First Impression – Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou

High school boys? An uke moe, a blondie and a megane, all together? I’M IN.

So, I really didn’t mean it when I said that NichiBROS is a replacement of Kimi to Boku. No, sirree. It’s a genre of it’s own and shifts more towards Gintama like jokes than fluffy ones. After watching the previews, I was bent on catching the first episode and not just for Tomokazu Sugita, SuzuKen and Miyu Irino. I watched this for the funnies and joining my two teammates to make a trio of our own~
Is it really time for Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou?! Damn I have been waiting for this comedy series to arrive after I saw all of the hilarious previews. So yeah I am super pumped to sit back and laugh my ass off! One of the main reasons I got so excited to see this was to hear more Sugita Tomokazu, aka Gintoki of Gintama so that is reason enough for me to check this out. Now enjoy another awesome Metanorn first impression tag team!
Yesss, it’s finally here! Ever since I watched the hilarious preview I’ve been so excited for this! Adorable high school boys doing adorably silly things – what could be a better way to start off my first official summary post in Metanorn? ^^

Right from the start, HSboys jumps into the introductions of our awesome lead trio – Tadakuni the uke moe, Yoshitake the blondie and Hidenori the meganeko. They’re running late for school while having their very peculiar breakfasts, when suddenly giant robots appear out of nowhere, shooting random laser beams. You’re confused by what seems to have morphed into a mecha adventure movie… until we’re reminded by our beloved moe quite literally that we’re supposed to be watching “an anime about normal everyday life” rather than some Mobile Suite Gundam mashup!

Just a typical day in the lives of three high school boys.

One fine, sunny afternoon, the trio is at Tadakuni’s house lazing away their afterschool hours when Tadakuni pops a random question – “how do you get a girlfriend?” And with that, all havoc breaks loose. His two best friends setup a series of simulations, just like a visual novel with Tadakuni playing the role of the male lead. Yoshitake slips into a lonely female classmate/tsundere/Pres in different rounds while Hidenori always steps in to ruin the moment, even if it’s just a challenge to him. However, just when things are winding down, a moment of inspiration strikes Tadakuni and he grabs Pres Yoshitake, dragging her along and running all over the house (while Hidenori shouts words of “encouragement” in the background) until he arrives back in his room at a special spot, revealing that all he wanted was to show her the beautiful scenery. Round 3, success! But what for? They don’t even have GIRLS in their school. Their life is suffering.

They’re purely just friends. No, really.

Aaand on another fine, sunny afternoon, the trio is at Tadakuni’s house once again, with a rather different topic in mind this time. The ball starts rolling when Hidenori pops another question (jeez, questions seem to have a dangerous streak in this anime), asking the others about their opinion on skirts, and this eventually breaks out into a heated discussion. Yes, you heard that right. You can see where this is going, can’t you? Hidenori comes up with the brilliant idea of trying on Tadakuni’s sister’s skirts, and everything goes downhill from there – he even brings out her pantsu! The next thing you know, they’re really changing into those skirts… Or that’s what Tadakuni thinks, at least. Turns out the other two had only pretended to change, tricking poor, gullible Tadakuni into dressing like a girl. What’s more, Tadakuni actually looks hot as a girl and they decide to turn it up a notch. And, whaddayaknow! Imouto-san walks in on her onii-san wearing her very private articles of clothing and starts to turn deadly… *gulps* Their life is suffering.

That awkward moment when your sister finds out about your secret hobbies.

Hidenori seems to be the one coming up with all the strange conversation topics, and this time he starts off with a scary story. He tells them about the cute girl he saw at a restaurant, and how he watched her intently, even as she got up and left… And finally noticing that she had been using three chopsticks! Why on earth would a normal human being use three chopsticks?! Yoshitake is not to be outwitted, as he retells his concern over the hair around his nipples. What am I even watching?! Since pulling them out one by one with tweezers wasn’t going too well, he decides to use his father’s razor and… *deep breath* unfortunately cuts off his own nipple at the same time! Don’t ask. Lastly, Tadakuni ends off with a story about a party with his friends. They ended up drinking too much (nope, not alchohol) until one of his friends felt sick. Following him to the bathroom, Tadakuni watches in horror as his friend puked up a freaking centipede. Immediately, Hidenori and Yoshitake rush to the toilet and join his sister, who turns out, had been secretly listening in on their conversation in puking up whatever they consumed that day. Well, it is probably too late to mention that Tadakuni had made it all up, wasn’t it? Their life is suffering – minus Tadakuni this time.

When Tadakuni ends up late for school, his friends wonder why. Hidenori looks out the windows, and then suddenly falls backwards very exaggeratedly, crashing into several chairs and tables on the way. Yoshitake then mimics his utter shock, seeing Tadakuni walk with a girl! The whole class goes wild until Motoharu, the delinquent of the class, suggests that they go crash his lovey-dovey walk. They approach him and the mysterious girl with a threatening aura, only to find Tadakuni helping the girl out for directions… Sometimes high school boys can over think things too much… Indeed, their life is suffering.

And, you were saying?

On a breezy evening, Hidenori decides reading a book while lying by the riverbank, only to be hindered by a strong wind. Before he could return however, a high school girl unexpectedly approaches, sitting close to him. Hidenori’s brain goes into overwork mode as he thinks about the girl’s motives. Gathering up his courage, he comes up with a brilliant line talking about the weather. He mentally facepalms himself, but the girl actually responds positively to this. The two exchange words of poetic wisdom, while Hidenori calls for backup. Yoshitake turns out to be more harm than help, but Tadakuni effectively kills the mood, earning himself a vicious beating from the girl. Hidenori notices her notebook by then, and realizes that she had been trying to re-enact a romantic scene from the novel she wrote, embarrassing her thoroughly. What a jerk. xD He only has one problem with it, though – how could he possibly look like an introverted, lonely otaku? Srsly? Did you not see the mirror this morning? At least Tadakuni’s life was suffering in this act.

She’s starting to remind me of a certain two-faced yandere…

Y U NO SHIP TADAKUNI/YOSHITAKE/HIDENORI AS OT3?

End Thoughts:

Oh this. Comedy for me is hit and miss but starting from previews, I’ve liked the stints of these three friends, which are hilarious! This is done in such a Gintama fashion that from Tomokazu Sugita’s Hidenori to how the beginning and ending sponsorship is done, everything just screams that type of humour. And you know what? I love that TYPE of humour! Where else would you get jokes about boys crossdressing, nipple shaving and barfed worm? It’s funny and even if this was the first episode, it didn’t shy away from being a toilet-mouth. I haven’t read the manga but if the anime’s true to the original material, it must be a riot.

Even without much introduction, you somehow connect with the boys and see their chemistry roll off each other. From role-playing, tricks, back-stabbing to a supposed rescue, they do it all together and marvelously so. The expressions were hilarious and I have a thing for the blacked out eyes (since the GTO days), so seeing them again made me laugh just for its sake. The winner comedian role of course goes to Hidenori, who spurs the two in different direction most of the times. I have to agree with Klux, Hidenori seems like a perfect crossover between Kyon and Gintoki. He’s funny and off the rocker but has enough brains to have some hilarious internal monologues and throw around sarcasm. Such humour is my weakness.

I’ll say all the acts/skits were pretty entertaining, helping a girl with direction was definitely the weakest but that skirt one had me in stitches. The riverside one comes a close second with NichiBROS coming to aid their nakama in need. My heart goes out to Tadakuni for getting beaten up by the Bungaku Shoujo, behind the sighs of whom was Hikasa Yoko (Tofu, are you watching this?). She looked like Kuroneko in uniform and I’m sure this is not the last time we’ll see her. Overall, the NichiBROS have entertained me quite a bit and I’m not disappointed at all, unlike that Ali Project fiasco in Another. I’ll definitely look forward to more funnies next week.

I have no words for this amazing series! Seriously so freaking good! This is soooo not Kimi to boku if anyone is thinking that, change that right now because this is nowhere near as slow; while I liked Kimi to boku, this series just pulls at my funny bone more. So, do I have any favorite characters? Easy answer: ALL OF THEM! But I would put Tabata as my number one due to that amazing Gintoki voice. That dude does some of the best internal narration I have ever heard because they are that funny. Well, he does the same type of thing, playing Kyon in the disappearance series/movie.

First skit about getting a girlfriend was great but that skirt one was really great! I just loved how Tabata and Tanaka ended up trolling Tadakuni hard. That felt like it would easily fit in Nichijou with Yuuko and Mai trolling Mio, but the sister was the best when she walked in on them “changing” and her ending bomb line, “Did I tell you to stop?” Ahahaha I think I cried from laughing so hard.

And finally the river scene. Even though I saw the preview of this, I still found it great the second time around. And Tofu if you are reading this you need to WATCH THIS SERIES!! Hikasa Yoko plays a great character even though she doesn’t really say much, it is still funny to hear her. Did anyone else read the lyrics for the ending song? They matched up perfectly with the short wind talk! They even threw in the lines that Tadakuni said about the potato chips. So yeah…I have to turn my fanboy off for a bit! Thanks for reading and watch this series, trust me everyone needs an anime like this to laugh after a long day of work or school.

Woah, I actually really enjoyed this! I’m usually hesitant towards the slice of life genre; one thing is that it has to be interesting enough to capture my interest fully, or else I’ll find myself falling asleep halfway through. This anime, though, has undoubtedly impressed me and I was thoroughly entertained by it throughout! xD The way they present it (in a series of 5 short stories) is interesting, albeit slightly abrupt, but somehow it fits into the entire theme of the anime. I’m actually currently in an all-girls middle school, so I kind of understand how they feel doing all those silly things. I’ve also always wondered how an all-boys school would be like and now I know!! >D LIFE LOOKS SO EXCITING THERE. Even if it’s suffering for some.

I already knew I was going to love the characters 5 minutes into the episode, and now I think I have found my new OT3 (YES, YOU CAN HAVE OT3s). Our lead trio is so endearing and they have such good chemistry with each other – They are incredibly amusing as a team and I’m looking forward to watching them do more silly things together. My favourite character so far is definitely Tadakuni. He’s the perfect candidate for an uke a little brother and I’d just love to pinch those cheeks all day long. \(//∇//)\ Who knows, maybe their friendship will deepen into love, beautiful pure high school boys-love! 8D -forever delusional fujoshi-

I am fine with the art-style. It isn’t terribly pretty, but it grows on you after awhile and those ridiculous facial expressions are so awesome. xD I really like the opening, and I’m definitely downloading it once it’s released~ When I first watched this I wasn’t sure quite what to expect, but turns out my doubts were all unnecessary. I’m going to have lots of fun blogging it weekly in the future, and possibly even teaming up with my fellow Metateam members <3 Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou! \o\ /o/

Preview:

More shenanigans of the trio with swordplay, kitchen-talk and more craziness in the mix.

OMG! This episode is just so much LOL all over the place. I really do like everything about this show! It’s comedy is really just up my alley. With the great seiyuu’s being funny at its best, it really does work up a good laugh.

The characters are just lulz, we can all tell that there good friends with the way they act around each other. And just love all the way they interact with each other too! Each person has there own reason to be funny X3.

Even with a bunch of small stories in each episode, each one has there own funny quality to it. I think my favorite still has to be the first one or the one with Bungaku Shoujo. With Hidenori talking to Tadakuni while he’s running with Yoshitake saying all those lines about other love interests XD, and the Bungaku Shoujo is just so kawaii! I just love how cute she looks near the end (Yoko Hikasa :3, such kawaii squeals there nya?).

Though I couldn’t laugh as hard cause I saw all 3 previews from before aghh >.>, but I’ll be watching this series regularly :3

I agree! >D it really tickled my funny bone with those ridiculous stories xD Our lead trio is so adorableee <3 I think all of them are lovable and yup, each of them have their own quirky traits 😛

Looks like we're going to have a really fun time watching this weekly~

This is definitely a hit among the comedys. I was ROFL when I watched it. I laughed again when I read this post. The starting got me really well. This is like KimitoBoku+Nichijou+Gintama. I was still laughing even when I watched the ending.

    • Miyu says:

I knowww! It’s going to be the comedy of the season x3
(In actual fact I haven’t even watched any of those anime you mentioned)
THE ENDING SONG WAS SO ANTICLIMATIC LOL.

  3. Jrow says:

I was literally going crazy in my chair when Yoshitake was gonna shave his chest. What an idiot! Owww, that must hurt!

I’d seen some of the bits already and just fast forwarded to the stuff that was new to me, which was really funny! I have a tendency to quickly get away from these types of comedies, but this one I’m 100% on board with; Tomokazu Sugita playing a good part in that.

    • Kitty says:

      LOVE THE NEW ICON!!!! XP

    • Miyu says:

YES HAHA I WAS FALLING OFF OF MY CHAIR AT THAT POINT. “DO NIPPLES GROW BACK?” LOL poor Yoshitake.

I’ve never tried watching a pure slice of life/comedy before but this was great xD Definitely gonna be enjoying it to the most <3

  4. kluxorious says:

The best thing about this show is, it takes itself serious and yet managed to provide something that makes me almost fall of my chair from laughing too hard. That shaved nipple made me cringed but at the same time I got tears welling up as I LOL’d.

    This is pure brilliant.

    • Miyu says:

The boys are just so serious about the silly things they do that it turns out hilarious xP THAT NIPPLE. -shakes head in despair- it looked so painful hahaha.

      Yes, pure brilliance indeed.

  5. Kitty says:

Not Kimi to Boku, but a good filler until next season. This episode was awesome. Having watched the previews, I was a little bored with the stuff I had already seen. EXPECT the cross-dressing because that never gets old! I hope they show the RPG one again, I really liked that one.

    Miyu-chan OT3s? Nani?

    • Miyu says:

I actually haven’t caught Kimi to Boku yet, is it really better than this? (Because I’m already loving the nichibros THIS MUCH xD) I watched one of the previews already but I still laughed when I saw this episode!! I think I laugh pretty easily, though.
CROSS-DRESSING IS AN ESSENTIAL. I laughed my head off.

Oh, and OT3 is yaoi speak for One True Threesome! It’s like OTP but worse LOL.

  6. skylion says:

So I gave it a view. Gonna give it a pass. Funny, but would much rather have more K-ON. I know, lame excuse. Just shoot me.

I found the ED gut bustingly funny until the over did the joke…should have sung the line about the chips, that would have been funny. And have him sing “Dou shite” That would have been even funnier….

    • Miyu says:

Aww, won’t you give it a go? K-on’s not ongoing anyway and I’m sure this will bring lots of laughter and entertainment meanwhile xD

Yes the ED is hilarious – it’s a work of art. 😛 they probably had episode timing limits hehe.

  7. TheVoid says:

I’ve seen some yandere Yuno face pics of Literature Girl on Pixiv. So looks like you aren’t the only one thinking of her when it comes to Literature Girl.

  8. Ness says:

Great anime so far. I dunno which was my favorite part of the episode. But man that stealing the sisters clothes part was so hilarious with the sister coming in and saying to continue on. As well, the ending XD Good laughs!

I enjoyed the episode so much that I couldn’t submit a first impression comments for this hah. I didn’t know where to start and how to go about~

Good job on your first episodic, Miyu :3

    • Miyu says:

I can only imagine what his sister must have been thinking when she walked in on that. ONII-SAN NO BAKA!!

Aww it’s okay Ness! We should tag team together for one episode or another >D thank you! <3

  9. Foshizzel says:

    Hooray Miyu! Your first episodic!

This series…oh..my..god SO GOOD! I know I said that a billion times hahahha but seriously I haven’t laughed so hard in a while well since Ika Musume s2 and good old Nichijou <3 I will be watching this every week 😉

    • Miyu says:

Yup! -hifives Fosh- I DID IT xD

It’s like a weekly laughter pill hehe. I think I haven’t laughed this hard since Special A’s manga ended =w= I love the hashtag going around on twitter too – NICHIBROS. It’s so cute. ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ

  10. xochandaox says:

This was just pure EPIC. I loved it. My favorite part had to be the last bit.
And I just Knew they weren’t going to put on the skirt XD

I thought this was way better than Nichijou.
Will definitely be keeping up with this one.

Oh and I just HAVE to tell someone about the vomit and there being a centipede. Like it actually happened. Muahaha ;D

    • Miyu says:

Sigh, best friends – they ditch you and make you do stupid things, but still (secretly) love you in their heart xD

That’s a good idea. I might try that too HAHA and see how many people I can frighten >D

  11. Zabobinator says:

    I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!!!

  12. Yippy says:

    Hidenori, ’nuff said. XD

P.S. Now I have a new seiyuu to look out for-Tomozaku Sugita, here I come!

  13. Miyu says:

HIDENORI IS SO HILARIOUS HAHA he’s the one starting all the dangerous topics and making us laugh so much xD

Tomozaku Sugita voiced Gintoki too! Oh man, he’s responsible for the funny characters hahahaha.

  14. Bob from Accounting says:

Anime of the season. Calling it now.
