Kamisama Dolls – 12

Never underestimate the bond between a girl and her taser

While Kyohei races to save Hibino from getting raped by Nameless Henchman #8, Kuuko finds and frees Aki…or rather tosses the key at him just as the drugs that scramble his ability to communicate with his Doll wear off. Timing! Hibino manages to stall Namelsss Henchman #8 long enough for Kuuko to show up, knock him out, and consequently free Hibino, too. She doesn’t escape a few sly threats from Kuuko, despite her situation, though.

Friends don’t let friends get raped

The two start make their escape when they are separated by Hirashiro. After a bit of a struggle Kuuko kills him while outside Hibino is confronted by the ever jealous and unstable Mahiru. There’s some girl talk and the two sort it all out like sensible people. Oh, wait, no, this is Mahiru she snipes and throws her weight around like a bitch. Of course. Mahiru tosses Hibino but Kyohei and company grab her before she can become a street pancake. Oh, but we have to have a fight so Mahiru and Utao begin to duke it out.

Mahiru seems to be bested until her Dolls starts acting on it’s own a-la Evangelion style. It grabs Hibino and while Mahiru attempts to give it some tough love, it simply tosses her aside and takes off. Kyohei climbs up to try and rescue her, and the guys launch their own futile assault as well. Needless to say it backfires and Kyohei just gets captured along with Hibino while the guys take out each others Dolls by mistake. Kyohei is pushed to the limit of how much Seki-interferance he can take but just as he looses it and starts hysterically screaming he’s struck in the back of the head by Mahiru’s out of control Doll.

END THOUGHTS

Mahiru reminds me of Roberta from Black Lagoon, just her expressions and general no-holds-barred attitiude. Her instability plays a big part in that image, too, I think. I also keep forgetting it’s Hanazawa, she does a really good job of masking her voice. By that I mean that unless I knew it was her (which of course I do) I would never be able to pin her to other characters like Shimei, for instance.

The fight did feel needlessly forced. I found it dull. I thought that we weren’t going to get one next episode since it’s the last one and things would be resolved this episode and the last would be saved for a more reflective tone, but I have to say I’m glad to be wrong in this case. It looks as though we’re in store for an uncharacteristically action-packed ending. Back to this episode’s fight however; I did like the particually retro feel of it. Some of the shots were very old school, and I think I remember someone mentioning that Kamisama Dolls looked dated to them anyway. Which is actually something I quite like about it.

It was nice to see Kirio get emotional towards Kyohei’s perdicament. I’d like to say him and Utao make a good team…but they don’t. Co-ordination issues aside, I didn’t expect Mahiru’s Doll to turn on her. It was quite appropriate for it to reflect her personality and be influenced by her negativity. Though, it’s not going to do much for Mahiru’s mental instability if her beloved Kyohei is killed by her own Doll. No sireee.

PREVIEW

No preview this week in favour of a recap. Though we did get a little extra snippet after the ED credits; the Kukuri that we thought was down flares back into violent life, playing a different song…

There were quite a few aspects to this episode I liked, and some I didn’t think we needed. Some side characters are getting a bit pointless thus far.

But am liking what it’s possibly building up to. Looking forward to how it’s going to rise up, now that it’s all spiraled out of control.

    Also, old school style FTW

I know what you mean, as much as I love the two of them, Kirio and Kyoushiro don’t really have much to do anymore.

Objects that have catchy singing ability while flying or fighting can bleed. I think there was already an episode that showed that but I still find that awesomely interesting.

I was the one that said it looked dated in our first impressions, and I did mention that it fit well with the anime. Though Mahiru’s facial expression there did make me blurt laugh, the animation style has been pretty good imo.

This episode makes me want a second season. Either they can rush the shit out of things, or resolve this little arc and leave all that plot stuff from episode 6 into a new season.

    • Hime says:

Ah, I thought it might have been you! xD Mahiru definately has some great tantrum faces.

It looks as though they’d need a second season to explain all of the tangents we’ve been shown so far. Not sure it’s popular enough to get one though, and I think it might dilute it’s impact if we did know the whole story.

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode, though I do agree that the action seemed a bit forced. I rally hope that the next episode is as epic as it seems to foreshadow to be.

I really hope that the ost for this anime includes the doll songs. I really like them (though they can get repetitive sometimes.)

    • Hime says:

It is going to be insane, maybe that smack to the head will turn Kyohei evil and Aki will have to rescue him for a change

The OST, YES! Need it like burning. It better have the doll songs.

Kuuko has taken crazy to a new level. Hitting people with golf clubs is GTA style assault, and she got her taser back and I bet she plans to hogtie and torture Aki again if she gets the chance.

Mahiru just doesn’t have a clue about Kyohei. She’s too wrapped up in what she wants and her own self-interests. The wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great either. By the way, since when do dolls made of wood have blood inside of them?

Hibino is beginning to annoy me. She doesn’t understand that there are that have to be done and things that are unavoidable. Like trying to get in things that are out of her control and trying to call off a fight knowing she’s going to be ignored.

One episode to go. I wonder this is going to end and if there’s going to have a second season in the works because there is still not much development on the village story.

    • Hime says:

I am fully behind the re-capturing and bondage of Aki. Bwahahah~

Hibino’s been annoying me for a while, she really does just get in the way.

Can’t wait for the last episode, it’s going to be memorable, I’m sure.

Mahiru got owned so hard! Nice to see her getting beaten, but it’s funny watching her reactions even thou she is so damn mental.

Kuuko! I love watching her I couldn’t help but laugh watching her swing that golf club around, well now that she got her little friend back she can stun people again yay!

That last screen shot so made me say BLACK ROCK SHOOTER!? Or in this case Green rock shooter! Time for more berserk dolls next week.

    • Hime says:

Yeah, she’s such a bitch it’s great to see her brought down a peg. Maybe now she won’t be so arrogant.

The dolls that go berserk are the best kind~

If I’m not mistaken, that’s Kyohei’s song. He may have taken a smack to the head, but I suspect he’s unconsciously controlling Kukuri, and the last time he lost it he took out half a hill with Kyohei and he was only a kid then. I’m looking for him to flatten half the city this time.

    • Hime says:

Yeah, I thought that too but wasn’t sure. It’s definately not Utao controlling it anyway. Guess all it took for Kyohei to actually grow some balls and step back into his role as Seki was a potentionally lethal bash to the head.
