MetaVerse Episode 15 – The Grass is Greener on Verdant’s Side

Want to know Verdant’s favourite colour?

Hey all, GOMENNASAI for the background noise because it was ALL coming from my end (well, most of it and yeah, you can make that horn joke again ><). Yes, I live in a very populated metro area and due to the difficulty of finalizing the recording time, it was that loud time of the day. Anyways, we had fun time with Verdant and hope you liked knowing more about RC. Also, folks, don’t forget MetaQ, which we still use. If you download our podcast from iTunes, don’t forget to rate us too. Thank you for listening!

We had fun, we said with a ‘posed look‘~

The podcast was perfect all the way until Jrow called me an entitled Child! You have no idea how betrayed I felt after pouring over 200+ hours into the Mass Effect Franchise dude!!! -__-

Other than that great Podcast, Thanks for the shout out too that was neat, I might have some of you guys as guests on my podcast soon so keep a look out for that in your Emails.

My Top 3 shows from last season had to be number 1 Chihayafuru that show was just glorious, I wish it had more drama and less Karuta though. I heard rumors about a second season so there is still some hope.

Persona 4 and Nisemonogatari come in 2nd and 3rd place because of funny and awesome they were. Ep 8 Nise still my fav anime episode this year!

    • Foshizzel says:

You are welcome Kidd! Hooray for shout outs! Ah that might be fun ;D

Nice top three! I really need to get caught up with Chihayafuru I am roughly four episodes behind.

Persona and Nisemonogatari are great! I love them both! Soon Persona will end and I will miss it T____T

    • Jrow says:

In fairness to me, those words tumbled out of Verdant’s mouth and not mine.
I will say that I’ve taken the stance of wishing Bioware hadn’t succumbed to all the rage and decided to work on the endings. I was about 15 hours in and have just stopped playing until all this ending business sorts itself out. If the ending is that stinky now and they’re talking about changing it, I guess I’ll just wait.

I was going to say your podcast on air, but then I started to say Squid and the Whale and I knew that wasn’t right. (Kidd and Squid)

Let’s hope for that second season of Chihaya! We can’t let the anime end with all of those kids on a losing streak.

It seems that… I need to actuallystart listening to Metaverse now.

And wooo Verdant, finally! First podcast! *throws cookies*

    • Foshizzel says:

      YES! DO IT ANAAGA <3

    • Kyokai says:

      anaagaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa….

    • Jrow says:

You were just on a flight recently. How do you not even listen to 14.99?

Also of importance, I’m having to re-add all previous podcast episodes. I’m starting from the most recent episode and have uploaded all the way down to episode 9 as of this written comment.

      • anaaga says:

Dude, it was only an hour and *insert excuses*

I did try to DL All Metanorn eps in iTunes, but I wasn’t able to find all of them?

        • Kyokai says:

Oi, check again! I updated the RSS and it’s showing all episodes now. =P

  7. xRichard says:

    Verdant’s article @RC

    Get ready for those visitors.

    • Foshizzel says:

Indeed! It seems Verdant has started some interesting talks of a RandomC podcast in the future? I think they should call it Random Chatter or Random Channel xDD

  8. Tofu says:

“What is your favourite Colour” question FOR THE WIND!! >;D You cannot deny how awesome this question is hehehehe.. ^^

While balancing out shows from the last season to determine a top 3, it’s really hard. Most of the shows I’m watching (watched since most of them finished by now) picked up in the last few episodes. What I thought was a nothing special season turned into a WOAH, everything’s getting better 😀 Which I ended up enjoying this season much more than I used to.

So back on topic… I can’t give you a top 3 but I can list out my fav’s of the season (not in order of preference):
    Inu X Boku SS
    Natsume Yuujinchou Shi
    Mirai Nikki
    Nisemonogatari
    Ano Natsu de Matteru
    Chihayafuru

As for episodic blogging, I can’t really explain how mine IS because it’s very… inconsistent in content (well… I’m just throwing words out at random here..so.. LOLS) I could be really in-depth at times, I could be really personal at times, bland at times, and all that kind of stuff because it’s definitely hard to write in episodics because each episode is different in content (somewhat) compared to other episodes so you’re constantly trying to write about a certain series without sound too boring at times… I find this really hard and sadly… it’s just how I write LOLS I write whatever comes to my mind and it definitely looks boring when I’m blogging about a certain episode that didn’t really have much in it (I know I did something like that for a few Inu X Boku SS episodes because it was just comedy and stalling for time in a way and the comedy wasn’t exactly hilarious so… yeah… I guess in a way to fighting against bland content or little content in a post you could combine it with another episode which I don’t usually do but I might in the future) Is there anything I could do about this guys? 🙁 (seeing my situation at Seki as of this comment)

Also, I’d really like to ask about editorials… I know I did one about future of mainstream anime and I was able to write a lot about it and like what Verdant said… it is somewhat easier~ BUT it’s difficult coming up with ideas to actually DO an editorial on… I know there’s good stuff at Meta and a few other sites but like.. I feel scared writing about the same stuff cause it feels like I’m stealing ideas from others instead of coming up with them myself… 🙁 I felt a slightly bad when I found out feal87 also posted something similar after I finished my draft on it… should I be?

    • Kyokai says:

Our filler questions have been fixed now! xD

About episodic blogging, as I said, different people have different approach to it but being a responsible blogger, we have to highlight the important turns of events and even speculate the next steps. It’s definitely hard to chugging out words every week (the reason aniblogging is pretty much still niche), but you try and with time you get down your style. I can definitely say my style changes the more I write.

About Editorials, rather than being afraid, I think you should be more daring and even opinionated about it because that is completely your point and Editorials are supposed to be spinoffs to discussion because you can’t make everyone happy or even make them agree on your points. So, better to get your point across and ask your readers what’s their take on it.

    • Jrow says:

It worked cause we thought it’d be green, but then I ended up being able to play “Blue” for a minute. XD

Re: Editorials – One idea I’d throw out there is to think of things you do in everyday life and find out how they gel within the world of anime. If I ever wrote one, sports would be my point of interest.

I think what’s so good about the editorials Overcooled writes is that she’s taken things from what she studies and enjoys in everyday life (like what she’s studying in school with her Doctor posts or how she likes poetry). She’s applied something that’s her own in terms of editorial content which is why they’re such interesting reads. I believe lvlln does some accounting/financial work in his job and I remember one editorial he wrote focusing on the movie Redline and how JP and Frisbee were fixing races.

For a while, I felt kind of like I should do some editorial thing for here or on my other website, but then I realized that I do these podcasts and these are basically spoken editorials with the aide of Kyo & Fosh, plus it’s enough work to edit and add music and all the show notes.

      • Tofu says:

Thanks Kyo and Jrow! ^^ You guys really helped me out~

        • Overcooled says:

Tofu, I read your editorial – you should really keep it up! It’s common to feel a bit more unsure with them than normal, episodic posts (I get super nervous before pressing “publish”) but you’ll get used to it. Basically..yep…do what Jrow and Kyokai said.

@Jrow: You described my posts better than I ever could. XD Thanks!

          • Tofu says:

Thanks OC~ ^^ I feel like I’ve got more courage through all three of your advices hehehehe… I shall write another one up when an idea comes to me ;D

  9. Croos says:

VERY NICE!! AMAZING conversation. Made me listen to all the conversation.
Made me think and laugh in every topic.
    :3
    Nicely done.

  10. BlackBriar says:

Haha, nice!! You guys work fast!! The guests and newcomers get broken in pretty quickly.

For an anime that was 85% dialogue, Nisemonogatari was a guilty pleasure to watch this season with all the fun characters and mostly Koyomi’s untamed perverted antics. Shinobu, Kanbaru and Senjougahara are front and center for favorites and I simply can’t ignore the other girls who have their own thing to bring to the table like Sengoku, Karen and Tsukihi (Justice was served cold when Kanbaru gave Koyomi a lesson in sexual harrassment in the second episode). The winner was the notorious sibling toothbrush episode. The episode itself was jaw dropping. How could I possibly look at a toothbrush the same way again?

High School DxD was definitely worth watching because other than the obvious ecchi element, there was a lot of story and character development. Listen to me, it was too much fun to pass up. One of the things made it better for me was seeing the seiyuu for the main character Issei Hyoudo, Yūki Kaji getting more into different roles other than the ones I feel have become type-cast (Ao no Exorcist, N° 6, Guilty Crown). He did great in animes like C³: Cube x Cursed x Curious and Deadman Wonderland. Issei may be a big time pervert that rivals Boku wa Tomodachi’s Rika, but he acts like a big brother to the nun-turned-devil girl Asia and he and his master, Rias Gremory make a great couple. The anime is licensed by Funimation Entertainment along with Guilty Crown, C³ and Deadman Wonderland.

Nothing worse than useless, meaningless trolling, especially if it’s for no reason. Kyokai is doing an excellent job at maintaining order on this site. Out of all the blog sites I’ve seen, Metanorn is the best in my opinion. And it’s not a problem if there’s a little scrolling to do. Maybe it’s just proof on how much detail in the anime you guys are covering. Not to mention the funny captions that go with it (OH MA SHOE). It’s hard to find the good in a particular show but I think it helps by getting different points of view and make comparisons. So wasn’t the case with Sacred Seven, that was a failure. Between that and the recently finished Guilty Crown, GC wins by a landslide, which is really saying something.

This season was so much fun that I couldn’t possibly come up with only three favorites. They would be:
    Rinne no Lagrange
    Nisemonogatari
    Another
    Senki Zesshou Symphgear
    Ano Natsu de Matteru
    Moretsu Pirates
    Inu x Boku SS
    High School DxD
    Black Rock Shooter

I would’ve added Guilty Crown, Phi Brain, Mirai Nikki and Persona 4 but they started from previous seasons so they shouldn’t really count.

Who’s responsible for the Moretsu Pirates yuri poster? My money’s on Fosh being the culprit. LOL.

    • Jrow says:

DxD had a pretty decent shounen element to it as well. I like how they ran with the chess analogy for how Issei battles and can be promoted, and I really liked when it was revealed how Kiba made his own Sacred Gear swords. I really hate how people quickly marked it as trash and dropped it. It does have a fantastic dosage of nudity, but it has more than that going for it. Oh, and honestly, I wanted to answer Dress Break for my special ability. 😉

I was actually the one who brought up the Pirates pic! And after you heard me on back-to-back episodes talk about Pirates, I’m finally watching it! I’m up to episode 8 and liking all of the characters. I really liked the electronic warfare battle in episode 5.

  11. Shirt says:

Yosuga no Sora.. lmao Yeah that scene.. xD I was crackin’ up from that point on in the podcast.

    • Foshizzel says:

Ahahahh yes! My first Metanorn blogging experience was good old Yosuga no Sora…good times…good times xD

  12. Overcooled says:

I really liked this episode! …says one of Metanorn’s own writers. But you should still accept my (biased) praise. I liked Verdant as a guest – he seemed to fit in with you guys right away, and he had some interesting things to say. Nice to meet you, oh mighty master of green!

I always like hearing about everyone’s individual take on aniblogging. Bringing that individual flavour is definitely important…so is having fun and going crazy sometimes. I’m pretty sure I’ve written posts where half of the things I talk about in the summary don’t even happen, it’s just to let loose. =w=

Verdant’s right about completely missing out on what the actual persona mean in terms of their arcana and the lore behind all of Yu’s persona (yay mythological beings!) I somehow completely forgot about that. The anime makes them more like pokemon they control as opposed to being physical manifestations of their personality :B Anyways, still enjoying the adptation. I’ll have to check out Verdant’s posts now :3

Top 3 of the season would have to be Nisemonogatari (DAT TOOTHBRUSH SCENE), Mirai Nikki and Persona 4. Dude, Mirai Nikki is insane. INSANE.

Loving all the background music, by the way. I hear a lot of familiar tunes <3

    • Jrow says:

Praise from you is welcome, biased or unbiased! Verdant was cool to chat with, so I’d say it was worth Fosh & I staying up to record this at 2AM. 😮

I’m glad people are digging the tunes I put in! I made sure to put in plenty this round, even though I only watched a couple episodes of Un-Go. I would’ve looked for the P4 soundtrack, or put even the Port City track from P3 in.

  13. Joojoobees says:

Top 3 this season: Chihayafuru, Chihayafuru, Chihayafuru.

Mouretsu Pirates: I think Misa probably would be a lot more relaxed if she didn’t feel she was training Marika. When she was working at the school, she was chugging beers left and right, but then we went into a whole “train Marika to be the new captain” arc, and she has been quite a bit stricter. It will be interesting to see if that changes in the next arc.

    • Jrow says:

Chihayafuru, yeah, that show’s alright. 😉

Now that I’m watching the series after talking about it on back-to-back podcasts, I now have a better understand of what Misa’s like. She does have the qualities that I may have thought she’d be like given her beauty (plenty of quality angle shots in one episode), but she is, as Verdant mentioned, the mom of the ship.

  14. Yippy says:

It was fun listening to you guys, I learned quite a bit about the work that goes behind aniblogging and how to go about it. I’ll remember them as I write. =)

Another would definitely be in pole position in my Top 3, followed by Persona 4 and NichiBros. I really didn’t watch any other anime this season though, so my view is kinda limited and skewed a bit.

Keep up the good work, I’d like to hear more from you guys soon! Btw, the honking and other miscellaneous noises did add a bustling ambiance to the podcast. XD

    • Jrow says:

Sweet! I hope my scrolling comment was taken with a grain of salt since that doesn’t really matter too much. It’s not like being “above the fold” on a newspaper.

I like the use of the term pole position after my race thing at the end! I might end up having to check out Another sometime soon before Spring kicks off.

Thanks! If you’re not familiar with our scheduling, we usually go fortnightly with the podcasts, so hopefully we’ll be back for another episode a couple weeks from now! (honk! honk!)

      • Yippy says:

Yup, I knew it was just a joke at the spur of the of the moment. If the content’s good enough, I don’t mind scrolling. =)

Thanks for liking it, but what race? I don’t remember anything about a race. XD Take your time, rushing a series just for the sake of it really takes a lot of enjoyment out of it in my opinion.

        Wokay, thanks!
