Halloween’s Special Treat
Happy Halloween everyone! No tricking this time, just some bloodilicious treats!
With the theme change, you must have guessed we have been up to something. I was originally planning on some bloodilicious fun of changing the site for a day to a scary sitcom but we didn’t have to get that done. Not to mention that needed me to take out of my precious knife and brandish at some poor souls. Seriously, I might actually kill someone just in accident because the murderous intent has been so strong lately. :3 Anyway, some of the team has gathered here today to recommend their favourite horror show/manga. Enjoy the list and do remember to watch it on Halloween! xD |

Happy Halloween readers! Hope you get your hands on some candy or attend some crazy parties! You can watch lots of scary movies with friends too. In case of horror themed anime, I would personally watch something like the walking dead. Either way you choose to spend your evening and I hope you have a fantastic time. ://Recommendation//: Highschool of the Dead (Anime) When you think of Horror or even Halloween what’s the first thing that pops into your head? Maybe you think about candy or scary movies? Well, for me I think about zombies and there are a few anime out there with zombies in them. We have seen some like Aikawa from Kore wa zombie desu ka? But that’s more of a comical zombie. A few months back, my brother and I showed dad Highschool of the dead, which I found to be really entertaining, even though half of the time is spent seeing random panty shots of the girls. But the zombies in HoTD are slow and violent and quick to overpower the background characters. I really don’t like the OMG RUNNING zombie but anyway, if you enjoy watching slow moving undead that eat people go check it out and enjoy the blood! |

It’s that time of year again! It’s the time to go threaten people for cand- er, I mean Halloween (one of the few times of the year where it’s okay to go buy ridiculous amounts of candy/chocolate all at once and no one will judge you). Or sometimes I like to refer to it as the one day of the year where normal people cosplay. Anyways, happy Halloween! ://Recommendation//: Higurashi no Naku Kuro Ni (Anime) So my recommendation for Halloween is Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (or alternatively Higurashi: When they Cry). This is actually the show that turned me from a shoujo lover into a horror lover. Despite the QUALITY animation (LOL DEEN), blatantly obvious fanservice and initially confusing narrative, there’s just something about watching a bunch of insane people die over and over again that draws you in. Of course, nothing is really explained until the second season, but once you get that far, EVERYTHING makes sense (but oh the trolls they throw at you up until that point). I guess since its Halloween, I should talk about the horror aspect of this show. There is a lot of blood and it can get pretty damn creepy since you have no idea what’s going on until about halfway through the second season. Ahaha of course after things like Blood-C (or even Shiki), horribly scarring violence is pretty common, but this anime is brutal if it’s your first time watching these things. It also doesn’t help that all of the characters are so moe that it’s really disorienting when some of them turn out to be psychopathic murderers. I actually make sure to watch at least the first arc once a year just because of how creepy it is. …Though one of the downfalls to this series is the OVAs. Rei was okay, but I like to pretend that Kira doesn’t exist. Long story short, as long as you stay away from the OVAs (and maybe skip the fanservicy stuff), this series is amazing and I highly recommend it. |

Happy Halloween, readers! If you’re unlike me and don’t have a physiology midterm on Halloween getting in the way of fun and you want to watch some unnerving anime, I’ve got just the trick. ://Recommendation//: Boogiepop Phantom (Anime) Last year I celebrated Halloween by watching Boogiepop Phantom, a slightly older anime that has the same uneasy atmosphere as Serial Experiments Lain. Rape, drugs, stalking, murder, ghosts, hallucinations, and supernatural beings with incredible powers are just some of the dark themes that each character has to face head on. This range of lovely vices and travesties can be reached thanks to the wide array of characters. Each character has their own issue involving the rumoured murderer named Boogiepop Phantom to deal with, and each thread of the story is slowly connected until the true identity behind Boogiepop Phantom is revealed. I must warn you that because of the complex nature of how the plot is presented, it’s one of those series where if you don’t watch it all in one go or at least without a long break – you will be completely lost. However, this shouldn’t be a problem as the tension quickly rises to such heights that you simply will not want to wait for the next episode. It’s hard for an anime to elicit genuine fear, but quite easy for it to make you squirm in your chair uneasily if done right. Boogiepop Phantom is done right. If you liked Shiki and its’ questioning of human morality, there are a lot of issues to keep you intrigued with Boogiepop. Feel like a slower-paced, psychological anime with dark slant to it? Boogiepop is the way to go, and it’s my treat to all of you~ |

Happy Halloween, everyone! All I can say is time to steal Halloween candy from my younger siblings who are still young enough to trick-or-treat, WHOOHOO~ It’s one of those moments where being the oldest feels awesome. ://Recommendation//: Jisatsu Circle (Manga) For me, the best kind of scare from a horror anime, manga, movie, etc. comes internally. When I scream, fear is only for that second, but when fears get to me internally, it stays there for days, leaving this sickening feeling in my stomach. That’s how I know I’ve been scared for a good while. The only horror mangas that instantly stands out to me in that sense is Jisatsu Circle, or Suicide Club. It has been one of the most gruesome, disturbing, and chilling manga I have ever read. What had perplexed me to read this on a nice, sunny, Saturday morning is beyond me. When I first clicked on it, it felt like I had entered some dark, empty corner of this manga-reading site; like everything nice and moe and innocent and normal was miles away on the brighter side of town. All I know, after a few years since reading it, is that it did scare me internally; gave me chills, gave my stomach one hell of a beating to upset it for the next two days. The story was simple, yet complex, and just…creepy. There are really gruesome scenes that I honestly couldn’t stop staring at, no matter how much the details unsettled my stomach. Jisatsu Circle is definitely one horrific manga to daringly try out, and if you can handle that, there’s also the gruesome movie version to check out as well~. |

Waaahhhh! Halloween! I’ve always enjoyed this season. Mainly because of all the candy that goes on sale. I just bought a bag the other day… ://Recommendation//: Issho Ni Neyou Yo (Manga) I’m not good with the scary things though. I’m barely able to even watch horror movie trailers without flipping out and having to sleep with my stuffed koala bear. Thus, it makes sense that I haven’t read very many scary manga or watched scary anime. However, I’ve come across a couple titles that are sufficiently scary without causing me to piss my pants. Issho Ni Neyou Yo is a pretty cute story with some frightening elements to it. It’s about a runaway girl who comes across a masked boy. He takes her back to his mansion where he lives with other weirdos. Really, it’s not that scary but you must remember that Zabo cannot take scary things. At all. Enjoy! Happy Halloween! xD |

Halloween! Ideal time to relax and watch some scary anime, which I’m not doing though. ://Recommendation//: Corpse Party (Manga) To be honest, I’m not a big fan of horror. I squirm at the sight of ghost stories, and I scream when the ghost appeared out of nowhere in the screen. Yet strangely I’m actually reading a ghost manga called Corpse Party Blood Covered. If you’re a gamer, then you’ve probably heard of it. Yep, this is a based-from-a-game manga about a group of students (and a teacher of course) transported into a haunted elementary school called Tenshi Gakuen. One by one the students are being slaughtered by the ghosts inside the school as they search for the way out. I don’t really like the idea of ghosts in that series, but I’m sure as hell loving the slaughters that are being done in this manga. I have this strange fondness with blood, especially when there’s lots of it, and uncensored gore. There’s not much plot in the manga (unlike the game), and it’s not so horror-ish, but I totally don’t mind because I’m reading it just for the blood and the slaughters. If you’re a bored person who loves scenes such as hanging or cutting by piano strings, I think you should waste your time in this manga. If you want some horror that exercises your brain a little bit but also has yaoi trap and loli being twisted, then you should read the spin-off, Corpse Party Musume. But meh, It’s ecchi, and the gore isn’t as good as the Blood Covered one ^^ |

Hey, I’m off candies, don’t try to lure me! Happy Halloween to everyone who celebrates it. For me, it’s the day to remember some good horror shows because personally it’s one of my favourite genre. I still remember how I laughed while watching Evil Dead and cringed while watching Ringu. Good times! Though for a recommendation here, how can I ever forget this beautiful horror show? ://Recommendation//: Shiki (Anime) I definitely have a thing with this term, “Shiki” because I always end up liking it. This was the time when noitaminA was glorious unlike the current season. There are not many good horror anime out there because the sense of 2D leaves the watcher less scared. However, in case of Shiki, from quirky character designs, to amazing BGM and rightly placed suspense, you are always on your toes wondering what will happen. And WHO WILL RISE NOW! There are plenty of lovable and evil characters but the most wondrous thing is the grey-area revolving around which faction is right; humans or Shiki. I recommend you watch this in 720p+ (1080/Bluray is ideal) glory and marathoning is the best way to go. From the moments I loved, one has to be Megumi coming out of Tohru’s bed (creepy stalker just doesn’t cut it), while the other is Ozaki doing his Dr. House on his own wife. This has lots of WTF moments so if you really want to get into this genre, watch this and enjoy~ :3 |

Looks like there are some things I have to try out. I can’t take horror at all, but I love forcing myself to try it out.
