar says:

I intend to watch it before the second season starts so I’m downloading the episodes right now.

  12. BlackBriar says:

Maoyuu Maou Yuusha – 06: The time skips are necessary considering the anime is only 12 episodes long. This was pretty good action wise. Sometimes I forget people can actually get killed in this show and the war took care of that notion. But one has to wonder if this isn’t affecting Maou on the inside. After all, she’s their ruler and she’s playing against her own kind for control of the island.

The ice bridge was a good idea to establish footing for the troops without help from their ship but something is off. Sure pouring water between ice solidifies the two points but there’s the question of the use of salt which is supposed to melt the ice instead of helping to make the bridge.

Now that there is some stability, maybe they can focus on Maou and Yuusha’s relationship. They can’t make it look like their contract is a superficial matter. There needs to be something to make up for lost time between them.

    • Highway says:

The point of the salt actually *is* to melt the ice, because when you jam the two ice floes together, they’re not going to match up. So the point of pouring the salt between them is to melt the ice on the edges and then refreeze them together.

  13. BlackBriar says:

Sakurasou no pet na Kanojo – 18: Finally Jin and Misaki come to terms with each other. Jin must have really been out of it if he deliberately provoked a fight with Sorata. However, my opinion of him is bittersweet because you have to applaud for following Misaki by going to the same school to keep her company since she’s treated as an outcast but it’s kind of offensive that he slept with her sister as a replacement even though she’s not the one he wants.

Mashiro is truly no longer the girl she was if she’s picking up on Sorata and Nanami. I’d even go as far to say she’s beginning to feel jealous because it totally does look like the case. But I have a feeling Mashiro has her confession to give out but doesn’t know how to carry it out and so she blindly accepts whatever is going to ask before he finishes his sentences. Either that or she doesn’t want to feel left out.

As for Misaki’s Fuuka. It seems her current situation might be a precursor to what Nanami might become if she doesn’t win Sorata. I couldn’t put my finger on it but I feel some similarity between the two because they both love someone but realize their chances are slim to none against the other girl.

    • Karakuri says:

Yeah, I’m thinking Fuuka was the next closest thing. I like Jin, but having him treat Fuuka that way is kind of hard to accept. Though she was kind of happy with it in a kind-of-got-what-she-wanted-but-not-really way.

Mashiro is definitely a bit more… well, human now I guess. She has a better grasp on emotions. Though Sorata seems to like that absentminded genius quality about her, so I don’t know how well it’s going to go if she loses all of that.

      • Highway says:

I think both of them got something out of the relationship. I am giving Jin the benefit of the doubt that he sincerely loved Fuuka, just not enough and not as much as Misaki. He might have had the same idea: Maybe if I love Fuuka, the pain I feel about Misaki will go fade. But it didn’t, and when he had to make a choice between Misaki or Fuuka, he had to make the choice to go with Misaki, even if it hurt Fuuka.

  14. skylion says:

Been very busy as of late; looks like I’m tardy…

Don’t worry! I will avenge you with Skylion and all your fans!

Nah, ya’ll can hang back, I got this one…

And that’s it from me for now…

  15. skylion says:

    Lecherous Granpa:

but the overall silliness and place in the show reminded me of that show’s well known panty swap episode

This is what sold Strike Witches to me. I was mildly interested at first, and then this episode happened and I felt all the dominos fall into place forming a whole picture; they wove every single character narrative they could in the space of 22 minutes (+/-) and it worked out great.

But I don’t think this quite stacks up to that. I feel this episode was far more throwaway then necessary. Whereas Panty Swap distilled all the characters to a fine point, where you could figure out motivations, character tics, etc with just a few motion, in VividRed it looked mangled. The characters looked and felt far to like card board cut outs. That’s the danger of a show that lives fully in Tropeville.

    • Highway says:

Panty Swap in Strike Witches actually brought a lot of the characters that you didn’t really know about to the forefront, like Hartmann and Barkhorn especially, and some on Lucchini as well. Eila and Sanya had to wait until their episode later, I think.

  16. skylion says:

I cannot believe my Oppai Ninjas are this Dense.: I officially have nothing new to offer this show. Nerfing Mirai like that was just a horrible decision; and I neither forgive nor forget easily. Grrrr.
